"Save as" dialog -- filename input

Hello,
each time if I save an edge animate using the "save as" dialog , the save as dialog opens and I click on another file in order to reuse the file name. The file name is prompted in the save as dialog.
Now, I like to modify the file name: I click into the file name and enter the first character. Instead of not changing the position, the program is selecting the complete file name and deletes the file name if you continue writing. This is in my opinion an error. The save as dialogs in Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver (I have not tested other Adobe applications) have the same issue.
Does anyone has a solution for this? I don't have this issue in MS Office or Visual Studio. Seems to be a problem in Adobe applications only.I have updated to the latest available AI, DW, PS and Animate versions (CC 2014.1 and so on).
Yours
Stephan

Hello,
it is windows standard feature inside a save as dialog box if the box is opened and if you click on an existing file name, the cursor should be places at the end of the filename which is completeley selected.
Then, you have the option to jump at the end of the input field and the filename will be automatically unselected. This is different inside Adobe file save as dialoges and does not correspond to Windows standard behaviour.
I would change it in order to be compliant to the expected standard feature.

  • Filename in Save As dialog when saving PDF file

    I have a web site serving up PDF files. Without going into details, the URLs of the PDFs are not just your basic URL but look simething like this:
    http://www.domain.com/WorkFlowApp/Clients/demo1/secure/Promo%20Cover%20Cool-MedH i.pdf?userId=55b64ad5-28a2-490e-b3d6-4944099a390f#collab=CollabService@http://ww w.domain.com/ICCollab/IC_Service.asmx?WSDL
    In this case the actual filename is "Promo Cover Cool-MedHi.pdf"
    While viewing in Safari (OS X), if the user saves the PDF to their local machine, the Save As dialog comes up and the filename field is automatically populated. The problem is, instead of using just the filename, the field contains this:
    http---www.domain.com-WorkFlowApp-Clients-demo1-secure-Promo%20Cover%20Cool-MedH i.pdf?userId=55b64ad5-28a2-490e-b3d6-4944099a390f#collab=CollabService@http---ww w.domain.com-ICCollab-IC_Service.asmx?WSDL
    I know when performing the same action on Windows using Internet Explorer, the Save As dialog box filename field is populated correctly with just the filename (although it shows up URL encoded as Promo%20Cover%20Cool-MedHi.pdf, which is OK).
    I'd like to be able to force Safari to use just the filename in the Save As dialog box. Has anyone come accross this problem and figured out a solution?

    Hello Ebnul.nao
    I am having this same problemwith trying to work this out.
    Did you succeed in the end?
    I will really appreciate your help if you did

  • Any way to get unique filename in "Save as" dialog?

    is there any kind of 3rd-party add-on or whatever that would give an option in the "Save as" dialog to simply make up a file name that would be unique in whatever folder it's trying to save to?

    Do you mean to automatically insert a filename for you in the Save As: field of the dialog? Why is that needed when the field is usually always in a selected state so you can enter a filename of your choice? Maybe I don't quite understand what you are asking.
    ok. Suppose I am downloading files from an on-line web archive where many of the files have the same name. This means that for each one, I have to modify the name manually in the Save As: field, so they don't overwrite each other when I'm saving to a folder on my local hard drive. I certainly can enter new names for each, but it gets very tedious when there are a lot of files. I was wondering if there's any 3rd-party software that puts an extra option on there to automatically save with a unique name.
    thanks,

  • Suggest a filename extension in a save file dialog

    Hello guys,
    does any of you know, how to suggest the user a certain filename extension in a save file dialog?
    I'm using both the normal save file dialog:
         javax.swing.JFileChooser.showSaveDialog,
    and the Java Web Start save file dialog:
         javax.jnlp.FileSaveService.saveFileDialog.
    For both ways I seem not to be able to suggest the user a certain extension for the filename.
    For the normal dialog, I call setFileFilter on the JFileChooser instance.
    The filter shows up in the dialog, and is used by default, but when the user types a name and approves, the returned filename does not have the extension added.
    Of course I can add the extension programmaticaly, but not when inside the JAWS sandbox.
    For the JAWS dialog, I pass an array containing my extension, but it is ignored as if I didn't specify any extensions. The API specs already say that this parameter "might be ignored by the JNLP Client".
    So how to tell the user what extension to use?
    More people must have encountered this problem.

    @tjacobs01
    Hi Tom,
    I have a question regarding your classes
    tjacobs.ui.fc.FileExtensionFilter and
    tjacobs.ui.fc.FileChooser.
    When I look at your code, I see the filename extension is appended in showSaveDialog:     public int showSaveDialog(Component c) {
                        setSelectedFile(new File(f.getAbsolutePath() + "." + ((FileExtensionFilter)filter).getType()));
        }It gets the extension by calling getType on the filter. But getType is implemented as:    public String getType () {
            return mExtensionList.get(0).toString();
        }So this returns the first type in the list. It does not check what filetype is selected by the combobox.
    Am I missing something?
    Also, in getDescription:    public String getDescription() {
            if (mDesc == null) {
                mDesc = "";
                for (int i = 0; i < mExtensionList.size(); i++) {
                    mDesc += (i != 0 ? ", " : "") + "." + mExtensionList.get(0).toString();
                mDesc+= " files";
            return mDesc;
        }you seem to iterate through the list, but only take the first entry every iteration.
    Can you explain mExtensionList.get(0)?
    Do you know how to test what type is selected in the JFileChooser's combobox?

  • Save File Dialog problem

    Hello ! I'm new with java so dont be to rude plz ;) ...
    First, my situation :
    I have a jsp that calls a servlet that get data from a database. After that I have to take these data and write them in a .txt file by calling a Save File Dialog. What I've done for now is to put
    response.setContentType("application/msword");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition",
    "attachment; filename=\""+fileName+"\"");
    in my servlet after created my file.
    My problem :
    The Save File Dialog shown but if I save the file, it contains the code of my jsp page. I suppose that I have to "bind" the file and the response, but how do I do that ??
    Or if you have a better way to do it ...
    Thx a lot !

    Here's some changes ...
    I'm now able to get the file with a Save File Dialog, but I also get my jsp code in the top of my page.
    Here's my code :
    String fileName = "MyData.txt";
    File myFile = (File)request.getAttribute("file");
    /*cyc.mypackage.DataDefects ddDefects = bConn.getddMyDefects();
    cyc.mypackage.Export exp = new cyc.mypackage.Export();
    File myFile = exp.createDataFile(ddDefects, fileName);*/
    String value = "attachment; filename=\"" + myFile.getName() + "\";" ;
    response.setContentType("application/octet-stream");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition",value);
    response.setContentLength((int)myFile.length());
    BufferedInputStream fif = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(myFile.getAbsolutePath()));
    int data;
    while((data = fif.read()) != -1)
    out.write(data);
    fif.close();
    and the result is :

    I am getting this only in Acrobat 9.0.
    When I tried the same in Acrobat 8.0 I didnt get Save As dialog. It saved with out "Save As" dialog in "C:\\new.pdf".

    In what you have posted, there is no reason it shouldn't work the same way in Acrobat 9. I would recommend that you submit your complete application to developer support.

  • How can I add form field value to the file name in save as dialog box

    I do not want the form to be saved automatically, just want the form to auto populate the "file name" only.
    A little background on the forms I want to use:  My company has 70 retail outlets, I'll use one of our pdf forms called an "Incident Report" as an example.  I would like for a store manager to be able to complete the form, then email the form to the main office (I already have javascript to add field values and form name to the email subject line), once the main office receives it, I want for them to be able to file the pdf electronically on our server.  We have mutliple forms that we use so I do not want any of the forms to automatically save anywhere, (at this time anyway) I just want the office personnel to be able to click "save as" (or whatever they will need to click) and the form automatically add certain field values from the pdf they have received, of which will be different each time the form is sent to the office (Date, store #, employee name etc.) in addition to the name of the form in the "File name" of the "Save As" dialog box.  The main office employees will decide into which server file the pdf should be saved.
    I'm using Acrobat 8 professional, the stores and office personnel use Adobe reader.
    One little note:  We currently print and file a lot of paper on a daily bases, as soon as I can get this to work, we are going green.
    Me and a lot of trees in this will really apprecitate any help you can give with this!  :-)

    You might want to take a look at the document "Developing Acrobat Applications Using JavaScript" (js_developer_guide.pdf) which is part of the Adobe Acrobat SDK, which can be downloaded here. Read the "Privileged versus non-privileged context" (p. 45ff.). You will find an example for "Executing privileged methods in a non-privileged context". Should be almost exactly what you are looking for.
    Small Outline: For security reasons ("the user always has to know what's going on") you are not allowed to use the "Doc.saveAs"-method without the user permission (--> in a non-privileged context). In order to reach the goal of a privileged context you can use a trusted function. You do this by creating a JavaScript file (*.js) in either the Application-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%ProgramFiles%\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Javascripts") or the User-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%AppData%\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\JavaScripts"). Add the following content to the new file:
    myTrustedBrowseForDoc = app.trustedFunction( function ( oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = app.browseForDoc( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    myTrustedSaveAs = app.trustedFunction( function ( doc, oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = doc.saveAs( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    The developer guide actually wants you to add this content to the existing "config.js" file. I recommend creating a new file, since its easier to deploy in a network. Either way, every client/user who needs to be able to save documents this way, needs this JavaScript Code in his Application/User-JavaScript-Folder.
    Within the Acrobat Document, which you want to obtain a certain file name, you can now use the trusted functions "myTrustedBrowseForDoc" and "myTrustedSaveAs" to store the file. To call the trusted functions and deliver the file name you can either you use a form field (button) or you add a new menu item. Add the following JavaScript Action to the button/menu item and change "Roller Coaster" to the name of the field which contains the value which you want to become the new file name:
    var fileName = this.getField("Roller Coaster").valueAsString;
    try {
         var oRetn = myTrustedBrowseForDoc({bSave: true, cFilenameInit: fileName + ".pdf"});
         try {
              myTrustedSaveAs(this, { cPath: oRetn.cPath, cFS:oRetn.cFS });
         catch(e) {
              console.println("Save not allowed, perhaps readonly.");
    catch(e) {
    console.println("User cancelled Save As dialog box");
    Good Luck!

    The root of the webservers changes from server to server and
    sometimes it depends on the path you run webserver exe.
    The best i have found to overcome this kind of problems is by
    using getResourceAstream() method which basically looks at classpath locations only, but still this has some problems like it should kept at the
    specified classpath becoz the getResourceAsStrem() method is not static
    method and it always associated with the class object and the file
    accessing also should be in the same package/classpath.
    by using getResourceastream you cannot look at other places (except classpaths)
    and this should be used only if you looking for .properites definitions.
    the Second best method is
    see you have a file called "context.txt" right
    before you create a file, first create a directory at the root, let say
    "\tmp"
    and then create a file \tmp\context.txt
    and then open an output stream to it either using fileoutputstreamm...
    and then write all output content to servlet/client output stream.
    this will be the best becoz you are specifying the "\" the root
    and this is common for all operating systems and definitely it will create at the root directory either serverroot or harddiskdrives root
    so you will never missout and the exceptin will also not comes along the way
    cheers..
    if you get new thing , let me know
    bye

  • How do I move the 'save as' dialog out of my way in Preview?

    I have a stack of pdf files to rename, for which I need to read the contents. The filenames are composed from the authors, title and date which are inside the documents. The trouble is that I can't save them without the 'save as' dialog occluding the document, which I need to see in order to fish out the authors, title and date.
    How can I move the 'save as' dialog off the document view?
    Is there another way around this problem?
    I'm using Snow Leopard's version of Preview, in case it matters.

    Yes, that makes it pretty much impossible if you need to grab text from various places first and assemble it into the file name you want.
    I can copy/paste text out of a PDF with the Adobe Reader into a Save As dialogue box, but then run into your same issue with Preview. I can't move back to the document to get another snippet of text.

  • How to Display save as dialog box.

    Hai all,
    am having a jsp page in which i display some values in Table. if i click a button it should show a save as dialog box, from that i should give a file name then all the content must be save in that file name. Any one give idea to open save as dialogbox from button click.
    Thanks.

    You can t do what you want.
    But you can do something similar..
    In stead of save as do a submit to a servlet and have you servlet download the file to the client
    download by setting your contenttype to
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; name=\""+filename+"\"; filename=\""+filename+"\";");
