Screwy outgoing mail problem

Sometimes the icon of my outgoing mail just keeps going round and around and it doesn't allow messages to be sent. I've had to shut down the mail program and then start again. Any idea why?

Hello ark:
I had a slow mail problem myself. I addressed it by using OpenDNS (free version):

  • OUTGOING MAIL PROBLEMS ON IPAD AND ACBOOK PRO

Whenever I send emails through my business mails to yahoo, gmail and other mail clients from my iPad and macbook pro, it is rejected by the server. My business mail is hosted by siteground.com.
When sending the same mails on non apple devices, it goes through alright. I have tried different options of the outgoing mail servers and ports as suggested by my host but still have issues. There are no issues with incoming mails on the apple devices. How do i resolve these problems?

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Click the Show Detail button. A drawer opens. Send a message and post the text that appears. Anonymize any personal information before posting.

  • Outgoing mail problem

    hello mac users...
having problems with mac mail, again. spontaneously, without any changes to my system, i am not able to send mail. am able to receive, and am able to communicate with the outgoing mail server (as per a check with the system administrator) but all outgoing mail is held in my out box and i receive a generic error message when attempting to send mail. i had a problem with mail before that was remedied by deleting the envelope folder from the mail library, tried that again this time, to no avail...
    any suggestions?

You are able to send messages.
If a message cannot be sent for whatever reason, it will remain in the Outbox mailbox with an error message provided.
A message will not be moved to the account's Sent mailbox unless it was successfully sent by the SMTP server used by the account. Open any message in the account's Sent mailbox and at the menu bar, go to View > Message and select Long Headers.
Information in the Message ID field (ends with @mac.com or the domain for the email account provider used to send the message) is another indication the message was successfully sent.
A successfully sent message is either accepted or rejected by the recipient's incoming mail server. Due to spammers using "dictionary" attacks - guessing at email addresses for an email account provider's domain and not providing a valid sending or return email address, many ISP's and email account providers are no longer sending a return email error message to the sender of a message when a message is not accepted by recipient's incoming mail server.
If a message is accepted by the recipient's incoming mail server, what happens to the message after that has nothing to do with the email client used.
Although for the most part, messages are received in a matter of seconds but not always since successfully sent messages do not take a straight line from the account's SMTP server to the recipient's incoming mail server.
I completely reformatted my secondary hard drive, installed a
new system only and configured my mail account from scratch
and the problem is still there. I have also cleared the cache's using
Onyx, repaired permissions, even removed the battery to reset
other setting, but nothing has helped.
None of this has any effect or helps in this situation since these messages were successfully sent.
Contact your providers and ask if there is anything they can do with the Message IDs for these successfully sent messages.

  • Outgoing Mail Problem on iPad and iPhone

I have a Telstra iPhone and iPad. When I try to send or relay emails from work or other locations (not at home) to my work email or to other people I get the following message: Cannot Send Mail. A Copy has been placed in your Outbox.  The recipient xxxxxx was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying When I am at home and connected via wifi to my optusnet account, I can usually send emails from my iPad, but not always from my iPhone.  Very frustrating!

    Hi sgn,
Please ensure you have the correct settings by following our guide here:
    https://support.telstra.com.au/t5/Email/ct-p/LSP_Email#item-ARTICLES-LSP_Email-399836
I'm assuming this is a Bigpond email address? If so it will be best to follow the heading: Set up Telstra email on the BigPond® platform, on your tablet or mobile
If you continue to have problems it may be due to network you're connected to at the time restricting this. You may need to use the outgoing mail server of the provider that you're connected to via Wi-Fi. If the email isn't large you can toggle on Mobile data to send if this suits.

    Hi,
I am trying to set up the outgoing mail with the iphone, however it fails everytime.
My mail server doesnt accespt smtp requests from external Ips, so in the past on my Treo phone
I had a vzwmail.net account and used that to send my mail out.
On my blackberry i had no problems, however on the iphone i cannot send mail.
My collegue who has att iphone has to use a att smtp server for his outgoing which works fine.
I tried the smtp.vzwmail.net with my [email protected] but this no longer seems to be working.
I was told to try hostname: outgoing.verizon.net with port 587
however then it asks me for a usename /password.
I have tried my cell number as username, also my Myverizon username and password , all which fail.
How can i resolve this and be able to send mail.

  • Smtp-server (outgoing mail) problem on MAIL

Time Warner/road runner technician cannot figure out m youtgoing (smtp) email connection. No way of authenticating the smtp-server.nyc.rr.com. The Apple=software on my new Mac mini is too advanced for TW help site. They told me to solve "smtp-server problem" though MAC mini help site.
How can I get the smtp server to work so that I can send out my emails on my mac-MAIL program
    Irene Schmied

what is the smtp server info they have told you to use?
in Mail>preferences>accounts, make sure your TW account is selected in the left hand side of the window, then go to the Account Information tab, then go to the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) option at the bottom of that window, click on it, and go to Edit Server List, what is showing as server name? an if you click on Advanced, what is the server port, is SSL checked, and is authentication set to password, and if so do you have the user name and password entered?

  • Roadrunner outgoing mail problem

Since my comcast account was changed to a Roadrunner account, I have had problems with my outgoing mail on my powerbook. I have no problem while at home hooked up to my RR cable. But when I travel and am on the hotel internet access, I can receive with no problem but cannot send via RR using Mail on my MacOS system. I must always go to the web based RR acount or use my seldom used .Mac account. Any ideas why I can't send email out. I am using smtp-server.tx.rr.com; port 25 no authentication, unchecked SSL.

You can try changing the Server Port from 25 to 587 for RR's SMTP's server when traveling and not connected to the internet via RR and if this doesn't work, you need to check with the hotel's front desk or with the hotel's internet service provider for their required settings when using an SMTP server that is outside of their network.
Since hotels have business and other types of travelers that take a notebook along and need access to their email accounts including sending messages with an email client such as Mail that requires using an SMTP server, certainly the hotel and/or the hotel's ISP is aware of and takes account for this but maybe not.
I don't travel as much as I once did but in my experience with some recent travel staying at a hotel with Ethernet internet access only in the room and wireless network access in the lobby area, after I logged in to the hotel's website that is provided when first connected and launching a browser, the hotel provides a password or passkey when checking in for gaining internet access via their network and internet access provider and after entering the required password, I was able to send messages with .Mac's SMTP server using Mail which is authenticated separately but I use 587 for the Server Port.
RR does not have or support an authenticated SMTP server so using 587 for the server port may work and if not, you must check with the hotel's front desk or with their internet service provider that should include technical support for their required settings.

  • Outgoing mail problem - help!

    Hi,
Gmail and Yahoo mail works great; however, I was having trouble with a custom email setup. The problem is with the outgoing email and not the incoming email. I set up an IMAP connection for incoming and it syncs very well. When I try the outgoing, it is unable to send email and there is no error message that could tell me what went wrong.
Settings used for IMAP (and it works):
    Server: [connect.wayne.edu]
    Port: [993]
    Username: [myusername]
    Password: [mypassword]
    [select] Use secure connection
    [unselect] Verify certificate
Settings for outgoing mail that does NOT work:
    SMTP server: [connect.wayne.edu]
    Port: [587]
    Username: [myusername]
    Password: [mypassword]
    [select] Use secure connection
    [unselect] Verify certificate
The same mail server and port settings works on a co-worker's Droid, which is running perhaps older version of software that allows you to select  security option: [TLS] . I think the problem in Droid2 outgoing is this security option.
When I downloaded the "TouchDown" for DROID2 trial version of App (by NitroDesk), the outgoing email works without any trouble. However, I want my fix the email software that came with Droid2.
    Regards,
    Nadeem

when  "TouchDown" would not work i kept looking and solved my problem from the links on this page from motorola. My problem was cox.net smtp.  works great now after i found the settings for secure email..

  • Outgoing Mail Problem with Verizon DSL

I live in Hampton Roads, VA area and have Verizon's DSL with wireless gateway equipment on Dell Computer. My iMAC connects wirelessly to the gateway and connects to Internet fine and receives email fine on the Verizon POP account. I have verified settings and read most of the topics on the post and am very frustrated. There does not seem to be a definative answer on whether outgoing mail should work with Verizon DSL. Any new insights on this topic or something to look at? Dell is set to use Port 25 and sends fine so I know this is the port to use.

What does “is not working” mean? What’s the problem exactly?
If you cannot send with the outgoing (SMTP) server provided by your ISP, the problem could be that you’re telling Mail to authenticate, but the outgoing server doesn’t actually require authentication because it can determine who you are by other means.

  • .Mac Mail incompatible with Firefox?  Also, outgoing mail problems in Mail.

I run Firefox on my Apple as well as on the PC I have to use for work. When I visit my dotmac account and go to my mail, in Firefox on either of these computers, I can read e-mail but cannot respond or compose a new message. When I try to do either of those things, I just get a big empty, blank box that won't let me type in it.
I can compose and reply just fine on Safari.
I've been searching the web for discussion on this, but haven't seen any so I'm starting to wonder if it's something I'm doing wrong. My settings haven't changed, the old .mac mail worked just fine.
    Any thoughts?
My second problem, which I believe is unrelated as it only started happening recently is my .mac account within the Mail app will not send mail. I recently had my system crash and had to erase the hard drive and re-install the OS. I saved my data with the Firewire disk mode and my iMac. But ever since, my .mac e-mail refuses to send mail. The User name and password are correct, the outgoing mail server is just like it always was. It tries to send the message then tells me the message can't be sent with the server smtp.mac.com

    Try this-
Find Firefox preferences, and be sure that popups are not being blocked.
Not sure about that, but it sounds like popup problems.
In Apple Mail, try entering the smtp server for your ISP (comcast? roadRunner?) some ISP's force you to use their mail servers. (don' tchange anything about POP, just change smtp.mac....to smtp.[ISP's_servers]
Your password may need to be adjusted.
I know you say "like it always was", but something might have changed during your hard drive erasure.

  • Iphone Fasthost outgoing mail problem

I cant get my outgoing mail to send from my webmail account.
    Have tried smtp.xxxmydomainxx.com smtp.xxxmydomainxx and smtp.fasthosts.co.uk
Each time I get error message saying ' server rejected recipients address'
I 've also tried port 25 as well as 2 others the hosting provider has suggested. No luck.
    Any suggestions?

Unless the SMTP server for the account is authenticated, you will have problems sending with the account.
Is the SMTP server for this account authenticated?
If not, in the U.S. AT&T's SMTP server to be used when connected to AT&T's cellular network is included as an SMTP server to choose from and use with an email account. The same may be included for your carrier in the UK.
If so, this should work for sending messages with the account when connected to the cellular network, but may not work when connected to an available wi-fi network.
I access two email accounts with the iPhone's Mail client and both email accounts have an authenticated SMTP server. I've never had a problem sending messages with either account regardless the internet service provider associated with my internet connection at the time.
This restriction imposed by internet service providers is part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain. You can thank low-life spammers for this. The same would apply when accessing an email account that does not have an authenticated server with an email client on a laptop.

  • E71 Outgoing Mail Problem

Everything was working fine until upgrading the Nokia Messaging service a couple of months ago, I can no longer send email or reply to incoming email using the Nokia Messaging service - they all bounce back with a failure notice and the numbers "500". Incoming emails work fine.
I can send email using the standard email setup on the phone. Have uploaded latest firmware and reloaded everything today - no change.
    Thanks for your help.
Don't assume malice for what stupidity can explain.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
I too was experiencing the exact same issue you are describing.  Not sure what's causing the problem, but It's a rather easy fix.  Try these steps:
    1. Log into your Nokia Messaging account on email.nokia.com.
    2. Click on "Edit Setttings" next to the affected email account.
    3. Click on "Change server settings".
    4. Remove the data from the "Outgoing mail server", "Outgoing server port" and disable the SSL setting if it's currently enabled.
    5. Click on "Save changes".
    6. Send an email from the affected email account via Nokia Messaging and you should be good to go now.
    Hope this helps.
