Scripting in JSF pages

Hey,
I have 2 JSF pages: container.jsp and sub.jsp,
container.jsp loads sub.jsp in a dynamic call like this:
<jsp:include page='<%= pageToLoad %>' />Inside sub.jsp, I have a parameter defined for a commandLink tag:
<h:commandLink ...>
  <f:param name="param1" value="<%= value %>" />
</h:commandLink>Problem:
- container.jsp fails to load and returns an error because it seems that the JSF tags within sub.jsp have execution priority over the script code (which is read literally and not executed).
- if I remove the script and hardcode the value, it works fine
- if I write the same code inside container.jsp, it works fine as well
Question:
How can I overcome this problem? Is there any alternative way for reaching the same outcome?
Thanks,
Mobal

I ever wrote an article about that: http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/01/dynamic-jsf-subviews.html

  • Problem with resource bundle messages written inside script of jsf included

    Hi,
    I have a main jsf page with the name Details.jsp.In this page I included Contacts jsf page.I am using resouce bundle for my application.I written all the output text tags with this resouce bundle keys.And I written the Details main page javascript alerts with this resource bundle correctly.But the problem is,I am having script alrts in my included jsf apge i.e. in Contacts page.When I write the script alerts with the resource bundle keys,it is not displaying properly.

    </script>
    <f:subview id="cSubView">
    <h:inputText value="#{CBean.email}" id="cemailtext" />
    </f:subview>
    The alert message in SaveFn is getting appeared coorectly.But in the function emailValidation is not geting dispalyed correctly.It is appearing as normat output text in the page,but not as an alert.

    Thanks for the reply.
    But I want to do some validations using javascript not only the required validation.
    In my application 5 text fields and one command button are there .Depending upon combination of 2 or 3 text field values, I have to get the values when I pressed command button.
    If I use the h:messages for validators,the conversion error is occurring when the text field takes wrong data.So it is going to give incorrect results when I press the command button.Thats why I am using javascript.
    When user enters wrong data,I want to do validation using javascript and I want to display the alert message using resource bundle.

    Because :
    Session.getAtrribute is java-code that can only run on the server
    and
    var y = session.getAttribute is javascript-code run on the client.

  • Error loading JSF page popup window - Cannot find FacesContext

    Hello,
    I am trying to load a popup window from my Visual Web JSF page. The popup window itself will be a Visual Web JSF page also.
    As an example, i have 2 buttons on my original page with jsp tags as follows::
    <webuijsf:button binding="#{Page1.button1}" id="button1" onClick="window.showModelessDialog('./PopupPage.jsp'); return false;"
    style="left: 19px; top: 16px; position: absolute" text="Button"/>
    <webuijsf:button actionExpression="#{Page1.button2_action}" binding="#{Page1.button2}" id="button2"
    onClick="window.showModelessDialog('./PopupPage.jsp');" style="position: absolute; left: 20px; top: 44px" text="Button"/>
    When i click Button1, the popup window appears but will not load the page within the window. I get the following report in the server log:
    StandardWrapperValve[jsp]: PWC1406: Servlet.service() for servlet jsp threw exception
    java.lang.RuntimeException: Cannot find FacesContext
    at javax.faces.webapp.UIComponentClassicTagBase.getFacesContext(UIComponentClassicTagBase.java:1811)
    at javax.faces.webapp.UIComponentClassicTagBase.setJspId(UIComponentClassicTagBase.java:1628)
    at org.apache.jsp.PopupPage_jsp._jspx_meth_f_view_0(PopupPage_jsp.java from :102)
    at org.apache.jsp.PopupPage_jsp._jspService(PopupPage_jsp.java from :77)
    ETC ETC
    If i click Button2 (which does NOT return false in the onclick Script and thus submits the first page) the first attempt fails with the same error, but if i try a second time the popup window displays and loads the page correctly.
    Any solutions would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me crazy :-s

    Cannot find FacesContextThis generally indicates that you invoked a request which points to a JSP page which contains JSF tags, but that the request itself isn't passed through the FacesServlet. Make sure that the request URL is covered by the url-pattern setting of the FacesServlet in the web.xml.

  • Running Bash scripts from jsf

    Hey I was just wondering if anyone knows how to run a bash script (whatever.sh) from a jsf page.?? I have a whatever.sh on a tomcat server where my web ap is and I was trying just to run it? Any idea???

    Why do you want to do this operation in a JSF page?
    It is better to do it in a Java class and then call the class from the JSF/ JSP page - keep JSF/ JSP only for disply / view purposes.
    Searc on Google for "How to call unix shell script using Java" for answers.

  • Javascript not loading in my JSF page

    I have a JSF page in which I use the t:popup field, which I can't get to show:
    <tr>
                        <TD><t:popup id="testpop" styleClass="popClass"
                             closePopupOnExitingElement="true" closePopupOnExitingPopup="true"
                             displayAtDistanceX="10" displayAtDistanceY="10">
                             <h:outputText id="obtest" value="pelle" />
                             <f:facet name="popup">
                                  <h:panelGroup>
                                       <h:panelGrid columns="1">
                                            <h:outputText value="Sample Popup Text" />
                                       </h:panelGrid>
                                  </h:panelGroup>
                             </f:facet>
                        </t:popup></TD>
                   </tr>
    I can compile the code without any errors and also load the page successfully with no javascript errors or other errors. However, the popup box does not show up. It is like the JSPopup.js script has not been loaded properly. But if I put an alert() in the JSPopup.js file it displays it on page load???
    On the same page I have an inputCalendar that works as it should, so I would think the correct JAR files have been loaded.
    I also have a home grown javascript:
    <script src="js/scripts.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    The function that uses this script only works when the above line is put right before the </body> (not in <HEAD>). This makes me believe that the same problem applies to the JSPopup.js file since it is rendered/included in the <HEAD> section.
    This is driving me crazy. Any ideas are welcome.
    Thanks

    Do you have any security or privacy oriented add-ons? These may include a feature to block content from sites other than the one you're on.
    If you want someone to look at your list, you can copy and paste it from the second table here:
    Help > Troubleshooting Information
    Alternately, you can try those sites with your add-ons disabled using Firefox's [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Use
    Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    In the dialog, don't check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode." If the sites work as designed, then the most likely culprit is one of your add-ons.
    Does that help at all?

  • How do I pass input values from a html page to a jsf page

    hi,
    In my project,for front view we have used html pages.how can I get input values from that html page into my jsf page.for back end purpose we have used EJB3.0
    how can I write jsf managed bean for accessing these entities.we have used session facade design pattern and the IDE is netbeans5.5.
    pls,help me,very urgent
    thanx in advance

    Simplest way is to rewrite html page into jsf page.
    You can use session bean in your managed bean like this:
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    public class ManagedBean {
    private Context  ctx;
    private Object res;
    // session bean interface
    private Service service;
              public ManagedBean() {
                try{
                     ctx = new InitialContext();
                     res = ctx.lookup("Service");
                     service = (Service) res;
               catch(Exeption e){

  • How to get values from a query string in URL in a jsf page?

    if i have a url, http://my.com/?name=john+smith, how do i get the values from that url in a jsf page and then pass those values to a servlet?
    i know how to do that in jsp using "request.getParamter("name")" and save it in a bean and then forward to a servlet. But what about in jsf?

    Hello,
    Try this:
    Map requestMap = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestMap();
    String name = (String) requestMap.get("name");If isn't worked one of these methods probably will solve your problem.
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap();
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestHeaderMap();hth.

  • How to Open an Oracle Report From a JSF Page

    Hi there,
    I would be really grateful if anyone would find me a solution to the following scenario:
    In my company, we have a project where we have to convert Oracle Forms and Reports to Java Web Application. The conversion of forms is being done thourgh JSF/ADF technology but how can i open an Oracle Report from a JSF page after supplying it with parameters ? Or i have to do some type of conversion before ?
    Once again i would be thankfull for your replies.

    Tapash,
    Thanks for reponding.
    Here is the URL I am currently using :
    https://gccss.glendale.edu:8001/dev60cgi/rwcgi60?server=rep60_crp3+userid=apps/pswd@crp3+report=/u07/oracle/crp3appl/gcccus/11.5.0/reports/US/GCC_ACCRUAL_BAL_0505.rdf+desformat=html+paramform=yes+destype=cache+p_accesscode=""
    The p_accesscode is the parameter I need to pass to the Oracle report.
    Currently, when I click the button, it invokes the above URL and takes me to the parameter form of the Oracle report and when I enter the Username, it runs the report and displays the desired output. But, what I need to achieve is, to pass the current user who has logged in behind the scene and to get rid of the parameter screen totally. Is this doable ? If yes, please help me !!!
    Thanks
    Hilal

  • Every time I open Firefox or open a page in a new tab, I get the error message that a script on this page is not responding or has quit working. This has only happened since I upgraded to 5.0.

    Even when I start firefox I have to sit here and wait for it to tell me a script on this page is not responding or has quit working. Once that happens which takes a while, I can say stop script and it moves on. I've always liked using firefox and have never had a problem in the past, however if I can't get this particular problem fixed, and I've tried many ways to do this, I may have to change to another browser. I would hope that you could find out why this is happening to me before I make that decision. One other thing, I am using the dreaded Vista OS.

    Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
    If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />
