Save new values to INI file

I've been using Properties to read information from an ini file like this:
Properties props = new Properties();
try
     FileInputStream is = new FileInputStream(new File("myfile.ini"));
     props.load(is);
     is.close();
} catch(IOException e) {}
fieldone = props.getProperty("fieldone");
fieldtwo = props.getProperty("fieldtwo");Is there way as simple as this to store new values in the ini?
I've searched the forum but did not find an answer that looked like what I want.
Thanks,
James

Next time, please give me a little more information to start with. I'm all for the learning process, but it would have been easy for you to say you can't update a single value, when that was the question I asked. (I assume by your last condescending reply about calling it an ini file that you already knew that.) Then point me to the store method. I don't think its that far off base to think you would be able to update an ini, cfg, conf, or any other type of configuration file without having to rewrite the whole thing.
Sometimes RTFM isn't enough, that's why we look to you experts on the forum.
James
ps- I'm not looking for a verbal battle here, although I'm afraid one will start. I understand that people put their own time into this forum. I've even answered a few questions myself. The help on this forum is appreciated by the people who seek it.....

    Ntenich,
    If your table has a Header and your Legend text is in the header, it will be picked up by the table.

  • Retrieve data from a text file, incrementing the last value and save new value below

    Hi
    This was working initially. It is part of my LabView Project. I was trying to create a unique number that increments every time the adds the value to the list. It works on computer perfectly. But when I put this on a PDA, it seems to create a blank space when reading the contents of the text file after the last value, which means 0 + 1, which is not what I want.
    Please run the testUniqueNoOnPDA.vi first and change the path to C:\uniqueNumber.txt and save the uniqueNumber.txt file to your C drive and see What I am trying to do. Click the Enter button to increment.
    Why does the PDA create a blank space after the last value and a computer does not?
    I was working perfectly all week and it is not working well now.
    Help please, I think I'm missing something

    It works perfectly, it was a hardware problem. It depends on what PDA I used.

  • How to save a value (not in file) in Labview?

    Hello,
    I seems to be an easy question, but i don't know how to do it. I want to save the first value from my acquisition board (BUT NOT IN A FILE), in Labview "memory" and keep it for a later use. Like a variable stored in programming. With shift register it's continuing updating, and when i stop the shift register loop, it gave me 0 value. How to do it ? Thanks in advance!

    It sounds like they want the value to live through closing the VI and opening it for another time.  If you're just wanting to maintain the value through the single run, shift registers will carry the value.  If you don't initialize the value (wire something into the left register), they will maintain the value as long as you don't close LabVIEW and kill the memory allocation.
    If you want to keep the value until the next run, you'll need to use Invoke Node to make that value default.  That way, it will open up next time with the value saved.

  • Send Email and automatically save new value into database

    Hi,
    I think this is a very unique problem, hope that anyone could help me. I tried to send email notification using pl/sql block (check_delay) as below. Please focus to this section first, from the pl/sql:
    Problem 1
    --> if emp_rec.OVERDUE_AMOUNT_PAID is not null then
    dbms_output.put_line('emp_rec.payment_progress_id ' || emp_rec.payment_progress_id || crlf);
    select c.PAYMENT_PROGRESS into payment_progress from credit_sales c where c.PAYMENT_PROGRESS_ID = emp_rec.payment_progress_id;
    payment_ratio := (payment_progress/emp_rec.invoice_amount);
    dbms_output.put_line('count ratio progress payment to invoice amount ' || payment_ratio || crlf);
    dbms_output.put_line('payment progress ' || payment_progress || crlf);
    Here, sql checks whether overdue amount is being paid in progress from payment_overdue table..then creates variables for ratio(payment_ratio) and progress payment amount(payment_progress). After that if payment_ratio < 0.1 it must sends email notification to customer_id and customer_representative_id. However, it does NOT send notification to
    customer_id! How do I amend the code so that customer_id will get the notification too?
    Problem 2
    In problem 2, please focus to :
    -->if emp_rec.OVERDUE_AMOUNT_PAID is null then
    If customer does not pay any amount, sql will first checks whether delay between scheduled payment date and current system is more than 3 days..
    dbms_output.put_line('count days delay ' || round(sysdate - to_date(emp_rec.scheduled_payment_date)) || crlf || crlf);
    if round(sysdate - to_date(emp_rec.scheduled_payment_date)) >3 then
    After that, sql will counts how many times customer delays. If first time, the notification will count notification as number 1..and update remark column with the message and count value as below..
    select count(a.payment_overdue_id) as count into count from payment_overdue a where a.customer_id = emp_rec.CUSTOMER_ID and a.invoice_no = emp_rec.invoice_no;
         dbms_output.put_line('update remark : '||emp_rec.remark);
    update PAYMENT_OVERDUE set remark='Reminder notice no '||count where payment_overdue_id=emp_rec.payment_overdue_id;
    Finally, notification to be sent to customer with the message format as below..
    email_to:=emp_rec.customer_id||default_email;
    select b.INVOICE_NO into invoice_no from INVOICE b where b.INVOICE_ID = emp_rec.INVOICE_ID;
    subj:='Reminder to make payment for Invoice No '||invoice_no;
    mesg:='Kindly make payment for your amount outstanding as per Invoice No '||invoice_no||'. Reminder notice no '||count;
    dbms_output.put_line('Sending email to ' || email_to || ' subject: ' || subj);
    e_mail_message(email_to,email_to,subj,mesg);
    Unfortunately, no email notification being sent to customer with this message format.. Please help me to make customer to receive the notification with this format.
    Kindly, thank you so much for you guys to help me solve these two problems, Problem 1 and Problem 2....
    Thank you.

    Hi BownieCross;
    If you are using a local database file in your project the following may be the cause.
    From Microsoft Documentation:
    Issue:
    "Every time I test my application and modify data, my changes are gone the next time I run my application."
    Explanation:
    The value of the Copy
    to Output Directory property is Copy
    if newer or Copy
    always. The database in your output folder (the database that’s being modified when you test your application) is overwritten every
    time that you build your project. For more information, see How

  • CFP LV RT 2009 (ETS) Bug - Crashing on bad INI file

    Hello,
    This problem was actually touched upon in this thread:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=466392&jump=true#M466392
    I have found, that if the ni-rt.ini file contains any "unexpected"  or wrong parameters (like the thread above describes), my cFP 2210 with LV RT 2009 crashes. After the crash, the following is the situation:
    - The ni-rt.ini file is garbled with strange charcters.
    -  I have format the "disk"  and reinstall all software again to make it work correctly!
    This is bad, since I have never encoutnered such a problem with LV 8.2 on a cFP 2120:
    We have two of these running in a Concrete Production Plant here in Norway.
    They have been stable for 2 years.
    I could send updates via email: Just the .rtexe and the .alias file.
    The electrical engineer at the plant used FTP to replace the existing .rtxex and .alias file,
    Then he edited the .ini file with the name of the new .rtexe.
    If any errors where entered into the .ini file, the cFP simply would report the error to one of the logs, and NOT CRASH!
    I recon this is a bug, and it may easily be reproduced by trying to enter the entries I have listed in the thread linked to above.
    Geir Ove

    Hello,
    I have updated information on this problem:
    First a little background on "how it used to be"  when running LV 8.2 RT on a cFP 2120:
    To update the cFP with a new program, I did the following over a wireless network while the cFP was running but the machine it controlled was sitting stationary:
    1) On the cFP: renamed the .rtexe to .rt (to allow the file to be deleted)
    2) Deleted booth the .alias and .rt file
    3) downloaded new .rtexe and .alias files
    4) uploaded to my PC the ni-rt.ini file. Edit the name of the startup program
    5) downloaded the new ni-rt.ini file to the cFp
    6) From my PC rebooted the cFP
    THis may seem like a wild thing to do, but it works like a charm.
    It turns out, it also works well on the cFP 2120  with LV RT 2009.
    However, on the cFP 2210  the ni-rt.ini file becomes corrupted if the file is downloaded again to the cFP while it is running.
    If, however, the cFP is rebooted into Safe Mode first, I can still do all the steps above to update the cFP.
    WHy I do not use LV to do the update? Well,  in this manner the customer can do the update with no special tools or LV knowledge.
    Also, it is valuable to be able to update the cFP without accessing it physically, because it is not easily accessible (A conveyor running under the roof of the factory !)
    I do not understand why there should be a difference between the cFP 2120 and cFP 2210 in this respect !
    But since it is, it should be documented. We use LV to save development time, but this has costed extra time in this project.

  • .INI files vs .TXT files for changing default values in a .EXE?

    Hi,
    I have a two-part question related to updating the default values of controls in an executable:
    I am creating a LabVIEW executable for installation on two different production-floor computers.   I need to be able to change the default values of the front panel controls (as I would do with the “make this value default” command during development). From reading prior posts, I understand that I could use the “Write Configuration Settings File.vi” and “Read Configuration Settings File.vi” to generate a .INI file that would be read by the .EXE and would establish the desired values of the controls. However when I took a look at the block diagrams for those configuration .VIs, they don’t appear (to me) to be any easier to use than just reading values from a spreadsheet file. IE: Instead of using these configuration files and a .INI file, could I not instead just read values from a .TXT file that contains the desired values?   I’ve never used a .INI file before, or had to worry about “keys” and “sections,” so from my (perhaps naïve) perspective, the .INI method seems less easy to use. Is there any advantage to the .INI format?
    Regardless of whether I use the .INI file or a .TXT file, I have this additional problem: One of the things that changes when I install my .EXE file on a new computer is the COM port numbers used by two serial devices.   (On my development computer, the two serial devices use COM5 and COM6, whereas on the two production-flood computers, the COM ports will almost certainly be different).   I suppose I could use the Device Manager on the production-floor computers to change the COM ports to be the same as those on my development computer, but I’d prefer to be able to (again) change the default value of the COM ports in my .EXE.   However, I’m not sure how to do that.   The configuration VIs, have options for reading / writing Booleans, strings, paths, and numeric, but not, (so far as I can tell) for a VISA class.
    Any thoughts / suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply, Yamaeda,
    Great that I can use a string to open a VISA session - I had no idea.  I'll try that.
    And - ah - you are right about the .INI files.  I just did an experiment in which I re-ordered the sections and randomly changed which letters were capitalized in the key values, and the "read configuration settings.VI" still read the file correctly.  Thanks for that.
    Unfortunately, in my existing code, the controls on the block-diagram aren't all co-located together; they are scattered throughout the block diagram - some of them in case structures and loops.   I suppose that means I'll have to move them all to the left side of the block diagram, route them to these "Write Key.VIs" and then wire them up into the cases and loops with fairly long wires.   It's just a hassle, and is going to make my block diagram more complicated.  Well, I suppose that's how one learns...
    Thanks again.

    Assuming you have a state machine and an Init state it's a fair use of Local Variables to update controls from the ini-file. The same goes for saving the values.

  • How to save a value in a .txt n retrive back the exact value from the file?

    Well I have a number. Let's say 600. I need to save this value in a .txt file so that I can retrive this value. I tried using the below source code. It can be executed but I'll get num 49 everytime I execute it even though the value in my .txt is 600.
    try {
                   File inputFile = new File("Lt.txt");
                   File outputFile = new File("outagain.txt");
    FileReader in = new FileReader("Lt.txt");
    FileWriter out = new FileWriter(outputFile);
    int c;
              c = in.read();
              in.close();
    System.out.print("\nggggggggg"+c);
    in.close();
                   } catch (IOException ex) {
                   System.out.println("IOException:"+ex.toString());

    Thank you. I execute the program below. I can now retrive the data from the Lt.txt. But the value is limited to 3 digits. For example, the content of my file is 777888.
    When I run the program, I only get 777. How can I retrive the whole exact number?

  • DC noise values set from ini file

    Hello,
           I am trying to build a waveform generator with ( sine wave, triangle, saw tooth, square, DC,  random noise). I managed to get the waveform working using the NI waveform generator built in VI function. but I want to add the DC case which I manage to do. but I want the values (amplitude and frequency ) to be in an ini file. My idea is to manual set the values in the file, once I run the vi and select the DC noise case, it should read the file get the values and output the data and once I stop it, it saves the dc values before exiting.
         I am kind of stuck trying to figure how to do this. I hope I was clear enough. I don't have code to show since I havent started coding on that part yet. Please help.
    Solved!

    Clearly enough explained.
    Have a look at the configuration file VIs, found in File I/O > Config File VIs. There are also plenty of examples n the community, as well as in the Example Finder, which show how to use these. A good place to start is the Write Configuration Settings File example in the Example Finder, as well as Read Configuration Settings File.
    Your .ini file will look something like this, once created:
    [DC Noise Settings]
    Amplitude = 1.234567
    Frequency = 8.901234
    This is equivalent to:
    [Section Name]
    Key 1 = Value
    Key 2 = Value
    When asked to read a specific key from a certain section, the read VI scans through the file for the named section, then looks for they key name that you've provided it. Bear in mind you'll need to know what the data type is when you read back.
    You can use the write VI to modify specific keys in specific sections once you close the file.
    This is one of a multitude of methods you could use to do this, but is probably the simplest.

  • On my new Imac, I had the trial version of Pages, and saved some files in it. Now I have purchased the full version from Apple via a download, but I cannot save or print the old files, please help!

    On my new Imac I saved some files on the free trial version of Pages, since downloading the full version from Apple, have been unable to save or print from old files saved when using the trial version. Any ideas? Thank you!

    My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
    Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

    Hi Adrian,
    Why don't you try any another software for opening CSV files then Notepad ? According to my experience, you can use these softwares to open an CSV files and they are:-
    Microsoft Excel
    Open Office Calc
    Google Docs
    Also there is an additional tool available known as CSV viewer. You may try this, download it from here http://www.csvviewer.com/
    I've never used Notepad for opening CSV files, because sometimes it contains some symbols which are not not at all compatibile with Notepad.

    IMHO, it should work the way you describe. Do you
    actually save the DOM tree to file afterwards?Good point. No, actually.
    How do you save the document in that case ???
    Any suggestions...
    Thanks...
