"Save As" downgrade to Acrobat 3.1

We are using some outdated software for a database.  The software saves documents in Acrobat, but will not recognize anything past
version 3.1.  Is there anyway we can use our Acrobat version 8 and save as version 3.1?

Thanks Bernd.
This option only takes me back to 4.0.  I tried it... but it won't work.  It will accept nothing newer than 3.1.

  • Keyboard shortcut for "Save a Copy" in Acrobat 9 Pro?

I cannot find a keyboard shortcut for Save a Copy in Acrobat 9.3.2. THere's nothing in the help docs.
Even more bizarrely, the idiots who designed the GUI assigned the y shortcut on the File menu to both "Modify PDF Portfolio" *AND* "Save a Copy", so hitting Alt + f, y performs only the former not the latter.
Any ideas or am I SOL?
    Thanks.

    Hi Dan,
"Save a Copy" is Adobe Reader.
It is not associated with Acrobat Professional's "File" drop-down.

No, Adobe is no longer selling any version of Acrobat 9 and the program is EOL, anyway, with only the most critical issues being patched.

  • How to save a PDF in Acrobat XI after making changes without changing the document name

Whenever I work in Adobe Acrobat XI, I am forced to 'save as' when trying to save the changes I have just made.  I am unable to save the document under the same name I have been working on it under (the way you can do in every other program).  This happens every time I create form fields, merge or extract pages, add text, etc.  This is extremely annoying because then I have to go into my documents, delete the old version, and then rename the document I was working on.  HELP! I work in Acrobat every day creating and editing documents and there HAS to be a better way!

CTRL+F brings up the search bar within the document. When I go to File --> Save (or CTRL+S) I receive an error message that states "The document could not be saved.  The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open.  Pelase save the document with a different name or in a different folder". This message pops up for EVERY document I have modified that I try to save.

  • Default save as folder  in acrobat XI

In acrobat X and before, when we complete editing a pdf file, and then use "save as" to save the work, the default folder is exactly the destination of the modified file, but in acrobat XI, it is not, so when we choose "Save as", sometimes it will be a boring work to select the original folder.
please consider this in further updates, or if there is something wrong with me, please tell me!

I have a related question, as I am considering upgrading to Acrobat 11 from 10:
In the "Save As" dialog box, is there a Windows search box built in, like many programs have? So, that, after you scan something, and select Save As, the dialog box has a a search box (usually at the top right) where you can type in the first few letters of the folder you want to file the newly scanned document in. The folders matching that search will then pop up as choices, and you can quickly select the correct folder to save in. Without that, for newly scanned docs (I use Fujitsu Scan Snap), I have to drill down into a lot of nested folders, which takes a lot of time. That's why I keep hoping Acrobat will get the search box in the Save As dialog, and then I'll upgrade. Can anyone tell me if it's in 11 (i.e., XI)?
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • "Save As" Forms In Acrobat X

I have created multiple forms for my organization in LiveCycle that allow trainers to evaluate new hires. All of the forms are located in a Portfolio that are on the main server. The trainers are able to fill out part of the form, save it, and return to it later when they have more time. They are using Reader 9 to accomplish this.
The problem is the organization is slowly swapping out the old computers with new computers. These new computers come with Acrobat X on them. Now the trainers are unable to "Save As" the partially completed forms. This problem only occurrs with computers with Acrobat X on them. As a test, one of the IT guys removed X and installed 9 and the problem was gone.
I have scoured the web looking for a work-around and saw reference to using LiveCyle to change the priveledges. I created the form in LiveCycle, but used 9 Pro to extend the priveledes allowing users to save the forms. I do not know how to extend the priveledges in LiveCycle.
Regardless, the forms were working in 9, but not in X. Can anyone give me some advice?

Thank you George for the reply and advice. I downloaded the free version of
Adobe X Pro, opened up a file and enabled the priveledges. I re-saved the
file and opened fine and was saveable with filled in form data on the
    same computer.
I saved the file and took it to work to one of the 'new' computers that
    only has Adobe Reader X and the file is still not saved with the message;
"Data typed into this form will not be saved. Adobe Reader can only save a
    blank copy of this form.
The form, with changes, still works on all of the Adobe Reader 9 computers.

  • Does anyone know how to save to sharepoint from Acrobat XI pro with SDK or Javascript?

The goal is to have Acrobat Pro watch a folder, OCR any document that appears, then save it to sharepoint using the contents of the file name to determine certain meta data.
If watching a folder is not practical then it can be run manually, but it would be better if it could watch the folder.  I tried searching but I am having difficulty finding examples of saving to sharepoint using the built-in javascript capability or the SDK.
If anyone can point me to or show me an example of any of these issues I would appreciate it.  In the end I will need to find the documents, OCR them, take apart the file name to determine metadata and destination location, save to sharepoint, delete the original file.

I think I will need to see a javascript sample that sets key metadata for the document to be saved, and some kind of documentation on how to tell the Action to save to sharepoint.  I assumed it would be pretty straight forward but I am having trouble finding any kind of documentation.
Also as files are processed, I need to move them so they don't get processed again.  I was thinking that in addition to putting them in sharepoint it would make sense to move the move to a processed directory as a backup and delete the original.
I did not see that option in action either, so I could use come guidance.

  • Click Save on Toolbar Freezes Acrobat 9.5.2

    Hi,
I have Adobe Acrobat 9.5.2 on Windows 7 x64. It recently updated automatically. Since then, I've had several problems. One is that if I click Save (or Typewriter) icon on the tool bar, Acrobat freezes and I have to shut it down.
Can anyone explain why this is happening and how to address it? Thanks,
    Gordon

Could you try repairing Acrobat via Help > Repair Acrobat Installation ?

  • HOW TO save PDF Forms in Acrobat Reader

    Hi,
I have made a timesheet form in Acrobat Professional. The idea with this is to put it on our intranet site and let my collegues register their working hours there (today we have an excel form).
The big advantage in using the PDF Form instead of the excel is the digital signatures function. This makes it possible for signing also when not in house - perfect in every aspect but....
...my collegues would like to save the timesheet before sending it. Printing is of no option since they are out on the road most of the time.
In Adobe Professional this is no problem but in Acrobat Reader you cannot save anything but an empty form. I have searched for security levels in the form but I cannot find anything. Howcome can't you save the document you have made as a copy in Reader? Is there a way of getting around this issue? I cannot put all collegues on the Adobe Professional program, it would be too expensive.
Please help! I hate having to go back to excel because of this malfunction.
    Best regards from Sweden
    Annika

Sorry, I was wrong, we don't have the professional suite. We purchased the Creative Suite 3 Design standard. However the Adobe Acrobat program itself is version 8 professional.
From what I understand the only way to make the form savable in Adobe reader for my collegues is that I buy also the Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions.
The price for this extension is 1500 USD.
To try to explain once more what I want to be done...
I am making forms for my collegues, where they can fill in their travelling costs, their working hours etc etc. This they have to do once an month and then send to their boss. BUT my collegues have only Adobe Acrobat reader, and with that program you can only save an empty form, ie the form empties itself when saving. But of course my collegues wants a copy of their working hours, travelling costs saved on their own computer. Prints are not acceptable.
Please help, I can't figure out how to open up the saving rights for my collegues in my adobe professional program...
Sorry for beeing so dumb, but I don't understand...

  • Form created in ES4 won't save data entered in acrobat readerXI

I have created a large form in Live Cycle Designer ES4. If I save the form as a pdf and open it in Acrobat Reader XI I get the message that I cannot save data entered in the form only print it. All I want to do is to put the form on our web site for people to download, complete, save and e-mail it back to me. I did consider an alternative method which is if I distribute the form and take the distributed pdf and save it locally, when it is opened in Reader you get the submit button on teh purple bar on teh right hand side. This will confuse a lot of our users so if there is a way to not have the submit button then that would work but how do I stop the submit button appearing on the purple bar?

You have to Reader-enable the form. You can do this in Acrobat 11 by opening the form in Acrobat and selecting: File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools
Reader 11 can save non-enabled AcroForms (forms created in Acrobat), but not non-enabled XFA forms (forms created in LiveCycle Designer).

  • Setting a Save As Path in Acrobat 8

    Hello All,
I have looked for an answer to this but can't seem to find what I am looking for.
Our office is looking for a way to streamline our printing to PDF. What I want, is for Acrobat to start my users in a specific directory when they do a print to PDF. That way they can give it a file name but don't have to navigate the directory tree to get to the correct directory.
I have found a setting in the driver that controls the PDF Output Folder but I only can:
    a. Specify the directory where it saves to without prompting for a file name.
    or
    b. Set it to "Prompt for Adobe PDF File Name" but it starts me in a temp directory and I have to navigate our directory tree to get to the right folder.
Can someone help me with this? Is there a way to do what I want?
    Thanks,
    Daniel Joaquin

The only way I've found to control the path is to open Acrobat by double-clicking a PDF in the location where I want all subsequent files to be created. Any PDFs written to file will automatically point to that original location.

  • Unable to "save as jpeg" in Acrobat 7 with Win7-64bit

I am using Acrobat 7.1 with Windows 7 64 bit. I already know that I can't install the PDF printer. But now I can't even open a PDF and SAVE AS a JPEG file. I thought I was doing this with the current configuration, but perhaps I am remembering from when I had a different version of windows on my computer.
If this can be done, does someone have any idea what could be wrong and how to fix it?
    Thank you.

Have you checked the Adobe Knowledge base about what Acrobat versions are updated for working with Wndows 7?
You should upgrade to version 9 with all patches.

  • Import and Save Quark Express Files - Acrobat Pro XI

A friend of mine has some newsletters that she produced in Quark Express in the late 1990's and wishes to share them with me. She no longer has Quark Express and neither do I. I'm wondering if it is still possible to import these files into Acrobat Pro XI on a Mac and then save them off as PDF files? Or, do I need to save them as .ps files in Acrobat Pro XI, then run them through Acrobat Distiller? I have looked in the Adobe forums but cannot find anything applicable to Acrobat Pro XI. If someone can let me know what is the best way to go, then that would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for any assistance.

Acrobat Pro cannot open QuarkXpress files so you are SOL.
If these are really older QXP files like version 3 or 4, you can try to open them in InDesign.
But InDesign will not open any Quark files newer than version 4, also not sure if InDesign CC will do this at all.
There is a Markzware plugin called Q2ID which may work for you.
If neither of you have QuarkXpress, these are your only options.

  • Is possible to save a form using Acrobat Reader? How to?

    Hi all,
I designed a static pdf form using Livecycle. I want to send it to the form recipients, and I need they return me the pdf form filled. I can do this without problems on Adobe Acrobat Pro, but my mates that are using Adobe Reader can't save the filled form. Adobe Reader offers them to save a blank copy of the form or print it filled. But this isn't what I need. I need to have x copies of the form (of the pdf file) filled by my x recipients. Is there any option in Livecycle to allow saving the filled form on Acrobat Reader?
    Thanks in advance,
    Enrique Llorens
P.D. Apologies for my awful english...

    Hi Enrique,
In order for users with Reader to be able to save your form, it has to be 'Reader Enabled' before you send it out.
    You have three choices:
Reader enable the form with LC Reader Extensions ES2, which is a server based component of the enterprise suite. This is intended for processing large volumes of forms/data and is an additional cost per form.
Reader enable the form using Acrobat Standard v9 (or Acrobat Pro v7 to v8). This has license restrictions to less than 500 users per form.
Instead of users with Reader sending the form back as a PDF. You could set up a 'Submit as XML' button. This does not require the users with Reader to Save the form.
I have a summary of features (functions that are available/restricted) depending on whether the form is enabled and how it was enabled on our blog: http://assurehsc.ie/blog/index.php/2010/05/using-livecycle-forms-in-acrobat-and-reader/
When you open the sample at the end of the post, if you hover over the question marks, you will see screenshots of the enabling process.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall
