Script for password
Hello
I need help in writing a script that scans the /etc/shadow file for user passwords that expire within
5 days and forces the users to change their password as soon as they login.
The /etc/shadow file has entries like this:
UserX:<password>:12669::90:5:30::
12669 the last time the password was changed--> in # of days since 1970
How can I find todays date in --# days since 1970 ---format so do I can do calculations to determine if a password is about to expire?
thanks in advance!

Copy and paste Java script for password protecting a page?
I need to password protect one page which I want to call my LOGIN page on a site I'm making in Dreamweaver CS5.5. Unfortunately I know that the hosting company I'm using does not have the ability to allow me password a single directory on the server end to accomplish this (I know STRANGE) .... SO
I found some code online - java script that I can just copy and paste into the <head> section of my page. This might be a silly question but is this a 'safe' way to do this? (I don't need anything fancy and the people whom will be accessing this page will all have the SAME password, so I don't need a registration form or anything fancier...)
Any thoughts?Ugg I totally knew you would all say that (because I already knew that would offer me the easiest solution), change hosts and now I'm embarrassed to say that YES I am paying for the hosting; BUT, I have to explain that I'm with this hosting company because way back when I started that site I needed something super user friendly because I was just learning. Now I have learned more and have started to use Dreamweaver. I just stayed with the same hosting and will use FTP to upload my new more updated site. In the company's defense even though they do offer a way to FTP a site up, their main objective (I think) is to have a really easy way for people to get a site up without knowing anything about code or css or anything; and they operate under the assumption that MOST of their customers will be using their super easy software and not use FTP. That is why I think they are limited to what they offer, at least that is my take on it. My more recent sites do not use this company as I have tried to learn and 'move up'.
Anyway I guess if I don't want to switch hosting I still have the same problem. Is it really that difficult to make something that has just one use ID and password which would be the same thing for every person? Might be a great learning experience for me?
Yep it might be time for me to switch hosting.... sigh. What to do..... -
Shell script for password prompt
Hi
I am using Solaris9 and trying to change password of a user with command:
passwd userid
i want password to be given from text file or command line so that password is not prompted on the command line. Is there any way to do this?
I guess i am able to force the carriage return to be entered while entering the password from command line.
This is what I am doing:
passwd userid << EOF
newpassword
newpassword
EOF
But after this, it still gives me New Password prompt. Any help will be appreciated.You could have a look at 'expect', it can set the password for you..

Help on preparing shell script for setting the listener password
Hi All,
I am working on checking all my DB servers listeners and if the password is not set for the listener then I need to set the password for that.
As we have many servers, I am planning to prepare the shell script for doing this task.
I am familiar with setting up the listener password manually, but strucked up to prepare the shell script to do the same task.
Can any one kindly help me on this.
Thanks in advance,

I would like some assistance with writing a simple shell script using the telnet command. I would like to simply execute my script and have it telnet to a device, login and perform commands specific to the equipment.
Once I get past the login I got the rest. I am requesting assistance with establishing the actual telnet session sending the escape character to awake the device, wait for the login, send login, wait for the password send password. etc.. I can then execute the commands needed at this point.
Thank you,

[email protected]Hi,
I've got a script for telnet, maybe you'll try this:
#!/usr/bin/perl
sub connect
use Net::Telnet ();
#testscript for remote login and datatransfair.
print("IP of Router you wannt to connect to: \n");
$ip = <STDIN>;
#gets IP from standardinput.
open(TAB, ">$ip");
$tel = new Net::Telnet(Errmode => "return", Timeout => 20);
#generate telnet object.
$tel->open($ip);
#connect to $ip
$tel->login(Name => "User", Password => "",);
#login
$tel->cmd("more off");
#more off.
@table=$tel->cmd("ip routes");
I Hope you can use this
Cheers

1. i need to connect the database which is on unix server , but before connecting the DB some of the files needs to be removed from \tmp directory.
2. once removed the script need to connect the database and call the sql file which is in \tmp directory.
3. the output files will be stored in \tmp directory start with DB name.
4. finally csv files needs to be transferred to local windows with help of FTP. please find below the script
#!/bin/sh
rm -f /tmp/dbmon/DB1*
CONNSTRING=username/PASSWORD@service
sqlplus -s $CONNSTRING @/tmp/STATS.sql << EOF
EXIT;
EOF
HOST='xxxxx'
USER='xxxxx'
PASSWD='xxxxxx'
FILE='E:\STATS\DB1.*'
cd /tmp/dbmon
ftp -n -v $HOST << EOT
user $USER $PASSWD
prompt
mput $FILE
bye
EOT
EXIT;
EOF
Thanks
Edited by: ASP on Nov 18, 2011 4:45 PMHi ASP
It's always a good idea to write entries to timestamped log file without which you will never know where the script went wrong or failed.
This is not tested but just a small example
#!/bin/sh
export LOG_DIR=/tmp/log
export LOGFILE=$LOG_DIR/`basename $0`_${TIMESTAMP}.log
if [ ! -d $LOG_DIR ]
then
mkdir $LOG_DIR
fi
echo "Removing the temporary files from /tmp/dbmon at `date +%Y%m%d_%H:%M:%S`" | tee -a $LOG_FILE
rm -f /tmp/dbmon/DB1*
CONNSTRING=username/PASSWORD@service
echo "Run SQLPlus file" | tee -a $LOG_FILE
sqlplus -s $CONNSTRING @/tmp/STATS.sql << EOF
EXIT;
EOF
echo "Now FTP the files to windows box " | tee -a $LOG_FILE
HOST='xxxxx'
USER='xxxxx'
PASSWD='xxxxxx'
cd /tmp/dbmon
ftp -vn $HOST <<EOF
quote USER $USER
quote PASS $PASSWD
ascii
cd E:\STATS
mput DB1.*
bye

[SOLVED] advanced shell script for mount and unmount samba share
Good morning guys,
Today I've a very long question....
Hope in your help....:
I usually move from different network.
For one of those I need to mount some share that are under an ActiveDirectory server.
To do that I use samba.
Especially I've made and use the below shell script.
I know that it's so stupid but I'm a very newbie:
#!/bin/sh
echo "This is a custom script for mount my citrix share"
echo "Please insert user password (must a sudoer user)"
echo " "
sudo mount -t cifs -o username='myusername',password='mypassword' //host_ip/TsHome$/myusername /home/myuser/samba_share/TsHOME
sudo mount -t cifs -o username='myusername',password='mypassword' "//host_ip/direction" /home/myuser/samba_share/direction
echo " "
read -p "Press ENTER key to close this terminal"
exit
As I say the script work but it's so crude...!
I want/need to implement it whit the follow addictions:
1. print a feedback on mount: somenthing like "TsHOME is now mounted" or "unable to mount TsHOME"
2. check if the share are already mounted: to prevent accidentally multiple mount. If a share is already mounted I want to print something like "TsHOME is already mounted on /home/myuser/samba_share/TsHOME"
3. ask for share password (now it's in clear on script) - This is optinal
4. un-mount the share before reboot or shutdown command. That because I've notice that If i reboot or shutdown without manually un-mount the share the step of unmounting network file system became very slow
If it's no extremely difficult, can someone help me to write this script?
I know that man exist but I'm not a programmer and it's so difficult for me approch it.
Thank you in advance.
Ale

I've follow your information and.. it work!
If can be usefull to other this is the complete script:
#!/bin/sh
echo "This is a custom script for mount citrix share"
echo "****************************************"
echo " "
echo "Please insert domain password:"
read -s mypassword
echo " "
echo "|checking mount state...in share are not mounted mount it!|"
echo "+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+"
if grep "TsHome" /etc/mtab &>/dev/null; then
grep "TsHome" /etc/mtab | awk '{print "TsHome is already mounted on " $2}'
else
sudo mount -t cifs -o username='yourusername',password="$mypassword" //ipaddress/TsHome$ /home/Samba_share/TsHOME && echo "TsHOME is now mounted" || echo "unable to mount TsHOME"
fi
echo " "
if grep "direction" /etc/mtab &>/dev/null; then
grep "direction" /etc/mtab | awk '{print "direction is already mounted on " $2}'
else
sudo mount -t cifs -o username='yourusername',password="$mypassword" '//ipaddress/direction' /home/Samba_share/direction' && echo "direction pat is now mounted" || echo "unable to mount direction"
fi
echo " "
if grep "Area" /etc/mtab &>/dev/null; then
grep "Area" /etc/mtab | awk '{print "Area is already mounted on " $2}'
else
sudo mount -t cifs -o username='yourusername',password="$mypassword" '//ipaddress/Area' /home/Samba_share/Area && echo "Area is now mounted" || echo "unable to mount Area"
fi
echo " "
echo "All DONE!"
echo " "
read -p "Press ENTER key to close this terminal"
exit
I don't really well understand what I've to put in rc.local.shutdown....
I think somethings like:
#!/bin/bash
# /etc/rc.local.shutdown: Local shutdown script.
echo "This is a custom script for UN-mount citrix share"
echo "********************************************"
echo " "
echo "|check mount state: if mount then un-mount!|"
echo "+-------------------------------------------------------+"
echo " "
if grep "TsHome" /etc/mtab &>/dev/null; then
grep "TsHome" /etc/mtab | awk '{print "TsHome is NOT mounted -> going on..." $2}'
else
sudo umount /home/Samba_share/TsHOME && echo "TsHOME is now UN mounted" || echo "unable to UN-mount TsHOME"
fi
echo " "
if grep "direction" /etc/mtab &>/dev/null; then
grep "direction" /etc/mtab | awk '{print "direction is NOT mounted -> going on.." $2}'
else
sudo umount /home/Samba_share/direction && echo "direction is now UN mounted" || echo "unable to UN-mount direction pat"
fi
echo " "
if grep "Area" /etc/mtab &>/dev/null; then
grep "Area" /etc/mtab | awk '{print "Area is NOT mounted - Finished" $2}'
else
sudo umount /home/Samba_share/Area && echo "Area is now UN mounted" || echo "unable to UN-mount Area"
fi
echo " "
echo "going shutdown"
echo " "
sleep 5
I've try but it seems to ignore the IF statement... this is the output when ALL share are UNmounted:
$ sh /etc/rc.local.shutdown
This is a custom script for UN-mount citrix share
|check mount state: if mount then un-mount!|
+-------------------------------------------------------+
umount: /home/Samba_share/TsHOME: not mounted
unable to UN-mount TsHOME
umount: /home/Samba_share/direction: not mounted
unable to UN-mount direction
umount: /home/Samba_share/Area: not mounted
unable to UN-mount Area
going shutdown
Tomorrow I will test again when I'm at office.
Meanwhile can you check if I made a macroscopic mistakes?
Thank you again!

Recommended solution for password protecting a page for clients only
Hello,
I am using Dreamweaver CS6 on Mac (Mavericks).
I am building a new website for my business and I want to create a page where only my clients can access information after using an id and password that I provide them with. I do not want them to register online, etc. to access the page.
I was instructed to not use Dreamweaver's solution because it is outdated.
Can anyone provide me with advice on how to best do this? Use/Not use Dreamweaver functionality? Recommended extension?
Thanks,
JoshuaOK. If you have 50 to 100 clients and you want all of them to have different passwords, then the solutions recommended so far would be a pain to maintain.
I'm going to give you a solution that is easy to maintain. You will simply add new passwords to the "array" at the top of the script. This is of course not a secure method, but it will work for you. You can edit the design and text, etc. Simply paste all the code into a new file and call it "access.php.
This is not the method I use for password access. I use a method that handles hundreds of thousands of passwords easily, but it's far more complex. . .and secure. But I think this simple method should work for you:
<?php
// All the PHP code is in these first few lines at the top except a few lines that all begin with <?php -- watch out about editing those lines.
// this is where you create the set of passwords. Simply follow the pattern below to add new passwords to the list. Note that the final item does not have a trailing comma:
$passwords = array(
"client1",
"anotherclient",
"lastclient"
?>

Does anyone have access to the Roadrunner dial up script for Mac?
Hello,
I'm getting authentication error when connecting to Roadrunner through their dial up service. I'm told I need a dial up script. The URL they provided leads to a file not found error.
I would also appreciate knowing where I would put this script once I get it.
Thank you in advance,
MarkThere is no dial-up script for RR. There's a dial-up script for the modem you are using, and that's selected in the modem configuration through Network preferences.
Authentication errors occur when the userid and/or password provided for the dial-up account are not correct. They are not caused by the dial-up script itself unless RR uses some sort of non-standard authentication dialog. It's been a long time since I ever used their dial-up, but I don't recall they used a non-standard dialog at the time.
In earlier versions of OS X it was possible to open the dial-up terminal manually so you could observe the remote dialog and enter responses to the dial-in procedure. You could then save the resulting dialog into a login script that would be used once the dial-up connection was made. Unfortunately, I haven't used dial-up in several years, so I'm afraid I'm not much help in this regard. You could do some exploring in Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu to see if you find a help article. -
