Scanning an Image via a form into a database

I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas on how a form could be implemented that interfaces with a scanner to aquire an image and then store that image in a database
Thanks
Jonathan Smith

its possible in Forms 5 and above with ActiveX control, the WangImage.Ocx can be used to scan the image and store the image into your ORACLE 7.x/8.X database.
all the properties,methods of Registred ActiveX available in procedures & packages, to get these procedures in forms use OLE Importer option and choose the required OCX.
with this u can easily program and control the Scanner.

    A colleague of me did it like this:
    * the scanner is connected to a network document server.
    * the document server sends(ftp) the image to the oracle XDB
    * a form shows the scanned documents(using a view on the ftp directory in XDB using path_view)
    * in this form the user can move the scanned document(s) to a (blob field) in a table.
    Hope this helps a bit...

  • Looking for a solution or service to export data from a dynamic form into a database

    As the title of this discussion states, I'm looking for a solution or service to export data from a dynamic form into a database to be used for reporting. Creating the dynamic form is not a problem, it's getting it into a database that's more of a nuisance. A dynamic form is needed in order to provide skip logic, hide/reveal, and other similar dynamic features.
    The database hasn't been created, so just looking for the easiest, more effective and dependable solution. The key is being able to run reports off the data later.

    So i set up 2 residential grade routers to test this out. Seems to be working okayish. I believe with directional antenae routers I should achieve what I need.
    As for security I configured each device separately. I set them so only allow the MAC address of the other through wireless. This seems to be the best system for me. Once they are connected even if a MAC is spoofed of the other router it drops automatically because they are always connected. My wired devices get plugged in and recieve an IP from my main network.
    There more testing to be done, but it seems to be working.
    Thanks for your input and suggestions guys. I will be marking this topic as answered.

  • Conserving filename with upload via portal form into blob type

    Hi
    I have a little question. Is there any chance to conserve a filename, which was uploaded into blob column via portal form and then create link for this file with the same name?
    null

    Vlasta,
    You certanly can save the original filename in your form, to do that you will need to add a FILENAME varchar2 column to your table and write a simple Javascript (search this forum for examples) to copy the fileselect value with onChange event. So, when you submit the form with your file the original name will be stored in you table.
    Thanks,
    Dmitry

  • How could I load image via a Form when it is in runtime by not using default block

    1. How could I load image from my local computer to the database via a Form when it is in runtime?
    2. And how to display the image stored in the database on a Form ?
    Thanks buddy ~
    A nice member answered this question already, but I want to know how could I do it by using manual create block instead of using database item directly~
    Could anyone help me pls~

    This is the only way I know right now:
    1) Create this table
    SQL> desc av_data
    Name Null? Type
    BLOB_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
    BLOB_TYPE NOT NULL VARCHAR2(10)
    DESCRIPTION NOT NULL VARCHAR2(25)
    BLOB_DATA LONG RAW
    2) On form create a button with this 'when-btn-prssed' tgr:
    DECLARE
         v_dirname          VARCHAR2(255);
         v_filename          VARCHAR2(255);
    BEGIN
         v_dirname := 'C:\';
         v_filename := get_file_name(v_dirname, NULL,
         'Bitmap file (*.bmp)|*.bmp|'                    ||
         'JPEG file (*.jpg)|*.jpg|'          );
         IF v_filename IS NOT NULL THEN
    read_image_file(v_filename, 'ANY',
    'av_data_image.blob_data');
         END IF;
    END;
    3) Add this pre-insert trigger too :
    :av_data_image.blob_type := 'IMAGE';
    Sorry if this is not exactly the answer you're looking for.

  • Interactive Images via Oracle Forms

    I have succesfully migrated to Oracle 10g and I would like to incorporate images interactively via Oracle Forms. I've considered accomplishing this task by way of using SVG, but I would like to know if Oracle has a product of its own? And has anyone successfully integrated this concept via Oracle forms?

    Hi Frank,
    SVG is a very nice thin client technologie and there are a lot of good open JavaScript libraries for it.
    I wish a JavaScript API to and from Forms applets to interact with this SVG graphics ..
    The new Oracle MapViewer generates also SVG maps.

  • Incorrect Image Size Insert/Download into/from Database

    We have used the Oracle Forms6i version 6.0.8.18.3 to add picture by using the
    statement:
    read_image_file(get_file_name,'JFIF','s_image.image');
    The database used is Oracle 9i version 9.0.3.0
    The original picture is a JPEG file which is with 10,484kB file system size.
    After inserting into the database via the Forms6i, the size in database is
    2,152,740 Bytes only! Then we download this picture from the database into the
    local hard disk of a machine with Forms 6i statement:
    write_image_file('output.jpg','JFIF','s_image.image');
    The file 'output.jpg' is with 1,958,603 Bytes!!!
    We then examine the two files and found that the resolution of the original
    picture is 305dpi but the one downloaded from database is just 72dpi!
    We have the following property for the image item 's_image':
    image format: JFIF
    image depth: original or RGB
    compression quality: none
    display quality: high
    sizing style: adjust
    Please advise how to fix this problem, we should maintain everything the same
    as the original picture when inserting into the database. Much thanks.

    it is that you use Oracle util,
    when you read image from local disk ,image is translated to Oralce Form Formats!!!
    so when you re-write image to local disk ,the size must be change.

  • Code for Scanning of signatures from uploaded form & uploading to database

    Hi
    what is the procedure for scanning of signatures from a uploaded signature form and uploading them to database

    The procedure is:
    Learn programming.
    Design program.
    Implement program.
    Test program.
    Deploy program.
    Some of step 1 can be found here: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/
    You mention databases, forms and uploads - so the JDBC, servlet and file I/O trails should be of particular interest to you.

  • Is there a link that demonstrates how to get the information from the forms into a database?

    I have set up a form for a client's web site and I don't want the client to have to deal with a vast quantity of emails each with the form entries. I want the information to go directly into my client's database and I didn't want to use Business Catalyst. Let me know which database program would be the best for them to use. Preferably Mac.

    Hi David,
    There is a similar thread live with us , you can follow the Database of Form Entries
    Hope that works

  • Problem in saving the image into SQL database..

    Hello,
    In my application I have to save image file (say jpg) into the database and retrieve back and display it on the applet. I am through with grabbing the pixels of the image & sending the pixel array to the servlet but I am struck in how to store the image into the database and retrieve the same.
    Can anybody please help me in this regard... its really urgent...
    Thanks in advance
    Swarna

    Hello.
    I've been researching this problem (saving images in a MySQL database) in order to accomplish a task I was assigned to. Finally I was able to do it. I'd be glad if it will be of any use.
    First of all: the original question was related to an applet. So, the post from rkippen should be read. It says almost everything, leaving the code job for us. Since I managed to write some code, I'll put it here, but I'm not dealing with the byte transferring issue.
    To obtain a byte array from a file I'd open the file with FileInputStream and use a loop to read bytes from it and save them into a ByteArrayOutputStream object. The ByteArrayOutputStream class has a method named toByteArray() which returns an array of bytes (byte [] b = baos.toByteArray()) that can be transferred in a socket connection, as said by rkippen.
    My problem was to save an image captured by a web camera. I had an Image object, which I converted into a byte array and saved into the database. Eventually I had to read the image and show it to the user.
    The table in the MySQL database could be:
    CREATE TABLE  test (
      id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
      img blob NOT NULL,
      PRIMARY KEY  (id)
    )I had problems trying to use the setBlob and getBlob methods in the Statement object, so I used the setBytes and getBytes methods . In the end, I liked these methods most because they where more suitable to my application.
    The database operations are:
        public int insertImage(Image image) throws SQLException {
            int id = -1;
            String sql = "insert into test (img) values (?)\n";
            PreparedStatement ps = this.getStatement(sql);  // this method is trivial
            byte [] bytes = this.getBytes(imagem); // * see below
            ps.setBytes(1, bytes);
            ps.executeUpdate();
            id = ps.getGeneratedKeys().getInt(0); //Actually I couldn't make this line work yet.
            return id;
        public Image selectImage(int id) throws SQLException {
            Image img = null;
            String sql = "select img from test where id = ?\n";
            PreparedStatement ps = getStatement(sql);
            ps.setInt(1, id);
            ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery();
            if (rs.next()) {
                byte [] bytes = rs.getBytes(1);
                img = this.getImage(bytes); // * see below
            return img;
        }* If the bytes are read directly from a file, I think it is not necessary to convert it into an Image. Just send the bytes to the database method would work. On the other hand, if the image read form the DB will be written directly into files, the bytes obtained from rs.getBytes(1) would be enough.
    The image operations are:
        public byte [] getBytes(Image image) {
            ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
            try {
                ImageIO.write(this.getBufferedImage(image), "JPEG", baos);
            } catch (IOException ex) {
                throw new RuntimeException(ex);
            return baos.toByteArray();
        public Image getImage(byte [] bytes)  {
            Image image = null;
            ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(bytes);
            try {
                image = ImageIO.read(bais);
            } catch (IOException ex) {
                throw new RuntimeException(ex);
            return image;
        public BufferedImage getBufferedImage(Image image) {
            int width = image.getWidth(null);
            int height = image.getHeight(null);
            BufferedImage bi = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
            Graphics2D g2d = bi.createGraphics();
            g2d.drawImage(image, 0, 0, null);
            return bi;
        }That's it. I hope it is useful.

    Form mail scripts send form contents via email. It sounds
    like you want to just insert data from the form into a database.
    Just use the build in DW Insert Record behavior.

  • Saving forms in the database

    Is it possible to save an Oracle Form in the database? I have some forms thah require checking to see if they access various tables. I'd like to load the forms into the database and query the forms metadata, but not being a forms person I'm not sure if this is possible.
    Any information would be helpful.
    Many Thanks

    Can you save Form modules (FMB, MMB, PLL) into the database?
    Yes and no. Yes if its standalone and no if its part of Apps, this is because Apps forms are structured so that their dependent modules are all stored as files. In Forms 9i (not yet released) you will not be able to store Forms modules in the database altogether.

  • Display image from external resource into interactive form

    Hi experts!
    How can I display an image from a external url, for example "http://www.adobe.com/imageshome/pdfgift_home.gif" ??
    I tried to do that:
    1. Insert a "Image field"
    2. Bind None
    3. Embed image data: unselected
    4. URL: $record.url
        In "url" it's a context's variable. It's type is string. I save in url: http://www.adobe.com/imageshome/pdfgift_home.gif
    4. Show: initialize
        Script: this.value.image.href = xfa.resolveNode(this.value.image.href).value;
        Language: JavaScript
        Run at: Client
    I can't save image into mimes' folder. It's a bussiness rule in my company.
    Thanks
    Gustavo Rodriguez

    have you tried directly linking it to the image this way? instead of passing through the context to make sure you can access the image?
    I just inserted an image on my form.
    Bind none
    Embed unchecked
    URL http://www.adobe.com/imageshome/pdfgift_home.gif

  • How do i convert my scanned jpg images into word

    How do i convert my scanned jpg images into word

    No, Acrobat Pro is expensive
    95% of all the professional scanned in books are in PDF, the entire structure and countless years of work have gone into Acrobat being not just the "best" standard for scanned books, but really the ONLY standard for them.
    Yes, many many little programs can convert to PDF after you have them in a file, or even from Safari you can "print as PDF" or "save as PDF"
    however it just saves them as PDF, and you can use Acrobat READER for free,....
    but Reader is just that, a reader, you cannot do pro editing, scale down the file size etc etc, signatures, portfolios etc.
    Ive got a 42 Terabyte collection of PDF books,.....Ive spent too much time staring at PDF books   LoL.

  • Show image item from table into form's item.

    Hi Friends,
    My problem is:
    I have 1 table with 2 cols:
    eid number
    e_pict blob.
    I created a form (block based on this table). I'm able to show any valid image file stored in disk into e_pict (declared as image item) using the built_in READ_IMAGE_FILE. and also able to save it in the table test. But if I want to do the reverse process I mean retrieve the image from table's field to the image item of form, it creates problem. I even cannot compile the post_text_item trigger of eid:
    select e_pict into :test.e_pict
    from test
    where rtrim(eid)=rtrim(:eid);
    It is giving error:
    bad bind variable 'test.e_pict'
    Pls help me.
    Regards,
    Pragati.

    If I declare the image field as long raw instead of blob then also the same problem.
    I can save the image from file to database through a form but cannot retrieve an image from database to form.
    Pls help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pragati.
