Script task within child package - breakpoint wont hit, trying to find missing variable

Im calling a child package and its failing on a script task with a message which indicates one of the variables cant be found
The script threw an exception: The element cannot be found in a collection.
So I remove the readonly/readwrite section, and place a breakpoint on the very first line of the script task. When I run the main package, by breakpoint on the child package script task isnt hit but I still get the error about the missing variable.
How can I find out which variable its complaining about?

You can raise an event in the script using FireInformation and pass into it the variable content as string
examples:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms136054.aspx?cs-save-lang=1&cs-lang=csharp#code-snippet-1
The variable content will put into the Output window (go to View menu to enable it).

  • Unable to Open Script task in SSIS packages in Microsoft visual studio

    TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio

    for use on this computer.
    Contact Information:

    Hi Covaikumar,
    The issue may occur because the Script Task is not installed properly. Please check whether the Microsoft.SqlServer.ScriptTask.dll file exists in the following folders (supposing it is a 64-bit platform):
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\Tasks
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\Tasks
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.SqlServer.ScriptTask\v4.0_11.0.0.0__89845dcd8080cc91
    If the Microsoft.SqlServer.ScriptTask.dll file is missing in any of the folders, copy one (from the other folders or a different working SSIS server) to the folder. Alternatively, you can also use the command line tool gacutil.exe to install the task assembly
    into the global assembly cache (GAC).

  • Pass variables to child via C# script task ?

    I don't want to use package configurations to pass variables from Parent to child package. I'd prefer to pass the variables to child, from a  C# script task in the parent package. Can this be done ? Here is the pseudocode for what I hope to do -
    //code in script task of parent package
    Main(){
    Object parentObj = SSIS.ParentPackage.myObject;
    String parentStr =  SSIS.ParentPackage.myString;
    callChildPackage(parentObj, parentStr);

    You have four choices for this:
    Use Parent-Child variable configurations
    Place the value in a variable in the parent package, which can be referenced from the child package, when run with an Execute Package Task. (http://agilebi.com/jwelch/2009/10/03/passing-an-object-from-a-parent-package-to-a-child)
    Take over the execution of the child package entirely executing the package from inside your C# script task.
    Use something like the Task Factory Advanced Execute Package task. (Full Disclosure: I work for Pragmatic Works)
    Item 3 is probably closest to what you want. You'd need to use the Package.Execute method to run the child package yourself. The advantage of doing that is you can set child package variables explicitly before executing the package.

  • Single XML configuration file for all the SSIS packages(including parent and child packages)

    Hi
    I have some 16 ssis packages. source Db and destination Db for these packages are common. I am calling these child packages in a master package.
    I want to use only one XML config file for this master.
    How do i use same for all child packages?
    and can i do it with parent package variable?

    I created a master package with a variable master, and in value i have entered the configuration file path.
    Hi vjp dinu,
    You should create variables in the parent package to pass values to variables in each child package rather than pass the file path of the XML Configurations file of the parent package.
    As Visakh mentioned, you can achieve your goal by creating corresponding variables in the parent package for each child package, and enable Package Configurations for the parent package so that you can control the values through the XML Configurations file
    for the variables of the parent package.
    Supposing there is a variable FilePath in child package 1, a variable ServerName in child package 2, then, we need to create two variables pFilePath, pServerName in the parent package. After configuring the Parent package variable in each child package (e.g.
    mapping pFilePath to FilePath, pServerName to ServerName), you can enable XML Configurations for the parent package, and expose the value property for both pFilePath and pServerName variables. In this way, you can modify the XML Configurations file of the
    parent package and the specified values will passed to the child packages.

  • [Solved] Trying to set environment variables in script

    I'm trying to create a script that will pass environment variables that will stay valid after the script exits.
    The problem with this is that (by design?) when executing a script it opens a child environment, and inherits the environmental variables from the parent.
    The issue is that the child cannot interact with the parent's environment so setting variables like:
    export http_proxy='http://server:port'
    wont stay valid once the script exits. I've verified this by trying to echo the variable once the script completes, and i receive an empty reply.
    The only work around I have for this is to include this within a bash profile, however I cant just keep adding scripts into my bash profile, because that seems counter-intuitive.
    Is there any way to do what I'm trying to do? Or am I just grabbing at straws here?
    below is my code for my script, perhaps I've done something wrong...
    proxy=x.x.x.x
    port=#
    username=domain\\username
    password=userpassword
    export http_proxy='http://$username\:$password@$proxy\:$port'
    export ftp_proxy='ftp://$username\:$password@$proxy\:$port'
    exit

    One thing to note is that you should specify the sourced file by its path so it includes a slash, quoting bash(1):
    source filename [arguments]
    Read and execute commands from filename in the current shell environment
    and return the exit status of the last command executed from filename.
    If filename does not contain a slash, file names in PATH are used to find
    the directory containing filename. The file searched for in PATH need
    not be executable. When bash is not in posix mode, the current directory
    is searched if no file is found in PATH. If the sourcepath option to the
    shopt builtin command is turned off, the PATH is not searched
    So if sourcepath is set (as by default), you can end up sourcing the wrong file, e.g.
    source file
    (DON'T do it!)
    will really source /usr/bin/file, even if you have 'file' in current directory.
    Instead, always specify the path,
    source ./file
    Keep this in mind or you're in for a big surprise.

  • Error While executing a SSIS package which contains a script task through SQL Server Agent job

    Hi,
    I have a SQL Server 2012 SSIS package with a script task along with other tasks [data flow, execute sql tasks ]. When I manually executed the job through BIDS, its completed successfully.
    Then I have automated the execution of the package through SQL Server Agent Job. But when I executed the package through SQL Agent job, it runs successfully for all the tasks except script task. When it comes to execute the Script Task, it is getting failed
    with the below error message.

    I have installed the SSIS on the 64-bit environment and SSIS service is running. Also I tried to run the job through 32 bit [job option] but I am getting the above error in all cases.
    Any help will be greatly appreaciated !

  • SSIS PACKAGE MIGRATION FROM 2005 to 2008 - Script task/component errors

    HI All,
    We have to migrate ssis packages (about 300) from ssis 2005 to 2008 .
    1. I understand that the major concern is regarding the script component/tasks.
    I searched a lot about this and also consulted with many friends , all of them are aware of this issue but not able to provide what could be the issues and the solution.
    Can some one help me with the common script issues that can happen during migration and the solution for the same.
     2. I do have one more question.
    As per my understanding given in the below link
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mattm/archive/2008/03/21/package-upgrade-wizard.aspx
    there is this part which says ...
    Once the packages have been chosen, the next page asks you to pick the output location. This can be:
    Same as the source location
    File System
    SSIS Service (Package Store)
    SQL Server
    Does this mean I can deploy in sql server directly on fly while upgrading ?
    Any help highly appreciated .
    Regards
    Praveen..

    Hi Praveen,
    Question 1: The error may occur if there are duplicate input columns in the Script Task/Component or the current user cannot access the C:\Windows\Temp directory. Except for the link provided by SanBhaumik, you can also refer to the following
    threads:
    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic811208-148-1.aspx
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/5c11eb57-59d6-4f81-bfdc-13bd6489a0ac/sql-server-2008-ssis-package-script-component-error?forum=sqlintegrationservices
    Question 2: We can directly save the package to the File System, SSIS Package Store, or SQL Server by selecting the proper destination during the package upgrade. However, this operation is not equal to the package install operation identically.
    For example, if we have enabled package configurations for a package, the package configurations won’t be upgraded or installed during the package upgrade.

  • Problems creating an SSIS package: adding a script task causes data at root level is invalid error

    I am trying to create my first SSIS package using SQL 2012 Server Data Tools which will invoke a script task.  I added the script task, put in the code, and when I try to test out the package, I get a "data at the root level is invalid" error
    message.  I tried creating a new project from scratch, did a build and run w/in the IDE (with no code behind), worked ok.  Added the script task (with no code behind), and I get the same error.
    Can someone please point me in the right direction?

    Are you sure it is not XML?
    How would I repro the issue?
    Please share all the steps, but I think the code has an issue.

  • SSIS script task using visual c# 2012 language when creating package in Visual Studio 2013

    Is it right or my installation was all wrong.
    When I am trying to use a script task in an SSIS package using Visual Studio 2013, the available languages are visual c# and VB 2012.
    I was expecting to find visual c# and VB 2013 since I was using Visual Studio 2013.
    I already installed the "Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013" available for sql 2014
    Please help clarify this. Thanks beforehand.
    Paulino

    Hi Paulino,
    According to your description, the ScriptLanguage property of C# script tasks show "Microsoft Visual C# 2012” in SSDT-BI for VS 2013.
    After testing the issue in my environment, I can reproduce it in SSDT-BI for VS 2013. And I find that the ScriptLanguage property of C# script tasks show "Microsoft Visual C# 2010” in SSDT, and show "Microsoft Visual C# 2012” in SSDT for SSDT –
    BI for VS2012. It only appear in SSDT-BI for VS 2013.
    The issue is by design. But we can check "Do not show this again." to ignore the dialog and the task can be executed without any problem.

  • Unable to add reference for Excel Object Library for use within Script Task

    I have a requirement to use a Script Tax that needs to reference the Excel Object Model. There are numerous articles on using this such as
    http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mssql/article.php/3921141/SSIS-Script-Task-and-Microsoft-Office-Automation.htm.
    Simply, I need to add a reference to the Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library.
    I have selected this from the Object List on the COM tab and when this adds the reference it states 'The System cannot find the reference specified', even though the referenced file for this Object is C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Excel.exe
    and this file location exists on my local machine ?

    Please search where "Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll" exist in your system and try adding the reference.

    We are migrating the ssis packages from 2005 to 2012.
    I'm unable to convert Activex Script Task from 2005 vesrsion to 2012 because in 2012 version Activex Script Task doesn't exist.
    Can anyone please let me know what is the alternative way to convert Activex Script Task from 2005 vesrsion to 2012?

    Hi Vinay9738,
    Have you tried to upgrade the SSIS 2005 packages to SSIS 2012 packages by using the SSIS Package Upgrade wizard? In certain cases, ActiveX script in SSIS won’t work and we need to either modify the script or replace the ActiveX Script with stock SSIS
    tasks. You can find the mapping between some most common patterns used in DTS ActiveX Script and SSIS native tasks from the following link:
    http://help.pragmaticworks.com/dtsxchange/scr/ActiveX%20Script%20Task.htm
    Here is also a useful link about how to convert ADODB object of ActiveX Script to SSIS tasks:

    Anyone know how to correct?
    Thanks,
    MIke

    Nope
    You cant have forms etc added to script task inside SSIS and make it interactive
    If your intention is to pass a value from outside you need to make use of configurations or use command line arguments with utilities like dtexec.

    I not familiar and i don't know any thing about  C#,  but i am learning SSIS on my own.
    I tried to send mail to gmail  using script task , both sender and receiver with same mail ID using variables which i tried using tutorial i found from the below link.

    [quote]Error: The script returned a failure result.[/quote]
    Can you all please help me in  finding where i am going wrong? please check below code which i have used in script task.
    Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Script Task
    Write scripts using Microsoft Visual C# 2008.
    The ScriptMain is the entry point class of the script.
    using System;
    using System.Data;
    using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime;
    using System.Windows.Forms;
    using System.Text.RegularExpressions;
    using System.Net.Mail;
    namespace ST_9bc84810a62a401aa44ddd905bcd369d.csproj
    [System.AddIn.AddIn("ScriptMain", Version = "1.0", Publisher = "", Description = "")]
    public partial class ScriptMain : Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.ScriptTask.VSTARTScriptObjectModelBase
    #region VSTA generated code
    enum ScriptResults
    Success = Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DTSExecResult.Success,
    Failure = Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DTSExecResult.Failure
    #endregion
    The execution engine calls this method when the task executes.
    To access the object model, use the Dts property. Connections, variables, events,
    and logging features are available as members of the Dts property as shown in the following examples.
    To reference a variable, call Dts.Variables["MyCaseSensitiveVariableName"].Value;
    To post a log entry, call Dts.Log("This is my log text", 999, null);
    To fire an event, call Dts.Events.FireInformation(99, "test", "hit the help message", "", 0, true);
    To use the connections collection use something like the following:
    ConnectionManager cm = Dts.Connections.Add("OLEDB");
    cm.ConnectionString = "Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=AdventureWorks;Provider=SQLNCLI10;Integrated Security=SSPI;Auto Translate=False;";
    Before returning from this method, set the value of Dts.TaskResult to indicate success or failure.
    To open Help, press F1.
    public void Main()
    string sSubject = "Test Subject";
    string sBody = "Test Message";

    Dts.TaskResult = (int)ScriptResults.Success;
