Script for Quicktime Closed Caption

Help please-
Using the basic script I've found online to produce closed captions, I seem to have problems with timecode-for example, captions don't always appear or disappear on time(some do and some don't).
Is there a trick to the script layout to improve caption performance?

Do you want to be able to have them both recording at the same time?
I have had a little look through quicktimes dictionary and there doesnt really seem to be much there in regards to changing the source of the sound for recordings.
So i would suggest at looking to altering the preferrence file for quicktime player before you send it the activate command.
What you are going to have to do is to get the InputID line from within the preference file. Use the little script below to get the information about the inputId. So open quicktime, set the input to one of the two you want. Close it run the script and save the information somewhere, so you can compare it later on. Then open quicktime again change the preference to the other input you want and run the script again. Then you can compare the preference files and see what is needed to be altered to get it to record from the different locations.

The script should work but i have only tested it on my computer, if it fails either spotlight for com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist or get it from users/library/preferences
A little tricky i know but hopefully shoulnt be too hard once you have narrowed down the items that need to be changed.
If you dont know how to alter your preference file with a script post the results and the items that change from what and to what and i will give it ago.

FrontRow and Quicktime Closed Caption Scaling and Enabling

Currently, FrontRow renders Text tracks (for example Closed Captioning and Subtitles) to the same resolution as the Video. A low-res Video will have blocky, heavily anti-aliased text.
The same video played Fullscreen from Quicktime Pro or iTunes doesn't have these Artifacts. Text is smooth and crisp.
Hopefully FrontRow 2 will render Text tracks at the same resolution as the Display.
Enabling and Disabling Text Tracks and Supplementary Audio tracks needs to be addressed in FrontRow too. Quicktime needs improvements, but at least it is possible.

Scripts for Quicktime Player ???

Whatever happened to the Apple Scripts for Quicktime player that worked with Quicktime Pro so that you could merge two movies, cut out segments, etc. The old set I have worked with Quicktime 6.5.5 but are dead now.

Ironic, isn't it.
Today is QuickTime version 7's fifth birthday. 5 years without any additional Apple involvement in the AppleScripts that worked so well in version 6.
The move from version 6 to 7 also lost support of other features found in version 6. No more .swf files. No editing MIDI instruments. No more "free" rotation of video tracks. No more "transparency" for colors (no more color wheel, either). No "sprites" editor.
Features found in QuickTime 3 and 4 are also gone in later versions. Simple things like cross fades and transitions require 12 year old PPC apps that are hard to find.
Those of us that answer questions here do not work for Apple. We are just users like you.
It seems like Apple is moving toward Automator "actions" and away from AppleScript. But the dictionary for QuickTime Player is pretty slim.

Help with Automator Script for QuickTime Pro Movie Conversion from Vado

All my videos from my Creative Vado do not show up in iMovie 09 initially on import. By trial and error, I have discovered that the old version of QuickTime Pro 7 ($29.95) will convert them to .mov files that can be seen by iMovie 09 once the converted videos are imported back into iPhoto.
I am (very) new to mac things, and it looks like in theory I could use Automator to handle to conversion process, and perhaps even the re-import into iPhoto. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about this? Where would be a good site to post this as a project that I could pay some one to help me, provide an automator script/workflow?
Are any other solutions available? Buy Final Cut etc?
PS (Rant): One of the reasons I bought a MacBook Pro and iLife was to take advantage of what I thought was supposed to be Apple's superior multimedia handling. It seems ludicrous to me that with a MacBook Pro running the latest software (10.6.4), and using the latest versions of iLife, I'd have to buy an old version of QuickTime to convert my videos so that I could manipulate them in iMovie. Sigh.

East Asian language support for adding closed captions (Japanese)

I am trying to add Japanese subtitles to my project as closed captions. However, once added the Japanese captions show as little white boxes in the preview pane.
Is there no way to add Asian language support so it displays?
I am using Premiere Pro CC (US English version although I am located in Japan).

Is your Mac connected to an internet connection?
Is your device unlocked and you are using a different carrier than that of the one branded to your device?
Backup your device data and reinstall your software as shown in KB19915; once the reload completes try going back into the Add/Remove applications tab.

What is the best solution for using closed caption for music

Hi
I have been playing around with closed caption and used Windows Media Player and smi.
But now I wanted to do a try with flash and since I'm not a regular flash user I tried to use.
Sound object, Xml, textbox and a timer, and it worked okay in email and local testing.
But when I tried it on a server (site) it only worked if the xml file was stored on the same site.
What I have today is a asp.net page that generate the xml file and I want to be able to load this xml into flash used on other domains

Thank you both! I didn't realize Apple offered a USB modem to use with dial-up. That's what I'll suggest to her, since it's only $49.
I did read a handful of unfavorable reviews for the modem on its Apple Store page (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=B1B 86210&fnode=home/shopmac/macaccessories/networking&nplm=MA034Z/A) -- people having trouble getting all 56k out of it, along with having problems with AOL and various ISPs. Any knowledge of this and whether it's widespread or likely isolated to a few incidents? She is not at all computer savvy, and I just want her to have a beautiful, seamless, and stress-free switch from Windoze to Mac like I did.

Trying to work on a script for QuickTime X, need help

So, I've been working on scripts to restore some functionality back to QuickTime X (mainly the preferences part of QuickTime).

I'm now trying to implement the "Recent Items" selection.
I almost have it all set up. It still won't make the selection though >_< The script won't open when I'm in QuickTime (via the script menu. all of the others open just fine. Have to run it from the AppleScript Editor to test it out). All of the individual Terminal commands work just fine though. Oh & there's an invalid connection with QuickTime apparently >_<

Thank you. The script now loads but, the preference never stays set. I chose "5" & the recent items still continue to be added to the recent items list. I've got 10 items in my "recent items" list even though I chose "5". The Terminal commands themselves work fine though

I took out the "Restore Defaults" because, according to the Terminal
There is no (NSRecentDocumentsLimit) default for the (com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX) domain.

Where can i find closed captioning guidelines for formatting and styling for EBU-STL that suit iTunes USA ?

I am trying developing closed captions for my film that is to be submitted within iTunes USA.
I can't seem to find any current styling and formatting guidelines for these closed captions. I understand that they are meant to be EBU-STL...
Does anyone know where these can be found?

Movies playing in iTunes will not show closed captions

I have purchased several movies from the iTunes store. They all have Closed Captioning listed in the store description. I need Closed Captioning because I have hearing loss and even with my hearing aids, I cannot hear all the dialogue in movies.
In my iTunes app, I opened Preferences-->Playback and checked the box for "Show closed captioning when available." Then I play the movie in iTunes. No captions. I click on the Controls menu for Audio & Subtitles. It's grayed out.
I go to the .m4v file in Finder and open the movie with Quicktime to see whether I can get captions that way. No captions. I check the View menu for Show Closed Captioning. It's grayed out.
At this point I'm thinking these movies do not really HAVE captions, despite what the store description said. However, this proves to be wrong because I turn on my TV and start up my Apple TV 3. I select "Movies" and then "Purchased" and find these movies. When I play these movies via the Apple TV, they all show up on the TV screen with the captions working perfectly.
So, what gives? I've spent hours searching the internet for a solution, but all I can find is that the selection I've made in iTunes preferences *should* make the captions show up in iTunes. I'm stumped. I want to play the movies on my computer in iTunes (or in Quicktime) so that I don't have to be at my house in front of my TV in order the enjoy them. Is there any way I can make these movies play in iTunes with the captions showing? Can anyone make any suggestions? I'd be very grateful if someone could help me achieve this goal.

I have same problem with my son's iPod Touch running iOS 5.1.1. I set "explicit" to off, but then many songs we purchased on iTunes that are labeled as "clean" do not show up on his iPod Touch. If I set "explicit" to on, they do show up.

Premiere CC support Closed Captions with mpeg2, mpg, ts import and export embedded

Using a side-car file is not an option. This question is about embedded closed caption files.
Will Adobe Premiere Creative Cloud support the import of closed captioned data from already captioned mpg, ts, mpeg2 video files, and will it support the export of mpg, ts, mpeg2 video with closed captions embedded? If they are adding this feature, do you know when? At least a rough estimate?
I create content that broadcasts ON DEMAND for major cable television providers and currently we are working with Mac Caption/ Caption Maker and Manzanita to individually caption each video. We need the ability to take the finalized captioned content and occasionally cut sections out and replace with other finalized captioned content. We wanted to do this without needing to RE-Caption every video after we export from Premiere, as that will add many additional hours of work per video.
Researching online I found that CC supports the import and export of embedded QuickTime closed captioned files. Our provider's standards are mpg/ts. One youtube video I found said that Adobe was adding mpeg2/ts support for closed captioning but I can not find any official word on the subject.
I appreciate any and all help/information on the subject.

Pausing and restarting closed caption and audio

Can anyone help me with this issue - I have 2 sets of closed captions on one slide with audio that spans the both closed captions. I pause the audio at the end of closed caption one using a click box, when I restart it by clicking on the click box the audio plays the remaining content but the closed caption box will not display the 2nd lot of text????

I found a workarround (using the fact that Video Closed Caption is working corect):
Export the MP3 (from the library)
Remove slide audio (Audio > remove > Slide)
Convert MP3 to FLV with Adobe Media Encoder or a similar tool. Make the dimensions as small as possible
Insert Slide Video (Insert > Slide Video …)
Add the text for the Closed Captions to the video (Video > Edit Video Timing … > tab Closed Captioning
Mask the video on the stage with a rectangle (I tried to drag the video from the stage but you won't hear the audio)

How to remove closed captions?

The procedure says
1 Press the Menu button on your remote control.
2 Select Settings.
3 Select Accessibility.
4 Select Close Captions.
5 Select either On or Off and press OK.
However, under the menu Settings, I don't have the selection Accessibility
So, how do I do? Wher do I find the Accessibity sub-menu?

The HD DVR (6416) boxes are the only box that do closed captioning from the box. All others pass that information straight through to the TV. This means you will have to check the TV's menu for its closed captioning setting, which can be accomplished either with the original TV remote or by using the fios remote and pressing TV then menu to bring up the TV's menu.

CP5 and Closed Captioning

How can I adjust the timing of the CC? I would like to move some to match the audio better.
I had hoped I could change the timing on the slide audio window but can't see how.

Hi,
After you have added closed captions to slides, go to 'closed caption dialog'. You can reach here by following shortcut "ctrl-alt-c" or by using menu item Audio > Edit > Slide" and select tab "closed captioning"
On top of the waveform, you will see black colored markers. Click and drag these markers to adjust the timings of every closed caption created on that slide. Changes in timing by dragging of marker is reflected in the timings mentioned below for every closed captions.

Closed Captions in Captivate 7

I am a "power user" of Captivate, and have just migrated from version 6 to version 7. A vast improvement by the way.
So far, it appears that I can only write closed captions one slide at a time. But there are various solutions in other "cloud" software that I'd like to see Captivate 7 incorporate.
What about writing closed captions "on-the-fly"? Instead of saving each slide's captions and closing the dialogue box, why not just advance to the next slide and continue writing closed captions? If one types more slowly, why not use the "tab" key or something similar to pause the audio until the typing catches up with it? This would be a tremendously convenient feature.
What about auto-captioning in the way that it's done in Adobe Presenter Video Creator 9? For slower typists, this feature would allow for editing words that did not translate properly, conveniently. Please note that YouTube, too, offers auto-captioning in a like manner.
These are two features that could go into an incremental upgrade of Captivate 7, no? If not, then please release Captivate 8 with these features ASAP!
For higher education, the context for creating closed captions is urgent and very high priority. Landmark court cases are forcing our college, and likewise all others, to ramp up accessibility and to do it as quickly as possible. The features I'm suggesting would facilitate that ramp-up.

Closed captions on advanced action (play audio)

Been using CP8 for awhile now and have a question about closed captioning with advanced actions.
I have a single slide with audio that plays when the slide starts. Also has 4 action buttons on the slide. I wanted to force the user to click all four buttons before the slide would continue. Each button press would also play an audio file.
I created an advanced action for each button that sets it's own button variable to "1", enables the visibility on the highlight objects for that button area, and plays an associated audio file for that button area. The advanced action also tests to see if all four button variables are set to 1. If true, it enables a continue button to go to the next slide.
My problem is that for the closed captioning, I only get CC on the intro audio. I can't seem to figure out how to get the CC for the audio played by the advanced action. It just shows the original CC for the main slide.
Is there a way to change the CC contents from within the advanced actions so that when they click the button, it plays the audio and changes the CC? I cannot use other boxes to display the CC info. It has to be in the CC box.
Otherwise, I'm looking at creating a separate slide for each button click (jump to slide X) which plays the audio and CC. I was trying to avoid having 5 slides instead of one.
Any suggestions?

Only slide audio appears in CC, not object audio. You will have to add text containers that you show if cpCmndCC is set to 1, and hide if it is set to 0.
