Script to change Volume for TimeMachine?

Hello,
could anyone help me with a script that changes the volume for use with Time Machine?
My parents are using their laptops about half the time at home with a Time Capsule. The other half, they stay at the office, equipped with a second Time Capsule which is used for all the other Macs at the office.
We are using MarcoPolo (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/networking_security/marcopolo.html) to change printer settings and other things.
MarcoPolo is also able to perform own scripts. I want to use this feature, to allow Time Machine to back up to both Time Machines automatically without switching the TM volume manually in the system prefs.
But I don't have any experience in scripting, so I really would appreciate your help.

there is no nice way to do this. this operation is not scriptable. the best you can do is use GUI scripting which essentially records what you do on the screen. this can be done with automator. see this thread for details.

However, any kind of script like that is bound not to be very reliable as a user can easily accidentally interfere with it while the script is running.

Wlst script to change values for Logging.

Hi,
i am trying to write a wlst script to change attributes for the following.( i am new to wlst scripting)
For all servers in a domain,
Logging --> General --> Check Limit number of retained files
--> Files to retain to different number.
--> Log file Severity Level
--> Standard out Severity Level
--> Demain log broadcaster Severity level
--> Memory Buffer Severity Level
Logging --> HTTP --> Check Limit number of retained files
--> Files to retain to different number.
I was able to figure out the path for some of the attributes in Logging --> General.

Can you help in finding the paths for above attributes.

Thanks for the response. I was able to figure out that access.log file attributes are in /Servers/AdminServer/WebServer/AdminServer/WebServerLog/AdminServer.
And now i trying change script to apply for all the servers.
when i use for loop it is failing. any thougts on it. may i know the syntax in this case..

Change volume for whole audio track

I feel like I am missing something obvious ...
I have a stereo background noise that recurs across my sequence. It is pasted into audio tracks A13 and A14 with crossfades between each occurrence. I want to fade the volume of all of them at the same time (i.e. all of the audio clips pasted into A13 and A14). whats more, had you already manually adjusted some clips but not others and then wanted to adjust all the clips to the same level regardless of your previous adjustment then there's really no need to remove levels attributes, or redit etc etc ... you just follow the same steps posted above, choosing "Absolute" as the Gain adjustment - all clips regardless of previous levels will be set to the absolute level you specify.

Changing volume for phone calls.

is there any way to change the volume for phone calls besides the outside volume key?? I tried "sounds" in settings and it did not work.

Your volume switches work differently depending on what you are doing. You may get a readout above the "speaker" symbol that appears on the screen telling you what volume is being adjusted.
If you are not using anything, the volume switches adjust the ringer volume.
If you are playing music or video, they adjust the music/video volume.
If your headphone are plugged in, they adjust the headset volume.
If you are actually on a call, the adjust the earpiece volume or speakerphone volume (without a readout).
If you are on a phone call using bluetooth, they adjust the bluetooth volume.
Dial a recording like the National Time Signal (303) 499-7111 and adjust the volume during the call.

Permanently changing volume for video files to iPod

I've got a bunch of old-time musical shorts from the 30's which I've saved in .mp4 format so I can also view them on my iPod. However, many of these files are of low volume, and all of them vary greatly from each other. This is getting a bit annoying.
Is there some way of permanently changing, and standardizing the volume of these files before I transfer them to my iPod?

There is no way to change them automatically, but you can change the volume level for each video manually.
Select the video in iTunes and open the "Get Info" window (command + I or file -> Get Info). Select the options tab and use the volume adjustment slider to correct the volume. Then tap the "OK" button.
This is a trial and error procedure, but if you have enough patience, you'll get things more to your liking.

Script to change language for all style lables in one click

We are a dutch pre press company and often we get (English or French or German) books that are translated into Dutch. And often the copublisher has created documents with 80+ stylelables. It is quite a pain to change all stylelables one by one into Dutch (for dictionary and correct hypenation). Quark has an option to save a document as multi language or singe language. With the last option the programme asks for the desired language and all stylelables are immediately changed to (in my case) Dutch. That works great. Maybe someone out there has a script to achive the same in Indesign (5 or 5.5?) Thanks in advance!

I have been trying for a long time to change the paragraph composer of all paragraph styles in a document, say from Adobe Paragraph composer to Adobe single-line composer. Nothing goes. Do you know how I can do that? I work with the french version and the composers are named: Compositeur de paragraphe Adobe and Compositeur ligne simple Adobe. The following works for a paragraph style if i refer explicitely to its name. But then, I don't gain much. So I want to find a way to change ALL paragraph styles at once. Your help would be great.

Check, if you have a volume automation set on the software instrument track.
If the track volume automation curve is enabled, the volume slider for the track will move with the automation curve.
Click the automation curves disclosure triangle in the track header and disable the volume automation.

I am running a MacBook Pro with 10.7.5 and I downloaded the OS X 10.10.2 Update Combo, however when I try and open the package the error message "This volume is used for TimeMachine-backups". Which is not true. I´m using TimeCapsule.

I am using a MacBook Pro (2010) with 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB, 1067 MHz, DDR3, Startvolume Macintosh HD.
After downloading the package and starting upgrading it asks acceptance of the license-agreement. After that it asks for the volume were to install. And when I click on the Startvolume Macintosh HD (which is the only available on the machine) it says: "The volume is already being used for Time Machine-Backups".
It doesn´t offer to skip that point or to reconfigure the Time Machine settings.
The point is that my Time machine is not and has never used the Mac HD for Backups. In the past I have used an external drive and since 05/2014 I am using a Time Capsule which is appropriately addressed in the Time Machine settings.

You don't need iChat.
It should not be on there at all.
If the iCon in the DOCK looks like this then it is linked to iChat 4.
You should be able to Right/Control click that and get it to "Show in Finder"

Did you try going to the WLST documentation and searching for it? Go to [http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs92/pdf/config_scripting.pdf] and search for "Changing a Password". The example there seems to be what you need.

Changing devices for ASM Volumes

Hi,
I have a two node RAC Cluster Setup 10gR2.
I created the ASM Volumes for the database,during the configuration, by the commands
# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/sdb2
I have three Volumes made of /devsdb2, /dev/sdb3 and /dev/sdb4.
Is there a way I can change the devices to /dev/sdd2,/dev/sdd3 and /dev/sdd4 for the ASM Volumes.

But seriously, the rc.local file is not in */etc/init.d/*
It is in */etc*
Infact, I have created a file rc.local in */etc/init.d/*, made the entries, and restarted the system, but of no use.
Then I found the rc.local file in */etc*, made the changes and tested by restarting the system, and it worked.

I had this problem on an IMac and I finally found a solution in an unlikely place. The problem was a security setting. I don't remember right this moment the exact setting and I am not on that machine right now but when I am I will try to retrace my steps to the fix. In the meantime check your security settings and any browser or browser extensions for computer log off settings. These settings are intended to prevent unauthorized use and incidentally screw up your backups. Hope this helps.

PS script to change printers and check for default

We have a large project of renaming printers due to some linux devises that do not agree with our naming convention. I am new to ps so looking for some direction.
Our current printers are say 'print$1' and we are changing to 'print1' basically just removing the dollar sign.
We have batch files for the helpdesk for new imaged machines so they will get the new names, no problem but for the people that have been here, how can I create a script that will do the following:
1. allow me to put old printer > replace with new printer
2. detect if old printer is default and make new printer default.
3. only affect the printers that are currently installed on the pc
note we have multiple locations and alot of print servers.

I believe he wants to rename the printers on the client workstation. Group Policy can do that very easily
You can also add to your ProintManager script to have it generate the GP objects and add the users or computers to them. Most of the time is is easier to just use ProntManager GUI unless you have hundreds of printers If it is only a dozedn then
a non-scripter would be better off running the GUI.
We moved about 30 printers for 100 accounts in about one hour the first time we set up PrintManager. This included an upgrade to 64 bit drivers which was the biggest issue. A rename is very much easier. I can rename 30 probters with the GUI in
about 2 minutes.
It is resetting the client systems that is the issue. If they are beoing set by GP or through a login script then this, too, is easy. If they are just attached in different ways then I recommend that Group Policy is the only way to reset them
without spending a month trying to design a script that will work for all systems.
If this is for a WS2003 spooler then you can still use Group Policy Preferences it you install the AD updates or have WS2008 domain controllers.
Placing all printers under PrintManager control is the absolute best method.
If all printers are not Windows printers - (Unix spolers or JetDirect/Network) then you will have to create a script that can find every pronter and rename it on every system. This will be very difficult to do and will likely take quite a while to
accomplish in a large network.
GP can install printers at the machine level and update drivers. This will work well except if you are using non-Windows compliant printers. I have never had this scenario work smoothly on an older network. This is one reason why
I do everything I can to force Admins to use PrintManager for all printers WIndows and Unix. We also try to be sure the location awareness is enabled and that all locations are tagged in AD. This allows users to browse easily for local and remote
printers. We set initial default but user4s are always allowed to change the default if they want and know how. Users are allowed to print to all "group" printers and departmental printers but not to personal printers. In some cases
all users in a group can print to each others personal printers.
I am now working on getting wireless printers set up for use by visitors, guests and salespeople. Every group should have a wireless printer and know the hidden SSID. I notice that many universities and hospitals are now doing this for the convenience
of visitors. I can priont from my phone almost everywhere I go lately.
Use PrintManager. It will save you a lot of trouble. Once set up PowerShell can script everything very nicely. Gaff's code will always be the easier way to do most things.
If you look in the repository/Gallery you will see many PowerShell PrintManger scripts and tools. -
I should also note that Gaff's suggestion to use WMI will only work in a login script and will not work well on system connected printers which will have to be done remotely. Again, it all depends on how your environment is set up.

Can I change the volume for watching movies? I have my volume control on my iPad 2 at max

My iTunes downloaded movies is less than max. It makes it hard to listen in place like an airplane. I can change the volume for my music and it plays very loud. The volume control on my iPad2 is max.

If these are purchase movies and not rentals, from iTunes, on your computer, you can select the movie in iTunes, use the key combination command-I to get the info on the movie. A info window pops up. Click the Options tab, a volume slider appears at the top of the window, slide the slider all the way to the the right, click the OK button at the bottom of the window. Then reconnect and sync your iPad, again, to the computer and wait for the movie to update to your iPad, then once everything is complete, eject the iPad from the left hand pane and disconnect. When you play the movie, again, from the iPad, the volume should be louder.
I do not believe you can do this with rented iTunes movies, though as I do not think they are editable as a rental.

Have you ever even used skype on an iphone or ipod? We tried it and there is no way to type to each other while you are video chatting. You can do the typing during the video on a COMPUTER, but not on an iphone or ipod.
