Script validation in Jsp page

We have used the following code snippet in my Jsp page.
window.onbeforeunload = function (evt)
                         var message = 'Waring message';
                         if (typeof evt == 'undefined')
                              evt = window.event;
                         if (evt && (evt.clientX <0 || evt.clientY <0)) {
                              return message;
We introduced this code when the user navigates to other screen without saving current change we wanted to give warning message.
This is working when the user click back,refresh,front butons and entering new URL in address bar.
Below address bar we are having menu link(Link Sun forums link avilable below address bar).If the user clicks new menu this event is not capured.Becuase of that we are not getting warning message. Please let me know how to capture that event too..
Thanks,
Sujeeth

As Balus stated, this is not the right forum:)
You should read about javascript and html, but I'll try to explain very quickly
1) window is the object representing the page loaded
2) it has some default event handler, and in javascript you have the right to overwrite them, as you are doing
3) to bind event handler, in general, you should retrieve a reference to the object in javascript, and then add an event listener. There are some cross-browser compatibilities for that and i suggest you to use Yahoo UI libraries to work that out:)

  • Executing a shell script from a jsp page

    Hi,
    I'm facing a problem while executing a shell script from a jsp page.
    I'm using Runtime.exec() function.
    It's working fine for single statement scripts.But if the script consists of any database processing and some other processing statements,it's not returning the correct exit status of the process.
    Will u please help me in this.
    If there is any other ways to execute a shell script from a jsp page other than Runtime.exec() like RMI etc,.If so let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    It's hard to help you but what you can do is listening to the outputs of your script, you should read the output stream and error stream and send them to the default console.
    Check this excellent article : http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html?page=4

    Are you talking about server-side java code (servlets/jsp) or client side (applet)? Given we are in the JSP forum I'll assume we're talking server side.
    If so, you are making a common but fundamental mistake. JavaScript executes on the client, not on the server. If you want client data on the server it has to get there somehow. The simplest way to do this in JSP land is via HTTP. So... have your JavaScript code call a JSP (or servlet) and pass the value you want as a URL parameter. Of course this will also change the browser location, so if you don't want this to happen use a frame or iframe to capture your HTTP request.
    For example:
    Javascript....
    function someFunction() {
    return 1;
    var value = someFunction();
    location.href="somejsp.jsp?value=" + value;

  • JSP Page - HTML fields validator

    We are designing this new project, which involves writing lots of JSP pages. Now the HTML pages will be designed by Web designer. but the actual code for JSP page will be written by developers.
    We have a repository containing field names. This repository can be in XML file/DB etc.
    Our requirement is that the web designer can develop any HTML page but the field names should only be from the given repository. So do we have any development tool(s) which can do the same? or do we have any web page validator? or can somebody suggest what will be the best way to do it, if we have to develop some code

    Hi Rahul,
    You can print your dynamically generated jsp page by using Javascript code
    Try this code in the head region
    <script language="Javascript">
    function print()
    document.print();
    </script>
    in the hyperlink <a href="Javascript:print();>print</a>
    keep me posted on your progress..

  • How can I use normal JSP-Scripting in Studio Creator pages ?

    Hello,
    if I try to integrate for example
    <jsp:scriptlet>
    for(int i=0; i < 10; i++) {
    out.println("Txt: " + i);
    </jsp:scriptlet>
    in my JSP Page it dosn't wok because the IDE complains that the jsp-document isn't wellformed due to the < sign.
    If you replace the < by and < the IDE dosn't complain any longer but you get an runtime error during execution of the page because the jsp-page can't be compiled by the jsp-compiler.
    Does everybody nows how to integrate normal jsp-scripting in the page

    Hi
    I have not copied any jar files to any folders. The default installation executes this code without any compilation errors. I am running this on Sun Application Server. I have not tried on Tomcat. But if it asks for tools.jar, you can copy this jar file to <creator-root>/java/lib directory or <Creator-root>/SunAppServer8/lib directory.
    Thanks

  • Validation in JSP

    Hi,
    I am stuck with validation on same jsp page:
    Here is the detail:
    I have a couple of input fields in form, and if users enter wrong name and id
    the validation error will be shown on the same jsp page.
    I know there is no problem if using struts validation function.
    But for my case, is just simple jsp without other component replying on.
    How to achieve this?
    Actually the original validation logic is done by jave script
    which collected all error message into formated variable,
    The popup window for error message display will be shown once users click submit button
    Any help?

    use another jsp/servlet to do the logic on the
    validating then on the
    input jsp.it must forward to your input form jsp so
    you can repopulate the values of the fields.. you can
    have the following codes:
    validator.jsp:
    //validate here
    <%if(success){%>
    <jsp:forward page="success.jsp"/>
    <%}else{%>
    <jsp:forward page="input.jsp?err=error"/>
    <%}%>input.jsp
    <%
    String err =
    request.getParameter("err")!=null?request.getParameter
    ("err"):"none";
    String field1 =
    request.getParameter("feild1")!=null?request.getParame
    ter("feild1"):"";
    if(!err.equals("none")){
    %>
    <%=err%>
    <%}%>
    <input type="text" value="<%=field1%>"
    name="feild1"/>
    Raw scriptlet code? When you could and should be using JSTL? Bad idea.

  • STRUTS: client-side validation in jsp using  DynaValidatorForm

    I am supposed to work on struts on as project and it is like learning a crash course and work the next day.
    In Struts 1.1 enviroment, I am using DynaValidatorForm to create a bean form and then perform validation.
    1. I write a DynaValidatorForm definition in struts-config.xml
    2. I write xml for action so that when /getQuotes.do in invoked by a jsp form, the form data is put into the QuoteDetailsBean.
    3. add the plugin script for ValidatorPlugIn
    xml fragment from struts-config:
    //form bean
    <form-beans>
    <form-bean name="QuoteDetailsBean" type="org.apache.struts.validator.DynaValidatorForm">
        <form-property name="forename" type="java.lang.String"/>
       <form-property name="surname" type="java.lang.String"/>
    <form-bean>
    </form-beans>
    <action
            path="/getQuotes"
            type="com.kainos.quickquotes.struts.QQGetQuotesAction"
            validate="true"
            name="QuoteDetailsBean"
            input="/userform1.do"
            parameter="save"
            scope="session">
            <forward name="success" path="/pages/jsp/result.jsp"/>
            <forward name="back" path="/userform1.do"/>
    </action>
    <plug-in className="org.apache.struts.validator.ValidatorPlugIn">
         <set-property
             property="pathnames"
             value="/WEB-INF/validator-rules.xml,/WEB-INF/validation.xml"/>
      </plug-in>Now I write a validation code for getQuotes.do. note that I can write the validation code with
    <form name="QuoteDetailsBean"> but this form bean is shared by many jsp, so i am using the name of the action
    (getQuotes) as the name of the form in the validation.xml.
    So far this looks okay, as I am going by some example.
    xml fragment from validation.xml:
    <formset>
              <form name="/getQuotes">
                 <field property="forename" depends="required,minlength">
                    <arg0 key="QuoteDetailsBean.forename" />
                    <arg1 name="minlength" key="${var:minlength}" resource="false"/>
                    <var>
                       <var-name>minlength</var-name>
                       <var-value>2</var-value>
                    </var>
                 </field>
                 <field property="surname" depends="required,minlength">
                <arg0 key="QuoteDetailsBean.surname" />
                <arg1 name="minlength" key="${var:minlength}" resource="false"/>
                <var>
                   <var-name>minlength</var-name>
                   <var-value>2</var-value>
                </var>
                 </field>
    </formset>Now I write the JSP. I use the <html:javascript> tag to allow front-end validation based on the xml in validation.xml.
    The jsp code:
    <%@ taglib uri="/tags/struts-bean" prefix="bean" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/tags/struts-html" prefix="html" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/tags/struts-logic" prefix="logic" %>
    <html:html locale="true">
    <head>
    <title><bean:message key="welcome.title"/></title>
    <html:base/>
    <html:javascript formName="/getQuotes"
                method="validateForm"
                dynamicJavascript="true"
                staticJavascript="false"
                cdata="false" />
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="#FFCC9F">
    <html:errors />
    <html:form action="getQuotes.do" onsubmit="return validateForm(this);" >
    Forename:</td> <td><html:text property="forename"/></td></tr>
    <tr> <td>Surname:</td> <td><html:text property="surname"/></td></tr>
    <html:submit value="Quotes" /></td></tr>
    </html:form>
    </body>
    </html:html>Does this looks okay. I wrote so far based on some tutorials n help online.
    Now when I open the JSP and then do a submit, there is no validation (I tried by submitting with empty forename and surname. I mean i could invoke the action class and the invoke class
    redirects(forwards) to the appropriate path. so the code works fine except validation is not done
    Q1. So what should i do more to get client-side validation?
    What actually happens in client-side validation? does a pop up alert appears?
    nothing happens so far in my case.
    Q2. What should I do more for server side validation. Since the form is incomplete, what happens?
    I thought the same form returns and the error messages are printed in the jsp page since i have the <html:errors />
    tag just below the <body> tag.
    The action class is pretty simple so far:
    public class QQGetQuotesAction extends Action {
        public QQGetQuotesAction(){
    public ActionForward execute(ActionMapping mapping,
                 ActionForm form,
                 HttpServletRequest request,
                 HttpServletResponse response)
        throws Exception {
            DynaValidatorForm dynaform = (DynaValidatorForm)form;
            System.out.println("forename:"+dynaform.get("forename");
            System.out.println("surname:"+dynaform.get("surname");
            return forward=mapping.findForward("back");
    }Please help me out. I think I am missing something which i need to do
    thanks
    Tanveer

    I think the validations are to be declared on the form
    name and not the action path.
    Your formName is QuoteDetailsBean but your are using
    the action path(/getQuotes) both in the validation
    rules and the jsp tags. Use the formName on both the
    places.
    Also your html:javascript tag will not generate the
    static javascript to validate the fields. For this you
    will have to add code like below.
    <html:javascript dynamicJavascript="false"
    staticJavascript="true"/>
    Other options is to set the attribute
    staticJavascript="true" in your html:javascript tag.
    Hope it helps.hi
    staticJavascript="true" did the trick. :)
    I think the validations are to be declared on the form name and not the action path.It is not necessary. You can declare the validation on the action class. This is essential if a form bean is shared by several JSPs having its own action class. This is as per as I read in a tutorial and it works.

  • Repeater fails using {container.item} context within included JSP pages

    Greetings,
    I'm using Bea Workshop 8.1.2 and netui's based framework.
    I'm experiencing a problem relating to the use of jsp:insert tags as a way of templating the code as to make it more maintainable and cost effective.
    The problem arises when using repeaters and then binding a <netui> tag with a "container.item" context inside the included jsp page.
    Example:
    On a PageController we define on its scope a rather simple data structure:
    public String[] array={"Item1","Item2","Item3"}
    The associated index is as follows:
    index.jsp
    <netui:html>
    <netui-data:repeater dataSource="{pageFlow.array}">
    <netui-data:repeaterHeader></netui-data:repeaterHeader>
    <netui-data:repeaterItem>
    <netui:label value="{container.item}"/><br>
    </netui-data:repeaterItem>
    <netui-data:repeaterFooter></netui-data:repeaterFooter>
    </netui-data:repeater>
    </netui:html>
    This works as expected, it prints the data in the array list. Fine.
    Now, with the <jsp:insert> tag usage, we get two files index.jsp and body.jsp:
    index.html
    <netui:html>
    <netui-data:repeater dataSource="{pageFlow.array}">
    <netui-data:repeaterHeader></netui-data:repeaterHeader>
    <netui-data:repeaterItem>
    <jsp:include page="body.jsp" flush="true"/>
    </netui-data:repeaterItem>
    <netui-data:repeaterFooter></netui-data:repeaterFooter>
    </netui-data:repeater>
    </netui:html>
    body.jsp
    <netui:html>
    <netui:label value="{container.item}"/>
    <netui:label value="{pageFlow.array[0]}"/>
    </netui:html>
    With this example the {container.item} tag fails with this exception:
    "Caught exception when evaluating expression "{container.item}" with available binding contexts [actionForm, pageFlow, globalApp, request, session, appication, pageContext, bundle, container, url, pageInput]. Root cause: com.bea.wlw.netui.script.xscript.IllegalContextStateException: The Tag "com.bea.wlw.netui.tags.html.Label@cb5dce" does not have a valid parent of type DataAccessProvider. The expression "container["item"]" requires a parent of this type."
    BUT - and here is my problem with this - the label tag with {pageFlow.array[0]} PRINTS THE DESIRED ELEMENT.
    Also, on an extended example with a <form> tag around the main index html and the array structure inside a FormData class, {actionForm.array[0]} ALSO PRINTS THE DESIRED ELEMENT.
    Only {container.item} gloriously fails with an exception complaining about IllegalContextStateException.
    This is a total nonorthogonal behaviour, the features do not work as expected and indeed, with the importance of repeaters for netui's development, this preclude us from the minimum standard for structured web application design.
    Does anyone have any clue about this behaviour? If not a fix, at least an explanation...
    Thanks in advance.

    I am trying to insert multiple rows I when submited I am get ting only 1 row in the DatabaseForm.
    my netui.log file shows this error:

    Can anybody help me

    So how i can do thisLet's try this again shall we.
    You said you have previously validated HTML with
    JavaScript right?
    Do the same thing. It works exactly the same. Don't
    ask me how when you know how.(..and ask your questions in a java script forum if you have any problems. Java script isn't Java)

  • Accessing an Activex Component in JSP page

    Hi,
    I am trying to disable header and footer of window's page setup. I am doing that successfully with HTML page. Where as while i am trying the same with JSP it is not disabling the Header and Footer. The code is as shown below :
    <script type="text/vbscript">
    Dim WSHShell
    Set WSHShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    WSHShell.RegWrite "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\PageSetup\header", ""
    WSHShell.RegWrite "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\PageSetup\footer", ""
    </script>
    I think it is not recognizing VBscript.
    Can anybody tell me how to disable the Header and Footer with JSP page.
    Thanks and Best Regards,

    Per the specification, I have set the application
    level resource
    bundle
    as follows:
    <application>
    <message-bundle>com.awolart.MessageResources</message->
    <locale-config>
    <default-locale>en</default-locale>
    </locale-config>
    </application>However, I can not find any references in the
    specification on how to
    access this resource bundle in a jsp.The <message-bundle> element is only useful if you want to override the message strings for the standard conversion and validation error messages produced by the JavaServer Faces implementation (they tell the implementation where to find the replacement text). It is unnecessary to specify this for application-specific resource bundles.

  • .How can I add data from one list to other in Jsp Page

    Hi..I have three multiple selection ListBox..I want to add the selected item from 2 list boxes to 3rd list box how can i do that..do i need to write javascript? If possible then suggest me some link where i can get help?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Chintan

    Yep, Javascript.
    Unless you want to post the data to the server and then rewrite the page (ie. jsp/servlets) then you are going to need to use a client side script to modify the page.
    Javascript. You need to get the onClick() event of one list box and get the item that was clicked. then you can rewrite the 3rd list box.
    If possible, try doing a search on google. Or do you want someone to hold your hand.

  • Issue in applying SSL selectively to Login JSP Page--Session getting lost.

    Hi,
    I am facing some issues with SSL configuration on my web site running on tomcat 5.5. I am using jdk 1.5 and form based authentication with JAAS framework.
    The SSL configuration is working perfectly when applied to complete web site, but starts giving problem when applied selectively to some JSP pages. At present I am trying to apply SSL just on the login page.
    When the login screen loads up, the URL in the browser has a protocol "*https*", as expected, but it doesn't gets changed to "*http*" once the user has successfully logged in. Why is the automatic change from https to http not ocurring?
    Also I want to know which is the default page, tomcat will direct the logged in user to, once successfully authenticated using form based login; Is there any way to change this default page to some other page. It looks like that tomcat automatically directs to index.html , once the user has been successfully authenticated, but I am not so sure. My index.html page is having 4 frames; the source of these frames are different JSP pages, which are not under SSL.
    My aim is to apply SSL just on login.jsp so that password doesn't travel in clear text. Once the user is authenticated he should see index.html and the address bar's URL should change it's protocol from https to http.
    Please, find below the code in my web.xml

    <table width="260" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="1">

    <td align="left" valign="top">
    <input maxLength=\"64\" tabindex="2" type="password" name="j_password" size="20">
    </td>
    </tr>
    </form>
    The entries in my server.xml are following:
    <Connector port="8080" maxHttpHeaderSize="8192"
    maxThreads="150" minSpareThreads="25" maxSpareThreads="75"
    enableLookups="false" redirectPort="8443" acceptCount="100"
    connectionTimeout="20000" disableUploadTimeout="true" />
    <Connector port="8443" protocol="HTTP/1.1" SSLEnabled="true"
    maxThreads="150" scheme="https" secure="true"
    keystoreFile="${java.home}\lib\security\cacerts" keystorePass="changeit"
    clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS" />
    I have gone through the http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=197150 and tried implementing it; The filter as explained in the thread does gets called but the session values are still lost.
    Please note I am using javascript to go from secure "https" to "http" once the user has successfully logged in The javascript code is as below:
    top.location.href="http://localhost:8080/qtv/index.html." ;
    If I use response.sendRedirect("http://localhost:8080/qtv/index.html") for going to non-secure mode, the index.html page does not gets loaded properly. (Please note that my index.html is made of *4 frames*, as explained earlier. This is a legacy code and frames can't be removed).
    The reason for index.html not getting loaded properly is that the Address bar URL does NOT change its URL and protocol from https (https://localhost:8443/qtv/index.html ) to "*http*" (http://localhost:8080/qtv/index.html) when esponse.sendRedirect() is used ;this is the default behaviour of response.sendRedirect(). And because the protocol in address bar is https, index.html is not able to load the other JSP's in it's frames because of cross-frame-scripting security issues (The other JSP's to be loaded in frames are are NOT secure as discussed earlier).
    Please let know if any way out.
    Thanks,
    Masaai
