Saving Master Pages question & photo layout question

I am making a custom book theme (for instance at 8x8 inches) to use mainly for printing layouts. When I design a page template that I want to use multiple times, I have tried saving it "to document master" and "as a new document master". If I delete the book, the 8x8 theme is still saved when I make a new book, but the page template is not. Is there a way to save the page template into the theme without leaving the old book in my Aperture library?
Thanks for any help you can give.

i was making a hard cover book in aperature and i was almost done
somehow it switched to soft cover
i lost the flaps in the front and back
all the pages seem to be ok
but now i can't get the hard cover back without ruining all the pages
and it is finished
i want to order
ugh any help here
thanks

  • Photoshop Elements 9 changing page size/photo layout

    Hello.  I am using the trial version before purchasing. I like to print out photo album pages with about 9 photos per page in the 8.5x11 portrait format.  However, all the "photo book" templates are in landscape and have only up to 3 photos per page.  Is there an easy way to create my own template, or modify the page size and layout?  I have spent hours with no success.  Thank you for helping!

    Can't help you, but you should know I'm having exactly the same problem in PSE 8. Even though the program specifies 8-1/2 x 11" (that's portrait, not landscape) and allows me to choose No Theme, and shows that both right and left pages should have vertical, not horizontal, pictures . . . I get everything flat and not tall.
    Is there a way around this?

  • Applying custom master page on layout pages

    I am applying my custom master page on application layout pages which I am deploying using visual studio. My issue is; I have to copy my custom master page in the same directory where my layout pages exist otherwise its not working.
    I want to deploy my custom master in the default master page directory and refer it to my layout pages.
    is it possible or I have to copy my custom master page in the layout page directory ????

    Hi Nazish,
    By default your application pages will inherit the masterpage currently applied to the site where your app is hosted, but to specify a custom master on a app page you have to set the "CustomMasterURL" property on your site.
    Next your application page needs to inherit from the "LayoutsPageBase" class and you need to specify your custom masterpage on your application page with "~masterurl/custom.master"

  • Composed Look and System Master Page

    Hi,
    I have been able to create my composed looks, but it keeps resetting our System Master Page setting to match that of the composed look master page setting.
    My Question - Is there a way like an event reciever or something so I can extend the Composed Look list to set different System Master pages? Seems pretty cool to let users choose there own look, but we do not want to change the backend look and feel as
    a few scenarios remove useful key elements when in the backend from in the display if its a team site compared to a published site.
    I cannot use a web feature, or make it part of the site feature because there are multiple composed looks and i need it to apply the system master page when the user chooses "apply this look" or what ever that label is they click.
    Thanks

    I haven't test this but when you hit apply on a composed look the Composed Look list is supposed to be updated.
    I've read that SharePoint updates the 'Current Item' in this list to reflect your newly changed settings.
    You could try an event receiver on that list for Item Updated on the SPListTemplateType.DesignCatalog template type ID = 124, which is the Compose Look List.
    Found the reference
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj927175(v=office.15).aspx#section3
    When a user applies a theme in the Change
    the look wizard, the wizard also updates a theme named Current in the Composed Looks
    list and the design gallery. When you apply a theme programmatically, you have to update the Current theme manually. The following example shows how to update the Current theme.

  • Limit on the number of photographs in Photo Layout Creation v5.0?

    Hi,
    Moving from PSE v4.0 to v5.0 Adobe changed the way Photo Album pages and Photo Layouts are created. In v5.0 and greater the photos are now loaded into Elements Editor and that is where the creation is then made. The problem is that I find the Editor is severly limted in the number of photographs it can handle. In version 4.0 I could easily create an album/layout with 40-100 photographs, however anything over 20 photographs in version 5.0 causes huge peformance issues (to the point that it is just not practical to do). Currently my workaround is to use both version, but this is a cumbersome. Does anyone have any other suggestions or comments about creating photo layouts & albums with a lot of photographs??
    Thanks,
    Kelly

    Okay, I finally got the new machine and got everything setup. Here are the new specs:
    Windows XP SP2
    3 GB RAM
    Intel Core 2 DUO CPU T7700 @2.4 GHz
    HDD = 160 GB
    Unfortunetly the second HDD adapter requires a SATA HDD which I don't yet have (I'm currently in Egypt and don't have easy access to stuff), so I am still only running off of one HDD. I partition my HDD with the C-Drive containing only program installs and the D-drive containing all data. I setup my TEMP directories and such, both in the environments and in PSE to point to my D drive, which currently has 40 GB free space. (My C drive is down to about 5 GB, but as stated nothing should be writing there).
    I did a few creation test runs in both PSE5 and PSE6. I did notice that PSE6 is just slightly faster (although not much). I also noticed that on this new machine (versus my old) things are faster, but in my opinion still drag. For example, I selected 35 photos from organzier and then create photo book ... it took about 5 minutes to load and get the photos placed. In V4 this is just about instant. Then moving photos around (page to page) is a bit sluggish, although not as bad as it used to be. Version 6 now has a save as PDF in the photo book creation, but it doesn't allow you to change the quality settings (ie optimize for viewing onscreen, which then creates a smaller pdf file).
    The other thing I don't like is how much hard disk space a collage takes up. The creation for these 35 photos took over 300MB. That will add up fast.
    What I realize is that there are two cases for photo creations (1) quick and easy and not ideal for printing - ie smaller resolutions, smaller images, etc etc, and (2) creating photo layouts/books meant to be printed. It seems PSE4 handled case 1 better and PSE5 and PSE6 are better setup for case 2. In the future I plan to make printable books, but right now I'm just trying to post small pdf photo files on my website ... so it's looking like I'll have to continue to use two versions.
    I'm still curious as to what type of run times other users are getting when using creations - and how many photos they are adding. I can't imagine how long it would take to add 100+ photos (which I do regularly in version 4).

  • 2 Questions: Basic Shape / Go to Master Page

    Hi. My questions revolve around InDesign CS4 for Mac.
    Specs: PowerMac G5, 1.8Ghz, 4GB ram, 435GB hd, OSX 10.5.8, IDCS4, Suitcase Fusion 2 (if any of that matters).
    I have a basic shape question that is perplexing me. I'm a 12 year QuarkXPress user who converted to ID CS4 last year by choice (to gain the experience under employ) so there are things here and there that cause me confusion.
    In any case my question is this. How can I convert a rectangle frame to a perfect square frame?
    Specifically, if I drop in an image, and the frame is rectangular how can I make it a perfect square using keyboard shortcuts? I realize I can create a new frame and constrain proportions as I draw it to get a perfect square, then cut and then paste the image into that, or I can transform the frame by entering equal values in the transform panel or control palette. Which would answer my question if this was not something XPress can do effortlessly.
    If you draw a shape (box) in XPress and then hold down the SHIFT key XPress will immediately transform the shape into either a perfect square or circle depending on which tool you are using. Release and you have a perfect square or circle. But you cannot seem to do this in ID after you have already drawn an rectangle?
    Is there any way around this that does not involve multiple keystrokes or drawing a new frame?
    Second question. Anyway to go direct to master pages without having to use CMD+J and then enter the MP letter? In XPress OPTN+F10 will take you directly there and directly back.
    P.S. Not trying to start an XPress/ID discussion. Just trying to learn this program and XPress is the only reference I have.
    Thanks for any advice/tips in advance.

    Keyboard shortcut for these operation , you already know the standard method , but if you want some kind of one step procedure then scripting can help.
    Post your query on the Indesign scripting forums , someone may come up with the script to select the master page and change the rectangle to square.
    and you can define the keyboard shortcut to run this scripts ,,,one step procedure.

  • Indesign question: Master page items I remove won't stay gone

    I'm working on laying out a book, with various chapters which are separate files. Naturally there's a master page with various guides I use a lot, as well as a fairly standard running header with page numbers and chapter and section names. As is standard practise, I want these to appear on nearly every page, but not on the first pages of chapters. (There are other times I might want to override this, but that's the main one.) So, I Ctrl-Shift-click and delete them when I set up a new chapter.
    Problem is, they don't stay gone. Every so often, I open up a previous chapter and find that these elements are back on the first page of that chapter, and I delete them again. I've only been noticing this since I made the chapters in question into a book file so I could keep an eye on my page count and synch up styles more easily.
    My best guess is that maybe it has something to do with the aforementioned synching. I do want those chapters to share the same master page(s) but do not want IDto keep reapplying elements from them to individual pages that I've already manually removed them from (sometimes more than once). How can I prevent this from happening? (Or alternatively, if this isn't the cause of the problem, what else could it be and how do I deal with that?)

    Fair enough. Guess that's just as easy, if not slightly easier, than what I've been doing, and so far it seems to be working.

  • Basic working/Master Page questions

    Beginner - creating 80 pg catalog in ID -
    I'm a little confused with using  ID master pages and don't have time to go through a lot of tutorials at the moment. I created a new doc with 4 master pages (all spreads) to use at will throughout, intending to swap out text and images in page layout mode once the master pages are dragged down into the page layouts section of the palette.
    After dragging pages from the Master Pages section down into pages palette, creating new spreads, the page layouts can't use any of the elements until I select them and then choose Override Master Page Items? So none of the text formatting/picture boxes/elements are ready to use by default? I don't get it … master pages are by default meant to be background elements only?
    Switching from Quark, where all Master Page elements are ready to swap in text and images after dragging them into the page layout panel. How to best accomplish having the Master page elements immediately available for use in page layouts? Template?
    LMK if I need to provide more info...
    ID 6/CS4  Macos10.6.8

    Master objects in ID are not like they are in Quark. If they have content in them you must override them before you can alter them. Empty master frames can receive content via File > Place... without overriding. You can override any master object by holding Cmd + Shift and left click on it.
    The general principle for using master objects in ID is if they need to be overridden to use them, you really need a darn good reason to put them on the master page at all since you defeat the purpose of having them on the master when you do that.

    You'd be much better served if you did spend some time training. You'll never get good at ID as long as you continue to think like a Quark user.

  • [None] master page: margins questions (CS4ME)

    Hello,
    Does anyone know where the [None] master page gets its margins from? How can I change those margins?
    Thank you,
    Ariel

    I don't get the behaviour. In a blank default document, hitting ctrl-shift-p adds a new page with [None] applied? Also, in my case I added running-heads to the A-Master. So for pages where no running-head was required I was applying None, only to realize later that the margins there were different. I think. Although applying None doesn't actually change the margins. Hmm.
    And with scripting I'm not managing to access the [None] page: In other words, this:
    app.activeDocument.masterSpreads[0].name
    returns "A-Master"

  • SharePoint O365 Tenant - Custom Master Page Question

    Hi guys,
    I setup a custom master page for a client and currently they have been very happy with it, although due to recent changes in the suit bar(the app launcher button) we had to move some design around on the page so that everything rendered properly.  As
    a result I had to use a method that is not the common practice and place all the code for the custom navigation bar, and logo right below the <body> tag and before the "<!--SPM:<SharePoint:ImageLink
    runat="server"/>-->" tag in order for things to render in the way they are requesting.  As a result of this the added code is displaying on top of every popup window as well as full page.  We only want it to display
    at the top of main pages.  In the attached image you will see that the page has a popup box for adding something to the calendar.  I attempted to edit the NewForm.aspx for Calendar List Item, but i was not able to find anything of use.  I even
    attempted to hide the div that holds all the code for the top bar via the NewForm.aspx but it was a no go.  Please advise on what I can do or weather i can attach a class of some sort to the div that would make this dynamic and hide on pop up pages.
    Thank You

    ***Update***
    I managed to figure out a solution to this problem.  I simply added the right class to it so its no longer in dialog boxes
    class="s4-notdlg noindex"

  • How to Add App Part to Master Page OR Page Layout

    I have a very simple requirement.
    I need to add an app part on left nav so that it appears on all the pages. E.g. Its a calendar app which shows holidays.
    If its not doable in master page i left with no choice to add it in page layout.
    But I dont find it in Snippets within Page Layouts or master page...
    Is there any way?
    Prasad

    Hi Prasad,
    A very similar conversation was recently discussed here:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/ed858354-fa66-42fa-8afa-2352ada015be/add-app-client-app-part-in-master-page?forum=appsforsharepoint
    Although not advisable to add webparts directly to masterpages but there are options using delegates to do so.

  • Multiple edition magazine layout question

    Magazine(s) layout question
    Details:
    - There are 9 total magazines. The only thing that changes are the ads.
    - I have all text set up in Master Pages and the Different publications set up as 'versions' in my file.
    My issue:
    I also need to ad a footer master (with page number, Publication name, and Date)
    - Publication name changes for each version.
    In the end I need one master with all magazine text assigned to all version. And a different footer master with page numbers to all versions....
    any suggestions on how to complete this?

    Either you can use Alternative Layouts in one document, you will need only to work on the first layout, the text in the outher layouts or you can the Content-Tools and Create LInk option to take the original and place it into the new document. Later you have only to update the links in the link panel. You can take by option the whole page with all elements.

  • How to remove all pages from layout? (except Master Page)

    Geetings Experts:
    I'm implementing additional security measures into my 'initialze' event, where I'll check some global variables and render the file unreadable if needed.
    Which object and properties do I access to remove all my pages from the form?
    I would like to createa a function that removes all the sub pages, leavning only the Matster Page, enable a label in the MasterPage and save itself.
    I searched for xfa.layout and Page[n].remove() methods but cannot find any reference to these.
    .presence = "hidden", fulfills my purpose but the pages remian visible and I need for a clean solution no pages are visible.
    I'm advanced in C# but a novice in LC JavaScript, so any comment, reference or code snipet will be greatly appreciated

    Hi Ivan,
    The particular syntax of Javascript in LC Designer is different from that used in Acrobat and different (as I understand it) from core javascript and other applications. There are several free guides on the Adobe web site which cover Acrobat and LC:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_scriptingBasics
    http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_scriptingReference
    http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_formCalc
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/articles/Adobe_XML_Form_Object_Model_Refer ence.pdf
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/lc_migrating_acrobat_xmlform.pdf
    And a very handy resource (it goes back to version 6, but is still applicable):http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/tips/CalcScripts.pdf
    JP Terry's book on LC Forms is very good and we use www.pdfscripting (which is a subscription service). If you are going to be doing a lot of LC Designer work, these may be of help.
    I am not a coder, so I going to try and work through your script. Bear with me if you already have this sorted...
    The script looks ok and you are using the resolveNode method correctly. Seeing topmostSubform in the resolveNode indicates that you imported an existing document into LC. This is fine, but sometimes it restricts some of the functionality.
    For starters I think that mPg is returning null. You can use the following in your script to see what is happening (debugging) and then comment it out:
    console.println("mpg: " + mPg);
    Then when previewing hit control+J to bring up the javascript console, then will show the value of mPg when that script executes.
    Try deleting the SOM up to #pageSet:
    var mPg = xfa.resolveNode("#pageSet.MasterPage1");
    The javascript console will show you when the script is working.
    In relation to the loop, I would advise a few changes:
    for (var i=1; i <= xfa.layout.pageCount(); i++)
         var vPage = ("xfa.form.topmostSubform.Page" + i).toString();
         //console.println("vPage: " + vPage);
         var curPage = xfa.resolveNode(vPage);
         curPage.presence = "hidden";
    }//next page
    There are a few things here:
    I would declare i as a variable, not an integer (not sure if it makes a difference);
    I would use pageCount rather than numPages and then <=;
    There was an extra ; at the end of the loop declaration;
    I would break the script into steps and get the full SOM of the page as a variable first and then resolveNode that variable;
    You don't need to go to the current page;
    I tend to name master pages with a capital "P" and pages with a small "p". Personal preference, but it can make tracking script easier.
    Have a crack off that and hopefully you can get it to work,
    Niall
    ps another tip, if you want to reference an object in script. First click on the object you want to script for and then scroll (or click on the master page) for the object you want to reference. Click inside the script editor and then when you move the mouse back into the form, press and hold Control, this will turn the mouse into a "V". When you click on the object you want to reference it will insert the SOM into the script. If it needs the resolveNode it will automatically put that in for you. Holding Shift and Control will insert a fully resolved node.

  • Master Detail module returns to Master page after Detail record saved

    Using Oracle Designer Editor version 10.1.2.0.2 I have generated a Web PL/SQL package
    set up as a Master/Detail where the Master and Detail records appear in separate windows.
    The Master window contains multi-records each with a link to the related Detail records.
    The user clicks on the Detail link and the window that appears will allow the user to insert
    a new Detail record. Once the user clicks the Save button I need the Detail window to disappear
    and the focus returned to the Master records preferably after a new query is performed.
    What are the steps I need to perform to navigate back to the Master page and close the Detail
    page?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    The simple answer is that to do exactly what you want would take some fundamental changes to the way the framework works. The actionInsert procedure does what it does - it saves the changes and redisplays the form. You can do post-generation changes to make it do something else, like return to the Master, but I'd advise against it.
    But if you want a way to return to the Master window, where the user clicks a button or link on the detail form after saving changes, that we can do. Just make a note of the URL that does the initial display of the Master page - probably my_module_name$.startup. Go into the detail module component, and click the User Text tab. Then at Text Location, "Bottom of View Form" (or Top if you want the link there) add for a link:
    htf.anchor('my_module_name$.startup','Return to Master')Or for a button:
    htf.formOpen('my_module_name$.startup','GET')||htf.formsubmit('Return to Master')||htf.formCloseYou may need to set the SECECS preference for this module to "No" to get this to work.
    An alternative to my method is to define an Action Item in the module that does a navigation. I often am linking directly to the View form for a master table, rather than a record list, as you are, and Action Items don't work well for that, but one might work fine for you.
