Save report as pdf in the database

Hi all,
is it possible to save the generated pdf from reports10g in the database?
Regards

Here is what I was looking for:
re:How to get cookie information or http headers values inside Oracle reports
pr_example in the above forum was written under 8i. In 9i, they added the timeout which is set to a default of 60 seconds. Look at the UTL_HTTP package spec on more information on setting this timeout.
Plus, printing the BLOB is easier too. You can just use wpg_docload.download_file instead of using the while loop.
Anyway, that example shows you how to call a report from a stored procedure, store it in a blob, and even it print it back to the browser.

    Thank You for posting on the forums. This can happen if the preview of the document is opened in preview pane in Windows Explorer.
    Kindly switch off the preview pane and then try the same.

    You can't. If the file is made read-only via the file system, the user will prompted to save as a new file if they attempt to save.

    Hello Devster,
    Thank you to post your question on TechNet forum.
    After reviewing the whole post, I have a question to you. You can access the report via the link, http://myServer/Reports_DEVPROJECT/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fData+Mgmt%2fSample+Letter.
    From the URL, I can see that the report is located at: /Data Mgmt/Sample Letter, instead of /DataMgmt/Sample Letter. In addition, I found that the target report is "/DataMgmt/Sample HAP Letter" instead of "/DataMgmt/Sample Letter" as the error described. I
    am not sure whether you post out the correct code segment.
    Please check the above things on your side, and hope it is helpful to you.

  • How to show in a report a pdf blob from database

    Hi all
    We are working on report 6i and report 10. We have a report wich needs to show a blob field from database that storages a pdf (type application/pdf). OLE2 is deprecated. The pdf blob field must be displayed in a preview and must be printed. In local, it works. When it works on a browser, the pdf blob field is missing. If we load the field into a pdf file, the field is not visible in the browser.
    Do not get it to work. How I can implement? Could you give us any example for this?

    In local, it works. What do you mean by that exactly? You see the pdf in Reports Builder?
    If you just want to show the pdf in a browser (not embedded in a report) it is easy to use mod_plsql. You can have a simple db procedure like this to show any kind of blob:
    procedure show_webdoc(io_blob    in out nocopy blob
                         ,i_mimetype in varchar2
                         ,i_filename in varchar2)
    is
    begin
       if dbms_lob.getlength(io_blob) >0 then
          owa_util.mime_header(nvl(i_mimetype,'application/octet'),false);
          htp.p('Content-length: ' || dbms_lob.getlength(io_blob));
          htp.p('Content-Disposition:  inline; filename="'||i_filename|| '"');
          owa_util.http_header_close;
          wpg_docload.download_file(io_blob);
       end if;
    end show_webdoc;

  • Where is the value of report repository stored in the database?

    Hi all,
    One of our developers is trying to write a code that would send the output report (pdf)of a process through mail, typical work flow stuff.But the problem is that we are not supposed to hard code the value of report repositiry from where the report has to be picked.can anybody suggest a table in the database from where the value of report repository can be queried.
    we tried using
    select reportrepositorypt from pswebprofile.
    but this doesnt return the correct path. we went to PIA->peopletools->webprofile ->webprofie configuration
    here we updated the value in report repository field and saved it and queried again.
    But this didnt solve our problem.
    Its showing the previous value which is different from the actual report repository path.
    all the servers are in solaris box.
    please suggets.
    Thanks!

    Right now, I am trying to send a PDF (XML Publisher report) as an email to our vendors (it is their ACH Advice).
    What I have done so far is: Created an App Engine, one step to populate a state record with run control information and the second step that runs XML Publisher and creates PDF report(s) which are published to the Report Repository and saved to a file on our network. Now I think I just need to create a third step to recall the PDF(s) and send the PDF(s) out as emails to our vendors.
    I have found that the PDF information from Report Repository is stored in the Database in the CDM_LIST_VW record (this is a view and the main underlying table is CDM_LIST, but this contains what I need for now, so I'm going to try using it first). The Report ID is stored in the CONTENTID field and the Report Description (description shown on the Report Repository -- which in our case contains the email address) is stored in the CONTENT_DESCR field. So I am going to try over the next week to write the logic to query the CDM_LIST_VW for the data needed for the email address and the ReportID to go and grab the file....The hardest part is finding the actual file but I am hoping that I can also find a URL on that table. I'd pull the file from the network, but XML Publisher writes them out into numbered folders where all the PDFs are named the XML Report Defn - thus same name). I have not tried any of this yet, but am hoping I'm on the right path.
    I hope this helped answer your question.
    Good Luck!
    Jennifer

  • Reports doesn`t refresh the database info

    Hi, i've been crating reports using the Crystal Reports for eclipse and connecting it to a ORacle database.
    All works fine and when i export the project into a WAR file, the jsp files loads the reports fine. But theres a problem, if my database tables changes, the reports continue showing the same data.
    How can i set to the report to always read from the database and not to save the original data in the report???
    Thanks a lot.

    One way would be not to store data with the report by unticking "Save data with report" in the File menu in CR.
    Also make sure you're changing the datasource connection properly, as shown in the "jrc_change_database_connection" sample.

  • Exporting a mailing label report to PDF shifts the address off ...

    Hi.
    The report is created using the wizard "File->New->Mailing Label Report". Everything looks good at the preview. Following are the dimensions:
    - 4 X 1 inches
    - 2 labels across, 10 down
    - Paper would be 8-1/2 X 11 inches (Letter sized) (labeled) paper
    - 0.5 inches page margin on top and bottom
    - 0.156 inches left & right margins
    - Horizontally .188 inches between labels
    - Vertically NO space between labels
    For this, in the Crystal Reports Designer, I used Mailing Label Type = "Address (Avery 5261)".
    Issue
    However, when trying to export the report to PDF and when we print the report, addresses go off the labels (shifts up slightly starting from the begining). It looks like the font sizes, etc are not maintained. Therefore, visually, addresses shifts up gradually and does not fall into labels.
    Other specific details
    The first address was too low, I mean after .5 inches top margin, this first address started to appear .4 inches down the margin. If we measure from top of one address to the top of next one, it is about .9 inch and not 1 inch.
    Later I tried this [template|http://www.worldlabel.com/Pages/crystal-reports.htm] as well. I faced the same issue.
    Had anyone worked with mailing labels report faced similar issue?
    I appreciate your help

  • Save as Adobe PDF opens the wrong installation of AA

    Hi all,
    I bought an Adobe CC membership and after a month I found out that my apps were expiring. I accidentally set CC on Dutch (native language) but I ordered the English version. No problem, deinstalled all the apps and reinstalled them in the English version. Everything seems to work, almost.
    When I'm using MS word 2010 and I want to save my document as a PDF file (Save as Adobe PDF), it opens the dialog that I have zero days left and have to fill in my serial number, in Dutch!
    I can only cancel this screen, since I don't have the Dutch version of CC. If I try again I get the following error in Word.
    I deinstalled and reinstalled Adobe Acrobat XI now about 5 times, but it is still not working. How can I point PDFmaker to the right Acrobat?

    Hi Rave,
    Thanks for the link. I tried them out but still no luck. When I press Save to PDF it opens the English version of Acrobat and this Dutch activation screen, after that I only get the alert and the activation screen. So I can save one pdf document and then I've to reinstall Acrobat. It's activated, but only the English version, somewhere on my pc there is still some leftover from the Dutch version.

  • Viewing a PDF from the database

    Ok I am now finally down to the last thing that I need to get working on my program, at least for the time being. I am still doing research trying to find out how to do it but so far it has been unsuccessful, I am trying to make it so that the user can select a file on the database and then display that file in PDF form (the file is already in PDF) and then once it is displayed they can do whatever with it. I've already got the selecting the file taken care of now I'm just trying to figure out how to get the selected file to display on the screen.

    is there a way to download the file to a temp folder on the app server and then display it from thereIn order to write your file from the Database Server (DS) to the Application Server (AS) you will have either have the DS and AS be the same server or you will have a shared drive that is accessible from both servers. I personally like the use of shared drives. The reason for this is that the RDMBS can only read/write to the file system of the DS; conversly, the AS can only read/write to the file system of the AS. With a shared drive (Mount Point) the AS and DS can write to the same directory.
    So the question now is how to extract the file from the database to the filesystem. If you have access to My Oracle Support (MOS) look up *How to Write BLOBs Stored Inside the Database Out to Files [Doc ID: 330146.1]*. If you don't have access to MOS let me know and I'll post the code from this document. Basically you create a procedure that uses the DBMS_LOB package to read the file form your table in chunks and then writes these chunks of the file to the file system using the UTL_FILE package. When you write the file to the file system, you write it to the shared drive. The shared drive must be accessable by the AS processes on the AS. Then in your form you could server the file to the user with a simple WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT() call. The file will be delivered to the user via the Browser and the user will have the choice of saving or viewing the file. You will need to work with your DS and AS admins to set things up on your servers. I also recommend you built a process on the AS that will routinely delete the files in this shared drive to prevent accidently serving up an old copy of a file and to eliminate stale files on the shared drive.
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • How to save 150MB BLOB file in the database(SQL server)?

    Dear experts,
    I have written some code to save BLOB into a MS SQLserver7.0 database as follows:
    PreparedStatement ps=connection.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO jdbctest" + "(id, content, image) VALUES (?,?,?)");
    ps.setString(1,"2");
    ps.setString(2,"L11.avi");
    ps.setObject(3,data);
    It works for upto 12MB but for files that are as big as 150MB I always get an SQLException as follows,
    "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    <<no stack trace available>>" .
    The SQLserver7.0 database is running on NT server 4. The client machine is SGI UNIX. I'm using i-net JDBC driver.
    It seems I should break the BLOB into chunks before saving into SQLserver but I don't know how to do it.
    Can someone please advise?
    THANKS!
    Yu

    Could you tell me more about it? Thanks.Depends on the application.
    For example for internal use you can set up a shared drive and then everyone gets a mapped read only access to it. Then you use a direct drive reference.
    For external, or just wider internal distribution, you could set up a ftp server. Then the address is just an ftp address.
    I believe there are other variations which can be implemented via browsers and support by the websever. For example loading a word doc via the browser.
    The advantage to the above is that you don't have to push it into the database and it allows for some more flexible storage alternatives. The disadvantages are all the things you might want a database for - like concurrency checking and a single source.

  • Web Intelligence: Save Report as PDF and with embedded HTML code

    Hi all.
    Sorry but I'm not able to find any post about this matter, please feel free to provide links if you know existing topics about this problem.
    We created a beautiful report with HTML5 code embedded into a blank cell and we are now trying to export it in a printable format (e.g.: PDF or HTML).
    As you know (as per manual information) it is not possible to export a report with embedded HTML code and keeping it in the output (cell with embedded HTML code is rendered blank).
    My question is: is there a known workaround or an alternative solution to export the report and keep its content?
    Print screen is not a valid option :-P

  • How to upload files (.doc./.pdf) to the database?

    Hello,
    I know this question was raised several times before but the answers don't really make me happy.
    I have a table with a BLOB-column for the documents (different mime-types) and a varchar2(100)-column for the mime type.
    I edited the form in navigator an told the blob-field to store mime-information in the mime-type-field.
    Now, do i have to tell portal the mime-type or does it retrieve it itself?
    if i have to tell, how do i do so?
    How can i fill in the value for the mime-type-field with javascript, when the fieldname is something like abc.def.ghi?
    Javascript then will tell me that document.forms.fieldname is not an object.
    Wouldn't it be a good idea to write a howto on this subject (and other subjects too, of course)? I'll do the work if you share your knowledge with me.
    And, by the way, can you share your wisdom about retrieving the blobs from tha database for displaying and download, too?
    thank you very much,
    Ralf Schmitt

    Hi Ralf,
    see in the design time if you are
    1)Interested in only one type of content in the blob column then just mention that mime-type in the
    for eg.there will be text field "or type in fixed mime type" where you can mention the default type which you are interested in uploading.
    2)If you intent to upload files of diffrent type of mime-types then you will have to associate a column for storing the mime types for that file and for this there will be a text field.
    for eg. you will have options for "Select a column to store mime information" which will be having list of all the remaining fields in the LOV , you select which field of the table you wish to make for storing mime-type and do not set any default mime-type in the text "or type in fixed mime type" in this case.
    more explaination:
    =================
    for this case create a table like this :
    create table for_blob(id number(4),file_name blob,mime_type_of_file varchar2(400));
    when you select file_name field while designing the form you will have following option.
    "Select a column to store mime information" ---> select mime_type_of_file
    "or type in fixed mime type" ---> delete the content of this text field.
    Now when you will actually run the form you have to insert mime-types in the text "mime_type_of_file " for eg
    for PDF files: Application/pdf
    for msword :Application/msword
    for the first case just input the mime-type which you wish to upload.
    "or type in fixed mime type" ---> delete the content of this text field say for eg for PDF files:Application/pdf
    so that at run time you do not have to input any mime-type info and in this case even the field need not have the column for the mime-type.
    hope this help.
