SCCM 2012 SQL DB Migration

Hi
Can someone advice me if I can move my SCCM 2012 R2 SQL Databases (1 CAS and 2 Primary Site Server DB's) having version SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2012?
As per this blog, looks like we can....Do I need to take any additional checks?

It can be done.  I'd try it in a lab first though.

  • SCCM 2012 SQL database error while installation.

    Hi,
I'm trying to install SCCM 2012 R2 in a test Lab. While completing installation I'm getting an error message "setup has encountered fatal errors during database initialization. check the log for details. click the view log button for more information"
and installation finishes successfully. I'm using SQL server 2008 R2 with CU6 installed. SCCM Prerequisite checker shows only SQL memory and WSUS package warnings. Still I'm able to finish installation but not able connect SCCM. I'm installing Primary site.
My system is running on Win 2k8 R2 SP1.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Dhananjay

In my experience you can get strange problems if you extract the ISO to a folder and run the setup from there (that seems to be what you have done).
Try mounting the ISO directly and I believe you will have better success. You are using W2008R2 so you will need a 3rd party app (Virtual CloneDrive is a good one).
(Obviously if this is a VM you can just add the ISO to the DVD drive)

I have installed SQL Server 2012.
Now Where Ican find the commulative update to install.....???
    Please Help....

Have you installed SCCM 2012 R2 (CU3) or SCCM 2012 SP1? Then you would requires SQL 2012 CU2 (minimum) more details

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 migrated DP shows package status "unknown"

I have a SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 environment and have shared SCCM 2007 distribution points.
Today I migrated one of the DP's which seems to work well.
However all my packages shows now the status "unknown" for this migrated DP.
This is a problem which should be fixed in CU4 according to the CU4 description. But it is not :-(
Any idea how to solve this ? R2 install ?

    Some additional information:
I noticed that the package sources are still available at the "old" ditribution point share abd not on the new sccm 2012 distribution point share. When performing actions described in step 3 below the package becomes available on the distribution point
share......then i guess i can remove the content from the "old" distribution point share ????
I noticed that when a package got the status "unknown" for de migrated DP the following action fix the problem:
--> i remove the DP from the package and immediately add it again, the package status becomes "Successful".....hummm....ok....maybe a script could be created for this
I noticed that when a package got the status "unknown" and the package is also located on the "distribution point share" then following will fix the issue:
--> edit the package and remove the migrated DP and remove the checkbox for string on the distribution point share. Then add the DP again, click Apply and then set the checkbox for storing on the distribution point share and Apply again. Then wait and package
will become available Successful and the package will become available on the distribution point share
But i have 800 packages and 50 to be migrated DP's.....this is not a solution....but what is ????
Any help, ideas, tips, hints, recommendations ?
My overal thoughts are that migrating of a SCCM 2007 DP is not really working at all !!!!!
Or does someone has other experience with e.g. R2 installed ? If so then I will upgrade first...

  • SCCM 2012 & SQL Cluster

    Hello..
My Colleague and I are involved in implementing SCCM 2012 for a client and having a question on what would be the best practice (Microsoft Recommendation) for having DB for SCCM 2012 specifically, please note it is for 2012 and not for 2007. And, if
we are going to install SQL 2012 on the same box as SCCM 2012 is going to be installed,
    1. Would it incur additional licensing cost for SQL 2012 (am asking as I read somewhere as long as the DB used just for CM, additional cost wouldn't be there)
    2. What difference does it make to have the DB on cluster and on the local Primary Site box
    3. If we gonna have DB in the Primary site box, what would happen if something goes wrong with this box (we just gonna have only one Primary site as per our design), and what happens until we bring this box functioning through Backup & Recovery (basically
it is going to be VM Snapshot recovery)
    4. And finally, can we have the CM databases (one for CM & another for WSUS) on any existing instance (Production) which is running for Business critical applications? - Because, this we have to convince the App/DB owners of that particular instance
that we gonna share for SCCM.
And any additional steps related to DB considerations for SCCM that I missed to mention above can also be answered..
    Thanks, V@s!m

    Hi,
1, No as long as you use SQL Standard Edition and only use it for System Center 2012 Databases.
2, Cluster gives you higher availability than if you have it locally on the SCCM server but it is much more complex to manage, you will need additional SMS providers and so on to provide High-availability.
3, If you have it on the same box you can do nothing if it goes down, but it still requires you to have all other roles on different servers as well. Note using VM snapshop recovery is not supported and should not be used as other site systems will not now
what has happended when you restore it.
4, You could but I always recommend not to do it, as service pack upgrades, SQL CU, collation e.t.c must match and you will have even more dependencies when you do upgrades e.t.c
Using a Local SQL on the primaryn site server at least for implementations less than 50'000 clients is recommended, you will get better console performance, if you go for a cluster make sure the Network speed between the Primary Site and the SQL is as good
as it can be preferably the same switch.

  • SCCM 2012 Secondary Site Migration

we have to migrate more then 50 Secondary Site to SCCM 2012 Secondary Site. Since we have to low-bandwidth connection for the remote site we prefer to go with SCCM 2012 Secondary site inside of DP.
I know we can migrate SCCM 2007 Secondary to SCCM 2012 DP and SCCM 2007 DP to SCCM 2012 DP.
But is there a way i can move the distribution point package from SCCM 2007 Secondary to SCCM 2012 Secondary Site?
when i try to migrate migrate SCCM 2007 Secondary Site DP to SCCM Secondary Site 2012, it uninstall the 2007 Secondary site and upgrade the DP to SCCM 2012 under the 2012 Secondary site.
But my requirement is to move the old SCCM 2007 secondary site package to SCCM 2012 Secondary site DP, is there any tool to manage this activity?
or what is the best practice to do this migration.

    Hi,
You could use prestage content in SCCM 2012 to send packages to remote DP.

"Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation".
I have a SQL 2012 SP1 Ent  Cluster (2 nodes, Windows Server 2012), the installation account is local administrator in both nodes, and sysadmin in SQL Instance. Firewall Service is disable in all servers.
I tested connecting remote WMI from Primary Site Server to both SQL Server Nodes and the conectionn was succesfully. I created a udl file to test SQL conection and also was succesfully.
    I'm not using CAS.
    Any Help?
    Thanks.

  • SCCM 2012 EndPoint Protection migration

I have the old ConfigMgr 2012 name " BACKOFFICE" it is currently managing all the EndPoint Protection for all workstations/servers.
I now have new ConfigMgr 2012 called "SCCM"  I just installed ForeFront EndPoint Protection and configured the Custom Client Deviec EndPoint Protection to roll out to workstations. What is the best practice to remove old ForeFront EndPoint
Protection client from old site name and install new one?
    1. Do I have to manually uninstall EndPoint Client in control panel for each computer? or is there a way to just uninstall for all computers using the old COnfigMgr 2012 "BACKOFFICE"
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi !
You have to reassign the desired clients.
    It can be scripted:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc146558.aspx
Otherwise, you could install again the client on your targets, with the following options: force install and site assignement.
You can refer to this link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712298.aspx
    Hope this helps.

  • SCCM 2012 SQL License

I have read a post about SQL Licensing however wanted to confirm. Based on thie
forum, Gareth Jones mentioned that SQL licenses are not required for CM 2012 and it is included in the product package itself.
Question is: If I have 1 CAS site and 5 Primary Sites, each with dedicated SQL DB Servers (SQL 2008 R2 Standard) - Does that mean that the SQL Server licenses on the 5 DB Servers dont require a separate SQL license? I know that
we dont need separate license for Primary Sites or Central Administration Site - only license for Managed End Points.
Regards, Vik Singh "If this thread answered your question, please click on "Mark as Answer"

Garth is right. SQL Std licenses are included as far as I know. Keep in mind that you need SQL Ent on the CAS if you're going to manage >50k clients.
Just out of curiosity: 1 CAS and 5 primaries? How many clients will you manage in total?

  • MOF file migration from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012

    Hi,
I have an issue while migrating SCCM 2007 MOF (Configuration.mof) to SCCM 2012,Problem is...
In our infrastructure, We have integrated our custom inventory classes with the logon script. Now we are migrating to SCCM 2012.When i migrate the same Custom inventory classes to SCCM 2012,I can able to compile/migrate, However SCCM 2012 views are not in
    sync with SCCM 2007.
Example: If i use SCCM 2007 collection/Query in SCCM 2012 that uses these custom inventory classes, its thrown an error saying that objects in this query are not valid, because of this none of the collections/Queries that uses old inventory classes are not
    working.
I dont want to change anything in the logon script...
Can someone please help me on this. Thanks in advance..

    Hi Garth,
    Thanks for the reply.
As per my understand, there's nothing to do with SMS_DEF.mof and only Configuration.mof can be editable.

  • SCCM 2012 Client Repository Currupted

Which repository are you talking about? WMI? How did you determine that there's a problem at all?
