Saving a copied .rpt file erases the .cs file

I have an .rpt file with a datasource set to a stored procedure and it works great. I made a duplicate of the .rpt file and I'm wanting to change the datasource but when I do this and save the .rpt file, the attached .cs file goes blank. Why would the .cs file lose the link it has with the .rpt file by removing the datasource and how can I prevent this from happening? I need another copy of my rpt file but I'd hate to have to make it from the ground up.

Since you don't like to add any details install the full version of SP 3 and try again.

  • Export/Copy .rpt files from Production environment

    I'm new to Crystal Reports. I'm using Crystal Reports 10. I urgently need your help with the following:
    We inherited 140 reports from another department. The version control was not done well in that department. Now we canu2019t trust the versions on Visual Source Safe.
    We decide to pull, or export, the .rpt files from Production environment and put them in VSS.
    I understand that I can go to the CE Management Console, open each report, preview and save them in .rpt format. But I have to change the name later from a default name and save the .rpt without data. We have 140 reports. It would be very time consuming, and big risk of mistakes.
    The way we publish a report is: open the u2018Balance.rptu2019 from a local project folder, save as, click Enterprise button, and sign on the CE. From there I can see folders on Console to save the report.
    My question is: Where I can find these .rpt files in Production environment? How can I save/export all the reports together to my folder u2013 not one by one? If there is a tool to do it?
    For the example above, anybody knows where this u2018Balance.rptu2019 is saved? Once the report is published, the name seems changed in file strorage.
    Thank you very much for your help.

  • How do I get Printer Name saved in a .rpt?

    I want to know how to get the name of the printer saved in a .rpt file. Unfortunately PrintOptions.PrinterName [1] property returns an empty string if the printer isn't configured locally. How do I get the printer name (or some sort of printer identifier) without the printer being configured locally yet?
    current code:
    reportDocument.ReportClientDocument.PrintOutputController.GetPrintOptions().PrinterName

    Cameron

    Hi Cameron,
    I spent a bunch of time getting all of the options and discovered until the reports are saved with the current version, I'm on SP 3, getting the printer name doesn't work but there are variations.
    If the No Printer option is checked then CR users the default printer to get a few options. Problem is there is no API to get the No Printer checked box....
    If Dissociate.. is/was checked on at any time CR may also not get the printer it was designed against.
    As you may have seen we have updated the Printer options in CR 2008 to make them work as close as we can as they did in CR XI R2 and previous versions. There are still outstanding issues but usually ways to work around them.
    Unfortunately until you update the reports to current version I have not been able to get the name if No Printer is not checked on. If it is we use the Default printer Margins, depending on the patch level you are on.
    Still testing and will have to discuss with various resources to get more info.
    Thank you

  • When saving .tif or .eps files, it usually erases the last 2, 3 or 4 letters, why? ("as copy" issue)

    hi again
    this is a question i wanted to ask the last couple of years:
    it doesnt depend on CS5 or CS4, i guess nearly all newer versions
    of photoshop erase some letters at the end of a filename, when saving as tif or eps, and the file was a photoshop .psd layer file before.
    i am working with many masks, so when i finish a psd layer file and want to save it as tiff (without layers and path) for sending out to client,
    i press "apple+alt+S" and the "save as" window checks "copy" as default, of course, i want to preserve the original filename without "..copy"
    so i uncheck "save as copy", and then there are some letters missing, i have to manually replace the letters by the original ones.
    thats very awkward and time consumptive, is there a better workaround, you could suggest?
    is this my fault, maybe wrong workflow? what could i change, in order to avoid photoshop erasing letters in filenames, when saving?
    what could i do, that "save as copy" wont appear anymore? i am always saving in another folder than the layer file folder,
    but i can only select the folder after photoshop has checked "save as copy" by itself very quick, as it thinks i want to save the tiff file
    into the .psd layer file folder...
    i am usually manually editing the filename in the finder later,
    as it has been very important for myself to stay with the original filename
    as clients use the images in indesign, so it can auto-update, if the filename is the same as before.
    thanks for any help!

    thanks for your answer!
    i am dealing with this problem within 1 or 2 years now, i guess.
    photoshop always shortens my original filename, when i press "save as"
    i am experiencing this problem on 3 macs, on different locations
    (in my homeoffice and at another office i work freelance) (very different macs and photoshop versions (from CS3 to CS5)
    like:
    original filename "vitra_woodenchair_hires_cmyk_original.psd" will be shortened to "vitra_woodenc copy.TIF"
    i have to edit the files after that manually in the finder, as i send it back to clients, and they need their original filenames.
    i also wonder why photoshop cs5 always wants to save a copy -
    i never needed a copy of a file in my life, so why "save as copy" please?
    i guess my problem is depending more or less only on the "save as copy" thing,
    as it looks like, that the letters "copy" are erasing the end of my filename.
    is there anything i can do, that photoshop wont suggest me a "save as copy" ever again?
    can i switch it off?
    your suggestion of scripts is nice, i doubt, i am able to install a script at different macs, i never ve been dealing with
    scripts before, it seems to be too complicate or it just sounds complicate to me, as i dont have specific
    file save destinations, i save at different places on different mac servers in the mentioned offices. also i save
    different kind of file types, sometimes psd, tiff, eps, jpg, png and all others...
    i try deleting .plist now and report back
    thanks meanwhile...

    After I keep the AI file open, making some modifications which I don't want to save, so I close the file and click "Don't Save".
    Even though I clicked that, the file's modification time is changing.

    Please find the cause of it! Thank you!

    All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

    Ron,
    I too need to make "Real Copies" of images and hate doing anything directly from the OS because of the chance that my LR catalog gets out of Sync with the actual images on the computer.  So I make the copies inside LR with an export routine and then move the copies inside of LR with the normal drag and drop.  Once the export preset is created it can be executed from the Library Grid by right-clicking on the image (or selected images) to make the copies.  My settings are as follows in case you are interested:
    This is the first time I have posted an image before and I am not sure if you will be able to read it or not.  The contents from the export preset in the image above are as follows if that helps:

    My wife and I share a computer for our itunes accounts. How can we copy our music libraries to each others accounts without erasing the original library? We want to merge our songs.

    If the music is on the same computer, import the songs to your iTunes library by dragging them into iTunes or choosing File > Add to Library (Mac) or File > Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library (Windows).  If the music is on different computers you can set up Home Sharing to copy the music from one library to the other (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620).

    I am new with iMac and I am trying to copy some file from my external HDD that a used with my PC but it does not let me also I can't delete anything from this HDD using the finder. Can somebody help me , please?

    No, unfortunately, when you format a drive, it will erase all the contents. So you will need to find a temporary "storage" place to put the stuff using a PC so you have access to it. Then reformat using Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities). If only using with mac, format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and use GUID Partition scheme under Partitions/Options. After formatting, you can drag the files back.

  • Can I edit the rpt file & change the datasource before loading the report?

    We are an ISV and our application has a lot of reports.  Our reports use a SQL Server database as the data source and each SQL Server at our customer sites has a different name.
    In our testing we have determined that ReportDocument.Load tries to connect to the SQL Server that is saved in the RPT.  If it can't fine the SQL Server saved in the RPT the load take about 60 seconds while it is waiting for the SQL Server Connection to time out.
    We are using the Visual Studio 2008 version of Crystal Reports.  This did not seem to be a problem with VB6/CR8.5.
    We would like to edit the RPT and change the data source to the appropriate SQL Server before we call ReportDocument.Load.
    Is it possible to edit the rpt file and change the data source before loading the report?
    Or is there some way to tell Crystal not to try connecting to the DB
    during the report.load?
    In our case we will NEVER use the data source that is saved in the RPT, we will always change the data source using ApplyLogOnInfo.
    Thanks

    HI Todd,
    You Can Not edit the report document before ReportDocument.Load() because if you dont load the report then you dont have anything to Edit
    But as far as changing the datasource is concerned you can change that at runtime.
    For changing the datasource following code will help you if both databases have a same schema :
    Code for changing the database
    ConnectionInfo crConnectionInfo = new ConnectionInfo();
    crConnectionInfo.ServerName = "SERVER";
    crConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "DATABASE";
    crConnectionInfo.UserID = "USERID";
    crConnectionInfo.Password = "PASSWORD";
    // Loop through the ReportObjects in a report and find all the subreports
    foreach(ReportObject crReportObject in crReportDocument.ReportDefinition.ReportObjects)
         // Check the kind of the ReportObject, if it is a subreport
         // proceed. If not skip.
         if(crReportObject.Kind == ReportObjectKind.SubreportObject)
              // Get the SubReport in the form of a ReportDocument
              string sSubreportName = ((SubreportObject)crReportObject).SubreportName;
              ReportDocument crSubReportDocument = crReportDocument.OpenSubreport(sSubreportName);
              // Use a loop to go through all the tables in the main report
              foreach(Table crTable in crSubReportDocument.Database.Tables)
    // Get the TableLogOnInfo from the Table and then set the new
    // ConnectionInfo values.
    TableLogOnInfo crLogOnInfo = crTable.LogOnInfo;
    crLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo;
    // Apply the TableLogOnInfo
    crTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crLogOnInfo);
    // Set the location of the database. This value will vary from database to
    // database.
    crTable.Location = "DATABASE.OWNER.TABLENAME" or crTable.Locations;
    The sample for doing this is available on support site.
    Thanks,
    Prasad

  • How do I erase the "other" files that are occupying my computer

    I already deleted pics, music, etc and I am ready to continue to delete unnecessary files. How should I erase the "other" files that are in my computer. Please, advice. Thanks

    For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
    Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
    Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
    According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
    See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
    You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
    Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
    Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
    ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
    If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
    Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
    Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
    The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
    I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
    When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Cannot save as PDF - "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use..."

    I have a number of PSD files I've created and I'm trying to save them as PDFs.
    I can Save for Web and Devices, I can save as a .gif, .eps., and every other format I've tested, but I cannot save as a PDF. I get the error:
    "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
    I'm running Adobe Master Collection CS5 with Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.0.4 x64) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
    I have a 928 GB HD with 697 GB free.
    I have rebooted and tried saving the files immediately after I reboot. I have killed my virus scanner. I have killed a number of other possible culprits including Acrotray.exe and CS5ServiceManager.ext
    I have run Process Explorer as recommended by Microsoft and found no applications using the file. I've also tried saving the file to my external hard drive and/or renaming the file with only rare luck.
    Nothing seems to fix it.
    The boards seem to suggest Adobe isn't taking responsibility for this and pointing it back to the OS or other software. I'm willing to believe them if someone can show me how/where to kill whatever process it is - but at this point, all my indicators point back to Photoshop.

    Here is a clip from a past post where user could not drag and drop files to hard drive.
    To my great relief I have now sorted this issue and offer the following as the Correct Answer. My sincere and grateful thanks go to Curt and Yammer, above, who have helped me so much in sorting this Windows 7 issue which is clearly very relevant to Bridge users also. Any slowness to grasp what they have been saying is down to me!
    The key to solving this issue lies is understanding that in terms of Windows 7 Security, every internal or external hard drive, plus folders, sub-folders and files thereon has an OWNER. Also each OWNER has a certain level of PERMISSION to do things such as moving files to a different folder, deleting or re-naming them etc. If you try to do things that you don't currently have Permission to do, that is when you get an ‘Access Denied’ error message. Also your system has an Admistrator or Administrators and at the outset you need to ensure through the Control Panel that you are listed as one of them. .
    If, like me, you didn't realise these things, (and why would you if Microsoft or your computer or hard drive suppliers couldn't be bothered to really make sure you knew about them), then trying to fathom the ‘Access Denied’ problem becomes a stressful and frustrating nightmare as I can testify having spent a week at it!
    The steps that I took to resolve the issue and which I believe now constitute the 'Correct Answer' are as follows:
    First make sure that you have Administrator rights on your system via the Control Panel
    Next ‘right click’ on the Drive whose files you want to gain full access to, for example the drive that your pictures are stored on, and click on 'Properties'.
    Under the Security tab you will see a list of Groups and Users on this drive and the Permissions that they have to do things.
    Before doing anything to edit these Permissions, first click on the Advanced button. This opens another window with a tab showing the Owner of this drive.
    Click on the Owner tab and if you are not already listed as the owner, make yourself the owner by selecting your name from the list. I believe it should appear there if you are an admistrator or user. (In my case at this stage the owner was initially shown as an obscure string of numbers and letters which I believe identified the drive when it was connected to the lap top I was using before I upgraded my machine)
    Now be sure to check the box that says "Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects" and the click Apply. On completion of this step, the drive in question and all the folders, subfolders and files thereon should now be 'owned' by you. You could check this out by right clicking on a particular folder then clicking Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner. Your name should appear. So far so simples!
    Now go back to the Security Tab for your drive (Step 2 / 3 above) and look at the Permissions you currently have. Your aim now is to allow yourself 'Full Control.' If you don’t currently have this level of permission click Edit, select your name on the list, check ‘Full Control’ and 'Apply' the change.
    I think I'm right in saying that at this point whilst still working in the Drive directory you are now given the option of ticking boxes which allow you to, in effect, cascade the permission you have just granted yourself to all the files and folders on that drive. Tick the box to allow this and Windows should then take care of the rest.If I'm not quite correct here then in my particular case, for example, all my images were stored on my external drive. The top level, or 'parent' folder in which all my pictures could be found was the 'My Pictures' folder and I had created a number of folders and subfolders ('child ' folders) within that folder. The permissions I gave to the Parent folder – My Pictures – were cascaded down through the Child folders.
    On completion of the above step I tested the result in Windows Explorer by dragging a few files back and forth between folders and it now worked perfectly - I was now able to move / delete / rename etc all files without now getting the dreaded access denied message. What a sense of relief! This meant that I could now open Bridge normally rather than having to right click it and 'Run As Admistrator' - albeit that is a very useful thing to do until you get the problem sorted as described.

  • Receiving "The Itunes Library file cannot be saved. A duplicate file name was specified".

    Itunes Version 10.5.3.3
    Using Iphone 4 on Windows 7 Proffesional PC.
    Keep getting "The Itunes Library file cannot be saved. A duplicate file name was specified" when trying to sync Itunes with Iphone.
    Have tried the following steps;
    first you have to locate your last library file, you can do this by clicking Edit-preferences-advanced. it will show you the itunes media folder location. then close Itunes
    open your folder and locate the last library (libraries are saved with date names, find the most recent one or the one that was last modified).
    change the name of the library to today´s date following the format it already has. you will have to change the name for libraries: .itl, .xml, genius and extras.
    once you have changed the name to today´s date on the 4 libraries you will have to delete all other libraries existing on the same folder or on a folder named "previous itunes libraries". it is also recommended to delete the itunes "preferences file" .dat (usually 1kb) and the "sentinel" file.
    so, you will have on your itunes media folder only 4 libraries: .itl .xml genius and extras.
    the next step is to click the itunes icon holding the "shift" key . itunes will ask you to either "quit, choose library or create library" click on choose library. then locate the library you just renamed with today´s date and extension .itl
    done, itunes will open with the last saved version of your library. keep in mind that some changes or songs will not be present if you added any while getting the error "itunes cannot save the library file. a duplicate name has been specified" just locate the songs and add them again, if you have the option "copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library" checked. then go to file-add folder or file-and locate the songs missing on the itunes media folder.itunes saves the files on the hard drive but does not save the changes on the library.
    No luck.
    Any help would be greatly appriciated.

    I found the solution:
    first you have to locate your last library file, you can do this by clicking Edit-preferences-advanced. it will show you the itunes media folder location. then close Itunes
    open your folder and locate the last library (libraries are saved with date names, find the most recent one or the one that was last modified).

    hope this is clear enough.

  • MacBook Pro-'the disk copy of "file name" was changed...'

    My MacBook Pro has been running very slowly. Occasionally, the message 'The disk copy of "file name" was changed since you last opened of saved it. Do you want to save it anyway?" when attempting to save photoshop files. It also tells me my start up drive is nearly full but it is not. I'm guessing the these are related. Anyone else experiencing this?

    I also just started experiencing this.
    Quick Specs:
    MBP 8GB 2.3Ghz 1.7 (Early 2011)
    256 SSD
    OSX Lion 10.7.2
    I have seen this with Photoshop, Flash, and Dreamweaver CS 5, and Eclipse.
    I am growing concerned that this is either the SSD starting to fail or possibly the new Spotlight index algorithm.
    Would really like to see if anyone has a fix.

  • Erasing the system files from a previous Windows 7 Home Premium Version.

    HP assistant says I have "a copy of an older version of Windows is using significant hard drive space...."
    It then suggests I can easily erase the "Windows.old" files with the disc cleanup utility. Not only does the cleanup utility not finde such files, the search bar can locate no such files. Do I just blow it off and "post pone the warning" or is there a solution to shut this warning off by doing something else? Thanks for your help.

    Hi:
    In order to delete the Windows.old folder (make sure you got any files you wanted from it first if you need to), launch the disk cleanup utility and then hit the Clean up System Files button on the lower left.
    It will examine your drive and then show the windows.old folder in the window of the files that can be deleted.
    Check all the boxes you want to have the files deleted, and then it should be gone once disk cleanup does its thing.
