Save dialogs no longer allow remote locations
I used to be able to save files to remote (SFTP, in this case) locations using the save dialogs of Firefox, Thunderbird, Google Chrome, etc. The SFTP locations are mounted through Nemo (therefore, by GVFS, I presume). This changed sometime this week (I could do this on Monday), instead I am now presented with this error:
I presumed this would be a bug with GTK, since the three apps are all using GTK, as far as I can tell, but GNOME apps like Evince aren't. In fact, the dialog from Evince is wildly different from, say, Chrome's.
The versions of packages mentioned so far:
extra/gtk2 2.24.25-1 [installed]
extra/gtk3 3.14.7-1 [installed]
aur/google-chrome 40.0.2214.93-1 (1027) [installed]
extra/thunderbird 31.4.0-1 [installed]
extra/firefox 35.0.1-1 [installed]
extra/evince 3.14.1-2 (gnome) [installed]
Has anyone else come across this problem? I would think this is a problem with GTK2, but the gtk2 package was last updated on 16th October. Since then I have applied upgrades to my system numerous times and used this feature often.
make sure you have a Preferences folder:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\Preferences\".

Pasting from a web page into a File-Save dialog no longer works; causes a freeze-up
When I place an order on Amazon, I copy the order number, then print the invoice to .pdf. When the file save dialog comes up, I paste in the order number as part of the file name. I used to, that is. At some point the pasting part no longer worked: nothing (visible anyway) is pasted, but something is happening, as the file save process hangs, and I have to use task manager to kill it. Then, the print process is trashed - if you try to print again, you get an error - and I have to restart Firefox to clear that.
This copy/paste procedure works fine in IE & Chrome. The only way I was able to reproduce what you described is to run the script after copying a picture.
Here is a refined version.
It make two attempts to grab text items from the clipboard.
If both failed, it send an error message.

Dialog Instances in remote locations
Hello,
we have a couple of remote locations where the response time of the portal is rather high.
Has anyone ever tried having a portal dialog instance in a remote location with rather slow WAN connection and could let me know if that improved things a bit?
Regards,
AndiAh - now you mention webdynpros, you could probably do that yes as they just make RFC calls. I would probably set up a separate portal (or webdynpro) system at the remote location. If you did a remote portal, you could have webdynpro on it and federate it into the main portal for any other content.

Call Save Dialog [Save As] is not allowing me to Bookmark in Portal
Hi All,
I am facing some problems trying to implement BEx bookmarking into my Portal. To explain a little further about our setup, we have a master web template which is connected to approximately 80+ queries. Within that web template, we have a button which has the CALL SAVE Dialog Save_As which should, in theory, allow users to bookmark their queries via the Portal.
Unfortunately, this is not working and when a user attempts to bookmark a query and save it via the Portal, the following blank screen is displayed with this URL: http://PORT NUMBER/irj/portalapps/com.sap.portal.navigation.helperservice/html/child.html.
If anyone could offer any insight into this issue I'd be truly grateful - THANKS!
BimHi,
There might be a technical Rollup
When you restart the Application Host Helper Service on Windows Server 2008, it might help.
Or, if not, why don't you try to take an backup of the existing queries & perform a backup. I'm sure the error can be resolved.
Thanks,

When I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my iMac, it will no longer allow me to use selected folders from iPhoto to run as my screen saver. Is there anything I can do to fix that? Thanks for your help.
Does this involve iPhoto i some way? Seems more like an issue with your web browser.

Open & Save Dialog Window Location
It's a hard one to give a name to, that's why I can't seem to find it on a search.
Basically, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to get the "save dialog" to not sit over the top of a program when it comes up.
Best example is MS Word 2008 (mac) - when I go to save, it covers the file i'm saving (which has the filename I need to use in it !)....it would be far better to have it dockable/undockable and have it off to the side of the programs window, or at least, not locking it into one place.
Anyone know of plans for upgrades to Leopard including this or any workaround/solution ?Paul,
The save dialog box, which is called a "Sheet", does not sit over the program when it comes up, but instead slides out of the document's title bar. This is actually considered a feature of Mac OS X and will probably never be changed.
In the past, the Save Dialog Box used to float on top of all other documents or windows, which sometimes caused problems when you had multiple documents open. This was especially a problem when you quit an application and you couldn't tell which document you were saving. It was also a problem because you couldn't do anything else with your Mac until you actually saved the document.
I apologize for being curious, but I have to wonder how the Save "Sheet" is covering the filename you need to use if you haven't yet saved the file? The temporary filename Word gives to your document when it is created is not covered up by the Save "Sheet" at all.

The system cannot find the file specified
I have tried from so many forms. This is so frustrating. Thank for everyone/anyone who wants to help. So this is what happened: I had to uninstall my previous sqlserver 2012(which worked great) for some reason, and I uninstalled everything from that download.
Then I installed the trial edition of sql server 2012 (64 Bit) and It wouldn't connect to the database. (Error mentioned above.) My local DB is COWBOYS. (COWBOYS is also my computer name.) After this, I have tried downloading sqlexpress and sqlserver 64bit
many times and cannot connect to my local DB.
How do I connect to my Local DB?
Also, I think this might help: (When I run sqlserve.exe, which I was able to find in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\LocalDB\Binn, I get an error: Your SQL server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with(Error getting
instance ID from name). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem.
I would happily re install it, if it wasn't my 20th time.
I don't have any remote connections, I don't use username/password, only window authentication. I work mostly on visual studio, but without able to store /retrieve data, I don't know how to survive.
May be the solution is very simple, but I am too frustrated.
Some of the things I have tried:
From a command prompt, enter one of the following commands:
net start "SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)" OR
net start "SQL Server Agent(instancename)"(for instance)
on my sql configuration, I cannot start anything because there is nothing there to start. I can post more details, if that would help. Also, some more details about the error:

Any one that can help me, I will be greatful. Thank you so much. p.s. please ask me anything if you have any questions. It sounds like there are a couple things going on here. First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance. Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error. If you get an error, post the error message your hitting. If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect. If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
name in the connection dialog. Ex: "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name. However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format. Ex: COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
is the instance name you set during install).
You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install. Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.

Reader X - Save dialog box popup issue
Hello,
I found that in Adobe Reader X whenever you goto save a file using just the "Save" (ctrl+S) option it brings up the Windows file system box prompt, which allows the user to see other windows files, folders, etc.. This is a huge issue for us as we do not want our users to be able to save to different locations or change the current filename on accident.
How can I prevent this Save dialog from showing? It is the dialog I would expect to get from choosing a "save as" option, not just your standard "save" option. Also, we are opening PDF files from our own software developed in C#. So if there are any open parameters I can pass to disable this save dialog that would be helpful as well.
Please advise or provide insight.
Thanks!
SethSeth -
This is the expected behavior for Reader X, it's somewhat unexpected, so let me explain the rationale behind it:
With Reader X, Adobe introduced the concept of sandbox - this mechanism severly curtails the rights provided to the Reader process to prevent exploits from running. In your case, Reader process cannot write to user's disk without users' explicit approval. The Save as dialog that you see is seeking that approval. Certain folders such as the TEMP folder are white listed, you should see if you can incorporate those into your workflows.

Hi,
One of my pet peeves about Jdeveloper and by extension of SQLDeveloper is that the file open/save dialog does not have quick way to navigate to familiar places on my computer like "My Documents" or "Desktop". For eg., in Word, I can navigate to My Recent Documents, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places.
I know Jdeveloper and SQLD are also meant for the Unix Platform, but having shortcuts like My Network Places, Desktop, My Computer etc atleast for the Windows based tools would make it immensly easier to find files.
Something even better would be to allow each person to customize that list of shortcuts he can have in that list.
Thanks
AlexYes, this is absolutely necessary for Windows users!
In a non-java Windows application I can usually put a shortcut to my favored directory in the directory an application might default to, then double-click it and the windows environment is smart enough to move to that directory, and I can save my files.
Java is stupid in this regard. It thinks you are trying to save the file to the name of the shortcut. I CANNOT stand an application that isn't smart enough to set preferences to default file locations!
I should also add that I set the USER_DIR to the directory I save all my files in (on my u:drive) and SQL Developer then runs those files without the entire path (I can just put in @a for example) but it is too STUPID to save to this directory!

OCT config and Open/Save dialog behaviour
Hi
I have used the OCT in 2013 Office Proplus (setup /admin)to configure the installation and much of it works as expected. However, I am unable to get the Places Bar to display the custom locations I configured using the OCT.
I will be installing Office 2013 on Windows 7 clients in a domain.
As the OCT configuration is not being applied for the Places Bar, can someone help me with an alternative solution, please?
Secondly, is there a way to restore normal functionality to the Open and Save dialogs? We are upgrading from 2003 to 2013 and are used, along with all the other applications we use, to the Open and Save dialogs displaying the traditional browse dialog. Instead,
Office 2013 displays a page where you need to make several clicks to get to a dialog that allows you browse the network.
I have ticked the option to not display the Backstage when opening or closing files but the screens you see above are still displayed when either choosing open or save as or by using the corresponding shortcut keys.
Is there a way to force Office 2013 to go straight to the browser? Otherwise staff will end up wasting a lot of time navigating the pages when they don't need to. We use myriad folders and create new folders all the time. The ability to browse as soon as
invoking save as or open is essential.
Thanks.some discussion on the topic is here:

NoViewOnDrive Setting not being honored in Common Save Dialog
To restrict access to my C: drive from users using the Common Open/Save dialog, I set the decimal value of the
NoViewOnDrives registry key to 4. This works well generally and if a user types in c:\ they get a message indicating that such access is redistricted. However, if they enter in c:\users\%username%, it brings them to their profile folder and
allows them to save (naturally as they have write access to their profile).
Q: Why is the NoViewOnDrives setting not being honored for C:\users\%username% yet it is for other paths such as C:\ and C:\users ?Hi shocko,
Based on my test, the scenerio is as you stated. We can access the profile via inputing c:\users\%username%and can creare and save new file. Although you Prevent access to drives from My Computer, users still have right to save files to their
user profiles.
The easy way to prevent users to save data on a location is set folder redirection policy, redirect users’ desktop to a network share where users don’t have write permission.
Create a network share on your server, but don’t grant write permission for domain users group.
Hope this helps!

Logoff script is not completing on computers in remote locations
Hi folks,
We're running a logoff script on our Win7 Enterprise SP1 machines that invokes three robocopy statements which copy various local directories to our Netapp as a backup. The logoff script is called through GP at 'User Configuration|Policies|Windows Settings|Scripts
(Logon/Logoff)'.
If the machine is in the corporate office, there is no trouble, the script completes, and all files are copied. If the machine is located at our branch office (connected across the WAN via an IPSEC tunnel), or by Directaccess, the third robocopy statement
will not complete, and the logoff script just exits as the user is logged off. The robocopy log is truncated in the middle of the copy. This script can be run interactively and it will complete without difficulty. It would seem that the copy is taking
too long to complete?
In researching this, I found that the default time allowed for a logon/logoff/startup/shutdown script to complete is 10 minutes, and that this can be changed through GP at 'Computer Configuration|Policies|Administrative Templates|System|Scripts|Maximum
wait time for group policy scripts'. The trouble is that even in remote locations, the script fails way before that default 10 minute timeout. In fact, the script runs slightly less than a minute before the logoff occurs. I tried setting the max wait time
to 0 (infinite time), but that did not help.
I've also tried breaking the three robocopy commands out into separate batch files and invoking each with a 'call' statement, and adding 'start /wait' in front of each command, but neither of those worked either.
Does anyone have a clue why the logoff script is exiting so quickly? Thanks for any help,
iancDo your robocopy statements log to a file? It may be worth while to tweak your batch scripts a bit to generate a log.

Depending on the results of that, you may want to consider maybe creating a different script to perform some tests to validate network connectivity. The example below is a bit over the top but we ended updoing something similar to what's below for
testing remote connections, especially when users had intermittent connectivity problems. (Hence the goto top)

I need helping configuring RDP access to my local server from a remote location on my Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall.
I have attempted to configure rdp access but it does not seem to be working for me Could I please ask someone to help me modify my current configuration to allow this? Please do step by step as I could use all the help I could get.
I need to allow the following IP addresses to have RDP access to my server:
66.237.238.193-66.237.238.222
69.195.249.177-69.195.249.190
69.65.80.240-69.65.80.249
My external WAN server info is - 99.89.69.333
The internal IP address of my server is - 192.168.6.2
The other server shows up as 99.89.69.334 but is working fine.
I already added one server for Static route and RDP but when I try to put in same commands it doesnt allow me to for this new one. Please take a look at my configuration file and give me the commands i need in order to put this through. Also please tell me if there are any bad/conflicting entries.
THE FOLLOWING IS MY CONFIGURATION FILE
Also I have modified IP information so that its not the ACTUAL ip info for my server/network etc... lol for security reasons of course
Also the bolded lines are the modifications I made but that arent working.

ciscoasa(config-network)#Unclear what did not work. In your original post you include said some commands were added but don't work:
static (inside,outside) tcp interface 3389 192.168.6.2 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
and later you state you add another command that gets an error:
static (inside,outside) tcp 99.89.69.333 3389 192.168.6.2 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
You also stated that 99.89.69.333 (actually 99.89.69.233, guessing from the rest of your config and other posts) is your WAN IP address.
The first static statement matches Cisco's documentation, which states that a static statement must use the 'interface' directive when you are trying to do static PAT utilizing the IP address of the interface. Since 99.89.69.333 is the assigned IP address of your WAN interface, that may explain why the second statement fails.
Any reason why you are using static PAT (including the port number 3389) instead of just skipping that directive? Static PAT usually makes sense when you need to change the TCP port number. In your example, you are not changing the TCP port 3389.

QuickTime launches slow but only the first time
QuickTime is slow in Mac OS 10.7, that's been widely discussed. In my case, QuickTime is slow to open up a video file (MP4, AVI, WMV, etc,), but only the first time. After I've successfully opened up the one video file, all subsequent video files op

I know on Windows Movie Maker it automatically adds these glide effects to your montage, but it seems very complicated to do in FCP X. I downloaded Fx Factory but that seems difficult as well. This really shouldn't be very hard. Thank you so much and
