Satellite M300: Low sound microphone levels and crackle sound using Skype

Brand new machine, and tried to use Skype.
Low sound levels and a crackle through it.
Tried it in sound recorder, and low sound, but no crackle.
Can not get the sound levels up.
Driver for Conexant HD SmartAudio 221 shows as up to date (4.36.7.0)
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Do you use Toshiba factory settings? YES
Which OS do you use? VISTA
Do you have the same problem using headset? NO
I have narrowed it down a little more. It is only when I am connected to my wireless network. I can have Wi-Fi enabled, and connected to the internet via a mobile internet connection and there are no issues.
When I am connected via the router, I have this issue. You could say it is the router, however I have various other machines connected to the same router, without issue.
So, to clarify.
WiFi on - not connected to internet via router, however connect by other means - All ok
WiFi on - connected to the internet via router, issue.
Router is Thomson SpeedTouch 570

  • Help with Audigy 2 Zs and crackling sound ..

For the past 5 months or so ( not long after I got the product ) I have been getting this periodic issue with the sound ...
I'll start to notice a popping and crackling sound coming from the left channel when loud sounds issue from the game ( multiple games ). After a while I figured ou ttha tI could :
a: Reset all my settings to Default , Then reconfigure my surround
    or
b: Reinstall and/or patchthe current driver set ...
Both seem to fix the issue for some time then it all returns within a month or so .... It's a rela pain to have to keep configuring my Audio settings every month.
    My system specs are
    Asus A7N8X DLX Rev. 02

    Gig Corsair XMS
    BFG 6800GT 256
    Audigy 2 ZS
    Raptor 74 Gig
and some Altec Landsing Speakers ( I forgot the model number )
Any idea what could be causing this ?
    Thanks in advance.

I got the fix for you twellons. Just go in the audio control panel and mute the midi/synth in the panel and you will have the fix. My system specs are close toy yours amd 2800xp, nforce 2 a7n8x dlx ver .04 and a original audigy card. Now creative has to address this issue in new drivers. Also download the demo of contract jack and when you load the game and the game menus comes up, scroll through the options in that menu like new game, load game quickly and you will here that popping noise in only the left speaker. and when you do that fix that i mentioned above, no more popping . So try that out and please get back to me and tell me if it worked or not. That issue was tough to figure out.
    P.S. You owe me

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Conference calls are got when you reach level 4. Sometimes, ASC hosts may do a conference call about something related to Apple Support Communities. You will be notified through mail or through the "Using Apple Support Communities" forum.
The last community calls were only for level 6 and higher users, so it's possible that you don't get invited to any until you reach level 6

  • K7T Turbo R Limited Edition and crackleing sound

I started getting a crackling sound recently. I never had that problem before. The only thing I can think of that I have done that may have started it was to update the bios and the via chipset drivers. I tried to reinstall the 442 drivers (only the pci part) but no change. I reinstalled the 443.
I read in other threads that it could be either a latency problem. Also moving the sblive sound card could do fix the sound. I don’t seem to have any latency timing adjustments in the bios and I tried moving the sound card to number 3 and the number 6 slot with no luck. I have tried a couple of 686 bug fixes and they didn’t work. But I have also read where that wouldn’t work so I removed them.
Is there anything that might work?

If the music plays fine in iTuneds on the comouter try:
    - Unsyncing all the music and then resyncing the music
    - Restoring from backup
    - Restoring to factoru defaults/new iPOd.
    For restoring see:

  • Pops and crackles when using EAX in F.E.A.R.

    Here is my system:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    intel i7 930
    ASUS P6T:SE Mobo
    2x Nvidia GTX 470 SLI
    12GB DDR2 RAM
    1TB 7200 RPM HDD
Creative X-Fi Titanium and the latest non-beta drivers
-I also have the Windows PID patch and the SLI patch
I recently discovered Alchemy and how it would enable EAX effects (though I'm still not exactly sure if EAX is responsible for the 3D positioning or if it's just some fancy processing to make sound effects sound cooler).
That said, I noticed that after enabling Alchemy and EAX effects, F.E.A.R. started to make popping and crackling noises. But, these noises wouldn't start immediately. It would take a couple minutes before I started hearing them, and it would get progressively worse and worse. Eventually, the game itself would start stuttering and it became impossible to play because of the choppiness.
I have never really experienced this with another game, and only noticed this behavior after enabling EAX effects. I have played F.E.A.R. before with no problems, granted, this was without EAX effects enabled.
Furthermore, I have no idea what needs to be enabled. In the F.E.A.R. sound menu, I have these options:
    Hardware Mixing
    EAX 2.0
    Advanced EAX HD
I can turn any combination of those on or off, and I'm not really sure which ones I should have on and off. Turning on Hardware Mixing and Advanced EAX HD seems to have the best results, but then the sound starts jacking up after playing for a few minutes and eventually, the actual gameplay itself will start becoming choppy, making it impossible to continue playing. It even becomes hard to navigate the menus because the cursor is affected by the choppiness as well.
And the popping and crackling even continues after I exit the game, even in Windows, but to a lesser extent. And it seems to quit completely after a few minutes. Very strange.
Also, I tried disabling SLI and it did not seem to make a difference.
What is going on here? I just want to play this game with 5.1 surround sound and, preferably, EAX, because I do like the way it sounds. It's just that I can't play with EAX because it starts jacking up after awhile.
Edit: It seems that turning on "Hardware Mixing" enables discrete 5.1 channels. Without Hardware Mixing on, I only get stereo output from F.E.A.R. Is this correct behavior? I'm testing further to see if the popping and crackling occurs when Hardware Mixing is enabled (but not any of the EAX settings). I'll report back when I know.
Edit #2: After several minutes of playing with only Hardware Mixing enabled (and no EAX), no popping or crackling occurred. I will continue to test different combinations.
Edit #3: After more testing, it seems that I can use Hardware Mixing (which enables discrete 5.1 channels) and Advanced EAX HD together, which sounds absolutely fantastic. I believe that the problem is caused when I enable EAX 2.0 -- even if I immediately disable it, it seems like it actually starts causing a problem. So what I did was completely restart the game (and my computer) and ONLY enable Hardware Mixing and Advanced EAX HD making sure not to touch EAX 2.0 at all, leaving it disabled.
I've been playing for about an hour with no pops or crackles at all, let's hope it stays that way!
tl;dr - Turning on EAX 2.0 and Advanced EAX HD at the same time can cause undesirable results even if you turn off EAX 2.0. Restart the game (and perhaps your computer) to make sure that when you start the game, EAX 2.0 is completely disabled and ONLY enable HW Mixing and Advanced EAX HD.
Edit #4: Sadly, I am still noticing some intermittent popping, but after playing for awhile it never gets extremely bad. It is much less severe than earlier. Not sure where to go from here.

Just for curiosity I didn't install ALchemy straight away. As I suspected, none of the advanced sound mode options were enabled, which means they've just got an overly complicated menu. It could have just as easily been one option called "Audio Processing" with "Hardware", "EAX 2.0" and "EAX Advanced HD" as the available options - no need for a "Software" setting since it would be disabled without any of those, and the others could be en-/dis-abled based on your hardware capabilities. Oh well - chalk that one up to poor menu design.
When I did install ALchemy, however, I just used the default settings - 4 buffers at 25 duration - and turned on all three options in-game. I played through until the first checkpoint in the 3rd "level" (after the third loading screen w/briefing) and didn't notice anything unwanted with the sound. It appears that I'm using ALchemy 1.43.21, going by the installation files properties, but in all honesty I'm just using what came with the latest Recon3D drivers.
The nearest equivalent I can find for the X-Fi Titanium is a beta 1.43.06, but I might be able to find a way to upload the Recon3D one somewhere if you want to see if it works and fixes the problem. Alternatively, they can be extracted from the driver suite for the Recon3D easy enough. I use 7-Zip to do it, but other archive programs can probably do it as well. Look in the Audio\extras\Audio\ALchemy directory.
It's a shame the protagonist in FEAR keeps wigging out. It's actually a pretty darned good shooter when it's not trying to warp your brain - but at least there's no baby crying like when Max Payne goes nuts.
I just noticed that I get popping, crackling, and eventually game-freezing in Left 4 Dead 2, as well.
I used Alchemy to enable EAX for Left 4 Dead to (I read in the FAQ on Creative's Alchemy page that you could enable it for source engine games), and while playing, I starting hearing pops and stuff just like as in F.E.A.R. Eventually, the game started lagging as well (like in F.E.A.R.), and I had to quit out. It even persisted in windows for a bit as I would notice it when changing the volume and hearing the little "ding" with a pop or crackle in it. I restarted my computer.
I wonder if perhaps the problem isn't Alchemy, but if my sound card is overheating? But that seems a bit far-fetched. I do have two gpus which produce a lot of heat, but both of them stay within safe temperatures (though they do get close at times). In fact, one of them is even water-cooled, and it stays very cool.
It just seems especially strange that, although diminished, the pops and crackles continue even when I quit to my desktop. I don't hear them unless a sound is playing, though. And even then, it is quite diminished from they way it was during the game.
Also, how do I check my version of Alchemy? Could I not use the software update to get the latest version?
Edit: I just tried the software update. It said that my version of Alchemy is 1.41.02, and that I have the latest version installed.
Do different versions of Alchemy exist for different Creative cards? For example, perhaps 1.41.02 IS the most recent version for my x-fi titanium, but not for your recon3D.. Or can I use any version of Alchemy? Maybe getting the most recent version would fix my problems.
Edit #2: I found version 1.43.06 of Alchemy. I went to the x-fi titanium's page on Creative's site and clicked on "beta application", and it was there. Downloading/installing now and testing.
Edit #3: Version 1.43.06 of Alchemy does not seem to work. I do not get any EAX effects in F.E.A.R. at all, no matter which combination of options are enabled.
Also, as a side note, does "EAX Effects" need to be enabled in the audio control panel? I've tried it both ways, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

  • No Sound Output options - and no sound - when in Native OS 9

    Hi,
on my MDD G4 (the last one, single 1.25GHz G4), I have no sound output option in the Sound Control Panel, when started in native OS9. As a result I cannot increase the volume above 'mute' and hence have no sound at all. Extensions-off makes no difference.
In Mac OS X, all variants I've tried, I have perfectly normal sound. In Classic mode too, sound works (but I can't use the Sound CDEV obviously).
Is there a special driver (Sound Manager vXXX?) required for this machine or what? The Sound Manager which it does have, which is shown during startup, is not crossed out.
    Thanks for all suggestions!
    Cheers, A.

Yes, that was my suspicion actually, because I am quite sure that I am NOT using the correct OS. I bought the MDD second hand, and it didn't come with OS9 disks. I tried installing a retail OS 9.2 system, the installer told me No, not on this Mac. Even weirder, when I copied someone else's OS9 disk, which was allegedly from a MDD also, I was also told by the installer No, I don't work with this hardware. I guess that the disk I got was from an earlier MDD (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP63), not the 1.25GHz later one (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP106), though I don't know what actual hardware differences there are.
I eventually just copied the system folder from my Yikes 400 G4, updated it in Classic mode to 9.2.2, then restarted in native OS9 and wow, it worked. Except for the graphics card, drivers for which were a nightmare to track down. ATI has somehow removed all OS9 drivers from the entire internet (yeah, who'd have thought that that was possible!). Again, eventually I found someone who had hoarded the ATI Retail Driver Installer from October 2002 and he kindly let me copy it and then yay I had graphics acceleration. (Even the Finder was awful to use without it).
Chances of finding a machine-specific installer disk for THIS particular mac are very small I suspect.
    Cheers, A.

  • Very low external microphone level for podcast?

I'm using GB '09, v.5.1, on a MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo running OS 10.6.4.
I want to start podcasting, but the level on my microphone is extremely low. It's a Sony ECM-MS907, a battery-powered mic with a miniplug connector.
When I test it, the levels are barely visible in the editor, and that's holding the mic up to my mouth. From six inches way, my recorded voice is barely audible.
Inside GB, I try to set the input source to Line In, but I never get that option on the Input Source pulldown menu, so I use Stereo 1/2 (Built-in Input). I've tried forcing the option through Preferences to Line In. That doesn't seem to influence the GB settings.
Any thoughts? I have Input Volume at max in Preferences and Recording Level at max in GB, but nothing seems to make the recorded level anywhere near as loud as, say, the effects samples. Thanks for your help.

it's often hard to get a consensus on anything, but my opinion is that it's a mixture of comfort-level, flexibility, and quality.
    • i've heard lots of good things about the Snowball, and it's simple
    • a mixer and good mic would offer greater flexibility for recording different things while adding a level of complexity (if you're not familiar with using consoles, etc) and possibly lowering quality if you use cheap gear.
a lot depends on what you want to do, and what you expect from your final product.
and after saying all that, i remembered that you're talking about strictly voice for a podcast. i think for the simplicity alone i might lean toward the USB mic, it would provide excellent quality for podcasting, and not put more things in your signal chain to deal with when recording.

  • Satellite A30 very noisey with clunking and clicking sound!

26 months old now, whenever i save music or veiw a page on the internet with many images i can hear allsorts of clunking and clicking (the sounds i think comes from infront of the disc drive) i dont think the computer is any slower but on some occassions the clunking noise happens and im convinced something inside is going to die and when its clicking it sounds like a internal part has snapped; all said it is still working ANY ADVICE OR HELP?
[Edited by: admin on 04-Feb-06 08:32]

    Hello
Like Stefan said, the sounds are starting because of some HDD activities. This is a normal issue but if the sounds become louder so you should take care. It could be a HDD headcrash. So you should always save your data and important files if you dont want to loose it.

  • Sound breaking up and loud sound spikes

Since the Iplayer update, the sound on my box is breaking up and giving very loud spikes whenever I change chamnnels/start iplayer etc.  it seems to settle down after a while but when it happens it is VERY loud.
I am connected via HDMI to TV and optical to a Surround Sound system.
Also the menu response is very slow at times.
Anyone know any solutions (I don't want to phone Indian as I find them very patroniosing and basically useless!)

There have been reports of volume problems since the iplayer launch, some with very low volume compared to other sources and some with very loud volume when watching iplayer compared with ondemand/freeview
there is a thread here volume problems
have a look and see if it helps explain a bit about what is happening
also changing the audio from surround to stereo has helped some people but as you are using a surround system it might not be appropriate for you
you can change the setting in the following menu
BT Vision -> Settings -> General Settings -> Digital Audio Output

  • TS2771 Sound Effects Image and Not Sound

The sound bar slide bar go down automatically. I restore the Ipod and It doesnt work. What can I do?

If a restore to factory defaults doesn't resolve the issue, it's likely hardware related, in which case you'll want to schedule an appointment at your local Apple Store/Genius Bar to have them take a look at it and determine service/replacement options.

the special effect audio is no longer available to insert into the video.
one of the special effects audio I inserted is no longer playing.

Try doing a reset on the iPhone,
Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.

  • Traveling abroad and want to use skype on my mobil...

I will be traveling abroad to Costa Rica and Nicaragua and taking my mobile phone with me.  I will be able to use my phone to connect to the internet whenever wi-fi is available.  I will not be able to use my phone for regular calling.  So, I want to know if I can make calls through skype using my phone as long as I am connected to the internet through wi-fi?  My calls will be to regular landlines or mobiles, not to skype numbers.  I will therefore add skype credit once I know that I will be able to call.
    Thank you

I can understand how this might happen but I think you posted in the wrong forum...if you're planning on using free wifi sites.  Skype wi-fi is to pay for service in hotspots where wifi isn't free.  See this link for an explanation:
    http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/features/allfeatures/skype-wifi/
In any case, yes, if you have wifi service, free or paid, Skype on your phone, and credits available, you can call landlines or mobiles with Skype.  The rate for the calls will depend on the country you're callling.  You can see the rates here:
    http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/prices/
