Schedule Script to Run without Job Agent

We do not have Job Agent available but need an event to trigger on a schedule. I did find a posting in here, which kind've shows how to do it. The syntax is below.
WHILE 1 = 1
BEGIN
WAITFOR DELAY '00:30:00';
EXEC sp_dbhelp;
END
My question is what would you save the above as, so it would know to execute the stored procedure every 30 minutes? I do not want to this from Windows Scheduler. Any assistance would be appreciated.

If you were asking this question on SQL EXPRESS forums, then you probably get a simple solution.
SQL Server EXPRESS do not have an Agent and My prefer solution for jobs is using SERVICE BROKER for that :-)
This solution might fit your needs as well.
Check this link (I did not read it all but it look like it give this solusion):

  • How to schedule script to automate backup of CAS/CAM

    Hi Team,
I want to configure automate backup of CAS/CAM Device on any free server available in network.
Is there any script or setting we can configure on these devices

    Hi Amir,
You can take the Create SSAS database XMLA script and run the job to create the cube. The script contains the Metadata definition of the Database and it does not contain the actual data.
Pros: Since you are only creating an empty cube the script will run faster
Cons: You still need to process the created cube to use it for reports.
Fastest option is to take the backup of the cube and restore wherever necessary.
And you can also use TFS source control to deploy the cube and process it later.

  • SSIS Package will only run as SQL Agent Job when I have remote desktop to server open.

Hey guys, so I have another problem to add to the already massive 'SSIS/SQL Server Agent Job' pile. After days of searching, I can't seem to find anything specific to my problem though.
The setup is as follows: a SSIS package that refreshes and saves excel files that are hosted on a server. The package runs fine on the local machine, using BIDS on the server, and will even work as a SQL Agent Job on the server IF there is a remote
desktop connection to the server. To elaborate, if I simply run the job as you would normally do it will fail and give the below error. If I run the job while either myself, or a different machine, has a remote desktop connection to the server where the
job is scheduled - it will run successfully.
Below is the error from the History File of the job. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    UPDATE:
In my previous post the Identity in DCOM Config file for Microsoft Excel was set as The Interactive User. The job was working only when I had a remote connection to the server open.
If I set the Identity to 'This User' and use the username and password of the server login account, it will work as a scheduled job without needing an open remote connection to the server. So it works, great! but I have reservations setting this
for all instances of Excel for the server. I'm sure other users have different accounts they use for running Excel. Any suggestions around this?

    Hi LiamSexton,
It should be the server-side Automation of Office issue described in the following KB article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257757
Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office may exhibit
unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment.
User Identity: Office applications assume a user identity when the applications are run, even when Automation starts the applications. The applications try to initialize toolbars, menus, options, printers, and some add-ins based on settings in the user
registry hive for the user who launches the application. Many services run under accounts that have no user profiles (such as the SYSTEM account or the IWAM_[servername] accounts). Therefore, Office may not initialize correctly on startup. In this situation,
Office returns an error on the CreateObject function or the CoCreateInstance function. Even if the Office application can be started, other functions may not work correctly if no user profile exists.
To work around the issue, you can refer to the following alternative introduced in the article:
Most server-side Automation tasks involve document creation or editing. Office 2007 supports new Open XML file formats that let developers create, edit, read, and transform file content on the server side. These file formats use the System.IO.Package.IO
namespace in the Microsoft .NET 3.x Framework to edit Office files without using the Office client applications themselves. This is the recommended and supported method for handling changes to Office files from a service.

  • How do you register an agent of on 11.2 DB to run remote jobs on another ?

There are examples available showing how to install a remote agent on a host that doesnt have an Oracle database (using the gateway CD in 11.1 or the Oracle Client in 11.2) and from reading the documentation, it suggests you only need to install the remote agent if there is not an Oracle database on the host. If I have two Oracle databases and want to run remote jobs from DBMS_SCHEDULER on host A against data on host B, how can i register the agent as i cant find any examples that do this.
With the remote agent installed, there are schagent either in unix or windows but i cant find this in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin of an 11.2 Enterprise install. I've run the prvtrsch.sql script as SYS and it's created the REMOTE_SCHEDULER_AGENT user and objects (which i think might be the equivalent of running schagent on the remote client) but then when i want to register the agent on the calling Oracle database, i dont know what the agent name is to specify in the CREATE_SCHEDULER_DESTINATION call.
I've added the TNS entries for both directions but just dont have enough information to find the missing bit that lets me connect them.
Any help appreciated, or just some pointer to know if I am in the right direction would be great
    Thanks

    Hi Ronald
I have your book which has been very useful in other areas I have been investigating on DBMS_SCHEDULER ( I certainly recommend it to anyone doing any serious work on DBMS_SCHEDULER) but it's not in there either - I've read the chapter ''Getting out of the database' several times and whilst it goes into great detail on how to install the remote agent on a machine without a database, I could only find a brief mention of running an agent in the database starting on page 113 where it talks about 'preparing the database for remote agent usage'.
I've done these things on the second database but the later part of the chapter is back to running jobs on a machine without Oracle installed and use of schagent which doesn't exist in in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin on a machine that has Oracle installed so I am stuck on how to proceed.
You also mention the enhancement request so would be interested to know what happened with this ?
The first thing that comes to my mind when a registration has been done is: "How
can I check this?" Unfortunately, there appears to be no way to check the status of the
agent's registration—not even in the database. It would be very convenient to have
an Oracle view that gives an oversight of which agents are talking with the database.
I filed an enhancement request (7462577) for this. So with a little luck, we can check
the status of remote agents in the near future.
I figure if I have the name of the agent, I can use it in the CREATE_DATABASE_DESTINATION call on my calling database but I cant find the name anywhere. In SQL Developer on the SQL table of create destination, it shows this as being SYS."" and inserts whatever you select from a dropdown list but I don't know how to get any values into the dropdown so possibly the registration wasn't complete but it has created the database objects in the schema and I got no errors when running it.
Any advise on how to proceed welcome and perhaps it can be added as an addition to the next version of the book.
    Regards

  • SQL Agent job running DTS package running in SQL 2005 is unable to run if job onwer is not logged onto server

I am currently working on a SQL Server upgrade project for a a client where I am converting old dts packages to SSIS. However for a few of the packages no conversion is allowed to be done. For these few packages I have to use dts legacy components in SQL
2005 on a windows 2003 server to run them.
These packages use CAPICOM via an Active X script in the package to envelope connection string data for security within the package. Consequently I have to register the capicom.dll for the job owner (which will execute the job via proxy) and install private
and public key files via internet explorer. I also do this when I am logged in with my account so i can test the package.
I have created a SQL Server Agent Job which is used to execute the package. We have a schedule account which is local admin on the server and sysadmin within SQL Server. This account is used to create a credential and then a proxy for the CmdExec subsystem
is then created based on this credential. A CmdExec job step is then added to the job. The directory of  cmd file which calls the dts package is then entered in the command window.
Finally a recurring schedule is added to execute the job every 5 minutes.
If i am logged in to the server using the scheduled account the schedule runs successfully. I am also able to run the command file manually by double clicking on it. The DTS package is run successfully. However once the schedule is set up and I log off the
machine and log onto my development machine with my normal account and fire up  SQL Server. I connect to that instance with the schedule and see that the job is failing with and Active X error in the package. From experience with this package this Active
X  error occurs when the user executing the package has not registered the capicom.dll. This has already been done for the scheduler account because the job runs when the scheduler account is logged in on the server.
It almost seems as though the job will only run if the Scheduler account is logged on. If i log directly on to the server with own user account I am able to manually execute the package via the cmd file which indicates that the capciom.dll is registered
under my account. Yet if I try an run the job in SQL Server when I am logged in under my account (using the scheduler account proxy) then the job fails.
Does anybody have any idea why this may be happening? Any ideas would be much appreciated

Run the job SSIS step under a proxy account that is derived from the domain account, non-expiring password and has been set to have all the necessary rights.

  • Anyone running ArcGIS arcpy Python scripts using Oracle 11g EM AGENT?

I have a Windows command file that successfully executes an ArcGIS arcpy Python script when run manually or via Task Scheduler . But when executed by the EM Agent, arcpy doesn't recognize the SDE connection string file as a workspace for connecting to the geodatabase. The manual execution on the server uses the same login as the EM Agent.
I have verified all the environment variables for the EM Agent are the same as those for running natively on the server. I then used arcpy to describe the file type using both execution methods.
    DescribeFile.py
    import os
    import sys
    import arcpy
    desc arcpy.Describe("D:\\Test\\Compress\\database_login.sde")
    print desc.dataElementType
    Manual output of: python.exe DescribeFile.py >> DEWorkspace
EM Agent output of: python.exe DescribeFile.py >> DEFile
I have little experience with Python, but years of experience with the EM Agent. I have been unable to find anything related that was helpful on Oracle Support, ESRI support, or general internet searches.

I am a non arcpy user but should it not be desc =
    Or is it a typo?
And maybe try using / instead of \\

  • Scheduling a Powershell script as a batch job

I need to run a PowerShell script as a batch job to be executed every 5 minutes on a Windows Server 2012 R2 server.
I want to use a scheduled task.
I read on the web different ways to solve the problem but I was unable to make them work.
What is the simplest way to run a PowerShell file as a scheduled job?
    Regards
    Mario

    Hi Mario,
The quickest method is to write your script and save it on the server. Then create a new scheduled task like so:
    Actions -
    Start a program
    Program/script : C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe
    Add arguments : -File C:\path\to\script.ps1
That's all you need to do for simple scripts (make sure your execution policy is set right too).

    Hi ,
I have a powershell script from Dieters blog http://scug.be/dieter/2011/07/06/scom-2007-how-to-backup-your-unsealed-management-packs/#comment-1058 which backups the unsealed management packs in SCOM. I am able to run the script successfully in the powershell
prompt but when i schedule it as a task it fails with an error code 1.
"Task Scheduler successfully completed task "\Backup Unsealed Management Pack" , instance "{xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}" , action "Powershell.exe" with return
    code 1."
I am running the task using the highest privilages and have tried bypassing the script using and have configured the script as per http://www.metalogix.com/help/Content%20Matrix%20Console/SharePoint%20Edition/002_HowTo/004_SharePointActions/012_SchedulingPowerShell.htm
    -ExecutionPolicy Bypass c:\scripts\myscript.ps1
Still i am unable to run the task without errors. Kindly assist.
    Jesty

    Hi Jesty,
Please make sure you have followed these steps to schedule a powershell script task:
    1.  Save the powershell script as .ps1 in local computer.
    2.  Right click the .ps1 file and run with powershell and check if the script can run successfully.
    3.  schedule task->action:Start a program->Program/script:powershell.exe->Add argument:-ExecutionPolicy Bypass c:\scripts\myscript.ps1

  • Need to run the JOB without Ineractive Screen

    Dear All,
We have written a new ABAP program for executing the Macro background Job and used JOB_OPEN,JOB_SUBMIT and JOB_CLOSE Function Modules to run the JOB from ABAP Program.  We are able to run the JOB successfully for Any other ABAP Programs through the custom program, but when I tried with the same approach to run the Macro job through my new ABAP Program the JOB is throwing an error.
    Error Message is like below
    Job started
Step 001 started (program /SAPAPO/TS_BATCH_JOB, variant TEST, user ID GKMN3511
    Specify a start time
Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE
    Point of doubts:
-- Can we really execute the Macro job through the ABAP program with out any dialogue screen (because when I use the "/SAPAPO/MC8G - Schedule Demand Planning in the Backgroundu201D program in my custom program it pop-ups a interactive screen which I don't want in my ABAP program while scheduling the macro job)
    Regards,
    Raju

In transaction /sapapo/mc8t --> define the activity that looks at the macro in question
In transaction /sapapo/ mc8d --> define the job that looks at that activity and a selection iD/aggregation level
In transaction /sapapo/ts_batch_run --> save a variant pointing to the job defined in mc8d
you can then run the /sapapo/ts_batch_run job with that variant

You can use lauchd to run the script.
Here's an example of an Automator App that I have scheduled to run at 7am daily:
You would save this as com.yourname.plist and put it the the Folder: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ (then log out and back in, or reboot)

  • Is it possible to run Posture using ISE 1.2 without NAC Agent provisioning?

Is it possible to run Posture using ISE 1.2 without NAC Agent provisioning?
-My customer does not want to push NAC Agent installation on BYOD type of computers (non-managed by the company computers).
-The requirement is to check for posture only company owned wired, wireless, and VPN connected Windows computers. The rest of the endpoints should be considered as posture incompliant, and limited access to the network should be allowed.
    -No certificates are used.
-I’ve configured the required posture check, and it all works fine if a PC has NAC Agent manually installed (without ISE Client Provisioning). However, when I use a PC without NAC Agent, it is redirected to Client Provisioning Portal and is stuck there as Client Provisioning is deliberately not configured in ISE.
-If I remove Posture Remediation Authorization Profile that does URL redirect, the posture does not work.
-For now I'm testing it on wired endpoints.
Is there a way to configure ISE to fulfill the listed above requirements?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Val Rodionov

Everyone who finds reads this article,
I'm answering my own quesiton "Is it possible to run Posture using ISE 1.2 without NAC Agent provisioning?"
    The answer is Yes.
After doing research and configuration testing I came up with a solution, and it works fine for wired and VPN connections. I expect it to work on wireless endpoints as well.
    ISE configuration:
Posture General Settings - Default Posture Status = NonCompliant
Client Provisioning Policy - no rules defined
Posture Policy - configured per requirements
Client Provisioning (under Administration > Settings) - Enable Provisioning = Enable (it was disabled in my first test)
Authorization Policies configured as regular posture policies
    The result:
After successful dot1x authentication posture redirect happens. If the PC does not have NAC Agent preinstalled, the browser is redirected to Client Provisioning Portal and a default ISE message is displayed (ISE is not able to apply and access policy... wait one minute and try to connect again...). At the same time, the endpoint is assigned NonCompliant posture status and proper authorization policy is applied. This is what I wanted to achieve.
If NAC Agent was preinstalled on the PC, after successful dot1x authentication the NAC Agent pops up and performs posture check. If posture is successful, posture compliant authorization policy is applied. If posture check fails, NonCompliant posture status is assigned and posture non-compliant authorization policy is applied. Which is the expected and needed result.
The only part that is not perfect it the message displayed to the end-user when posture is about to fail. I did not find a place to change the text of that message. I might need to open TAC case, so this file can be manually found and edited from CLI (root access).
    Best,
    Val Rodionov

  • Credential problem while running with SQL job agent

    Hi,
SQL job agent fails to run when I change my computer login (Password) credentials information often.
How I can run the SQL job agent with Database login credentials.
    Regards
    Venkatesh S

    Hi Venkatesh,
If I understand correctly, you are using a proxy account has your login credential to run a step of SQL Agent Job. So when you change the login’s password, the credential of the proxy account has an expired password, then the proxy account doesn’t work in
    your job.
As per my understanding, we can only use SQL Server Agent Service Account or Proxy Account to run the SQL Server Integration Services Package steps in SQL Agent Job. Since the SQL Server Agent Service Account may not have required permissions to access the
resources in the packages, we recommend use Proxy Account. To create Proxy Account, we should create a credential first. To create a credential, we should specify a Windows user account. So we cannot use a SQL Server authentication login to run the job.
A good workaround is use a windows user account with a password that never expire or changes rarely or update the password of credential followed by your login.
