Scheduling alternative to Timer

Hi,
I have a server instance which runs on JVM 1.2. I can't upgarde it to JVM 1.3 and above too. So I cannot implement scheduling using the Timer class.
What are the other options I have to implement a scheduling task in java . Let say i want to print "Hello JAVA" every day.
Thanks
jigo

Let say i want to print "Hello JAVA" every day.
new Thread() {
    public void run() {
        while (true) {
            try {
                // The "24" here is really "24L" to avoid overflow. The forum
                // software in its infinite wisdom clips off the "L".
                Thread.sleep(24L * 60 * 60 * 1000);
                System.out.println("rhubarb");
            } catch (Throwable e) {
                ...log the exception...
}.start();If you need to do it at e.g. midnight: calculate the time until the next midnight and sleep that amount. Oh, what the heck:
    public static void sleepModulo(long milliseconds, long minimum_sleep)
        long now = System.currentTimeMillis();
        long then = now / milliseconds * milliseconds + milliseconds;
        long sleep = then - now;
        if (sleep < minimum_sleep)
            sleep += milliseconds;
        if (sleep == 0)
            return;
        try {
            Thread.sleep(sleep);
        } catch (InterruptedException e) {
            // ignore
    }Your operating system might not like if you start hundreds of threads. So if you have hundreds of tasks you may want to write a Timer class yourself. Or google, someone has probably done one already. If you just have a few tasks you can use individual threads.

  • Delivery cost in scheduling agreement having time dependent condition

    Hi experts,
    We have one peculiar requirement.
    We have palnt at indonesia.  We are doing import there from india.
    Our requirement is as follows.
    1. We should use scheduling agreement with time dependent conditions.  Because we want to track the price changes and sometimes we want to retro pricing effect and revaluate it.
    2. We want to add importers vat and import tax.
    3. But those tax amount should not get added into inventory
    4. During MIRO it should get accounted to vendor.
    We could succeed this by removing "Time dependend condition" check in document type config.
    But our client is definitely required the point no 1.
    But when we activate time dependent condition check, during MIRO those conditions are not appearing.  But if you remove that check, it is appearing in MIRO accounting.
    Can any one suggest suitable solution?
    Or SAP MIRO will not permit this scenario?
    regards,
    K.Sundaresan.

    delivery cost will not work if u remove the tick Time dependend condition for SA
    SAP MIRO will not permit this scenario
    so u will have to decide what is more important to u and act accordingly
    Solution will be u ask client what is mor imp for there company
    as SAP will not support MIRO for deliver for time dependent condition
    I had a talk with SAP on this and they have told that
    SAP will not support MIRO for deliver for time dependent condition
    AS in Case of imports in india we need to do MIRO before GR
    hope this hel;sp

    If the backups are much larger than they ought to be,  see #D4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

    Hi,
    Basic scheduling :

    2.Exact to day.
    3.No cap reqmts are generated.
    4.uses the inhouse production time from material master.
    5.carried out automatically during planning run.
    In basic date calculation ( order start date/ order finish date ) the system always
    calculates backward scheduling.
    1. From the reqmts date the system subtracts the GR processing time to
    calculate the order fininsh date.
    2. From the order finish date the system subtracts the inhouse production time to calculate the order start date.
    3. From the order start date the system subtracts the opening period given in scheduling margin key to calculate the order opening date.
    Lead time scheduling :
    1.Exact to second
    2.ie production start date /time and finish date and time are calculated.
    3. cap reqmts are generated.
    4. uses times from routing.
    5. carried out only if the scheduling mode in MD02 screen is kept with indicator 2.
    From the order finish date the system subtracts the float after production to calculate the production finish date.
    From the production finish date the individual operations in the routing are scheduled backwards to calculate production start date.

  • Lead time scheduling Vs Takt time scheduling

    Hi Experts, we are planning to implement sap in one of our plants..below is our business structure for your understanding..
    OEM - Mini bus Manufacturer which is the customer
    Bus seat manufacturer - Our plant (we already have sap here) - we already have sap repetitive here
    bus seat components manufacture - our plant (we are planning implement sap here)
    based on bus seat forecast the component plant will drive their production and will be send it to assembly plant which is seat manufacture.
    I have two questions
    1. what should we do in our component plant discrete orders or repetitive? I know you cannot tell me without seeing the plant but that my question. what questions should be ask our business to make this decision? how do anyone make the decision of going either repetitive or discrete? pleade do not point out the link to rep vs dis.. I have already those but I need something more in detail..
    2. I was reading a lot of help.sap.com and I have a question on below statement
    Basically, you can use two different types of scheduling:
    Sequencing with takt-based/rate-based scheduling
    The system schedules the planned orders using the number of takts and the takt times/rates of the line hierarchy. You define the line hierarchy in Line Design. In this type of scheduling, the system does not create any capacity requirements and only schedules the main lines. The system does not schedule the feeder lines.
    Lead time scheduling
    In lead time scheduling, the system creates capacity requirements and also schedules the feeder lines. The system uses the operations from the rate routing or the standard routing for lead time scheduling.
    what does lead time schuling will also do feeder line scheduling and take based does not schedule feeder lines means? can some explain with an example?
    Thx

    Well if you pay your bill the calls would not happen.
    You need only tell them not to call you during working time.
    The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act states you must tell them it is not convenient.
    Now if marketing calls you can opt out at the Verizon web portal under your My Verizon account.
    You will not get compensation for them to call you. Nice try.
    However they could just shut your phone off and then you will call them.
    Email is not an option.

  • Job with Multiple Schedule of same time & only one is executed, Why

    Hi ALL,
    I've Created a package to notify report in email  as excel, which is using a path to render report and save it as excel.
    This package was need to be schedule every first day of month and on every Friday even at morning 7 AM.
    So logically these are two events.
    But if we see on 1 May 2015 we have Friday and plus first day of month
    So technically this should fail.
    either for IO operation for render &
    storing data over same location with same file name.
    To replicate this i created two three schedule
    Below is the job history, job is invoked by only one schedule
    Question-
    1) Why one one schedule execute?
    2) why "sched2" only , it could be "sched3" only or "DentalOperationStackAndRank-Sched1" Only?
    Another this i result into error if different job executing same package at same schedule.
    FYI- package is deployed at database level
    HS

    Hi HS,
    As described in this
    article, more than one job can run on the same schedule, and more than one schedule can apply to the same job.
    And I make a test about your scenario, when configuring a SQL Server job with three schedules that reference same dates and times, my job behaves as yours that only one schedule is executed, but the job is invoked by schedule2 or schedule 3 in my environment.
    It is a normal behavior of SQL Server job in my opinion. For more details about such scenario, you can track the job following this
    blog.
    However, when I configure three jobs that run on the same schedule, everything works well and the three jobs all run successfully.
     I recommend you configure three different jobs that execute same package at same schedule .

  • How to fix an error  (related to work schedule rule) in Time evaluation ?

    Hi experts,
    I am getting an error while running time evaluation - PT60.

    How to fix it? Its urgent.
    Be assured of points for useful answers.
    Rajesh

    Hi All,
    I have checked work schedules and work sc. rules. everything looks fine. Reason being fine, same work schrdule rule, i.e. 5MTWTF is used for other employees, whose payroll area, personnel area, personnel subarea, employee group and employee subgroups are same.
    Why it is throwing error for one employee 753402.
    I am providing you more information. In table V_T569r, if u select recalculation category as time evaluation, it is mentioned as 01.01.2003. Initially, one action called "Conversion take on" has been maintained as on 01.03.2002, where employee had payroll area -99 (payroll irrelevant) and personnel subarea - DAYY.
    Then on 17.03.2008, another action ran "Conversion initial reassignment" where payroll area changed to "MT - monthly", subarea changed to DAYF. At that time PDC recalculation date in infotype 0003 was 01.03.2002 which was before recalculation date, i.e. 01.01.2003.
    Time evaluation was throwing 2 error messages. one was solved by changing PDC recaluation date to 17.03.2008. But other error related to work sc rule 1 VM 01 5MTWTF still occurs.
    Can some body now provide some useful information?
    Thanks

  • Scheduled report - Event (time limitation ?)

    Hello,
    I was wondering how many time will a scheduled report wait for an event (file).
    For example :
    A report is scheduled on december 27th 9:00am and waits for an event (file).
    If the file arrives on december 29th, will the report be refreshed ? or is it too late ?
    Thank you.

    thanks for the reply
    It's a monthly frequency...
    considering what you said, it means that the report will be refreshed if the file arrive within this month even if it's scheduled on a specific day of every month, right ?

  • Scheduling Agreement & Planning Time Fence

    Hello,
    I read a lot of articles on Planning Time Fence and the MRP Types P1 to P4 that goes with it. And I have tested it out in a Testing Environment.
    But I can't get it to do what I need.
    This is a normal planning with no PTF and MRP Type PD.
    Sometimes we have false requirements that show up in the past due to human error. When this happens, MRP rolls during the night and adds a bunch of deliveries in the past to cover the requirement.
    I wanted to use the PTF to prevent this. Meaning that extra deliveries would get added by MRP but after a PTF and not Firm deliveries. So that once the error is corrected, MRP rolls again and deleted all the extra deliveries it added.
    ** Only P2 and P4 adds deliveries after the PTF, but I need it to act normal on a day to day basis aswell and have MRP create deliveries like the print screen above. To add non-Firm deliveries after the PTF is just in rare cases of human error.
    Not sure if my explanation is clear.
    Patricia

    Hi Patricia,
    The planning time fence is there to stop MRP from making changes to requirements that fall within the planning time fence.
    Your planning time fence is a rolling period which shifts by 1 day each day and is calculated as of the current date. Yesterdays date is passed so it would not make sense for a planning time fence to use a date in the past to start it's calculation.
    Everything that falls before the end of the planning time fence will not be changed by MRP and you will see that all these schedule lines in MD04 will have an * assigned meaning they are firmed for MRP.
    If you manually add schedule lines in the past, the planning time fence will not stop you from doing this. The planning time fence will only stop MRP from making changes.
    By the way:
    If you manually add requirements to the scheduling agreement then MRP will never change these requirements as these are fixed requirements.
    If your customer would add requirements in the past or you add independent requirements in the past and your current stock does not cover the requirements the system will generate schedule lines and will put these directly after the planning time fence with an exception message assigned to them.
    As a side note:
    I always wonder why such questions arrive in the forum as this is something that can be very easily tested in the test environment.

  • Scheduling in Real-Time Java

    Hello,
    I have some questions concerning how scheduling in fact is intended to be performed in a RTSJ based Real-Time Java System.
    As far as I understood, RTSJ requires pre-emptive priority-based dispatching of Schedulable objects.
    This means that the execution eligibility of a schedulable entity is mainly its priority.
    That causality is reflected within the specification with the (one-and-only specified) PriorityScheduler, which is the base scheduler for actual Real-Time Java applications.
    Furthermore, there is a notion of extensibility of that PriorityScheduler described by RTSJ,
    in order to provide further scheduling mechanims and feasibility analysis algorithms (please correct me if there are any wrong assumptions).
    This is the point, where everything becomes really weird to me ...
    As far as I could investigate, in most RTSJ implementations based on a POSIX compliant system underneath (like Java RTS does on RTLinux or Solaris)
    each (Realtime)JavaThread is mapped 1-to-1 to a light-weight process on the operating system level (e.g. a pthread).
    So far, we have no "green threads" within the JVM, but real LWPs scheduled by the OS.
    The difference between "normal" and "real-time" threads lies in the scheduling policy used for that mapping.
    While normal Java threads probably map to SCHED_RR or SCHED_OTHER, real-time threads are scheduled by the OS via the SCHED_FIFO policy in order to achieve a better real-time predictability.
    However, the OS's scheduling mechanisms automatically make decisions about the right positioning of a LWP within an appropriate run-queue, due to thread's preemption, blocking or release (even dynamic priority changes) activities and its scheduling policy.
    That's exactly why I ask myself, what is the need of a Scheduler representation within a JVM?
    Furthermore, how a Scheduler extension is able to incorporate with the threading model and the underlying scheduling mechanisms of the OS?
    One point could be a situation where a real-time JVM runs directly on top of the bare hardware and has to perform scheduling decisions on its own.
    The Scheduler API could then be understood as an extension mechanism of a kind of JVM-intern scheduler (e.g. the PriorityScheduler), thereby allowing scheduling decisions to be made even in user defined Scheduler implementations.
    A similar use case for an OS-based scenario could be if a JVM is intended to pass scheduling/threading routines of the underlying OS (eg. a part of the POSIX API)
    up to the Java application level in order to provide the opportunity for a kind of application defined scheduling (like e.g. in the MaRTE OS).
    Unfortunatelly, after introspecting the RTSJ API, both conclusions seem to me to be wrong.
    So far, Java RTS seems not to provide any mechanism for reaction on scheduling events/decisions, neither intra-JVM nor from an underlying OS outside of the JVM.
    Furthermore, there is no notion for incorporation with the base PriorityScheduler for making extended scheduling decisions.
    I hope this post could bring me more light into the scheduling idea behind Real-Time Java systems as intnded by the RTSJ.
    Sincerely,
    Vladimir

    Vladimir.Nikolov wrote:
    That means, that a scheduling policy different to PriorityScheduler can only be assigned to a Schedulable object if it is supported by the OS and the JVM?Well it has to be supported by that implementation of the RTSJ. Howe that is done - ie whether it requires OS support - depends on that VM, the OS and the actual scheduling policy.
    It also seems that at the current state of the art the PriorityScheduler representative within the JVM is intended only for manipulating a feasibility set of Schedulable objects (supporting online feasibility analysis)?
    However, since user-defined scheduling is not intended by the specification, applications have to rely on the feasibility analysis based on the underlying/supported scheduling mechanisms.
    Thus, in the current Java RTS implementation this would be the "default" feasibility mechanism based on the PriorityScheduler.
    Unfortunatelly I can not figure out the need of maintaining a feasibility set, since feasibility, as specified for the PriorityScheduler, is a simple asumption that we have "an adequatly fast machine to handle the periodic and sporadic load"?
    I actually assumed that feasibility analysis performs real cost budgeting taking into account deadlines and so on, but it seems to be specified simply to make a negative statement always when aperiodic tasks are involved ?The RTSJ scheduling framework provides support for feasibility analysis by defining the admission control methods eg setXXXIfFeasible. However the RTSJ does not, and can not, mandate any non-trivial feasibility algorithm because in simple terms no such general algorithms exist. There are some static feasibility tests in the literature and you could apply those offline to your application (assuming you can find the values of all the "magic" numbers in such formulae - which is generally not the case). At present the RTSJ doesn't support even these simple feasibility tests because blocking-time is not recorded in the release parameters - something being addressed in RTSJ 1.1. In any case unless there is a pluggable framework for feasibility tests it would be a waste of time for VMs to implement them given they can (more) easily be done offline using other tools.
    Only dynamic admission control is really of interest and as far as I am aware no such general dynamic admission control policies exist (anything you find in the literature is very context specific). So it is left up to an implementation as to whether they try and define dynamic admission control algorithms - and so far none have because they don't have one.
    In "Getting More Flexible Scheduling in the RTSJ" Wellings and Zerzelidis propose some (more or less) "minor" extensions to the RTSJ API in order to enable hierarchical scheduling within the fixed priority framework.
    Since Andy Wellings is a member of the RTSJ Technical Interpretation Committee, is there any attempt to evolve the specification in a similar direction as described above, in order to support more flexible scheduling mechanisms and feasibility analysis?If there is ever a RTSJ 2.0 then more sophisticated scheduling support is one of the items on the wishlist. But there's no guarantee there ever will be a RTSJ 2.0

  • Scheduling - Min. queue time & work center / reduction

    Hello,
    I have a small issue with scheduling of production order.
    I have maintained in a work center with Std. queue time = 15 days and Min. queue time = 7 days.
    Means less then 7 days it should be not reduced and by enough time it should be calculated with 15 days.
    I know the forward scheduling production takes 20 days ( 5 days for first operation plus 15 days Std. queue time for second operation)
    By backwards I schedule the finish date which is less then 20 days in the future.
    I would expect system would take 7 days (Min. queue time) instead of 15 days with using reduction strategy.
    But system throws the message "Start date is in the past: today scheduling" and increases the finish date, with queue time = 15 day, instead to take
    7 days!
    I dont see system takes Min. queue time in account. Please help to find the error. Thansk!

    Hi
    Yes .Reduction strategy is only for floats to carry out detail scheduling
    Reduction in the float before and after production in the order, expressed as a
    percentage of the original float.
    For example  :
    The original float before and after production was 10days in both cases. You
    have entered level 2 as the maximum reduction level. The reduction of the float
    is in the first level 40 and in the second level 60.
    This means that in the first level the float is reduced by 40% of the
    original value, that is 6 days. In the second level the float is reduced by 60% of
    the original value, that is to 4 days

    Thank you.More appropriate for the Scheduler forum (Scheduler but I can tell you that if the job schedule is specified with a time zone expressed as a GMT offset (as yours are) then it is NOT "dst aware". Also comes into play if you are using a pl/sql function vs. the scheduler calendaring expressions for REPEAT_INTERVAL.
    I'd suggest you close this msg and start again in the proper forum. You'll get better and more focused help there.
