Screwed up display / Shockwave Problem

Hi, am terribly desperate right now.
Was messing around with System Preference > Quicktime Settings > Advanced > MIME Settings until i got this.

I have already restored everything at Quicktime settings to default but it still doesn't work.
Previously, i was also installing flash for my mac because i couldn't view any YouTube videos.
I'm totally lost now, but before i bring it down to Apple's iCare, i was thinking maybe i could seek help online first.
Suggestions ?

Oh i missed the part where my flash is still not working. I still can't view any videos on YouTube. I tried most solutions i find in the discussion boards but unfortunately, none worked.

Hi, I read the post about calibration and I probably do that a little too often TBH! As I get so little time out the battery and mainly use my MBP on my lap, usually with the power supply near by, it gets charged to full, run to empty to the point of sleep, or sometimes it even cuts out and then is recharged to full again, so I really think it's new battery time. I've seen non Apple Official ones for between £35 and £65 that have 3 year warranties and state they are around 5200mh but am unsure due to reviews.

Anyway's I have now ordered a non Apple replacement from Amazon for about £35 and it has several good reviews and 4.5 out of 5 stars so I'll see if it works and report back. If it doesn't I'll send it back and get the Official Apple one.

Satellite L40-14F - Display settings problem

Hi,
I have Toshiba Satellite L40-14F with Intel GMA X3100 video card.
I have display settings problem, I can't change screen resolution and color quality when video card drivers are installed, screen resolution is 800 by 600 pixels and color quality is lowest 4 bits, when i uninstall video card drivers can change it. I try to install other drivers, there are the same problem :( Please help me :)

Aperture crashes when doing enhancements crashed at thread 35 which i think is a display driver problem any ideas folks

Aperture keeps crashing every time I try and do some auto enhancements crash log comes up with crashed at thread 35 or 36 which seems to point to a display driver problem imac 2.16 intel core 2 duo 3gb ram os x 10.6.7.
This is making aperture unusable I might go back to lightroom never had these problems with it.

It was DOA (Dead On Arrival). It is obviously to see it from BIOS to windows backround. I do not think that Lenovo, a famous brand name, could not detect this error before package it.
A giant who wants to become a leader needs to have a QUALIFY first.

I'm going nuts with display driver problems!!!!

I joined the forum some time ago but I can't get back in so I logged in with a new ID.(Pain)
I have a problem that I hope someone can help with When I place any of my work or a photo into CS5-Ext. I can't do any work on it? No matter what tool other than the paint brush I use, as soon as I click on the picture / work it disappears and will only re-appear if I click on it again. I've tried all sorts and it's driving me nuts, Can anyone help?---PLEASE---

That sounds like a display driver problem.
What OS are you running?
If Windows, you can often visit the web site of the maker of your video card and download/install an updated driver.
If OSX, you need to look to Apple and their OS updates to get updated display drivers.

HP Envy X2 (32-bit) upgrade from windows 8.1 to Windows 10 has a display compatibility problem

When I attempt to install Windows 10 on my machine I get an error screen that say's: "The display manufacturer hasn't made your display compatible with Windows 10." The display manufacturer (which is my HP with Intel(R) Graphic Media Accelerator), has a display compatibility problem with Windows 10. Does anyone know what I can do? Actually it's H partition that hp drive encryption is decrypting 5 days now (without % sign). I have only my dropbox data there. I could format that partition and downlad the data from dropbox again (it would take 1 day to download 60 GB of the data again from dropbox). D partition is HP recovery partition but I don't have any problems with it yet (i made a letter mistake in first post). I also made HP recovery media on USB stick. Will hp drive encryption automaticaly update the status of H partition from 'Decrypting' to 'decyrpted', if I format the H: partition? Will drive encyrption login window (WinMagic’s Pre-boot UEFI) (before the windows login) automatically be removed, if I format the H: partition? Will FilterBootOrder (FBO) variable automatically be removed, if I format the H: partition?I imagine this is automaticaly done via decrytion of all partitions/disk in HP client security (which doesn't work correct at my computer). Maybe afterwards the H: partition is formated and HP drive encryption status updated, I can then uninstall hp drive encryption and hp client security and install win10. This is another option.

It depends. If your still within warranty and the display failure isn't your fault you just back up your phone then go to any apple retail store and they'll give you a new one for free. If it is your fault I would still back up your phone and go into the store. Then they'll charge you about £150 and will give you a new one. But you must have your phone backed up. That will be the first thing they ask you.

MBP Display Lines Problem

Hey everyone, I just bought a MBP 15' 2.2Ghz last wednesday and am now seeing a display line problem. I see a green dotted line that extends from the top of the screen to the bottom approximately 2 inches from the right of the screen. The color of the line seems to change slightly depending on whats on the screen. For instance, I had the ladybug wallpaper and the line was almost complete all the way down (stil dotted with a missing section) and the color was bright green. With a different wallpaper that had a night sky and a green figure, the line flickered green/blue in the night sky area and steady green in the green part. My question is whether this is software or hardware related. I read many many other posts and many had display line problems but not the same as this one. Should I get this repaired? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks

Hey man, sorry to heard you have a display problem too. I have a line at the bottom of my display which extends across horizontally. Fortunately, its just a clear, bleached looking line which I can mask with the dock. I dont think I could tolerate the line in which you have described.
I would bring it to the apple store that you bought it from and have one of the apple guys check it out. I would demand a replacement. They will try to repair it. You shouldnt be repairing a defective purchase.
I am on my 2nd MBP. My first was kernal panicing all the time. I got it to KP in the store and he immediately offered a replacement. Apple care is pretty good, so dont be afraid to bring it in and demand a replacement.

Display color problem - asking for a color solution

So I have this serious problem with my Macbook Pro.
Some months ago I suddenly saw green colors in black area's and pink line colors in white areas.
Text on white background was extremely frustrating to read, since it was surrounded with small pink lines and flickering.
Note this was only near max white and max black areas of the screen.
I found out that it was due to a hardware failure, since slightly bending the laptop (!!) would remove the problem
Attaching an external monitor doesn't show the defect, and booting in Windows 7 (bootcamp) still shows the same screen problem.
Searching the web, it appears that it was a NVidia related heat problem, known to my model, but the offer to get it fixed for free by apple (since it was a known issue) had already run out december 2012 (!!). I think my laptop is about 3-4 years old, and the battery pretty much died on me the first year, probably due to heavy usage and the graphic card getting too hot. There are small sweat/corosion marks of where my hand are placed when typing, on the aluminium, due to how hot my laptop got. It sometimes got so hot I couldn't touch the aluminium on the top left corner near the 1-2-Q-W keys.
Fixing my Macbook is too expensive. Just getting someone to look at it to diagnose it (without repairing it), costs a lot in my country, and we have no official apple store, only authorized resellers. I know it's probably the motherboard, because I tried to unscrew the backlid and gently touch certain area's on the motherboard with a pen, while the computer was still running, to find out where the short circuit was. I only started this kind of trying to "self service" it, because I knew how expensive replacing the motherboard would be (if that was even the issue?).
I have multiple times tried to place something up against the sensitive area's on the motherboard, and then screw back the backlid, to put some pressure on it, which at first worked brilliantly and removed the color issue for some weeks, before it started reappearing. I think the heat from the laptop slowly makes the motherboard adapt, and the problem returns. Extremely frustrating indeed.
I hope I can one day afford a Macbook Air, but until then, I don't want to throw more money after my poor macbook (which I pronbably can't sell anyway, like previous mac's I've owned, the day get a new. It's too worn out + battery got only 5min on a full charge).
I think it's wisest to rather save the money for a Macbook Air, and try to survive until then. Therefor I was hoping someone could help me with a temporary solution.
In Windows 7, using the Nvidia Control Panel to apply color management, I was able to adjust the individual color output values, and thereby remove the the screen issue! Maybe the colors are not as good anymore, but it sure beats not getting a headache after 10minutes trying to read an article.
I tried the same thing on the mac, using Preferences>Displays>Color>Calibrate, but this guide is much harder to use to get a decent result (since only the last 2 options really makes a difference, but changes the colors completely, which I can't change by going back to the first color settings since then it just undos the last step I just did. I'm currently writing this with a very blue pale screen.
I also tried to use ColorSync Utility, expecting to enter values manually, but contrary to the articles I read about using ColorSync, I cannot edit the values in the color profile I created (I can only change the ASCII text input fields). Trying to save the profile gives me the error 'The Document "screenbug.icc" could not be saved.'
I tried to look for alternative color calibration software, but most of them required hardware, or expensive full version to unlock the settings I needed (like SuperCal).
I hope some tech savy users out there that can help me, or at least make my life with my macbook less of a pain.

PS: I've been a loyal Mac user since always. Few things I've learned is:
1) Don't buy the first version of new hardware. Wait about a month for reviews, to check for issues. I had a problem with an expensive MacPro that had to be replaced, but luckily for free since it was Apple's mistake. Sometimes Apple products also get minor internal changes/fixes without announcements, to help solve reported issues from early buyers.
3) Take care of you Mac, especially so because you can often sell your used Mac's for quite a value the day you want to upgrade. I've sold about 3 Mac's in my lifetime, for quite a gain, though I don't expect this macbook to do as well, if at all. But it's normally something to be cautious about.
3) Don't order custom configurations from the Apple Store, if you can live without it (+ it's usually crazy overprices). I payed extra to get the NVidia GeForce 9600M, and was happy with it for the first couple of years, but is now causing me all the problems I have today + made my Macbook worthless.
Stick with what the default configuration if possible, as other configurations might not have been tested carefully.

Also, if you have an iPhone 3G and iOS 4.2.1 is the latest software that you can install on your phone, then there is absolutely nothing that anyone can do to fix the problem if you want to install Skype that requires iOS 4.3 - what do you think anyone can magically do?
iPhone 3G is a very old phone now and if you want to install Skype on your phone, then you need to go out and buy a new iPhone - either a 4s or a 5. Nothing more to it. Buy a new phone.

Adobe Flash/Shockwave Problems

for some reason Adobe Flash is Crashing Every day for the last 2 weeks with Firefox i'v reinstalled it and it didn't help one bit and not sure whats going on. my system is a Win 8 (64bit) Firefox version is 25.0

Download the following files (Right click and "Save Link as"):
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
Shockwave Player Uninstaller
Flash Player Uninstaller
Shockwave Player 12 FULL Installer
Reboot.
Run the Uninstallers from your Downloads folder, to remove BOTH Flash Player and Shockwave.
Go to: C/Windows/System32 and delete the Macromed folder.
Go to: C/Windows/SysWOW64 and delete the Macromed folder.
Open your Windows Registry Editor (Start>Run or press the Windows key+r. Tpye "regedit" [minus the quotes] and click OK.
In the Registry Editor, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE and delete the Macromedia folder.
Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software and delete the Macromedia folder.
Close the Registry Editor and empty your Recycle bin.
Run the Shockwave FULL Installer first, and THEN the Flash Player Installer. These are offline installers and will require no connection during the process.
If problems persist, try disbaling other plugins and extensions for Firefox, to determine if one or more is conflicting with Flash and Shockwave.

Cinema Display 30" problem

I have a 30 inch Cinema Display from 2006-ish. I have not used it for a while and when i powered it up again a few days ago it was kind of broken.
There is no image from my Mac, only these vertical lines (check the photos). The lines change a bit if I move a window around and using a different Mac does not help.

The screen itself appears to be intact. Does anyone know of anything I can try to get it fixed? Or replace a part or two?

If you're not yet sorted - I had similar prob with my then 1 year-old iMac - AppleCare swore blind it wasn't a hardware problem and told me to wipe my hard drive and re-install EVERYTHING...!
Fortunately, I didn't believe them, and hunted thru various forums...and identified that, as I thought, it WAS a hardware prob - and the next AppleCare guy acknowledged it and sorted the repair, finally!
The heat sensor was from a bad batch (that it turned out Apple knew about and could have identified immediately by the serial number, so could have saved me days of frustration and wasted time) and it was erroneously turning the Mac off as what it perceived was a safety thing. Hope that helps...

HDMI to Mini Display Port problem.

When I connect my MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011) to my TV using my HDMI to Mini Display Port adapter the MacBook just shuts off completely. I can use a VGA adapter no problem but I would like to get better picture quality from HDMI. Anybody have any ideas what the problem is?

Have you tried a different adapter/cable? This is where I would start. (see if you can borrow some).

Macbook Pro 13 inch & External Display - resolution problem

I'm trying to connect my macbook pro 13inch to an NEC 26' Multisync display - which has a native resolution of 1900 x 1200 - and when connected to a PC this is what I get. When I connect the mac though the top resolution is 1900 x 1080 - so the display is distorted.
I've tried finding diplay drivers for the monitor and graphics card without success. Apparently the GEForce 9400 graphics in the macbook can output up to 2500 x 1600.
I'm wondering if it's the connection method - I'm using the mini display to VGA adapter that I got with the macbook. Do I need to use the alternative adapter - the mini display port to DVI adapter? Seems this is needed for connection to 'advanced' displays. Will this make any difference or is it that the macbook 13 inch can't output to a 26in display?
Any advice or assistance will be greatly appreciated

I would get the DVI regardless.
Your taking a digital signal from the macbook, converting to to anolage VGA, and the the monitor is converting it back to digital again to display on the screen.
DVI will make it direct digital to digital.
Plus, because DVI is digital, is passes resolution information. So you should get your native resolution no problem.
