Saving Artboards as gif files (CS4)

Hello.
I juste finished a script for me to use with AI CS4.
As i didn't find it from the export menu or the save for the web and devices, i proposed it as a script. I know it's not well written cause i'm new to this, so if anyone wants to look at it, i just put it there at the photoshop sdk section (since i needed more stuff i didn't find)
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1899748#1899748
Thanx for watching.

Nevermind, it's in the second pane of the options.

  • Is it possible and how to open animated gif files in Photoshop CS4

    I made a Google search and I found tips that Photoshop can open frames from animated gif files by using File->Import->Video Frames to Layers. But this menu is missing from Photoshop CS4 on the computer I'm using it. Searching this forum for "Import animated gif" didn't return any result. Any ideas?

    curt y, sorry for the late reply, I tried that but I doesn't work. I have to choose at least two files in the Load Layers window in order for the OK button to be available and then some action script uses the different files to make layers and merges them but not from the frames of the gif file. I can undo through the script to see what it did but it never accessed the frames of the gif file, just the first frame. Choosing "make frames from layers" in the animation palette only puts the original files into layers - that is only the first frame of the gif file.
    I guess I'm out of luck with the 64  bit version of Photoshop as Zeno suggested :-(
    What program would you people suggest for opening each frame from gif files?

  • How to get a gif file to loop in PE11 with MAC 10.6.8? 480x320x72 pix/in. saved layers for web, check animate,preview plays fine but saved file doesnt

    can't figure out why the gif file won't loop. Set up 5 photo frames 480x320pixels x 72pix/in in PE11, creating a layer for each. Each layer visible. Saved for web. Checked animate. The preview plays fine. But when I save the file and then click on the saved file to play, it re-opens the layers instead of playing the loop. The only SAVE option that shows up is "IMAGES ONLY"
    Using photoshop elements 11 on MAC 10.6.8. Either I'm setting this up wrong or is there a hidden setting I need to change?

    Thanks for the thought, Barbara B. Not sure if this counts, but emailed the file to myself [different email account, same computer] but it would not play as an email attachment. Any suggestions for a web upload where I can test your suggestion? Seems like there should be a different save option other than IMAGES ONLY but that is the only option I'm given.

  • Problem saving gif file over the net

    I am using a simple loop to save files using a URL Connection. It grabs html files fine and they look right but when I used to to download an animated gif it had an error. It saved the file but when I tried to open the image I got a "drawing failed" message.
    I compared it to the working image and the sizes were identical. I also compared the characters in notepad and the beginning and end characters were identical. I looked at the preview in "My Computer" when you select it and it drew only the first line or so. This makes me believe it is a problem with how it switches lines when saving. I checked the ends of the lines though and they also seem identicall. Any ideas? Here is the code. Thankyou.
    FileWriter fileName = new FileWriter(saveFileName);
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(
    new InputStreamReader(
    newConnection.getInputStream()
    BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(fileName);
    for (;;) {
    int data = in.read();
    // Check for EOF
    if (data == -1) break;
    else {
    System.out.print ( (char) data);
    out.write(data);
    }

    GIF files are binary files and can be corrupted if you use the Reader and Writer classes. Use the *Stream classes, like FileInputStream and FileOutputStream.

  • CS4 - Getting error when opening a .gif file - file-format module cannot parse the file.

    I am getting this popup error when trying to open a .gif file:
    "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
    This comes up every time I try to open a .gif file.  Even if I make a .gif file (like the image included in this post), save it and then try to open it again, I get the same error.  I tried reinstalling CS4, but the error is still there.  I have also done the reset on start-up and nothing.  Some have suggested that I open it in (Windows XP Pro) MS Paint and then save it again.  Did it and this does NOT work for me, either.
    I know it's a Photoshop problem because I can see this file everywhere, except Photoshop.  It will open here, there and everywhere, except for Photoshop.
    I've searched the Adobe Commmunity and it looks like no one has come up with a fix for this.  I'm just currious after 5 years with this problem, has there been a solution?
    Scott

    One of the files that has the error is in my first post.

  • Animated .gif files in Captivate - why doesn't it work?

    OS:                         XP
    Captivate Version:      3
    I was e-mailed an animated .gif that I want to use in a project I'm working on.
    I saved the .gif to a drive.  I then clicked Insert - Animation and selected it.  I received a message stating This is not an animated GIF file or file in use.  If I click Insert - Image, it brings in the image but the file is not animated.
    Just for testing purposes, I moved the .gif file by itself on to the web server.  When I access it through Internet Explorer on the web server, it works.
    How do I get the file to animate in Captivate?
    Your help is appreciated.  Thanks.

    I wasn't able to open your GIF animation in Photoshop and nothing appeared in Captivate when I inserted it -- the same experience that you had. I tried an experiment with a very simple GIF animation that I created from scratch in Photoshop CS4. When I tried to insert this simple animation into Captivate 4, a message appeared that Captivate was converting. It never finished converting and eventually hung Captivate and had to force it to quit.
    Since Lilybiri is able to insert Photoshop animated GIFs into Captivate without any problems, it may be that there are some version incompatibilities. It would be interesting to know which versions of Photoshop and Captivate Lilybiri is using and which versions you are using. It would also be interesting to know if Lilybiri is using transparency in the GIF, and which settings are being used when saving the GIF.

  • Artboards disappearing in Illustrator CS4

    I'm using Illustrator CS4 on Mac OSX 10.6 and have created a 12 page document for folks at work.
    Every time I re-open the document to make amends all but the first artboard have disappeared.
    All the artwork content is still there, layers are fine etc but where the outline of the artboard page was there are now only guides Which are added to a layed named 'Guides For Artboard'.
    When I create a PDF of this file it only does the one, first page. It's like it doesn't realise the rest of the pages exist.
    But this doesn't happen to every document. It keeps happening to this one, it's happened to others but then when I open them again later they are fine.
    Is this a bug??
    This file was created new in CS4 and is only edited by myself on the same machine.
    Any suggestions would save me some serious grief!!
    Ta

    No it's saved as a CS4 ai file.
    But that did get me wondering, so I saved it as a AI CS3 file and upon reopening that it's done the same thing, added guides where my artboards were.
    That makes sense as CS3 doesn't support multiple artboards.
    But I am saving all my artworks as CS4 files and it's doing this to some of them which is what I don't understand.
    Just wondered if there was a setting i'd missed or something

  • Complaint: Animated GIF, Photoshop CS4

    I am a freelance print designer. Needless to say that I have upgraded to the Design Standard Edition of the Creative Suite 4. Still, some customers ask me to do their web banners, too.
    Fact 1:
    There is an animation palette in Photoshop CS4 Standard.
    Fact 2:
    You can create animations with that palette.
    Fact 3:
    You can save the animation as an animated GIF.
    Fact 4:
    Opening the animated GIF, you only get the first frame, so you cannot edit the animation or content inside the GIF.
    Fact 5:
    I need to alter a few animated GIFs which I created several years ago using Photoshop CS2. Due to a harddrive crash, I don't have access to the original layered PSD files any more.
    Fact 5:
    Photoshop CS4, the most advanced image editing tool on the face of the earth, is absolutely useless at this point, and I have to find freeware or shareware to do the job. Finding and purchasing this sort of software is MY time, and that is MY money.
    Whatever drove Adobe to cripple Photoshop CS4 Standard, whatever drove them to expel the simple "Open Animated GIF" feature from Photoshop CS4, it was the wrong decision.
    This, Adobe, is a customer complaint. Take it serious. There is competition, and I hear a lot about GIMP these days.
    Frustrated,
    Gero

    I know this thread is getting on a bit now, but I do have the answers.
    Quite simply, as far as I can tell, this cannot be done without Quicktime installed.
    To open an animated gif in CS4 on a PC:
    1. Go to File->Import->Video Frames to Layers
    2. In the File Name box type “*” ( or you can type the name manually) The window will now show every type of file
    3. Select your gif and you are done
    To open animated gif in CS4 on a MAC:
    1.  Go to open, select your GIF, then in the bottom left corner of the open file dialogue box select Quicktime Movie as the format, then open your GIF.
    2.  You’ll need to open your animations window by going to window -> animation. This will bring up the time line.
    3.  If you want to have all of the frames broken up into layers, click the options in the animation window, and select “Flatten Frames into Layers”.
    This will give you access to all the frames as layers and you can now edit the GIF as though it was a movie.
    I hope this helps to ease somebody's frustration.

  • Animated .gif files

    I have been using an older version of Photoshop Elements for a long time but just got a new MacPro and decided it's time to upgrade my PSE.  But maybe not....I downloaded the Photoshop Elements Trial version to check out if it's really worth upgrading or not and I think I'm in trouble. I have a ton of animated .gif files and they do not appear to open in the familiar "layers".  i read through some of these discussion threads and I think you're saying that if I use the current version of Photoshop Elements I will not be able to edit my old .gif files.  I did try making new layered files and save them for the web with animation and that seemed to work.  But if I'm going to lose the ability to edit my old .gif files I'm not sure I want to upgrade.
    Can someone clarify this for me please.  Maybe it's just a matter of switching from Elements to CS4, but I thought from the descriptions of the programs as provided in the Products section that I fit more with the Elements program.....maybe not????
    And this does not even consider that I haven't tried to load my older version on the new intel machine yet, it may not even run if I try that.
    I do, for about 20% of my computing time use "that other" platform, but I don't like it, I much prefer my wonderful Mac machines.
    thanks for your help
    Leigh

    Thank you for your offer, I do appreciae it.  But I think the better question to ask at this point is :  What is the last version of Photoshop Elements that supports editing animated gif files.  This is too important to me to lose this ability and after checking further I see CS4 is out of my price and needed features range. I would rather hang on to my old laptop to manipulate photos than lose the ability to edit my .gif files.
    Can anybody help with this question?

  • Editing an animated gif file

    Hi experts,
    I have an animated gif file that works in my Dreamweaver website.  However, I edited the gif file in Photoshop, changing the image and canvas sizes.  When I save it (as a gif), only the top layer is retained, and it's no longer an animation.  How can I save the edited file and keep it as an animation that will work on my web page?
    Many thanks for hints
    Richard

    What version of PS are you running? In CS4, 5 and 5.5 (not sure on the others) you simply just open the .gif. It should be in layers - one layer for each frame. You will then need to open the animation panel before making any modifications. If you don't, it will change each frame to the current.
    You can't use save as. You need to use save as web or devices then make sure it's a gif and ensure the frames indicator says more than 1. You can then use the play/forward buttons to make sure it looks as you expect.

  • Activation of links to embedded ".kmz" and "Animated GIF" files.

    I recently upgraded from Adobe Acrobat Pro X to Adobe Acrobat  Pro XI and noticed a slight difference on how documents linked in an Adobe Acrobat File are activated for display.
    I have placed files I want to display in my Adobe Acrobat file as file attachments.  I then link to those files, so that the user can click on an icon area within the document and open the file in a new window.
    After a little effort, I was able to make the correct links to .pdf file attachments, but ran into problems linking to and displaying files that utilize external applications to view the file.  If I was able to convert this file to a .pdf file, I could open it with no problem.
    However, I am having trouble linking the following file types for display from file attachments already embedded in the Adobe Acrobat document file.
    They are...Portable Network Graphic (PNG), Animated Graphic Interchange Format (GIF), and Keyhole Mark-up Language - Zipped (.KMZ)  and Microsoft Word (PPT) files.
    The .pdf file was originally convered from a Microsoft Word file in which all of the links worked fine.
    I thought I had the problem solved in Adobe Acrobat Pro X, but cannot seem to open the same files iin Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
    Would appreciate some guidance.

  • Problem saving as a gif.

    Hey everyone.
    I am trying to make a signature for online forums. I have
    made it how I want it, so I go publish it as a .Gif file. I go to
    view the .gif file, and it comes out distorted and with blue lines
    in places where they shouldn't be. Just wondering what could be
    wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    I used this one, very good

  • How can I make a .gif file work in Keynote on my iPad Mini?

    How can I make a .gif file work in Keynote on my iPad Mini?
    Have saved a .gif file to my Camera Roll, and it works fine as I have checked it through mail. When I import it into Keynote however it won't animate. Even when I play slide. Any suggestions?

    The can use apps such as Apple's Pages app for Word documents and Numbers for Excel spreadsheets, and from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.

  • Fireworks has changed all my gif files into index can't edit in photoshop

    Fireworks has taken over my gif files and now when I try to edit them in photoshop I can't.  It says index on the end of file and the layer is locked.  I need fireworks to stop this so no other files do it.  I have been going into photoshop an saving them as a jpg. file but that can get old.  Is there anyway to stop fireworks from doing this?

    Glad this helped!
    It's interesting: Fireworks makes it much easier to work with GIFs. You just open up the file and start working. Fireworks doesn't have color modes (Grayscale, Indexed Color, RGB, CMYK, Lab) like Photoshop, and is much more geared towards hex codes—which I'm guessing is what indexed color systems use. This makes sense, as it was built to be a web graphics editor.
    Apparently, GIFs don't support layers. Fireworks will let you add layers to your GIF, but once it's time to save the file, it'll let you know that you must either save the file in a different format or else the result will be flattened:
    Photoshop isn't nearly as friendly to GIFs. Depending on the action you choose, you might get a clue about the need to convert to another color mode, like this one that appears when attempting to use the Dodge Tool:
    Just as often, though, you'll only get greyed-out options or an angry "boop" sound from your computer—like when you double click on the locked "Index" layer—with no information provided. I think the engineers could improve this by adding a similar alert message to the Dodge Tool, or even better, by offering a prompt with the option to convert the image to RGB directly (when a user double clicks on the locked layer).
