Saving work in LR3.2

Have only used this program a few times but have not discovered how to save my work when
completed.
Is it possible to just save a file in some manner that it can be recovered by LR3 or read in another program and/or printed?

Adding to what Jeff said (), if you want to do something with your edited image (like post it somewhere, email it to a friend) then you will have to export the image. You can print from inside LR, you wouldn't need to export it for that reason. Or, if you have other things you want to do, you could edit it first in Photoshop and save it. This will also automatically load it back into LR as a second version of your original file. PS will automatically save it back in the same image tree it started with, but you could have saved it as something else when you were done in PS as well.
As you can see, there are many ways to get the finished image out of LR. Most of us don't bother, except for final printing or special reasons. And as Ian said, save happens automatically every time you do something, so there is no need for a save button.
I'd recommend looking at a number of the tutorials, either in video or in book form, to find out all that you can do with LR!

My son saved work on my computer, but used his own email address. He can't remember his email address password and is out of the country and doesn't have internet access. If I sign up for my own account on Illustrator, will I be able to pull up the work that he saved on my computer?

Yes you will be able to open all the Files saved by him. But you can't access his Creative Cloud assets which are associated with his ID such as: Type kit Fonts, Swatches, Design Library Assets etc.

Goes up @ 4.3GHz on full load, then come down to 1.6GHz idle( perfect) try with prime95 about a hour, temperature when up to 71c then between 58-65c
Set all to auto, then enter the cpu features.
Set the power levels short / long to 255 and the power duration to 2 seconds.
Then increase the turbo speed there to w/er you wish 4.2-4.5 are typical everyday overclock settings.
( OK mine if i'm not mistaking it's 1-core ratio limit [43] ,
2-core ratio limit [43] , 3-core ratio limit [43] 4-core ratio limit [43]

Mine is running At 4.3GHz with auto vcore, with Antec water cooler 920 no issue so far..
On reboot, click delete to enter bios then do same setting has me but with Vcore auto, save and reboot, in window under click center , check your clock speed under load, it will give your i7-3770k stable clock zone..

If you don't mind to try overclock genie first in the bios, I sure would like to know if it does anything for you, cause mine it's only capable to OC Genie the GPU only, . I wrote to company about it but no reply yet..
But it might be a cheap board but you can still overclock it anyway..

Saving photos in LR3 for email

I am encountering a problem with Lightroom 3 in emailing some family photos. I shot the photos in RAW & JPG. I initally processed the photos in LR3. Later I went back and made some addiitonal touchup work with the adjustment tools. I tried sending the files to email and sending a test email with three photos attached. Everytime I do this, I get the older version of my photos, without the latest edits. I even tried renaming the photos displayed in my library and sending the renamed files. However, I continue to get the receive r version without the latest edits in my test email.
Obviously what I see on my screen has not been saved properly. What can I do, to save the latest updated version? I thought this was done automatically.

I mainly use a MAC and have the email function working, but on my Vista laptop All I can do is make the mail client (Program) start and nothing else!
But I think it helps if you understand the process.
Apply export settings to file
Export file with all adjustments and export settings
Do post processing actions e.g. show in explorer, open in other application etc
In the email export process, the first entry is the location where the exported files will be placed, for you, this is the most important. It is where your resized photos for email are exported too. If you change the last option to display in explorer, it will bring the explorer window up with your images for emailing.
From here you can choose which email program you want to use and drag the photos to that program or attach them to gmail, the explorer window is open so you will know the exact path to the images.

As to your other questions,
a program folder is the same as a data folder. It's just the folder where the program exists.
an email client is an email program
an alias on windows is known as a shortcut (Right click selected file in explorer, create Shortcut)

Nik Software Plug-ins not working with LR3

Hello,
I have both LR 2.7 and LR3 running on my computer. When I installed LR 3, it load the Nik software plug-ins into the external editor section like LR 2.7. However, when I try to use a Nik plug-in in LR 3 I get an error message that the " File xxxxx.tif can not be opened because it does not exist or access is denied." The Nik interface opens, then I get this error message, but then it places the xxxxx.tif file in the film strip. The plug-ins work just fine with LR 2.7. I've uninstalled and re-installed the plug-ins, but the same error message pops up in LR 3. I have contacted Nik Software, but have not gotten an answer that works. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what was your solution. I've tried everything I know of except uninstalling LR 3 and re-installing. I'm using Windows 7 64bit. I have CS4 (32 and 64bit) and CS5 (32 and 63bit) running and the plug-ins work just fine with them.

Hi Martin,
You might try going in the pref and under external editing and try to manually set up each one. Go down to additonal external editing. Click on Choose and then go to the folder where you have your Nik software installed and choose the program file. There will be dialog box telling you to name the file, call it anything you want and the click ok. Go to the drop down bar and select Save as new preset. Close LR3 and then reopen and check to see if your program is there under the new name. If not, you probably will have un-install all the plug-ins and re-install. Hope this helps!

I rated the app in the store and was to explain further regarding my work getting lost.    I've actually up'd the star rating because I think it's not really an Adobe issue. I think android closes apps when it reaches a certain limit of apps running. switching apps probably just closes photoshop touch. I know on HTC it's 7 apps.
Anyway, if you switch apps with the android app switcher, and use something else and come back, sometimes the app crashes, or just starts over, loosing your work. An example, switching to see a SMS and right back will close your project sometimes. Other times it goes back to exactly where it was at. Again, probably an android mememory thing..   Wondering if maybe you can have background saving to a temp file and reopen that if the app is closed by android.

Never, ever, ever trust a program to save your work for you. I learned that several times myself -the hard way- losing data while working on projects.

Saving work part done

I ran out of time so could not check it myself. If I have done a lot of work on a picture file in PSE9 but not completed it, can I save as a photoshop file to say my picture files then when I call the same file back into PSE9 will it open in the same condition? The file today was one of my Bonsai trees (a large one) and I was using quick (not really quick I find) selection tool to select the tree and pot then reverse it so I could play with the layer/colour on the background.
It was the time spent getting the marching ants as close to the edge of the individual leaves that took the time, a nudge here and a back nudge there; I'd just finished and remembered I had an appointment so saved it as a photoshop file (think that was the option), question is - will it open in precisely the same manner, with those marching ants visible or would I need to start all over again? This is on an Apple i-mac BTW.

It will not preserve the marching ants, but here‘s a tip.
When using the quick selection tool you are bound to select parts of the background or other areas you don’t want.
If you hold down the Alt/optn key the selection tool changes from positive to negative. So you can refine your selection as you go along.

Saving work books locally

Hello all,
When we save the work book locally as excel, and again we can open this excel
As when we open this excel it will give only the data which is stored but not the updated data because this excel does not have connection with BW system
so how can we use work books by saving locally but with latest data when we open?

Workbooks should always stored along with Roles or in Favourites.
If you save WB locally like on your PC desktop you won't get updated data.
thts bcoz of RFC connection.
you can only save the WB data Locally as simple XLS/XLSX form.
But this will be treated as normal Excel file not the Workbook.

Having a strange problem saving work in PS CS4.

Hello,
Recently, work that I've saved in PS CS4, has not been visible in Bridge, although it can be seen in Explorer >My Pictures.
I don't have any idea why this happens, but I believe it's related to a disastrous proble I'm having today with InDesign CS4 where I've lost 4 days of work which had been saved in the usual manner.
This is a really serious problem because I don't know if anything I save now will be retrievable.

Premiere Crash on Export, HOURS of saved work vanished, need help finding

I have been working on a huge project for the past couple days. I've been saving on top of auto save on my own anally every five minutes.
Trial went up mid project and I had to upgrade to full creative CC package, in doing so Adobe gave me a new version of premiere not compatible of single App version I was working on with project before. So after the purchase when I went to open my project, it would prompt me and alert me of this difference, letting me know that my project is only compatible in a different version of premiere. I figured for this project, no big.
I FINALLY got the perfect cut, saved, went to export and my system locked up. I left it idle for a hour or so, came back and still frozen. I decided to reboot because there was no coming out of it.
Really freaking out over here, I will owe anyone my life who can try and help me figure out how to recover that final saved project file. No versions near the latest can be found in the obvious places to look.
I'm no file-saving-backup-techno genius. Please. SOS.

I share your feeling. Ppro inspires itself to crash at random intervals for no apparent reason and has done so for me since day one. I've spent the better part of 8 embittered years with the Ppro system, not a single version ever yielded reasonable stability.
In fact I just lost about an hour's work a moment ago after a freeze while simply scrubbing through a timeline. Not a single autosave file created since this afternoon.
I hear responses that are equal parts "works fine for me" and "I too live a tortured existence" and while Adobe engineers have been nothing but enthusiastic, patient, and helpful, the software remains an incredibly fragile and fickle ordeal. I've been left with the frustrating impression that the program is a patchwork quilt of functionality constructed piecemeal to keep pace with our ever-evolving needs, and bugs specific to certain hardware and software configurations inevitably multiply with them. Regardless of others' success, I believe that if a stool has two legs, it doesn't have to fall over to be considered unstable.
So as not to be a totally useless grumpy lubber, I would suggest doing what the Adobe engineers would tell you first, which would be to trash your preferences and clear your Cache folder. It won't bring back your work, but sometimes those files get corrupted and can choke your system again in the future.

NOrmally when I go to upload site, asis if I want to save first, but didn't this time, just locked up. Work is not saved. I need to mention that I have not worked on DW since I upgraded my Mac.

Are yu saying that the hold switch doesn't work to get it out of "Hold"? Have you tried (with the hold switch in the left or off position) to reset it: press and hold Menu and Select (center) buttons at the same time for at least 6 seconds?

Premier Pro cs4 Loosing 'auto saved' work at a crash.

I am very happy with this program. I have worked with Premier since v5 way back so I know the set up pretty well. After a long break I have started in again with CS4. Now - Everything goes well; Good PC.amd ATHLON 11 3.OOghZ/2MB CACHE. 4gb ram ETC..
The Problem: I have preverences set to auto save every 5 mins. So, every 5 mins there is a small panel pop up to tell me its saving the project, OK. However, I can work for say - 30 mins and there's a crash for whatever reason. Question - why are all those auto saves not saved!? I loose all my work from start. I should say that sometimes I get a close down and the program is able to recover the progect at the point it closed. I can live with that! Of course - it should not crash at all! But - a crash that looses all my work when it has autiosaved every 5 minutes, I don't understand. My program runs on XP on a dual partitioned drive, and my clips and progects are saved to a fast USB external hard drive. Any help much appreciated from an elderly gentleman! Ed.

You asked for it.
1. Lose the dual partitions. Reformat the disk and reinstall OS & programs. Remember to de-activate CS4 before you do that.
2. Get two internal SATA disks, one for page file, scratch and previews, one for media.
3. Use the USB for backups, not for editing, because it is way too slow and often causes problems like you describe.
This IS how my Z400 is set up and I too lose my Auto-Saves same as the OP.
It pops up and says 'Saving' but if I have a Crash and want to roll back to an Auto-Save... there isn't one from 5minutes ago when it Auto-Saved. Sometimes the last Auto-Save file may be 1-2 hours ago although it Auto-Saves every 10mins.
I've also noticed that even if I Manually Save my project but suffer a Crash... often times the newest completed edits before the Save are NOT there.

Dear Gurus,
I have a specific requirement like i need to stop users saving the work book in a folder. The Problem is we have 5 rpeorts in folder and users from Different countries accessing the reports and saving the report according to their company code and when others trying to use its displaying no authorizations , how to stop that.

In order to save a workbook, a user needs two authorization objects. The
two objects listed below are the minimum authorizations, a user needs to
save workbooks.
-> S_GUI: Authorization for GUI activities
-> S_BDS_DS: Authorizations for document set
Both these authorizations will enable a user to save workbooks to their
'Favourites' folder. If a user wants to save a workbook to a location
where it can be easily accessed by others, they need to save to a 'Role'
rather than saving the workbook in their own Favorites folder. You can
then assign the Role to all parties who need to share workbooks. In
order to save workbooks to Roles, a user needs following authorizations.
-> S_USER_AGR: Authorizations: Role check
-> S_USER_TCD: Transactions in roles
I guess your users have the auts to save their personal settings in the role... ie: country code..., to control this take a look at the authorization object S_user_AGR... if they have activity 02 (change) for this then they will be able to save to the role. Would it suit your purposes to have them have display only access to this workbook in the role (activity 03 for S_USER_AGR)

Free Memory - Saving work quickly!

I'm currently using the ram hungry quantum leap symphonic orchestra with 2.5Gb of ram. I usually work upto my limit in reguards to ram and this poses the problem of frequently saving my work.
e.g. If I've only made a few midi changes within a song and I need to save the changes; it takes about 3-5mins (depending on the instruments) to load all the instruments up again due to the 'free memory' proccess reconfiguring the ram.
I understand that it's neccessary to free up memory when working with high powered sampled intruments, however, it does seem pointless to wait such a long time if you just want to save a few midi changes.
I've tried to changing the setting for 'empty trash after saving song' (preferences/global/song handling/) but to no avail.
Any ideas?

Here are a bunch of tips for getting the most out of your EXS24
FOR SMALLER CPU (G4) WITH MORE RAMS (2-4GB) try this:
Open EXS24, go to options>virtual memory
for Disk Drive Speed select "Slow"
for Hard Disk Rec. Activity select "Extensive"
Then Apply
Doing this will release pressure from the hard disk and the CPU when you are loading samples.
It also release pressure from the HD/CPU when you are recording EXS24 or playing back sounds through EXS24.
FOR BIGGER CPU (G5) WITH LESS RAMS (1-2GB)
Open EXS24, go to options>virtual memory
for Disk Drive Speed select "Fast"
for Hard Disk Rec. Activity select "Less"
Then Apply
Doing this will release pressure from the RAMS when you are loading samples.
It also release pressure from the RAMS when you are recording EXS24 or playing back sounds through EXS24.

Indesign CS3 document did not save 6 hours of work eventhough i was continually saving...
