Scripting - how to remove a swatch in illustrator CS5

The scripting guide says:
Swatches Swatches Read-only. The swatches in this document.
Deletes a swatch from the current document
Set appRef = CreateObject("Illustrator.Application")
Set documentSwatches = appRef.ActiveDocument.Swatches
Set swatchToDelete = documentSwatches(5)
swatchToDelete.delete
How am I supposed to be able to make changes to the swatches collection - it is read only...
Not supprisingly I have failed to implement this in C-sharp, any ideas or workarounds?

the property is Read-only, it is only the list, it means you can not alter the list directly, at least in this way. If you see in the previous column, it say it returns a "swatches" object, that's the actual collection you can play with, add or delete items.

I don't do C-sharp, but the above code works fine in VB, that is if you have at least 5 swatches. Do you get any error messages?

    If you do not own a license for CS5 there is not much you can do to get it thru Adobe.  They only sell current versions of their software (CS6 or Creative Cloud).  You would need to find a third party vendor and take your chances with them.

  • How do I unlock a swatch on Illustrator CS5?

    I opened a PDF in Illustrator and it has 4 Spot color swatches. Two of them will not delete or let me alter them and I need to change them to CMYK. I've tried reopening the document, restarting my computer and copying and pasting everything into a new document. Nothing has worked for me. I've also tried selecting everything, and going to Edit > Edit Colors > Convert to CMYK ... and then making a new color group (with global checked.) Still won't let me edit the two problem swatches. I then went to "Select all unused" from the swatch panel (thinking they would at least get selected because all of the colors should link to my new global color group) and the two problem swatches did NOT get selected. I've tried deleting all the links (thinking maybe the spot color was tucked in an eps file or something.) No objects are locked and none of the layers are locked.
    Any help would be greatly apprectiated!!

    What happens if you convert the colors to CMYK in Acrobat before opening the file in Illustrator?
    Even after all your edits, are you actually seeing a color color when you use the Seperations Preview in Illustrator? Is your Document Info Palette telling you there are Spot Color objects?

    Hi Friends:
       In my form there is an amount printed like this:
    $   50.0
    in the scipt:
    $ 
        is defined in some other window like this:
    ZD <S>PAY,,<J>$</>_______________________
    amount is coming from other window like : &amount&.
    I made it &amount(C)& to reduce the spacing b/w $ & amount but still there is some space. Is there any way to minimize that space.

  • How to print effects/gradients in Illustrator CS5??

    I created various pieces for a project in Illustrator and now I want to send the files to the client for printing. My files are currently set to RGB color mode and I have a gradient and a few effects (specifically some textures) added to the different files. I noticed that when I changed the color mode to CMYK (for printing purposes) the effects & gradients were gone and I read up that they only work in RGB. So my question is how do I keep the gradients and effects intact so that I can print them? Don't they have to be in CMYK mode to print properly? I thought of possibly flattening it or converting the objects some how. I don't know what to do I'm at a loss. Oh the client wants the files in jpg format too. If you could also tell me how to set up the file for printing would be great. I'm still new at the printing side of things.

    Generally, if your uses of the artwork includes printing as in a printing house, you should start in CMYK because certain RGB colours cannot be reproduced in CMYK (you may use spot colours).
    If your printing is only on non PostScript printers as in most inkjets, you may be better off using RGB, because a non Postscript printer ultimately converts from RGB to CMYK, so CMYK artwork will be converted twice, first to RGB, then back to CMYK.

    Hi, I am singing into my dynamic mic using adobe cs5 and for some reason I cannot avoid the harsh plosive sounds being picked up by mic.
    When I play it back it makes a huge "PUH" sound and really doesn't sound very nice.
    Im sure a program like CS5 will allow me to remove these harsh plosive noises but I dont know how.

    Well, all the stuff about getting a recording without the plosives is well and good....but if all you have is the recording in post, then the FFT filter is a good tool to work with.Highlight the plosive (and only the plosive. Try to avoid the rest of the word) -- it will be pretty easy to see in the wave file. Go to the FFT filter in Effects Bring everything below 80Hz down to zero. Then draw a curve so that 100Hz and higher is at 100% and start playing with the curve to find the right amount of frequencies to take out.
    I've found in my years of radio work, that cutting out frequencies below 100Hz and leaving the rest alone will work good enough about 60% of the time. There are some plosives that go up to 250Hz and higher...you really can't fix those to take them completely out, but you can make them better. Sometimes it helps to also reduce the amplitude some after you've applied the filter.
    But, you'll find that people who pop will pop A LOT...and they always seem to be saying (or singing) things with a lot of P's. So it's always better to use pop filters, mic positionioning, vocal technique, and such during the recording. But I think you'll find that FFT filter will be your friend when all that other stuff isn't enough.
    (BTW, I'm sure there's probably somethig you can do with the magic healing brush to accomplish this same thing, I just haven't futtzed with it enough to know how to do it there).

    So i have to ask from someone who knows scripting, to write it!
    I have seen in many sites, very good scripts doing other thinks, and also i saw one that did exactly what i wanted
    called  " Artboard_coords.app " but saddly was for mac.
    Pleaase if someone has the time to write such a script, i would very much appreciate it, and i think
    that it would be very usefull to many other designers too,  who works with digital printings,
    and have to print cards and other stuff to laser printings.
    Untill now i use the script from indesign.
    i also made an action that almost do the job, but not very handy!

    I'm still having that trouble where Indesign crashes the moment you try to export it to HTML. Unfortunatly, I have invested ~ 4 hours preparing file so I would rather write to my local representitive to investigate Adobe for violiting turst laws and possibly breach of contract or something else nasty.
    Anyways, Adobe support (after  acknowledgingthat Indesign indeed crashes) gave me strange and perhaps worthless advice, they said that I should remove footnotes from my document. Unfortunatly, the document does not have footnotes!
    Is there anyway I can verify that my document doesn't have footnotes, or remove them in some way? Perhaps look at the IDML/XML code and then open that in Indesign? Is there some way to only search footnotes (perhaps with the grep wildcard?)?

    Wouldn't it be View > Structure > ... ?

    After 3 years of use without doing it before, CS5 just started to add and leave a bounding box on items once I select them. How do I stop this?  Of course I tried the simple fixes, but they do not stop the box from staying visible.

    If your seeing the bounding box when using the move tool, then you can uncheck Show Transform Controls.
    If that's not it, could you post a screenshot of what your seeing?

    When extruding one shape out of another, the new shape retains the apperiance of the top shape. But my bottom shape has had a few effects applied to it earlier on. So I need to be able to copy aka. eyedrop all apperences including effects to that top shape. How do I do this?

    You can use the eyedropper tool. double click it to set the options. The dialog box has to show 3 entries with all three checkmarked.

    Okay, So I cannot figure out how to save swatches to Illustrator CS5.
    I'm able to open the extension (the one that's different from the jet, shiney black interface app I have on my taskbar). I type in my name (I have public swatches), nothing. I type in a search parameter...nothing.
    I do not get this whole ASE thing, and I'm not going to use SDK.
    What on earth do I do?

    If your theme is public, it should be accessible in the kuler panel. A way to check if your theme is public is to see if it is accessible via the url given on your theme page on kuler. If you can access it via that url without signing in, the theme is public. Try searching the theme on kuler website and verify if it is available there. You can use the theme Id available as the last part of the url to search the theme as well. You can alternatively download the theme as ASE(there is a download button on the theme details page once you are logged in) and can get the theme with AI CS5 as described in the post:http://forums.adobe.com/thread/784355?tstart=0. Please reply to this post if you still face problems.

    Do you still have the original installer dvd's?  If so run Apple Hardware Test.  Also since you recently added more memory also run Rember (a GUI layer on top or memtest).   I wouldn't trust TechTool for reliable memory tests.
    The only software I've added (on Monday and the problem started Monday) was a Seagate Diagnostic program to test some external USB Seagate GoFlex archive drives-- these are not always connected or mounted to the Mac Pro. When I started experiencing problems-- and it crashed or hung several times on Monday-- I trashed the Seagate Diagnostic program.
    Hmm, coincidence?  Maybe, maybe not. 
    If the Seagate Diagnostic program was the one I found here you probably did not remove all of it.  Specifically the kext's it installs.
    /System/Library/Extensions/MaxtorPowSecDriver.kext
    /System/Library/Extensions/SeagatePowSecDriver.kext
    If they are there move them to the trash (proably need your admin password to allow it) and reboot.
    If the Seagate Diagnostic program is not the one I found. The do the following in terminal and post the results:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
