Scripting a PDF merge from a CD
I'm trying to find a script that will merge PDFs from a CD, accessible within a web browser. The PDf's are listed on the HTML page, and the user will select the ones they want, then click a button, and have the selected files be saved to a single file on the user's desktop. I can't depend on the user having anything beyond Acrobat Reader, nor will this company buy anything as expensive as a developer’s license for software. Is there some way to do this? With a script, or maybe some software burned onto the CD.
I see no problem only some work to realize it.
For merging I would use a freeware command line tool like pdftk or mbtPdfasm.
You should have a look at: http://www.becyhome.de/download_eng.htm#becypdfasm
That's a nice GUI for mbtPdfAsm and - more important - the only freeware tool which supports predefined/changeable batch-jobs.
So maybe you can avoid to write some JS/VBS/HTML/HTA code.
In general I would prefer a "own GUI" so you don't depend on some System-settings.

Mail Merge from Microsoft Word 2010 to "Individual" PDF documents.
Hi Adobe brothers and sisters,
I need help with this one.
I'm Mail Merging over 300 letters and each letter has seven pages. What I'm currently doing is mail merging from Excel to Word then printing it into a single PDF document. Once printed, I select each seven pages and then reprinting in PDF with the name its intended for? This is very time consuming and hoping there is an easier way.
Is there a way to save each individual PDF documents (each letter) and have them labeled by a specific name listed on the letter intended for (eg: surname) without going through this lengthy process.
Regards,I've developed a tool that will allow you to extract each group of 7 pages
into a single file with just a few clicks. See:
http://try67.blogspot.com/2012/01/acrobat-extract-groups-of-pages.html
However, the file names of the generated files will be generic. If you want
to use some text from the pages themselves in the file names, that might be
possible, but would require a more complex script. Contact me personally to
discuss it further. -

Write Special Characters in PDF file from SAP Script
Hi there,
Need a quick help...
We are converting SAP Script to PDF using the function module CONVERT_OTF
and saving the file on presentation server using GUI_DOWNLOAD...
But in certain cases where the item text is maintained with some special
characters like @#$% u03B1 u03B2 u03B3 u03B4 ®... then, some of these characters are seen
as junk/garbage characters...
how do we handle this??
P.S. Our Forms are already using Korean Font...
Any help is highly appreciated
Kind Regards,
TanujaHi,
Use the FM CONVERT_OTF to get the Binary data and down load it as PDF .

otf = lt_otf_data-otfdata[]
lines = lt_pdf_data
exceptions
err_max_linewidth = 1
err_format = 2
err_conv_not_possible = 3
err_bad_otf = 4
others = 5 .
*/ Convert the Xstring data into PDF
call method cl_document_bcs=>xstring_to_solix
exporting

Automator for PDF merge with variable
Hi - very new to automator, but now very motivated to find a solution to this annoying problem.
I have to scan expense receipts each week and upload them 1 by 1 into a client time & expense system. I don't think Automator can help me with this one.
A second system requires all the expense receipts to be merged into a PDF and a 3rd copy emailed to an approver.
This is what I would like automator to do:
From my Expenses folder, where all my individual PDF's are located
I select all my distinct PDF's for a particular week
Using an automator service, right click style
Using 'Ask for Text', I would enter the "Week of"
My selected PDF's are merged into 1 PDF, with the name = "Week of <VAR>"
Mail starts (can't figure out how to use Gmail in a browser in Automator)
Creates a message to the approver guy with the merged attachment from #5 above
Sends the message
Quits Mail
I can get the automator to run without the variables trick...but it really would save a lot of time if I could just key it in once (instead of #filename, #email subject, #body of the message).
I also tried looking up the UUID for the variable and inserting it into the email body and subject line - but it didn't take.
Can anyone help with this?
Many thanks
bforesteCan't help you with automator, but you can create an app with the applescript below that will do what you want.
Procedure:
1. Open the Applescript Editor by typing Apples in the spotlight search field and hitting 'return' on your keyboard.
2. Copy the entire script below and paste it into the Editor window.
3. Hit 'Command-K' on the keyboard and ensure there are no compiler errors. If there are, please look at the script and see if one part of it was highlighted. Report back what part of the script was highlighted and any error messages.
If the compile didn't produce an error, then:
4. Hit 'Command-S' on the keyboard, choose a snazzy name ("PDF merger" or something...) and a location to save it in (your Apps or Desktop folders). Be sure to change the 'File Format:' to Application at the bottom of the Save screen before hitting 'Save'.
5. The first time you run the app (you run it by double-clicking on it, like any other App), you'll be asked to put in the details manually. On subsequent runs, it will fill in the defaults for you. I haven't set up the default locations for looking and searching for the files as I'm not sure where they would be on your system. I can do that if you tell me the path from your 'home' or user directory.
Also note, I've written the script so that it doesn't send the message until you've reviewed it. i.e., you might want to double check you've attached the correct file, or add a message. If you want it to send automatically without review change the following lines near the end of the script:
change the line 'set visible to true' to 'set visible to false'
change the line 'save' to 'send'

Problem importing PDF file from Word to Pages on IPad 2
I am trying to import a PDF file from Word 2007 to Pages on my iPad 2 using the file sharing function in iTunes.
I am able to import it, however when Pages saves it, I get the following message:
"Pages doesn't support some od the original document.
Objects in headers, footers, shapes, text boxes and table cells were removed.
Merged table cells were unmerged.
Objects were removed from table cells."
The document is a PDF form which needs to be filled in. The document was downloaded from a website and saved as a Word document where I have been able to enter in information and print it.
I would like to be able to fill in the form and print it from Pages as there are other documents that accompany this PDF file. (these are plain text Word documents which I have succesfully imported and can edit and print.)
Is there any way for me to achieve this?
Cheers,
JulesI don't think Pages can do this - you'll need a dedicated iPad PDF program that can fill in and edit PDF files. And even then, reports are that different readers work or dont' work with different PDF's... I use Goodreader, which can do some PDF filling in, but you might want to check the app store for others.

How to use ADS on SolMan instance and SAP standard PDF forms from ERP
Hi there
We have installed and configurated the ADS service on our Solution Manager (SolMan) Instance called SD1.
SolMan Info: SAP Solution Manager 7.0; Stack 17; Java-Stack installed; SAP Netweaver 7.0
All ADS test reports can be executed successfully:
FP_TEST_00
FP_PDF_TEST_00
We have linked our ERP landscape (e.g. system ED1) to ADS service running on SolMan.
ERP Info: ECC 6.0; Stack 13; no Java-Stack installed
All ADS test reports can be executed successfully:
FP_TEST_00
FP_PDF_TEST_00
We want to print PDF documents from SAP standard applications on our ERP landscape. Therefore we want to use standard PDF forms provided by SAP and also available in transaction SFP (e.g. form ISSR_NW670_RX_PDF).
Problem: When we try to create a PDF document from the application we get an error message:
Processing exception during a "Render" operation.#Request start time: Mon Feb 02 13:42:08 CET 2009#com.adobe.ProcessingException: Problem accessing data from Destination: dest:FP_ICF_DATA_ED1//sap/bc/fp/form/layout/ISSR_NW605_PDF.XDP?fp-language=DE&fp-cac
I have also checked the trace (see below) and it seems that the system tries to get the form from the SolMan system and not from the ERP system. But the form is only installed on ERP system.
Are there any ideas how to solve this problem?
Thanks.

How to run data merge from external hard drive?
I attempting to merge a large document (~4,000 records) in CS3. The document that I'm merging the data into is also large (an 8 page newsletter). I have exported the pages of the document as a PDF and the imported them again (therefore minimizing the data/links/etc.) but the amount of memory it was consuming was still crashing the program when I ran it on my computer. I bought a TB external hard drive and would like to run the merge from there so that it is using that memory/RAM instead of my computer's. I moved the indesign file, all the pdf links, and the .csv file that is the data source to the external hard drive. That didn't solve the problem. Is the merge now running from the external hard drive and still not working or is there something further I need to be doing to get InDesign using the external hard drive memory instead of my computer's memory? Any advice would be wonderful, thanks!

Hay guys try this, pic any number of pdf's from your mac open each one in a separate preview page, open up the side bar as explained by leroydouglas then drag the sidebar icon onto the other preview pdf ( please note that under lion you don't see the blue line appear I'm not sure if its only me or just an observation on my machine) keep doing for as many you need to merge, then go to print, bottom left corner save as pdf, it will create another preview pdf with all sidebar previews as one, this is under Mac OS X v10.7 Lion
Works great on Lion. excuse my explanation but im not a great writer, thanks enjoy. -
I created a pdf form from a Word doc with 9 pt aerial font formatting; the text on the pdf form is aerial 9 pt, but the fields are formatted in courier 12 pt - How do I reformat the font in the fields??
You can set up a temporary button (or link, bookmark, etc.) and add the following JavaScript action:
// Mouse Up script for a temporary button (or bookmark, etc.)
// Change the font and font size for all text fields in this document
for (var i = 0; i < numFields; i += 1) {
var f = getField(getNthFieldName(i));
if (f.type === "text") {
f.textFont = font.Helv;
f.textSize = 9;
It also sets the font size, but you can remove that line if you don't need to do that. -
Dynamically populating a dropdown list in a pdf form from a datasource
Is there a way to populate a dropdown list in a pdf form from a datasource, specifically from an Access database table or query, using LiveCycle Designer. I am easily able to do this using cfselect in Coldfusion, however, cannot seem to figure it out for pdf forms. I am aware of the Show Dynamic Properties option enabled in LiveCycle Designer, and then binding to a datasource. However, this seems limited as I am only able to select single columns from Access (currently using an Access database) tables, and a unable to select from queries like I do using cfselect in Coldfusion forms. Is this something that must be done with Java scripting? If so, is there any other way? I know nothing about scripting. Thanks
Derrick,
There is a sample posted at
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/articles/lc_designer_db_lookup_tip.pdf
It was created for Designer 7.0 but it should function the same in later versions of Designer.

Issue with Czech characters in PDFs generated from RSTXPDFT4
Hi,
We have a requirement to generate PDF documents from the spool of the Billing document outputs in our project.
For this we are using the standard program RSTXPDFT4, which converts the SAP script OTF to PDF format.
But the Czech characters in the billing document output are not getting displayed in the PDF generated out of it.
We are already using a device type I2HP4 when creating the print request , which supports Latin-2 Character set ( ISO 8859-2 ), to which the special characters
of East European languages belong.
Even then , the czech characters are not getting displayed in the PDF generated.
We have raised a message to SAP for this, and SAP informed us that currently the only solution to this is to use Latin 2 soft fonts,
and to upload these soft fonts into R/3 System using report RSTXPDF2 as they contain the Eastern European special characters plus all the other characters in ISO 8859-2.
But, since character font definitions (font files) are protected by copyrights, SAP informed us that they cannot provide these font files and we have to acquire
these latin-2 font files by searching in search engines in the internet.
If anyone has the information where we can get these "Adobe type 1 Latin-2" font files with '.PFB' extension, for the proper display of Czech characters, please let me know.Hi,
Did you or anyone manage to find a reasonable solution for this issue?
I'm currently facing something similar but with Polish characters instead.
I tried using RSTXPDF2 to upload .PFB and .TTF files but to no avail. -
