Save 2D drawing as pdf automatically

I need to save about 200 2D drawings as pdf's for people who don't have the drawing program. I can open each one separately and print to PDF but that takes a long time. How do I create an automator that will do this automatically?

Here's an example of the kind of workflow which might work. It worked for me with image files that can be opened in Preview:
1) *Ask for Finder Items* (Finder Library) -- Type: Files and Folders. Select "Allow Multiple Selection."
2) *Get Folder Contents* (Finder Library)
3) *Open Finder Items* (Finder Library) -- choose Preview.
4) *Run Applescript* (Automator Library) -- a GUI script is used; make sure that in System Preferences > Universal Access, "Enable access for assistive devices" is checked. The script:
*on run {input, parameters}*
*tell application "Preview" to activate*
*tell application "System Events"*
*tell process "Preview"*
repeat
*if exists window 1 then*
*set fileName to name of window 1*
*keystroke "p" using command down*
*click at position of first UI element of (first UI element of sheet 1 of window 1 whose buttons is not {}) whose UI elements is not {}*
*delay 0.1*
*keystroke (ASCII character 31) & return*
*delay 0.1*
*set value of text field 1 of window 1 to fileName & ".pdf"*
*delay 0.1*
*click button "Save" of window "Save"*
*delay 1.75 -- adjust lower to suit or higher as necessary*
*keystroke "w" using command down*
else
*exit repeat*
*end if*
*end repeat*
*end tell*
*end tell*
*return input*
*end run*
Notes:
If the vc6 files cannot be opened in Preview, then you might try changing the open-with application in step 3, and in the AppleScript replace each instance of the word "Preview" with "Graphite." There's no guarantee that Graphite's File > Print dialog can be scripted exactly the same way as Preview's, however.
The GUI script will cause every selected file to open onscreen before any one of them is converted. For this reason, trying to convert a folder containing 200 files all at once would likely not be a good idea. Instead, you might try selecting groups of 10 or 20 at a time and see how it goes.
The *delay 1.75* command was set to accommodate a particularly recalcitrant folder of 20+ animated gifs. I found that 1.75 seconds was shortest delay time I could get away with without seeing an error stating that an item named such-and-such already exists in thus-and-such location -- the error which will result if the current window (window 1) isn't afforded enough time to close (keystroke "w" using command down) after the Save window's Save button is pressed. By contrast, I had no trouble converting a folder full of 30+ ordinary jpegs at a delay setting of 0.5 seconds, or less. You can adjust any of the delays as you see fit.
Before running the workflow, it might be a good idea to create a new destination folder for the converted PDFs so that they're kept separate from the original files. You can do this by opening a test file manually. Choose File > Print > Save as PDF, and select the newly-created folder to save it to. Doing this will establish the new folder as default, ensuring that when the workflow runs, the PDFs will end up there. Be sure to remove the converted test PDF from the new folder so it isn't seen as a duplicate of one that might appear in a workflow later on.
If nothing else, I hope the workflow and the AppleScript it uses provides an idea for you... Good luck.

  • I use iMac desktop. I can't save web pages as PDF file by using Firefox, but by Safari is fine.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.4. Today, I tried to save my email content as a PDF file. However, I only got a PDF file that have partial content of email. Then I adjust the printer setting and did it again, then I only got a blank PDF file. There was nothing inside. Then I tried to save email as a PDF file by using Safari browser. And I got a complete and sucessful PDF file. I usually save web pages or web mail, online receipt as PDF file by use Firefox. But since I have updated to the new version, there were many problems with my Firefox. I tried to restore all my application and made Firefox in the old 3.6.3 version which I used to have no problem. But now still not working.

I solved it for myself: it was my HP smart-web printer crap that was a plug in and add on for firefox that somehow automatically got installed when I upgraded to 5. I disabled both in the add-ons manager, and voila, printing is working.
It seems there are many things, like this and the Google toolbar, that were screwed by the oddly fast update to 5. Looks like Mozilla didn't give anybody any notice! Must've been some really bad security hole.

  • Can't save as multi-page PDF in CS4

Hey everyone, I'm having major trouble with page tiling in CS4.
I have a CS2 file that has two pages in it with page tiling enabled, I saved this as a PDF with multiple pages just fine out of CS2. I now have it open in CS4 and am unable to do the same thing, my PDF always comes out as one long page. I can't work with multiple artboards because the file will be used in CS2 again and needs to remain backwards compatible.
In the Print Dialogue I have "Tile" set to "Full Pages", the print preview window on the left shows me two pages, just the way it should be.
Once I go into the Save as PDF Dialogue in CS4, I do not have the "Create Multi-Page PDF from page tiling" - option that is there in CS2 in the general tab.
I've been trying to find a solution for the past two hours but am at my wit's end. I'd greatly appreciate some help.

Just draw two artboards where the tiles would be then save it as a pdf. I should open in CS 2 without the artboards since CS 2 does not support artboards.
Nothing will be different in CS2.
Or simply make a copy for CS 4 with artboards and one for CS 2 but adding artboards to the CS 2 file when opned in CS 4 should be  a problem.

  • CS5 Unknown Error, Can't Save After Drawing/Copying Vector Linework

I've found some other versions of this problem on the forum that seemed more straightforward, but this ones a bit stranger.
I have a fairly large file with 8 artboards (no memory problem), and a variety of images and vectors.  It was saving fine as an .AI file until I started getting the "Unknown Error" message.  Tested it out and it appears that I can save if I introduce any amount of more images/text, but the moment I try to save after drawing another line/copy-pasting an existing line/shape, the unknown error occurs.
Tested the file on another computer and it had the exact same issue so it's definitely a file-specific issue and not a problem with my Illustrator.  Also copied parts of the content to new files and the exact same error occurs.  It does not occur in other files.  Also, I'll need to keep PDF Compatibility checked when saving.
I'd appreciate any help on the subject.

    constanzaman,
You may try pasting parts of the artwork cautiously, to see which part(s) may be causing the issue.
Here is a general set of instructions, going all the way:
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).
Here are some websites where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,

As far as I remember, the first one is for Win and the one is for Mac, while the third one should be for both.

  • How to generate PDF automatically.

    Hello,
I am generating INVOICES using REPORTS 6i.
After created the PDF format, I send to the customer by email.
I would like to do this process automatically.
So how can I generate PDF automatically?
There is any pl/sql functionality available to generated PDF automatically. If so how can I generate similar like report 6i format and symbols (Logo).
    Pls give me some ideas.
    Thanks,Kannan.K

    Kannan,
a scheduler is part of Reports, with which you can automate to generate Reports. There's a Queue Manager with your installation. But for this you need Application Server based Reporting - not Client/Server.
Also it's possible to send an PDF-Report as an EMail-attachment directly. Starting with 9i there's also an PL/SQL-API available (Event-based Reporting).
    regards

  • Inability to print or save and open certain PDF files

I am using Adobe Reader XI with Mac OS 10.9.4 and Safari 7.0.6.  If I obtain a PDF file online  --  for example, an IRS confirmation letter when I obtain a taxpayer ID for a client - if I attempt to print it, it is blank.  If I save it on my desktop as a PDF and attempt to open it, I get an error message that it is not a supported file type or the file is damaged.  However, I have no problem with PDF files I receive as email attachments, access via dropbox or similar vehicles, or save myself (for example, when printing a Word document, electing to save as a PDF).
This is a major problem for me - but Adobe doesn't offer phone support (even on a paying basis, such as Apple provides).  Some weeks ago I was able to initiate a chat about it and told to reinstall, which I did with no change.  Now I can't even find out how to initiate a chat because the only trouble-shooting support option is forums.
    My email = [email protected]
    HELP!
    Thanks.

Hi, and thank you for your response.
Here is what you could try.
    1.     Go to IRS.gov.
    2.     Click on "current forms and publications."
    3.     Enter "SS-4."
    4.     That should lead to a fill-in form that states at the top that you can save the information.
    5.     Fill a bit of arbitrary information in.
    6.     Try to print.  At that point, I can print, but the pages are blank.
    7.     Whether or not you succeed, save as a a PDF on your desktop.
    8.     Try to open.  At that point, I get the error message I described.
I forgot to mention in my post, I think, that I was able to do the things I described that I need to do (and have in the past always been able to do on my computer) on my wife's computer, which is an Apple that has not been upgraded to Reader XI, Maverick, or Sarari 7.0.6.
As an aside, with the upgrade to Maverick, I've had extensive and ongoing problems with Apple's mail program, to the extent that I'm now assigned a "personal" senior technical analyst with his personal email and phone number.  I feel honored, but I'd rather have a working system.  As an attorney, my product is blocks of time during which I apply 40+ years of experience - but the result of all of this is that I am spending untold hours of unbillable time because of the (perhaps not unreasonable) problem software designers have of anticipating and resolving the literally of millions of interface problems their programs can have.
I have a question.  I know that with Apple, when one is out of warranty and AppleCare, you can pay a nominal amount for telephone support for a given issue.  I cannot find anything like that with Adobe.   Is there something?  My on-line chat experiences with Adobe attempting to resolve the problems I am encountering were a complete waste of time.
    Thank you for your help.
    Tom

  • How do I save changes to a PDF with AxAcroPDFLib.AxAcroPDF?

    I am using C# and have created a regular Windows form. I have used COM and registered AxAcroPDFLib.AxAcroPDF. Here is my code;
    axAcroPDF1.LoadFile("myfile.pdf")
    axAcroPDF1.Show();
    MessageBox.Show("Showing...");
This works fine. But, just like the browser, I cannot save changes to the PDF. I have the full version of Adobe Acrobat installed, Standard 8.0. I also have the Pro. version 7.1.0 on another PC. When I click save I just get prompted to save it locally, just like I was in the browser.
If I edit these normally, just via Adobe Acrobat Standard, I can save my changes. I cannot do it via the AxAcroPDFLib library.
How do I save changes to my adobe acrobat pdf file in my program? Thank you for any help. please.

I did this after I wrote this. I have looked at the documentation but I can't find what I am looking for. Is there another way to open a file for viewing that has the full capabilities or using the normal program...one that uses something besides AxAcroPDFLib.AxAcroPDF. The sample that did have a view used AxAcroPDFLib.AxAcroPDF so it wasn't helpful. All I need is normal program functionality of adobe standard or profession within the application. The users have a full version installed on their PC.
    Thanks again.
