Scripting Question - (starter)

Hello,
I am new at Java scripting in general, and especially in InDesign.
I would like to know, how can I retrieve the page number of the current page in the document.
I.e., if the user runs the script while he is working on page 123, I would like the script to be able to retrieve the number to store it in a variable.
Thanks!

myPageName = app.activeWindow.activePage.name
The choice of variable name is flexible

  • Scripting Question - Very Basic

    Hello, I'm using the trial version of InDesign and am wondering if because it's the trial version that I can't load custom scripts from Adobe?  I've downloaded and installed a Custom Calendar script [I can see the extracted files in/on my PC] but the app apparently doesn't see it.  Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.  Thanks,

    Thank you so much, you were spot on.

    Have you put thew script in a location that InDesign uses for scripts? See How to install scripts in InDesign | InDesignSecrets

    I would like to embed interactive widgets in iBooks using iBookAuthor. The widgets in question started life in Java but GWT has allowed them to be converted to javascript and to run on web pages (for example, http://softoption.us/content/node/437 scroll to the bottom). In theory, iBookAuthor can bring in most html5, and much javascript. The technique is to wrap the html in a folder, with 2 extra files, a plist and a default png and then change the extension of the folder to ‘.wdgt’. This is the technique for making Dashboard widgets for the Mac, and Apple even have the Dashcode software to do it. So what you really do is to make a Dashboard widget, then iBookAuthor can import it.  So far, so good. And some  folk have been doing this, for example http://www.prweb.com/releases/2012/2/prweb9242432.htm http://www.panophoto.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=10417&p=158330#p158423 However, if you start with GWT and create a single page with one button and a Hello World, compile it, and get the WAR file (I use Eclipse here)… the Safari browser and others will run it properly (even on an iPad). Then if you wrap it, a proper Dashboard widget is created, which runs properly on a Mac. Then if you go to iBookAuthor and put a custom widget in the Text, then drag it in. It is accepted by the text and shown as being there. However, if you use Preview to look at it on an iPad, it is gone (or was never there in the first place). Anyone any ideas on this? [And iBook Author seems to give no warnings.] The widget is at https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46713473/Test6.wdgt.zip I have bells and whistles that I’d like to get into an iBook!
    Thanks for any insights.
    Martin

    I do have a little to add, which might help someone. Indeed, opening a blank page and dragging the widget straight in seems good in difficult cases. But, actually, I was also able to insert successfully from the Toolbar especially to blank pages. So, it may have been something to do with the columns and stuff like that. Anyway back then the insertion would show in iBooks Author but not in the Preview on the iPad. I moved on to actual Google Web Toolkit output javascript. Basically I had three at hand to try: a Hello World with a button which went straight it, one of moderate complexity, (for example with a built in Lisp interpreter), which also went straight in, and finally a more complex one that initially was rejected by iBook Author. Author complained that there was an unsupported media file (of course, Author does not tell you which one it is, that would be too easy). [Remember, this was a proper working Dashboard widget which could be installed on a Mac]. Among other things I had read remarks about .gif files. When looking through the GWT war directory at the actual javascript etc files, I noticed there were two gifs there one called ‘clear.cache.gif ‘  and a second one called  ‘0F89659FF3F324AE4116F700257E32BD.cache.gif’. (Now, there is obfuscation so the numbers here may be different from case to case.) The clear.cache.gif did not seem to be anything special. But the other one is an animation. It is three little boxes that twinkle (rather like a waiting spinning cursor).  So, I opened that file and saved it to itself (that picks the top frame of the animation and saves only that, leaving you with an unanimated gif). The resulting widget drags and drops into iBooks Author (and seems to work properly at a quick glance). So, if you are having trouble with ‘unsupported media files’ converting animated gifs into unanimated gifs might help in some cases.

  • Quick SAP Script question New Page Print

    Quick SAP Script question
    I have added a new page to an existing SAP Script BUT only want it to print if a condition is true.
    I need to do this from within the form as the print program is SAP Std.
    Any idea how I can prevent the new page from printing?
    i.e. I need the form NOT to call the new page if the condition is false. Is there a way of forcing an exit or stop from with in the form?

    Hi,
    To trigger a new page, there is script ediotr command NEW-PAGE.
    so find where is that command is triggered and use the below code for trigger it on any specific condition....
    if &condition& = 'True'
    /*  NEW-PAGE
    elseif
    /: NEW-PAGE
    endif
    so it means if condition is satisfied your new page will not work.. else it will...
    Hope you got it...
    Try this..
    Best luck..
    Regs,
    Lokesh.

  • Shell script to start, stop and restart a JAR

    Hi everyone,
    Does anyone have idea to write a shell script to start, stop and restart a JAR under linux? it can indicate a method or parameter? Thanks!
    this JAR inculdes a class with main method like this:
    public class Client(){
      public Client(String name){
      public void stopClient(){
      public static void main(String[] args){
         new Client("/tmp/text.log");
    }

    Does anyone have idea to write a shell script to
    start, stop and restart a JAR under linux? That part isn't really clear.
    Start would be java -jar myjar.jar.
    Stop could either be kill, which kills the whole process; kill -TSTP, which suspends the process, or some application-specific communication such as sending something over a port; or putting something into a file or something.
    Restart could just be the same as start (if stop is just kill); kill -CONT, if stop was kill -TSTP; or some other app-specific communication.

    Could someone provide me with some sample scripts for starting/stopping managed Weblogic servers?  I'm specifically looking for ways to start/stop them WITHOUT starting the AdminServer.  I'm running WLS 10.3.6 on Windows Server 2003, and I have NodeManager set to start automatically as a Windows service.
    I know how to set my managed servers up as Windows services so that they will start automatically at boot, but this requires the AdminServer to be running, which I do not want.  I just want a few scripts for starting/stopping the managed servers (and maybe some hints as to how to make them start automatically without starting the AdminServer).
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

    Hello Puneet,
    Admin console is an web application deployed into AdminServer. Hence if you shutdown AdminServer then you wouldn't able to access Admin console.
    Managed Server would function in MSI mode, however you will not be able to make any configuration or administration activities like deployment , any configuration changes , etc.
    Hello PRISM,
    Can you confirm your requirement about why you don't want AdminServer to be running?
    As I said,  you will loose the administration capability if you don't have admin server running.
    Regards
    Rosario

  • Any script to start Replication and Caching automatically?

    yes, I know there're two stored procedures to start Replication and Caching, ie. call ttRepStart() and
    call ttCacheStart().
    but, is there any methods, like unix shell script, to start them easily? i can't find on the installation provided.
    thanks!

    thanks! wrote it by myself:
    #!/bin/sh
    echo "starting ttCacheStart"
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/local/oracle/product/10.2.0/lib:/home/oracle/TimesTen/tt60/lib; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    TT_BIN=/home/oracle/TimesTen/tt60/bin
    #$TT_BIN/ttIsql -v 0 -connstr dsn=TT_tt60 -f cachestart.sql
    $TT_BIN/ttAdmin -cachestart dsn=TT_tt60
    returnCode=$?
    echo "return code: $returnCode"
    if test $returnCode=0 || test $returnCode=5
    then echo "Successfully started Cache"
    exit 0
    else echo "Failed in starting Cache"
    exit -1

    exit $returnCode

  • How to use OLE to start a Diadem vbs Script, that starts the Measurement

    Hi there,
    i try to use OLE to start a Diadem Script that start my measurement. I always get the Error-Message "The Measurement can only be startet in the first instance". How can i make this work? At this time i use DDE to start my Scripts and i want to use OLE to get direct Channel Access and to prevent the lousy dde-timeouts.
    IDIACommand = CreateObject("diadem.tocommand")
    command="Scriptstart  etc
    IDIACommand.CmdExecuteASync(command)
    Thanks
    Diademi

    Hello diademi!
    Depending on a registry setting DIAdem will treat the interface creation in two different ways:
    Starting always a new instance of DIAdem and connect to this
    Start a new DIAdem if there is no DIAdem already running. Then connect to the started or the already running DIAdem
    The second mode will be right for your use case. Have a look at the key 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{285E4FB2-F633-11D1-85DC-008048D9A408}\StartParameter' in the registry. The value 'Intancing' defines the behavior. Search the DIAdem help to get the definition (don't use the help index, it is missing there!).

    my secret questions starting with g... mail not belong to me i couldnt change my answers..
    i use only my apple id mail which is [email protected]

    You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
    They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Quick script question

    Hi all,
    Could anyone advise me if i can add anything within - header('Location: http://www.mysite.co.uk/thankyou.html'); in the script below so as the page
    re- directs back to the main index page after a few seconds ?
    Thankyou for any help.
    <?php
    $to = '[email protected]';
    $subject = 'Feedback form results';
    // prepare the message body
    $message = '' . $_POST['Name'] . "\n";
    $message .= '' . $_POST['E-mail'] . "\n";
    $message .= '' . $_POST['Phone'] . "\n";
    $message .= '' . $_POST['Message'];
    // send the email
    mail($to, $subject, $message, null, '');
    header('Location: http://www.mysite.co.uk/thankyou.html');
    ?>

    Mr powers gave me that script so im rather confused at this point in time
    I don't think I "gave" you that script. I might have corrected a problem with it, but I certainly didn't write the original script.
    What you're using is far from perfect, but to suggest it would lay you open to MySQL injection attacks is ludicrous. For you to be prone to MySQL injection, you would need to be entering the data into a MySQL database, not sending it by email.
    There is a malicious attack known as email header injection, which is a serious problem with many PHP email processing scripts. However, to be prone to email header injection, you would need to use the fourth argument of mail() to insert form data into the email headers. Since your fourth argument is null, that danger doesn't exist.
    One thing that might be worth doing is checking that the email address doesn't contain a lot of illegal characters, because that's a common feature of header injection attacks. This is how I would tidy up your script:
    <?php
    $suspect = '/Content-Type:|Bcc:|Cc:/i';
    // send the message only if the E-mail field looks clean
    if (preg_match($suspect, $_POST['E-mail'])) {
      header('Location: http://www.example.com/sorry.html');
      exit;
    } else {
      $to = '[email protected]';
      $subject = 'Feedback form results';
      // prepare the message body
      $message = 'Name: ' . $_POST['Name'] . "\n";
      $message .= 'E-mail: ' . $_POST['E-mail'] . "\n";
      $message .= 'Phone: ' . $_POST['Phone'] . "\n";
      $message .= 'Message: ' . $_POST['Message'];
      // send the email
      mail($to, $subject, $message);
      header('Location: http://www.example.com/thankyou.html');
      exit;
    ?>
    Create a new page called sorry.html, with a message along the lines of "Sorry, there was an error sending your message". Don't put anything about illegal attacks. Just be neutral.
    By the way, when posting questions here, don't use meaningless subject lines, such as "Quick script question". If you're posting here, it's almost certain to be a question about a script. It doesn't matter whether it's quick. Use the subject line to tell people what it's about.

  • Unique Script Questions-timed startup?

    Hello All,
    I am long time mac fanatic with some unusual script questions. I have a project ongoing where I will need to put my pb 15" in a remote location with a Canon camera. Canon has transmitter device which will allow me via ethernet to ftp to my pb.
    Here's essentially what I need to the script to do and I am trying to find out just how feasible this is. I need my laptop to bootup to receive photos via ftp at a certain time period. The camera will send to the builtin ftp software. Once booted I need the script to hold for period of about an hour. Once time has elapsed I need the script to connect to the internet via a broadband EVDO card. We are using one of the EVDO cards built in to Tiger. It then must ftp a folder of images to a remote server.
    Simple, huh? : ) I am running Transmit as my ftp software. I believe it is scriptable and will watch a folder to send.
    Any ideas? I'd love to hear them. I can be reached via scott at scottaudette.com.
    This setup is going be used in very cool photo location but I can't publicly announce where.

    'Transmit ... I believe it is scriptable' - yes it is. Go to How can I use AppleScript with Transmit? to download sample 'Transmit' scripts.
    'Once booted I need the script to hold for period of about an hour.' - well then, save the script as a 'stay open' application, with an 'on idle () ... end idle' handler - with a return of (60 * 60) seconds; and then drag the saved application onto the 'System Preferences' 'Accounts' 'Login Items' tab's list - of the user which the Mac will boot to (when turned ON).

  • Start of a script question

    I have a script (see below) I would like to start after a boot up of the computer and a wake up from the sleep mode. How can that be done? Does this take another script, adding to this script or is there an OS X function that can launch the script?
    <pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">tell application "HamachiX"
    quit
    end tell
    delay 10
    tell application "HamachiX"
    activate
    end tell
    delay 2
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "HamachiX"
    keystroke "m" using command down
    end tell
    end tell
    </pre>

    Hi M. R.
    To have your script run when the computer boots up save it as a application, and add it to your
    start up items.
    You could use iCal to activate your script saved as a application at any time set by you.
    To have your script activate when the computer wakes from sleep mode you could use Sleep Watcher
