Scoring Simulation Quiz

Hi All,
I have created several software simulation captivate quizzes.
I have 5 slides, each worth 1 pt each if correctly answered
(clicked) therefore the entire Captivate quiz should be worth 5
points.
One of the slides has two click boxes - both go to next slide
if student successfully clicks (for example user can click on a top
level menu item or an icon as correct responses).
I have tried multiple combinations of "Add to Total" "Track
Score" and "Report Answer" without any luck.
I cannot get the slide to behave as a logical OR for scoring
purposes by default it seems to behave as a logical AND - meaning
the student needs to click on both click boxes on the single slide
to receive full marks. I really want the scoring on that slide to
behave such that if the user clicks on either one or the other
click box a single point is awarded.
Any advise on how to accomplish this would be hugely
appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Pam M

Hi Pam
I would say my pleasure on the answer. but it is never
pleasing to give "bad" news. Re Captivate 4 functionality, there
are so many things we all need and there is no way to know what it
contains until release. I must admit to feeeling like a kid on his
birthday - WHAT is in the box??????
Captivate 4 is not even released for beta testing yet and,
even with beta release, all involved on the project will probably
be sworn to secrecy on pain of an excrutiatingly slow death so I
cannot foresee finding out what is happening on Captivate 4 until
full release, SIGH!
Keep well.

  • Adobe Captivate 5 - Problem with scoring with Quiz exported to PDF

    Hello,
I have created several review quizzes that have been exported to pdf and uploaded to the internet. They are elementary school quizzes that are listed on a canned school web hosting site that only allows uploads in common formates such as Microsoft Word and pdf.
I tested these pdf quizzes with no problems and from my  computers they still work fine; however some people are having problems with the scoring element. Some - not all questions are not tabulated correctly in the end review section. I have been told that the questions were answered correctly but the end review showed some questions as wrong or not answered. The quizzes are reveiw only and no reporting or LMS is used.
Has anyone else seen this? I had a feeling that perhaps the adobe reader was at fault, but so far everyone is using reader version 9.
One of the quizzes can be found here.. http://www.germantownschools.org/faculty/jwoger/4th_math_topic_1_quiz[1].pdf

    Hi,
I have since my initial post been told that certain elements of the quiz slides are also not working. Correct answers have a sound clip that plays when the "correct" option is selected.  This is not working for some users. Like I said I have no problem with the pdf quiz from any  of the computers I use and don't know why it doesn't work for others.

  • CP5: Scoring and Quiz Result Slides for Selected Questions

    Hello World,
I am trying to create a course that has several "knowledge checks" that don't need to be scored or tracked, and then a 10 question quiz at the end that needs to be scored and tracked.
Does anyone know of a way to separate those two elements so that the Quiz Results slide does not include any of my "knowledge check" data and just gives the user details of the 10 question quiz? I would also like to use the progress bar, but only for the final 10 questions.
Alternatively, if the quiz result screen separated out the results of the knowledge checks from the quiz, that would work as well.
    Thanks,
    Graham

    Hello,
If you use the Question slides that come with Captivate, all the slides will be added to the total score because you can only have one Quiz in a CP-file.
Some ideas: you could set the score of the first (not te be tracked) slides to 0, or if possible change the questions from scored to survey (will not be scored).
If by Progress you mean the indication 'Question X of Y', there you will need to make your own counters, with user variables and advanced actions. If you want to have total control of your question slides you could create the first bunch of questions yourself and only use the default Question slides for the real last Quiz. Just published a blog post today with some links to articles about customizing Quizzes. Feel free to check it:

  • Scoring a quiz

Is there a way for a student to take a quiz multiple times but the score only changes if the student gets a higher score than the previous one?

That is normally a functionality of the LMS.

  • Partial scoring on quiz questions

I'm trying to create an assessment tool for literacy students, and there are some questions that I want to create as fill-in-the-blanks.  I am now using Captivate 7, and would like to figure out a way to have several blanks on a question, and have it mark by blank.  Currently it's an all or nothing marking, which really doesn't work because the student would have to get each and every blank on the page correct in order to get the question right.  Is there a way to get marks per blank??

    Hello,
Partial scoring is only available for MCQ type of questions in Captivate.
If you are willing to create custom FIB slides, this will be possible. You'll use validated Text Entry Boxes, that can have a score attached, one for each blank. I have explained such a FIB question slide with widgets (TextArea) but the problem is that scoring is than much more difficult if you want to report the score. Perhaps you could have a look at:

  • Typing in a Simulation Quiz

While I am learning Adobe Captivate 5 and finding it useful for simulation quizzes, I am running into some problems. I would like to require the participant to double-click on a word and replace it with another word. I would also like to have the participant create a table and type the data. When I preview the project, Captivate shows the typed data instead of asking the participant to type it. Is there any way of setting it to ask the participant to type?

    Hello,
Now I'm puzzled: you seem to do the editing of the word while doing the capture? I thought that the user that will use the published SWF would do the editing, for me that is the goal of a training simulation. I'm talking about your car-vehicle example, understood the workflow as this:
create a recording in automatic mode, training simulation with the settings I showed in previous post
CP will create an empty Text Entry Box in the location where you typed something in while capturing (could be car, but it will not show up at all, it doesn't matter)
when editing your project you add a Default to the TEB, in this case 'car' and you adjust the other properties
when published the user will see the Text Field with the word 'car', will double-click on it and change it to vehicle; if you want to check if this change has been done, you activate 'validate' in the TEB properties and type in the correct possibilities, in this case 'vehicle'.
    What did I not understand?
The other example: having to add a letter to a word is trickier, you should insert a text caption with the first letter 'a' in the right place and have a TEB only for the second letter 'n'.

  • How accurate is the myFico scoring simulator

Specifically, I am curious to know how much of a score increase can be expected for paying all of my bills on time, no new negatives report, and utilization doesn't change. So in a perfect world if everything stays the same but my AAoA increases by 1 month, is the simulator accurate in expecting a roughly 5 pt increase?

I can tell you I did a simulator test. I paid down my credit card debt significantly last month. My scores rose to within 3-4 points of what the simulator predicted.  Was happy to find out it's not a worthless tool!

  • How do I create a quiz with captivate 6.1 that can be loaded onto Moodle and scored?

    Hi,
I am trying to create a simulation quiz based on a simulation the learner has previously seen. I need the learner to be be able to view the assessment in moodle and for them to get a score.
    How do I do this?

Not really, good practice would have been to check the 3 possible Captures:
Then you'll get automatically an Assessment. Compare the modes under Preferences, Recording, Modes to see the difference with your present software simulation. You can edit the software simulations to turn it into an Assessment but it is more work than capturing all at once (which would have resulted in 3 different cptx-files).
Advanced Interaction panel can be opened with F9 or as an option under Project menu.

  • Trying to figure out how to get custom quiz concept to work

OK so I've been trying to get this concept to work in CP4. I have simulation quiz questions that gives the user 2 attempts to answer the quiz. The one hitch is that if the user get the question wrong the first time it gives them an "incorrect try again" message and if they get it wrong the second time it gives them an "incorrect please review section...." message. Now I've been trying to get this to work many ways and haven't been able to get the quiz to score right due to the fact I can't get CP to let me use the multiple incorrect feedbacks in a single click box.
I've tried setting up the questions using 2 click boxes (each click box has a different incorrect feedback message) but I run into the issue of if I answer the question right the first time then the second click box goes unscored and throws off the percentage.  I've been trying to figure out a way to manipulate the captivate system variables (cpinfoquizpasspoints, cpinfototalquestionsperproject, cpinfopointsscored) but I can't for the life of me figure out how to update the variables (ex. overide the cpinfototalquestionsperproject with my own number or add additional points to the cpinfopointsscored variable if the user gets the question right the first time. Basically I need to fig out a way to get this to work and ultimately be able to communicate to a Sumtotal LMS what the results are. I'm very open to suggestions
    Thanks
    B
btw. I'm really disappointed that CP4 allows different feedback messages on multiple attmeps for their built in questions but not for custom click box questions!!!!

I would try the multi choice like captiv8r said. if that doesn't work try a clickbox for each answer and:
Some quick notes for set up. Slide XX represents the slide that will contain the next question in the quiz. You may want to create all the slides (even if they are blank) as place holders for each question in the quiz. So if a question has 4 possible answers that's gonna be 4 slides for that question. If you have 5 questions and they all have 5 answers then you want to create 25 slides for the questions. (I think I did the math right on that )
Change the properties for the click box to on success: go to next slide (unless this is the correct answer then select jump to slide XX). Change the options
Under Options Only check Success Caption, Pause project until user clicks and pause for success/failure captions.
Click OK......You will be given a click box with a green box that says type success  text here.
Right click on the green box and select Properties
If this box is the right answer type in Correct or something to that extent. If its the wrong answer type in "Answer is wrong because ..bla bla bla..... reasons". You can format the font to be red or green and choose the appropiate caption type to match your color scheme (or create your own custom caption)
    Click OK.
After that all you have to do is duplicate the click box (right click on the click box and select duplicate) and edit the caption to be either "correct" or "answer is wrong because....."
Once you have all your captions in place you can copy the entire contents of the slide an paste it into the rest of the slides set up for that question (remember if the question has 4 answers then thats 4 slides for that question)
repeat steps 1 - 9 for the rest of the questions.
Some things you want to consider. If you only want to give the user say 2 attempts per question then you want to modify the setup to only 2 slides per question. That way if they get it wrong on teh second attempt they are advanced to the next question. If you are scoring this quiz you will have to set-up some variables for scoring.
The method above is what I used to answer my own question from the original post.... Lots of work but it got the job done! Good luck.

  • Who'd like to test a new Drag and Drop Interactive Widget?

It's taken about 6 months of every spare minute we could find but we're finally ready to do a round of Alpha testing for our new Drag and Drop Interactive Widget for Cp4 and 5.  This post is to ask for a handful of volunteers to test the new widget over the next week creating drag and drop interactions in both Cp4 and Cp5.
If you've already tried our well-known Drag and Drop Lite Question Widget, but were a bit frustrated by the limitations that the quiz question format placed on your creativity, we think you'll be blown away by what this new Interactive Widget can do.  It does everything the current question widget does, aside from the aspects that are unique to question types (Review Area, Retake Quiz, etc) plus a whole lot more.  Due to the extra functionality, this widget has twice as much code as our last one.
    Some of the features:
You can have as many widgets as you want on a single slide and each can be addressing a different drag and drop scenario.
You can reference the same drag and target objects from different widgets to create different.
Since they are interactive widgets, you can use the widget success/failure criteria to trigger Advanced Actions.  This opens up a lot of possibilities for game interactions.
You can score each widget differently so that OnSuccess they will each report different scores for dragging the same objects.  This means you can have Conditional Scoring and more than one correct answer for a given problem.
You can set one of the widgets to have its Preferences be used for all widgets on the slide so that you don't need to set all widget preferences individually, thus saving a lot of time.
You can set Preference Priority for each widget to configure which widgets will have "right of way" if there is a potential conflict in preferences.  For example, if one widget wants one type of snapping behaviour on an object but another widget wants the same object to snap differently, the widget with the higher Preference Priority will dominate.
You can nominate other interactive objects (including clickboxes or other widgets) to act as Submit button and Clear button to create a simulated quiz question.
Since this widget is an Interactive widget, it also has the same advanced Pausing override behaviours we built into our Event Handler widget (http://www.infosemantics.com.au/eventhandler)  So you can have users stay on the same slide playing with the drag and drop interaction for as long as they like without progressing to the next slide until they want to.
Plus other stuff I can't think of right now.
If you decide to volunteer to participate in this Alpha testing, please don't use this widget for any production Captivate projects you may have.  The Alpha and Beta versions of the widget will be time-bombed to stop working after a couple of weeks so that we don't have buggy versions running around later.
As I said at the beginning, we only need a handful of testers, we need people using either Cp4 or Cp5, and you need to do this testing over the next week so that we can then address any issues you find and release a debugged Beta version for more testing.
    Anyone wanna play?
If you do want to volunteer, send me a private message on this forum with your email address so I can send you a widget and instructions.  We'll only be taking the first dozen or so people that are willing to contribute time and feedback.
    Cheers,
    Rod Ward

  • Tracking Interactions

I am trying to configure a scored simulation so that if the
learner performance an incorrect action, they do not receive credit
for the point(s) assigned to the associated interaction.
I am working with click boxes and the issue I'm having is
that if I go through and perform incorrect actions, the SCORM
transcript and the results page in the simulation is reporting that
I performed all the actions correctly.
I thought that deselecting the Allow User Infinite attempts
checkbox in the click box properties dialog might be the solution.
If it is, I can't figure out what selection to make in the After
last attempt drop-down list in order for the learner to be able to
move forward by still performing the required action.
Another possibility is that I have configured the Quiz
Reporting options incorrectly. Currently, I have selected the
    following options:
Choose Report Data: Slide Views Only
    Reporting Level: Interactions and Score
Any recommendations for what setting(s) to modify in order
for incorrect interactions to be counted as incorrect in results
    would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Thank you for your response.
I think that it's something other than the Reporting Level /
LMS system because the transcript on the LMS system mirrors the
results that are displayed on the Captivate quiz results screen
that I embedded into the end of the simulation.
It is listing each interaction as being "correct" even when I
click away from the required click box on purpose first and the
failure feedback is displayed. Then, I click on the required click
box to move forward in the simulation.
If you have any other suggestions of what other settings I
should modify that would be great.
    Thanks

  • Controlling slide duration - Captivate 4

I am coming from a Camtasia world - no I am not "converting"
    - I still love Camtasia, But I would like to become proficient
building scored simulations. I inserted a number of Click boxes and
text entry boxes in a simulation of an accounting software package,
My slides seem to have a default duration of 7.8 seconds which I
would like to shorten to "pick up the pace". However Captivate
refuses to let me because of the other objects on the page that I
also try to shorten, but they ssem to be Ok with a duration of 3
seconds. What do I need to do or check to "pick up the
    pace".

    Hi Richard,
    I'm confused. Your slides "
seem to have a default duration of 7.8 seconds", but ... "
they seem (edited) to be Ok with a duration of 3 seconds". I
guess you lost me at the turn.
You cannot shorten the time-of-display for a slide to a time
that is less than the longest duration of any object placed on it.
So you will have to shorten the time of the objects on the slide
(text boxes, highlights, or any other object listed on the
time-line of that slide) before you can shorten the duration of the
slide itself. Am I even close to your question? I know you have
been "around the block", so am hoping you can forgive the
    simplicity of the answer ...
The default time for the slides in your movie can be set in
the "Preferences" dialog, which is located at the bottom of the
EDIT menu, in either Captivate 3 or 4. Hope something in here is
    helpful. Have a nice day.

  • Slow Movie Playback

I have created a simulated quiz using Captivate 3 using SCORM
1.2 with percentage reporting. There are many text and click boxes
throughout the movie. All the slides (about 80) are set at
standard. Learners are having difficulty because entering text is
very slow - words appear after typing and pressing Enter does not
always register. At times even the click boxes are slow to react.
The slowness is inconsistent. My LMS provider is telling me
learners have too many applications open and that is causing the
problem and that this happens with flash.
Any suggestions on how to increase the playback of the
    movie?

Update for people who are looking for a real solution:
As stated before, HD playback is slow and choppy on a mac if the bitrate is too high. However, if you have a new enough mac (mine is from late 2008) this is not due to hardware problems such as a slow graphics card or slow CPU!
I restarted my Mac into Windows 7 using bootcamp and I installed the free HD player called Splash Lite http://mirillis.com/en/products/splash.html . Using this player I was able to play all HD videos at any bitrate without any playback problems; no dropped frames, no skipping. While watching a video using this program, my CPU was being used by the program at about 30% which is a lot lower than when playing the same video on a mac program (usually around 90%). The program also notifies me that the GPU is being used for video playback.
In conclusion, my mac's hardware is very capable of playing HD videos but only if the correct program/OS is used. I believe Apple has just recently released APIs to allow programs to use the full power of the graphics card for video playback. VLC has recently came out with a GPU supported version of its player as well as Adobe Flash. However, performance is still not as good as under windows.
For now, I have to unfortunately stick with Windows to play my HD movies.

  • Can I show quiz results in the recording of software simulation?

Hello, Everybody, I'm using Adobe Captivate 7. I want to show quiz results after recording the software simulation. If the recording type is training, the user need to click for the instructions. When the user's click is wrong, the captivate will show the failure message and I want to reduce my score due to the wrong click. Please give me a instructions. Thanks!!!

  • Quiz scoring seems to be all or nothing?

Sorry if this is already answered elsewhere...
I create 1 quiz slide, eg fill in the blank, and have 8
blanks to fill in, and give the 'Points' field a value of 8.
Yet when I take the quiz, I have to get all 8 correct to get
    the 8 points. If I miss even 1, I get 0 out of 8.
(yes I could put each of the 8 blanks on its own fill in the
blank slide, but that's not practical for what I'm doing)
Why doesn't there seem to be a scoring option for 7,6,5...
out of 8 correct? This also seems to be the case with other quiz
styles. Why is it all or nothing scoring?
    Thanks for any help,
    Keith

    Hi Keith,
I'm finding the same, unfortunately. What sort of Hitler
designed the fill-in-the-blanks slide? "You scored less than 100%,
you worthless wretch. You must walk the plank."
How hard is it to loop through the fecking answers, checking
each one against a value? It's 2 arrays and a loop.
Please feel free to reply with a repudiation if we've
    overlooked something here.
    Thanks.
    Pete.
