Scan listener for single instance

Hi,
in my 6 node 11.2 cluster, i've 1 single instance 11.2
This instance uses GI listener and i can be accessed using host vip.
Using the scan i get ora-12514.

"SCAN listeners can run on any node in the cluster. SCANs provide location independence for
databases so that the client configuration does not have to depend on which nodes run a
particular database.
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 and later instances register with SCAN listeners only as
remote listeners. Upgraded databases register with SCAN listeners as remote listeners, and
also continue to register with all other listeners."
"When a client submits a connection request, the SCAN listener listening on a SCAN IP
address and the SCAN port are contacted on the client’s behalf. Because all services on the
cluster are registered with the SCAN listener, the SCAN listener replies with the address of
the local listener on the least-loaded node where the service is currently being offered.
Finally, the client establishes a connection to the service through the listener on the node
where service is offered. All these actions take place transparently to the client without any
explicit configuration required in the client."
So scan redirect to the vip in which the instance is running.

    The question is : do you want your user to be able ti use their application offline ?
    If yes, then you may provide them a local database and use a JDBC type4 driver. (The application is fetch directly from the server when first connected and then is able to lauch the applicaiton off-line) Such a network listen is allowed by the JNLP security model without any application sign !
    If no, then why not having a single database and some user debedant table that store the user specific data (as usual), and using a login dialog-bon (or an auto-logon mechanism) to restric identify and access your database thru some business logic via RMI or any ligh-webservice technology.
    Anyway you have plenty of solutions ..... it only depends of what are the exact needs.

  • Agent issue with 10.2.0.4 on RHEL 4 for single instance db.

    Hi,
    I had 2 instances that were not able to upload nor where they secure. For one of them which ran on port 5500, I was able to go through the forums and basically I ended up dropping the repository for that instance, and then I was able to secure the agent, and uploads were fine. Now I have one single instance that runs on port 1158:

    So, with this one instance and agent, I keep going in loops with the same 2 errors:
    1. EMD upload error: uploadXMLFiles skipped :: OMS version not checked yet..
    2. The OMS is not set up for Enterprise Manager Security.
    I even followed related messages on the forums here to try to resolve the issue, but this did not work:
    '- emctl stop agent
    - delete all files in $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/upload and $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/state
    - emctl clearstate agent (this should delete all state files but sometimes it is not enough, but I experienced that it is better to use this command after deletion of the files)
    - emctl secure agent (and specify the password on demand)
    - emctl start agent'
    Any advice or help on HOW to secure this instance's agent and get it to upload would be greatly appreciated.

    I guess I solved my own issue, however I basically had to drop and recreate the repository and grid control for the instance, thus loosing over 3300 XML files, but now the agent is working and the server is running secure. I simply did:
    emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreate
    And answered all the questions... I am wondering if the 3300+ xml files I deleted by following some guy's response in a similar thread was necessary, and if it was not, I wonder if I would have been able to upload all of the files after executing and rebuilding....

    Since you have dropped the repository thats why it was needed to deleted the previous files

  • Single-instance manual standby for a three-node RAC database

    Hi all,
    I am wondering how it is possible to create a manual standby database for a rac primary database.
    Oracle versione is standard edition 11.1.
    I have experience creating and managing manual standby for single-instance database; I am wondering if and how I can instruct the single-instance standby database to discover and apply the three redo threads that I will copy from the primary site to the standby site.
    Should I use rman to catalog all the archived log on the standby site ?
    Should I configure many LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameters to point to many different path, one for each primary instance (i.e. one for each redo thread), and let rman automagically discover all the archived logs ?
    Should I configure only LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 , put archivelogs from all threads in the same folder, and let rman automagically discover all the archived logs ?

    Hi,
    indeed i catalog all transfered archive logs in front of the recover process.
    During the tests i believe (iirc) i was unable to recover from transfered archivelogs without catalog them first. But this statement is out of my mind, i am not 100% sure for this, sorry.
    Some more details.
    Because it is a standard edition, i have to use on the RAC side ASM. So our normal scripts to transfer archivelogs from primary to standby are obsolete.
    So i decided to put the whole standby thing into the database. Now the primary database uses external scheduler jobs to do the work. The standby side is not using ASM, so there is no need to handle the logs in any special way.
    The steps are:
    1. Get SCN from primary and standby
    2. Transfer the logs for the gap from ASM to "normal" filesystem.
    3. Transfer (and compress, if not in LAN) to standby archive dest
    4. Catalog on standby side
    5. Recover on standby side
    6. Delete on normal filesystem (on both sides, but on standby with a delay of 2 days just to be sure)
    The steps on the standby side are both using the primary scn from step 1 as a parameter to avoid error messages during the catalog or recover call.

    I registered a Page LifeCycle listener for single ADF bounded page in 'ControllerClass' property of pagedef file. When i m evaluating a simple condition for a lifecycle phase, it is executing two times.
    The Listener class is also a managed bean with scope of session, registered in adfc-config.xml file . This i am doing in Jdev 11.1.1.3 .

    Actually i m executing a managed bean method in afterPhase of PREPARE_RENDER_ID. Method is executing & providing the result in console, but unable to refresh the af:table. I m trying to refresh table programmatically by
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(this.t2) , where t2 is binding instance of af:table. But it is not working. Anyway, on calling method its not executing twice, but sop statement executing twice.

    I have been working on a class which I tried to make the most generic I could so that I could re-use it for various projects. It offers 2 main functionalities:
    -Preventing multiple instances of an application
    -Allowing a user to stop the application even if it doesn't read any user input
    Of course if someone wants to have multiple instances of the same application, it is still possible. The only requirement is that each instance be configured to run on a different port.
    I would like your feedback on how I've implemented this to make sure I haven't missed the chance to make my Class flexible and re-usable. I would also make sure that there aren't any situations where the different threads used for realizing this functionality will run into any conflicts.
    My code includes the following files:
    Serviceable.java : An interface which must be implemented by every application using these classes
    DuplicateServiceException.java : An exception thrown when an instance of the application is already running
    Service.java : The class responsible for offering the functionalities I already mentionned
    Main.java : An example of a class implementing Serviceable and offering two ways of closing the Application. 1- By closing the JFrame which is displayed. 2- By sending the stop command.
    In order to execute this example, you have to specify the following command line arguments:
    -DService.Command={start/stop} //Either start or stop command

    I have fixed the handshake.
    And even though it isn't implemented yet, I think I have my solution for the limitation of 1 instance per user. I plan on using a hidden file in the user's home directory in which I will write the port number where the running application is listening for events. I have not yet chosen how the port number will be chosen before being written to the file but I am thinking about using a random number between 1024 and 65535. Using this approach, it is possible to maintain all the features I've implemented in the Single Overall Instance solution I already have.

    Here i am planing to create single instance standby for my 2-node RAC database.Here i am creating my single instance standby database on 1-node of my 2-node RAC DB.
    1.) Do i need to configure any separate listener for my single instance standby in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin in ORACLE user or need to change in Grid user login.

  • Creating a RAC standby database for a single instance database

    Dear All,
    I have a task of migrating a 500GB single instance database to a two-node RAC database with a little downtime at hand. My migration strategy is to:
    1) Create a RAC physical standby for the Single Instance database
    2) Switchover to RAC standby.
    Primary and Standby OS and DB configurations:
    OS: Windows Server EE 2003 (64-bit)
    DB: Oracle 10g Database Release 2 (10.2.0.4)
    Oracle 10g Clusterware Release 2 (10.2.0.4)
    To create a RAC standby, I will:
    a) Install Clusterware (10.2.0.1)
    b) Install Database (10.2.0.1)
    c) Patch both Clusterware and Database (10.2.0.4)
    d) Create ASM instance for both the nodes (+ASM1 & +ASM2)
    e) create standby controlfile on primary
    f) Move standby controlfile, RMAN backup of primary, pfile, listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, password file to standby host-1
    g) make necessary changes to the pfile on standby host-1 like cluster_database, instance_name, thread, ...
    h) mount standby database and restore backup
    Kindly validate my steps and if there already exists such a document then please do provide me with a link.

  • Why scan listener has only 1 instance registered ?

    i met this problem these days
    my environment RAC03 has 2 nodes : RAC03A and RAC03B
    using "lsnrctl services" checked the local listener, i found there are too many request established on RAC03A, but RAC03B has quite few request……

    the service has two instance registerd on RAC01, but RAC03 is not.
    i tried " alter system register " in two nodes, but it's no use at all :(
    how could i add the other instance on RAC03 registered in the scan_listener?

    i did what you said
    1) stop scan_listener and scan
    2) kill the listener_scan1 process on RAC03A
    3) start scan and scan_listener
    then i checked the status of scan_listener
    at first , the scan_listener on RAC03B still had 1 instance registered (the local instance),
    so i rebooted the OS(RAC03A)
    after that , it finally works!
    now the scan_listener on RAC03B has 2 instances registered(the local one and the remote one)

  • Add static entry for SCAN LISTENER

    Hey I am running a two node rac on grid 11.2 and db 11.2.0.3
    My application does not like the scan listener, therefore I have to configure the remote listener parameter to the vips of the two hosts, which is working fine.
    But it comes out the the system needs the service registered with the scan listener.
    So. How can I add a static service entry for my scan listener ?

    Hi,
    I don't understand why add static service name. Add static service name on listener is recommended only when you need connect remotely in a Inactive Instance and only to SYS user can connect or if you don't configured LOCAL and REMOTE Listener Parameter.
    So, If you configure LOCAL and REMOTE Listener proper the all SERVICE NAME configured on your database will be always automatically added on all Listeners, you don't need worry about in configure the service on Listeners Manually.
    With Oracle RAC you should not use the Parameter SERVICE_NAMES, you define Service Using EM or SRVCTL

  • Need help to create a login for maintenance of a single database in a multiple databases, single instance environment

    We are in the process of consolidating several databases on a single instance of SQL Server 2012.
    Databases are developed by outside vendors; they have to be able to install and support their databases but they shouldn't be able to do any thing with the other databases.
    When I tried to migrate the first database, the vendor told me that on the former server he used the sa account in some batch.

    it was suggested to me that I create a login for each vendor and that this login should map a user in their respective databases.
    To test, I simulated the process in a test database:

    I'm not sure why you would save the script. Why not create the login, in one way or another give the vendor the password. Keep the login disabled until needed.
    I don't recall exactly what we said last time, but it occurs to me that the application setup things on server level. Jobs is the prime thing that comes to mind, but there could be other things.
    Now, here is an important observation. As long as the vendor's application was alone on the server, that was OK, and it was OK to give the vendor sysadmin rights. In this situation this is less OK, and as we said, you should only give the vendor db_owner
    in the database.
    But the vendor will need to tell you what they do on server-level. They should know this - unless they sell their app as a "alone-on-a-server application". (And there are indeed such applications out there, even from Microsoft.) But there is a
    risk that they will bill you extra if you make their installation more difficult.
    Maybe you will have to give some vendors sysadmin for the installation, but in such case, you should ask them why they need it. If they don't, give them db_owner, and they will have to find out their hard way. (And you don't pay them for learning
    their own application.)

    I sometimes think differently. I also think like what this person is asking..(although I have installed and administering 5 different RAC databases)
    The main doubt of mine is that we create multiple instances accessing the same storage area.
    Anyway the controlfiles of all instances will have the same information except the instance_names and instance id's.
    Hence I always think , why can't it be possible to to create another instance in the same system and point it to a controlfile which is copied from the other instance.
    Why can't the same files be shared between the two instances in a same system ?
    I know I am thinking a little bit confusing...
    Anyway I need to test that also...

    I am running oracle database 11g and I want information regarding how to configure multiple listeners to listen for the same database instance. Actually I know how to configure more than one listener but the main thing that I am confused about is when we create listener.ora file, do we have to statically register the database instance with both the listeners or the instance will register itself with both the listeners.
    According to my knowledge the instance will register with the listener specified by LOCAL_LISTENER parameter and we cannot have more than one value for this parameter.
    Please only give detailed answers with example as I am tired of simple answers with details that I already know.

    Yes, it can make sense to have several listener for one Oracle instance. For instance you may have one listener for the applications another listener for DBA administration tasks as well as one listener dedicated to dataguard broker. It is not possible to have several listeners listening on the same IP and Port.
    By default the database try to automatically register to a listener on port 1521. To instruct the instance to register to a specifc list of listeners you can add in the init.ora the local_listener parameter with an alias definition:
    i.e
    local_listener=MY_SET_OFF_LISTENERS
    in your tnsname.ora add an entry called:
    MY_SET_OFF_LISTENERS_LOCAL= (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=myhostname)(PORT=1530))
    (ADRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=myhostname)(PORT=1531))
    (ADRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=myhostname)(PORT=1532))
    In this sample your instance will register to three listeners listening on respectively port 1530, 1531 and 1532
    If you want your clients can be balanced over the 3 listeners
