Satellite M30-104 - Cannot set a right resolution on external monitor

Hi everyone,
I've got a Satellite M30-104 with a nvidia GeForce FX5200.
It works well but when I plug a external monitor in, which is a wide screen 1440*900, I can't set the good resolution, even if I install the last driver.
What can I do?
Thanks

Hi
First of all you have to check in your user manual if your graphic card would support such external resolution.
But note; you will be not able to choose this resolution if the graphic driver doesnt contains it, even though this resolution would be supported by graphic card.
As you see two facts are important: graphic driver and graphic card have to support this resolution if you want to use it.

  • Macbook doesn't have the right resolution for external monitor.

I have a Macbook Pro runing OS X 10.7.5 and have a HP w1907 LCD monitor. When I have the Macbook open, I can get the proper resoulution of 1440x900 on the LCD while the monitors are Mirrored. But when the macbook is closed, the options for the LCd monitor are replaced by VGA display. The VGA Display options do not have the 1440x900 resolution option.
What do I have to do to get my monitor's native resolution back while keeping the macbook closed.

Aha - got luck: In Preferences/DIsplays click in the window and press 'Option' - the 'Gather Windows' button changes to 'Detect Displays' and when clicked, discoverd the correct resolution.
    That does it.

  • T400s max resolution for external monitor ?

    Hello
What is the max resolution for an external monitor connected to a thinkpad t400s  ? The reason i am asking is that:
    a) Intel says:  the max resolution of Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is 2048x1536
    b) Lenovo says:  DisplayPort + D-sub dual-display output support 2560×1600 maximum resolution
What are your experiences and what maximum resolutions on external monitors have you succesfuly tried in real life ?
Would it be possible to connect a 30" monitor at 2560x1600  to a thinkpad t400s ?

i don't know and i never tried but i'm inclined to trust intel more than lenovo on this...unless the t400s has some beefed-up x4500mhd

  • Cannot set admin right to my user root account has STANDARD RIGHTS!

I had this common problem, my account turned to standard.

I changed the root password from the install DVD, restarted.
logged in as "root", but the root user has standard rights as well!!
therefore I cannot change the rights of my user...

Wow, it looks like you went for the deluxe bugs package.
..."now I'm the adminstrator. but this didn't change the fact, that folder I'm creating ( doesn't matter where ) have "read only" rights for the admin. system has read write....
You hadn't mentioned that before, but actually that sounds like a completely different problem, one that can be caused by using "repair permissions" on a 10.5 volume while booted from a 10.4 (or earlier) disk - this might also include having used "DiskWarrior" to repair permissions (something the manufacturer advises against). Unfortunately, Apple is in the process of revising how "repair permissions" works, and the new method in 10.5 doesn't appear to be fully implemented. As a result, it does not fix this problem, which is purely a permissions issue. If this is indeed the problem, the most straightforward way to get back to a normal system is to reinstall - an "archive and install" while preserving network and user settings should be sufficient for this particular issue. If you are comfortable with the command line, it may be possible to change permissions manually - it would be necessary to attempt a permissions "repair" or "verify" under Leopard, and to record and carefully analyze the messages to determine what needs to be fixed, and how.
The "Finder" crashes are due to another bug - the GUI crashes when there are files or folders with a group ID that doesn't correspond to a group record in "DirectoryService". There are various strategies to use as workarounds: if all of the problem files have the same group ID, it is probably fastest just to create a group record for that group. If there are a number of different groups involved, doing a batch change of group from the command line might be easier. To get an ideal of what groups are involved, the following command can be used to display the various factors regulating access to a particular file or folder - try using it to survey a selection of different items exhibiting the problem:<pre>
    ls -elO /path/to/item</pre>
Copying the items to an external drive, then copying them back to a folder that does not display "(unknown)" in "Get Info" might be another strategy (but note that there have been some reports of data loss copying large amounts of data - even after the 10.5.1 update, and even copying instead of moving). Ultimately, these are just workarounds and Apple really needs to fix this sooner than later - it's getting stupid.
But actually, considering all of the different issues you are experiencing, backing up the data to an external drive (and verifying the integrity of the backup), then performing a full "erase and install" might be the one stop solution. I'm not sure about the best strategy for reimporting the data once that is done since I have never used the Apple tools and do not know how they handle ownership and permissions (what is perserved, etc.) - hopefully someone else will be able to fill in those details.
So you were bitten by the "Get Info" crash bug, a second issue caused directly by following what turned out to be bad advice in an official kb article, and had a permissions problem that couldn't be resolved using the tool that is supposed to deal with permissions problem. I'd call that a Leopard beta hat trick.

  • Satellite A660-1FM - Max. screen resolution of external monitor

    Hi All,
This may be (probably) an easy questions to answer but I have a Satellite A660-1FM and want to use it with my Samsung Syncmaster (forgotten model) external screen. I grabbed an HDMI->DVI-D adapter, and all is well, but here is my question:
The toshiba specs page for my laptop (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A660-1FM/1096013/toshibaShop/false/) shows an external resolution capability of:
    Max Resolution : 2,048 x 1,536
Max Refresh Rate : 100 Hz
    Non-interlaced resolution with max refresh rate : 1,920 x 1,200
But I get what I call standard HDMI resolution (not surprising I guess) when connected HDMI->DVI-D to my external monitor. I have previously run this monitor on my desktop at much high resolutions than 1080P, so the monitor is capable.
Just wondered what I'm missing here, or is it a case of the graphics card spec is higher than is possible to output from the laptop ?
    Thanks for any help
    Andy

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
As to native resolution of the external monitor - unsure how to find this - but it was running a with a lot higher res when it was connected to my old desktop (which has died and been replaced by this laptop)
R/E the adapter - My Samsung Syncmaster monitor has a DVI-D cable sticking out the back of it, so I needed to connect that to my laptop - either vga-> DVI-D or HDMI-DVI-D to make use of it.
The external monitor is currently running at 1680 x 1050 using the laptop HDMI output -> HDMI-DVI-D adapater -> external monitor.
Before my desktop died, using the same external monitor I was running at 1680 x (guessing a bit here) 2048 ish (really sure I had a greater y res, this 1050 lark is really squishy).. in any case, the Y resolution was much much much better than 1050.
But, according to the specification for this laptop, it can output 2048 x 1536 to an external device (How, the HDMI and VGA outptu cannot go that high right ?)
So, I'm trying to figure out how to get the resolution on the laptop spec onto my external monitior, which has more than handled this resolution before my old gaming desktop died.
Thanks again for the reply - I hope this makes my question clearer.
    Cheers
    Andy

  • Setting resolution on External Monitor

    I have a Macbook Pro (from 2008) and a 25.5" Samsung T260HD which has a native resolution of 1920x1200.
I need to mirror the displays or at least have all icons and such on the external display. When I mirror them, I cannot get the external monitor to use it's native resolution. instead it uses a lesser setting.
Only when I have them set to display side by side does it use 1920x1200, but then I have to go back and forth which doesn't work for my purposes.
    Thanks for advice!

when you do a mirror, you are asking for a 1:1 replication of your laptop screen. so, it's not feasable to have 2 different resolutions in mirror mode. it will only do whatever your laptop is set to.
the only MBP that will push 1920x1200 in mirror mode is a 17" HD or unibody 17". you will have to run in clamshell mode or in extended desktop to utilized the native res of the display.

  • How to enable the wide resolution on external monitor on Satellite A40-261

    Hello to all,
I've a Satellite A40 notebook and just bought an external widescreen monitor. I only find normal resolutions in the display property box. Is it possible to expand the range with widescreen resolutions?
    Regards, Leander

    Hello guys.
Firstly I would like to say something about the screen resolutions.
Mostly the certain resolution is not available because the resolution is not listed in the graphic driver. In other words, if the driver doesnt support this resolution so you will be not able to choose it.
We try to investigate a little bit:
    @BKV
You have a Satellite M100. As you said this notebook has a ATI card installed.
Did you check settings in the ATI catalyst? Go to the display properties and choose Advanced. There you should choose the ATI catalyst tab.
New window should open and you should see the ATU catalyst control center.
Check View Advanced view display option. Check this area. Maybe the resolution is available there.
    @Lea
Your unit uses Intel graphic card but the Intel tab should be also placed in the Advanced options of graphic card properties.
If you dont found the right resolution so I presume the driver does not support it!

  • Setting the resolution for external monitor

    Hello all,
I just purchased a ViewSonic vx2025wm 20.1" external monitor for my PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz 12". I've scoured the discussions regarding my question, but couldn't seem to find it. So I'll post it here...
I've successly connected the ViewSonic to my PB and the image seems to display fine in "spanning" mode (ie images span over two screens). However, when I try to "mirror" (ie have the same view show on both screens) the external monitor displays a 1024x768 resolution (the PB displays this as well, but that is the optimal resolution for the 12"). My question is this: how can I mirror while having each screen display its optimal resolution (the optimal resolutions would be 1680x1050 for the External monitor, and 1024x768 for the PB).
Thanks in advance for any wisdom on this!
    PowerBook G4 1.5 Ghz 12 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.25 Gig RAM

Thanks for the quick response -- and one follow-up question. Will turning mirror off (which, if I understand correctly, will place the displays in spanning mode) cause a strain on my PB? Since the PB will be supporting the displays of both the external monitor plus its own display. Does that make sense? I actually read something related to this in these discussions which is why I brought it up. I will try to locate that discussion and place a link in this thread so I can better explain.

  • Satellite L500-1XD - cannot find an update for PC health monitor

This TBS advises updates to PC health monitor and HDD/SDD alert.
HDD/SDD alert has a published update in the relevant downloads section but I cannot find an update for PC health monitor.
Any one got any bright ideas ?
Otherwise this seems quite a balanced system.

    Hi Paolo30,
Thanks for your contribution. I agree with your model designation
I would like to download ver 1.5.6.0 but it does not seem to be listed on the download list (Two and a quarter pages long) for the L500-1XD on the Toshiba-Europe website. I am using I.E.8
Where are you seeing this listed ? Could you give me a URL please ?
It is an important update as it resolves a conflict between video streaming from HD and SMART HD messages as described in the TSB.
The only upgrade that is tagged as 1.5.6.0 is the Bullitin Board and this does not sound like the correct type of application. There was obviously a major update on 21/6/2010 there are 30 odd updates with that date.
    Kindest Regards

  • Tecra S2 - resolution for external monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600

    Hello! I'm new here ...
I have a Tecra S2 with Windows XP SP2 and graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600. Internal resolution (display of notebook) is 1024 x 768. Its work fine. But I work with an external monitor VGA with "DualView" function. It is a Samsung Syncmaster 940N.
It??s all OK (19", resolution 1280 x 1024), with my new monitor Samsng Syncmaster 203B don't work: The external monitor's native resolution is 1400x1050 but the maximal resolution available is 1280 x 1024. And so, using 1280x1024 resolution, will cause the image on the external monitor and text is not clear.
I cannot set the 1400 x 1050 resolution via Control Panel nor via NVIDIA -menu.
Graphic card drivers are updated to the last version on the Toshiba site. Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is supported from my monitor Syncmaster 203B.
Max. resolution for external video of NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is higher as 1400 x 1050.
I need to use this new monitor, can you help me?
    Many thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the Tecra S2 isn't capable to display the resolution 1400x1050.
Here are the resolutions you can use.
    Support Resolution/Color(CRT)
    640x480 16bit/32bit colors(Depending on CRT)
    800x600 16bit/32bit colors(Depending on CRT)
    1024x768 16bit/32bit colors(Depending on CRT)

  • Low resolution on external monitor using Kernel 2.6.39

First of all, I don't if this is the right place to post this thread because it involves a kernel from the AUR, but, as that kernel is the same version as the one from [testing] I thought it would be a good place. Furthermore, the thread involving intel cards, xorg crashings and kernel 2.6.39 convinced me.
    That post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=119442
As user of the kernel26-pf package from AUR, yesterday I updated from 2.6.38 to 2.6.39. I'm also using an Intel card on my laptop but not suffering from the crashes that the other post, ¿maybe because I'm using KDE?. The only trouble I suffer so far is that the external screen plugged to the laptop is not detected with the resolution (1280x1024) as it was before. Instead that, it is forced to 1024x768 or lower.
I have tried forcing it by adding a new mode to xrandr, but it does not detect the full frequency that screen was being used before (59.9 from 60.0 or 75.0).
My xorg logs do not show nothing as xorg does not crash at all, and no graphic issues have been detected so far.
I have not tested yet the 2.6.39 kernel from [testing] as I'm reporting the issue when I have tested that is not some kernel config that I have broke but the version. (currently I'm downloading kernel26 from [testing] but I cannot test if the same happens before 3 hours or so, as I'm writing the post from college)
As this is the first time I report some issue like this, I'm kind of clueless what logs should I post here to be helpful.
EDIT: Quick test: In both kernels 2.6.39 from [testing] and kernel26-pf I can log into kde and do everything I do without problems, also, no touchpad broken.
EDIT2: It also does happen on kernel 2.6.39 from [testing]

I have tried packages on testing related to xorg or intel drivers to see if that problem was still existing. It does. Doing some research I have found that this seems to be kernel related and not a driver or xorg thing and I have found no solutions.
There are all kind of troubles with intel graphic cards and i9xx drivers:
    http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a … orks&num=1
Also, there is quite a "funny" discussion here:
    http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=263684
As it seems this is a kernel related problem, do we have more options than wait from upstream to fix this? Does anyone find any workaround?
EDIT: adding dmesg output when I plug the external monitor:

  • Help with Resolution on External Monitor

I want to set my HP Envy 15t to drive an external monitor, not as an extension, but rather as my primary monitor.  My external monitor is a Viewsonic VX2250, a little older, and requires that I use a HDMI-to-VGA adapter.  (The Viewsonic also has DVI inputs...not sure it that would make a difference.)  On my current tower setup, I use the monitor in its recommended (or native mode) setting of 1920x1080.  I like this screen a lot.
The adapter is a Bytecc HM-VGA005 and the specs seem to suggest that it can handle a variety of video resolutions - Full HD (1080p), WUXGA (1920x1200 RB mode), and UXGA (1600x1200 VESA mode).
The 15t currently runs in the recommended resolution of 1366x768.  If I understand the specs right, in HD mode it's 1366x768 and in FHD mode it's 1920x1080.   The graphics card is an Intel HD Graphics 4600.  Is this the reason that I can only get HD resolution and not FHD resolution on the laptop?
But whenever I plug all this together and try and change the laptop screen resolution settings, the external monitor only shows 1024x768...pretty lousy.  I have it so that the laptop screen is dark and only the external monitor is on.  But there doesn't seem to be any choices I can make to improve this resolution.  I've checked to see that the graphics driver is up to date and it is.
What do I do to get the best screen I can on the external monitor?  Would buying a new monitor with HDMI inputs achieve better results?  Do I need a different adapter?
    Thanks...Kurt
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Me again!  Well, it was a bit of the nut behind the wheel.    I checked in with the store that I've been buying my cables, adapters, etc.  He said to bring the Viewsonic monitor by to see what might be going on.  As I was setting up, he asked about power to the adapter.  I had the USB cable but didn't think it was needed.  But after putting everything together in addition to power to the HDMI-VGA adapter, I could see I was getting the resolution that I was hoping for.  Why it worked on the Dell monitor, no clue...maybe a better monitor or different VGA cable.  The Bytecc adpater didn't come with any instructions, so I just didn't know.
All is well.  Hope this helps someone in the future.

  • Satellite U200-122: How to use Pivot function on external Monitor?

I have a Satellite U200-122, would like to use the external monitor in pivbot function.
But I do not find where I can have the display rotate, so that it will be displayed in portrait format on the external monitor and accept resolution 1024x1280.
    Any ideas?
Graphic driver: Intel Chipset 945GM express
    Thanks
    Isabel

    Thax for the tipp, but:
That is exactly my problem: the intel graphics acceklerator DOES NOT offer any rotate functionality! I wonder why because I have read in many forums that it should have, I know it can be seen on the right part of the intel graphics accelerator window, but nothing is there.
So i wonder, if in the U200 there is possibly a different graphic driver or management sofwtare, which just does not support this? Could it be that a graphic driver does not offer pivot???
    Shortcuts do not work either.
Btw: when i put the laptop on a kensington workstation, then the kensington graphic manager -display -link - is used, and then with many workarounds i do get the monitor to show pivot in necessary reolution. but i want a to use a pivot monitor also at home without dockingstation...

  • Maximum resolution on external monitor

wondering if anyone knows what the maximum resolution the graphics card on my emac (1.42 Ghz model) would support for an external monitor?
I am currently running a 17" monitor at 1280 x 1024 using the screen spanning doctor hack and it works well, but I would like to replace it with a 20" 4:3 display, or maybe a 22" or even 24" widescreen display.
According to Apple an external display will only support the same resolutions as the internal monitor, but using this hack more resolutions are unlocked. Am I right in thinking that this should support the same resolutions as a standard AGP 64MB Radeon 9600 ?

I would say it may be close to the powerbooks from 2004 that used the mobile version of the GPU (2048x1536 at millions of colors)

  • How to enable widescreen resolution for external monitor on Equium A60?

    Hi
I have got a Equium A60 with a ATI Radion Mobility 7000 grahpics chip in it. A short while ago the LCD died and decided to use a external monitor instead of replacing it. However, the external monitor is a 22" widescreen monitor which the computer does not provide a suitable display resolution for. Is there any way of updating the graphics card driver to provide widescreen formats. I have looked on the toshiba updates but there is nothing any newer on there and ATI are unwilling to offere support on a laptop.
    Any ideas ?

    Hi
You cannot choose your favorite resolution because the graphic driver does not support it.
Possibly the 3rd party driver would support your favorite display resolution but to be honest I would not use such drivers because it could cause some serious notebook troubles.
The point is that such 3rd party drivers are not tested and not certified by Toshiba.
Therefore the usage is only at your own risk.
