'save to web' - 'program error'

I have just installed PSE10.
When I try the 'save to web' command it fails with a 'program error'.
How can I get past this hurdle please?

Sorry I don’t have any more ideas. You might want to go to support and start a case. You should normally receive an email response within 24 hours.

  • Export PDF as JPEG fails with Adobe Save for Web AI Error

    Hello,
    We have an Illustrator Javascript program to convert a PDF file to a JPEG.  It does some adjustments along the way, but I have boiled the script down so it just opens the PDF file, then uses the export method to export it to a JPEG file.  The problem is the JPEG conversion is failing.  When I run with user interaction layer set to DONTDISPLAYALERTS, as I normally do, it silently fails and continues; I do not get an exception, and the export method does not have another way to return an error.  When I do display alerts, I get a dialog box saying:
    Adobe Save for Web AI Error
    Could not complete this operation. An unknown error has occurred.
    It looks like this:
    What's weird is if I open the same PDF file in Illustrator and select File / Export it works fine.  I do get this error though if I select File / Save for Web & Devices.  I'm not sure why the export method would do a Save for Web though.
    The code looks basically like this:
    // Set filename, docName, destFolder
    file = new File(filename);
    sourceDoc = app.open(file);
    var fileSpec = new File( destFolder + "/" + docName +"_LARGE");
    var exportOptions = new ExportOptionsJPEG();
    var type = ExportType.JPEG;
    app.activeDocument.exportFile( fileSpec, type );
    For testing purposes, I have shortened the code so it is that, with the variable setting code above.
    Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    ------Scott.

    I have not tested exporting without passing any options. You have however created a variable to an empty options object but not passed it.
    did you also try…
    app.activeDocument.exportFile( fileSpec, type, exportOptions );

  • Adobe Save for Web AI Error

    Hello everyone,
    in our company, we wrote an program to export *.ai files as *.jpg files automatically. Means it saves a copy via the Illustrator SDK (CS5).
    Now, we got a problem with some files: While exporting, there appears an error message called "Adobe Save for Web AI Error" and, obviously, it stops the export.
    I don't use an function called "Save for Web" and other people don't have the problem with our program.
    Does anyone know why this message box is shown although we don't use this function?
    Thank you in advance!
    Regards from Germany
    Fabian Bauer

    All I can think of is that you're using some of the APIs that are associated with the "Save for Web" functionality and someone at Adobe put in a crappy error message (probably one they assumed would never been seen outside of "Save for Web"!).
    Do you know what line of code is throwing the error?

  • CS5 Photoshop - Adobe Save for Web & Devices Error

    Hi folks,
    I know similar threads exists, but this one is different. For some reason, out of the blue, I can't use 'Save for Web' anymore. When I choose 'save for web', it opens the preview dialog nicely, up until I save & get this error:
    "Adobe Save for Web & Devices Error
    Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred."
    Cleared all my settings, and the error remains.
    I uninstalled PS CS5, installed it again... still get this error.
    Hope someone knows how to fix it!
    Tx!
    MacBookPro3,1, running all the latest updates (OSX 10.6.4), CS5 Master Collection.
    Luckily still have CS4 Master Collection installed (and Flash CS3).
    (I've just got to get this off my chest, CS5 has so much issues that I stopped using it, I'm not getting paid for playing crashtestdummie. Please don't rush any future CS collections and try fixing bugs instead. )

    Hi Wade,
    Tx, but 99% of my time, I work on my local system (scratch disk also). Already had problems working with the company's network (files get locked or corrupted while trying to save), so we've learned the hard way not to use the network.
    I guess that's somewhat expected if you work with a Mac, in a professional Windows environment.
    Meanwhile, I'm a step closer in finding a solution myself. A colleague gave me a great tip, if you create an extra user account on the system, you start with a clean library. On my second account, PS CS5 is working just fine. So clearly, something went wrong in my library. Maybe permissions like you've said. At this point, I could try to fix it by copying files from the one user to the other. But I would like to wait for that connect session so they can see what's wrong.

  • PSE6: Adobe Save For Web PSE Error

    I upgraded from XP to Vista the other day and now when attempting to use the Save For Web feature, PSE crashes and gives me this error.
    Adobe Save For Web PSE Error
    Could not complete this operation. An unknown error has occurred.
    I uninstalled PSE completely and then reinstalled, but I still receive the same error. After it crashes, I have to open Task Manager just to end the process.

    Some people have reported a file-permissions problem with Save For Web.  Try running PSE as administrator (which on Vista is different than running in an administrator account).  Right-click the PSE icon on your desktop or in the Start menu and select Run As Administrator.
    Unfortunately, there is a long list of possible causes of your crashes, so if that doesn't work, try these troubleshooting steps:

    To help others, please let us know if any of these solve your problem.

  • Can't save because of program error

    I had this problem a year ago, then I started using the computers at school, and forgot how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Here's the problem
    I used Lightroom to make some edits, including the masking brush. When I opened in photoshop, finished editing and tried to save, It gave me the dreded, "Can not save because of program error"
    I used to be able to fix this by going into some setting and deleting part of something. But for the life of me, I can't remember what or where. Is there anyone familiar with this that can help?

    First thing to try is resetting the preferences by holding down
    the Shft+Alt+Ctrl keys (windows) Cmd-Shift-Option  (mac)
    as you start the pse 8 editor and then click yes in dialog.
    Some more information might help such as which OS (windows or mac)
    and how much ram you have and if this has worked before or never worked and
    the format your trying to save your files in.

  • Version 2014.1.0 - save for web returns error: the system cannot find the path specified. Help?

    I'm on PC (yah, yah, I know)
    When I click "save for web" I get the following error:
    The operation could not be completed.

    I thought I could repair Photoshop, but the 2014 version doesn't seem to have that option in the control panel's Programs and Features - only uninstall. The Cloud doesn't seem to have a "reinstall" option that I can see.I'd hate to have to redownload the whole thing and start over, but I suppose I may have to.

  • Save for Web causes error in PSE7

    Hi, When I click on Save for Web I get the error message shown below. I have PSE7 and windows 7. I've tried the usual things like deleting the settings file. I have also re-installed the application, however I used the control panel uninstall and then just reinstalled, should I have deleted left over folders etc and may be registry entries. I have also tried the compatibility options in windows 7. No luck!
    Has anyone come across this before, any advice would be well received.
    Thanks

    Please try allocation more RAM and disk space to PSE. Might be some issue with the same. This kb article should help you there http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/856/cpsid_85658.html
    Not sure but try with admin user also if logged in user on your machine is not admin.
    Also try deleting the preferences file for Save for Web and relaunch PSE C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Save For Web PSE

  • Photoshop save for web unknown error

    Hi,
    I am trying to save my .avi file to animated gif using photoshop save for web option, but i am getting a unknown save for web error. The .avi file is around 1.5 gb. tried to save the file with Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC 2014. My os is Windows 8.1 and i have 8 gb of RAM.
    Other details:
    Document size : 1800x1200
    .avi Frame rate: 50 fps
    Please help me

    What are the pixel dimensions and the length of the spot?
    Can you break up the clip into smaller elements?
    I suspect you may be trying to use a file format that is not a good fit for the task.
    Why do you want to use gif?

  • Unable to save PDF's: 'Program Error'

    I have to save a file as a PDF with the [PDF/X-4:2008] preset, for offset printing, but i keep getting "Could not save as “filename.pdf” because of a program error."...
    it will save under the "high quality print" preset, and other formats, but not this preset.  i thought it may have been a corrupted layer or something because it was created from a downloaded template from the printing company, but i get the same error message when trying to save other simple files as a PDF....
    i'm running CS5.1 on OSX 10.9.2...
    I'm feeling a little jammed up, not sure how to proceed...
    any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you

    well, it looks like i figured it out, and i'll share the solution for anyone that is looking for the same thing.  all i did was reset the preferences by re starting photoshop while holding down Command, Option, Shift.  a prompt comes up and asks you if you want to delete preferences, say yes.  it worked!

  • Another save for web devices error - File already exists?

    I've been using the same Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7 for about a year now, and only now this problem occurs to me.
    Whenever I try to preview gifs in any browser (tried a few), I get the error message "Could not complete this operation. A file by this name already exists."
    Tried renaming the files, replacing them, creating new ones, tried to enter preview on old files that previously worked, but always get the same error message.
    I did some research and tried deleting both the main Save for Web and Devices pref file, and the other so called "hidden one" in the plugins folder. I've tried reinstalling photoshop from scratch. Nothing works.
    Please help me. I'm near desperate :/

    Ah, sorry, now I see what you're doing.
    I haven't had the issue myself, but I can guess that one or more of the temporary files it needs to create in order to show them in your browser must be failing in creation.  Check the permissions on the folder identified by your TEMP environment variable - you should have Full Control of your TEMP area..
    Specifically, it creates a "Save for Web" subfolder there.  You might be able to delete that entirely in order to start afresh.
    Just to test, I've opened Photoshop CS4, entered Save for Web & Devices, and pressed the Preview button myself and it worked okay here...  Your TEMP area is likely different than mine.

  • CS3 Save As .Jpeg Program Error

    When attempting to save an RGB or CMYK file larger than 100M as a jpeg, an error message appears stating "Could not save a copy as C:(file name) because of a program error". Two questions:
    1. Will resetting my prefences affect this error? If I try resetting my preferences, will my custom color swatches and patterns be erased?
    2. Is there a known solution to this error?
    Thanks...

    >It's apparently too much to ask Photoshop to be aware of its
    >limitations and either provide a warning beforehand or simply gray out
    >a save as option that won't work.
    No, not really. The failure here is that PS simply assumes it has always enough RAM/ memory under any conditions and then it runs out because obviously for a 32bit app the ceiling is and will forever be 4GB (if run on a 64bit host OS like XP64). it is also further complicated by the fact that you never know how much more RAM you need until you actually have built the block pyramids for compression. Theoretically you could still have enough juice even with large images if only there pixels are distributed in such a way that they generate an "ideal" block pattern. So there you go. I guess this once more illustrates that such optimization and analysis features should be a native core function rather than plugged on in the loaders/ savers...

  • How can I save to web without getting error messages and having my computer tell me there is no memory or freezing up and shutting down? I've read many other suggestions but have tried those things and none have worked. I have photoshop 12.

    Photoshop: Selecting Save for Web gives error: "Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred."
    I have tried all of the solutions I've found, but none work for me or my two systems (windows 7 and windows 8.1)
    Many times I get the message only when saving a web file that there is not enough memory: My windows 8 has 2 TB and 10 Gigs of ram. I took it into the shop to see if something was wrong with the hard drive or ram, but when I hooked up my windows 7, I'm having the exact same issues. Please help.
    I tried this:
    I set ram to 100%, I changed my preferences in editor to not run anything to do with auto analyzer, I renamed the file auto analyzer to put a space in as someone said to do... I even did the following...
    Reset Photoshop's Save For Web preferences:
    1. Quit Photoshop
    2. Delete the "Adobe Save For Web 12.0 Prefs" file:
    Mac: Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Save For Web 12.0 Prefs
    Windows XP: Documents and Settings/[Username]/Application Data/Adobe/Save For Web/12.0/Adobe Save For Web 12.0 Prefs
    Windows 7 and Vista: Users/[Username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Save For Web/12.0/Adobe Save For Web 12.0 Prefs
    Whenever I "save for web" and save something to the root of C:/ it will work, but the next time I "save for web" it produces the error. I was able to fix it by going into User Account Control settings and scaling down to "never notify." It requires a reboot, but the next time I "saved for web" it worked fine.
    If you do this, be sure to change the UAC back to "default" as it is a security measure.
    FYI you will have to restart anytime you tweak UAC.
    To change UAC in Win 7 go to control panel>Action Center>Change User Account Control Settings and drag the slider to "never notify."

    Try this: press F10 or tap the Alt key to display the menu bar temporarily, then
    View > Toolbars > Menu Bar
    If that doesn't work, you could reset your toolbars to factory default using Firefox's Safe Mode. First, make a backup of your computer for safekeeping. To back up Firefox, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information].
    Next, start Firefox in Firefox
    [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode], and check only the box to reset toolbars. Be careful not to "reset" anything else if you didn't back up.
    Hope this helps.

  • Not enough Ram memory and cannot save due to a program error in photoshop cs6

    Hi, I'm currently a beginner at photoshop cs6, and I've been using it since december last year, mostly to draw stuff and it has worked fine with few to no errors at all.
    However, recently when I've been drawing, the same message keeps popping up over and over again "Can't use (tool) due to the computer not having enough ram" followed by either "cannot save due to program error" or, it just simply crashes.
    This is obviously a something that worries me A LOT since at first, I thought that it was just a small error, but recently, it's been like this for several day s and I've been forced to re-start the computer (and photoshop) countless times... It really slows down my working progress and is VERY annoying to deal with.
    As a beginner though, I don't really know how to fix this. I've been trying to look up some answers on this site, but I've just not found any answer yet...
    I'm currently using photoshop cs6 that's up to date and I've got lots of memory left on my computer, so, I'm wondering. What exactly is the cause of this problem, and how can I fix it? Please answer as fast as you can.. I'm getting a bit desperate...
    Oh, in case you're wondering, they're all saved as PSD files and every single one of them has about 15+ layers on them.

    It would help if you could list a few things:
    1. Your operating system
    2. How much physical RAM do you actually have in your machine?
    3. Under Preferences > Performance, have you allocated "Scratch Disk(s)"?
    4. Also under Preferences > Performance > Memory Usage, what is the "Ideal Range" listed there, and what % is "Let Photoshop Use"?
