Scroll bar, as designed, creates an undesired response lag.

Observation I'm unsure if accurate, but I've experienced firsthand:
**It appears that the slider component of the scroll bar does not create/send "OnDrag" info until the cursor passes the midpoint of the slider. Thus, if I'm interested in scrolling down, for example, and I attempt to drag the control down, it won't respond until I'm half way down the component.**
This obviously means that my page won't start scrolling initially, and then it will jump, rather than smoothly scrolling.
In other tests I've done, I haven't seen the delay. For example, on a page that does not require a lot of scrolling, the slider is larger, and it seems responsive from the initial click point --- not just after the 50% point is hit. Because my tests are not displaying the same behavior, I may be off base... However...
I have produced an MP4 of me slowly dragging the slider up and down a longer page, and periodically I'll be able to have the mouse pointer leave the slider (even though I'm still in a MouseDown state), and later the slider will catch-up to the pointer. I can e-mail the file to you, if you want it.
There is additionally a lag in typing this post. As a test, I typed in the alphabet, and each character displayed instantaneously. But after a little while, about 10 characters buffered, and then all spilled out simultaneously. I wondered if it was my system, so I tried the test in Notepad, and it was fully responsive to each keystroke. (In typing the last sentence, the phrase "wondered if it was my system" all got buffered and sent to my textbox simultaneously.)
Clearly, if there's an issue with typing text, it'll likely spill over to the responsiveness of other controls. Maybe the scrollbar and textboxes are fine, but there's a bigger issue hitting FireFox internally?

A number of items from your profile can be affecting this.

  • Force vert scroll bar & good design reference

    OK, yes I'm a self-taught nube with LiveCycle. After numerous tutorials and lots of reading, I know I need to code to force vertical scroll bars to appear as default on a multi-line text field. I'm a designer - not a coder- and I have yet to find an example to plagiarize work off of. Can somebody please show me how?
    Also, I started by scanning a form and letting LC design a form from that. As I explore the hierarchy, I cannot decipher the magical, mystical logic as to how text and text fields are distributed amongst cells, paragraphs, and rows; why some tables get a header row and others have the header shoved into a body row; and so on. To further my education, can somebody also point me to a good treatise (preferable on-line) for basic best-practices for design within LiveCycle?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Slide Show on Home Page Creates Scroll bar in browser...

    I have created my site, and at the tope of it I have a hero Slider Composition with text in it. But, when I view it in the browser, it scrolls to the right. But, if I delete the composition slide show, the scroll bar disappears. I've tried to re-create the slide show, but it continues to do the same thing, I would really appreciate some help quick, in that my site is live. http://www.serpentsndoves.com

    Firstly: Congrats on a very cool web design!!
    I had a look at the site, and think that what you are seeing is expected behaviour. You have little control over the width of the browser window a viewer might have set when they are viewing your web page. It can be narrower or wider than the page width you set in Muse:
    When the browser window is narrower than the width of the web page, the scrollbar at the bottom for right to left movement appears.
    When you make the browser window wider than the width of the web page, the scrollbar will disappear as the full width of the page is displayed.
    In contrast, if you were to look at the page on an iPad in landscape, the width of the page will snap to the width of the browser window, as mobile browsers behave differently to desktop browsers.

  • Text editing window expands instead of creating vertical scroll bar

    In the last few days, I have noticed that when I try to edit or post to Wordpress.com the vertical scroll bar no longer appears on the text editing box. Instead the box just gets progressively larger which makes it very difficult to get to other items on the WordPress editing screen, such as tags and categories. This problem seems to have arisen during the v31.0 auto-upgrade. Is anybody else having this issue and what steps can I take to solve it? (FYI, I tried modifying the setting described in another response about a similar issue using the about:config screen, with no success.)

    I don't know whether your dashboard has the "Visual" and "Text" buttons, but I believe the Visual uses CKEditor or another WYSIWYG editor and the Text editor might be a simpler design. Are both affected?
    I searched around to see whether I could find Wordpress.com support threads or other stories about it and I can't. So I'll fall back on some general suggestions:
    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * (menu bar) Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    In the dialog that opens, you can remove WordPress.com cookies without affecting other sites.
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
    To rule out extensions as a possible culprit, could you try the site in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, some advanced features, and some custom settings. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    Note: Flash and other plugins still run
    After Firefox closes, a small dialog should appear: click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?

  • How to fix double vertical scroll bar in responsive output

    After implementing the solution provided for the question 'Responsive HTML5 Output: How to auto adjust the screen resolution for all devices?', the function bar in output does not appear and also another vertical scroll bar in the output. I edited the max-width value in the layoutfix.min.css file and fixed the function bar issue. How can I do away with the additional vertical scroll bar?

    I've looked into the issue.
    @Delennish: In your case, the size of the iframe is too large, or you have an extra empty element below the iframe. You can try 2 things:
    1. Best solution but may have side effects: In the main.css, add the following code:
    div.contentholder { overflow: hidden !important;}
    For this option, please check for undesired side effects.
    2. Works, but is ugly: In the main.css, add the following code:
    div.floatholder iframe.wTopic { height: 95% !important;}
    Try playing with the height setting until the 2nd scrollbar disappears.
    @CarolW: The layout you're using is very old. I've made a new responsive layout with TOC only. Please use that one instead: http://www.wvanweelden.eu/sites/default/files/attachments/Theme1_Standard_TOC_Only.zip (I'll update my site with this new version later.)

  • CS4 - Design View, no scroll bars??

    Hi - when I switch to either Design View or Split view the design view window does not display it's scroll bar. Not a CSS scroll bar or anything - just the main/regular scroll bar so that I can scroll down and add/edit content. Help please!

    Have a look at this post from a little while ago:
    11. Aug 25, 2009 2:06 PM in response to: KevinSFreeman
    Re: No scroll bars?
    Success! Just in case anyone else gets hit by this - someone on the Firefox forums suggested that the recent versions of Firefox are very picky about the level/quality/type of javascript in web pages and can throw a wobbly if they don't like what they see.
    So, I suspected that newer versions of FF might not like MenuMachine. I asked the good people who produce MenuMachine, and the ever-helpful Rob Keniger poked about in my code until he found the culprit for me. It was nothing to do with javascript.
    It's a line I've been using for ages in the head section of my pages - I'm embarrassed to admit I can't even remember why or who recommended it. However, it doesn't play with current and recent versions of Firefox (Mac, at least). I took it out and the problem vanished. It's this:
    <meta http-equiv="MSThemeCompatible" content="No" />
    This is a post by Kath-H
    Maybe this will help...except I see that it is not talking about Scrollbars in Dreamweaver but scrollbars in a browser. (sigh!)

  • Creating a site without scroll bar and dependent of window size

    Hi,
    I want to create a site that appears in the browser window without a scrolling bar, so all content is shown in that window and you don't have to scroll down (unless window size is ridicrously small).
    Of course, there are contents that will not fit in the window like long texts but then I want this block of text to have its own scrolling bar so the only thing that scrolls is the text and not the other elements.
    at http://www.artofwalls.com/rosannawalls you can see my attempts.
    In the home page you can see how the background picture always adapts to the size and aspect of the browser window and how the menu keeps its position related to the lower left corner of the window. But if you click in "Biografia" (SEE BELOW) you can see a text that is too long so you have to scroll the screen to read it. What I want is this text appear inside the white transparent box and the height of this box end near the bottom of the window. To read the full text a scroll bar should appear inside this box and this scroll bar should scroll only the text inside the box, just like in the text box I'm writing this post now.
    EDIT: DUE TO A BUG IN MUSE I HAVE ALREADY REPORTED LONG AGO, YOU CAN'T SEE THE PAGE BIOGRAFÍA BECAUSE IT IS EXPORTED AS biografía.html AND THE SERVER DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE INTERNATIONAL CHARACTER (THE SOLUTION PROPOSED BY ADOBE WAS TO UPLOAD THE SITE TO BUSINESS CATALYST BECAUSE THEIR SERVER HAS NO PROBLEM WITH INTERNATIONAL CHARACTERS, BUT ALMOST ANY OTHER SERVER IN THE WORLD DO)
    SO, TO SEE THE PAGE I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU HAVE TO GO TO http://www.artofwalls.com/rosannawalls/biograf%eda.html
    Another strange side effect is in this page the menu has disappeared completely. If you scroll down all the page you will see the menu is not there.
    Another thing I would like is to adapt the size of the white transparent box to the size of the browser window.
    Here: http://www.margomusic.com/ you can see a page I made in Flash where you can see what I mean with the scrolling text inside the box (just let the intro pass and you will see the text)
    And here: http://www.anemaecore.net is another page that adapts perfectly to the size of the browser window, but also made in Flash and also this site changes the size of the text instead of the size of the text container.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks for the replies. I guess I did not ask the question correctly so I will try to explain it better.
    What if I want to use the FTP client inside of Dreamweaver to just connect to my server. I can connect to the FTP (see image) but how can I drag a folder from my desktop into the server using Dreamweaver?
    I have downloaded a folder and I need to add it to my blog which is only on my server. I do not have a Dreamweaver site. Surely Dreamweaver isn't that archaic that you can't upload a file or folder to a server without having to create a site first. It was so much easier in GoLive.

  • Trying to create a text item with a scroll bar in Indesign 5.5

    Is there a simple way to create a scrollable text article in Indesign 5.5? It will later be exported to a SWF as a mini-flash web portfolio.
    I would appreciate any help.
    I'm new to Indesign.

    Do you mean a text box people can type in (for a Web form
    entry) or one for displaying your content?
    If the first, then you use the textarea tag and scrollbars
    appear when the user types more lines that you specify. See the
    textarea

    If the second, then that's usually done in Flash, but can be

  • Mobile vertical scroll bar in Responsive Theme header

    This may be a simple resolution; however, after several searches on this forum, I am unable to find the answer.
    I am using RH 11 with HTML5 (version 11.0.3.268).
    While generating the HTML5 Help, the vertical scroll bar present in the Responsive Theme header was successfully resolve for desktop and tablet.  However, the vertical scroll bar is present in mobile.  Could someone please tell me how this can be resolved?
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    How long is your project title? If your title is long and you are using browse sequences, the header may need to scroll to fit everything.
    Kind regards,

  • Scroll bar does not work when creating a datalist

    So I created a very simple vertical scrollbar from 2 stretched rectangles (a thumb and a track). I also grouped a text field and a square together, that would make up the list items.
    Next, I selected the scrollbar and the list item, and created a data list from them. When I tested the project, however, I could move the scrollbar without any problems, but the items in the list did not move. I also tried adding some more items to the list, which didn't help either.
    Then i tried using the component from Flash Catalyst, instead of my "home-made" scrollbar. Making a data list out of this, and testing the project gave the desired result.
    I'd really like to use my own made scrollbar here, and I have the feeling that I missed something completely obvious on the way that I forgot.
    Note: I checked several times if I had forgotton to "edit the parts" of the scrollbar and data list, but I had selected all the parts as required.

    What you can try if the above doesn't work, is deleting the scroll bar from your Data List, and then dropping it back in from the Library. The act of re-adding the scrollbar may get you the desired behavior.
    If that doesn't work, you will probably need to post your project so we can take a look.

  • Scroll bars & creating buttons problem

    I am trying to create a basic photo browser. The upper area is the enlarged view of the image. The lower portion is a scrollable view of the thumbnails in the directory chosen. I have most of it working...except that the scrollable view doesn't scroll, and the buttons that I created don't cause the image to show up in the main view port.
    There is the main window, divided into two parts: upper and lower. The upper part is the main view, as described above. The lower part is a panel. That lower panel contains two things, another panel and a button. This panel inside the lower section contains the scrollable window; this scrollable window is a viewport onto another panel that contains the dynamically created buttons (which are thumbnails of the images in the directory).
    I was trying to force the scrollbar policy to always show the horizontal bar (that is the only one I want visible) but that wasn't working either; I would get compiler errors when that was included. I have tried adjusting sizes of things, and the order that things are added to the main JFrame.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Creating an instance of a scroll bar in JText

    For some reason, I cannot get create a vertical and horizontal scroll bar in my application. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do to make it work properly?
    Here is a code snippet
    public static void main(String args[])
    Assignment assigner = new Assignment();
    JTextArea outputTextArea = new JTextArea();
    JScrollPane scroll= new JScrollPane(outputTextArea);
    JTextField textField=new JTextField();
    outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num1() + "\n" );
    outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num2() + "\n" );
    outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num3() + "\n" );
    outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num4() + "\n" );
    outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num5() + "\n" );
    outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num6() + "\n" );
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, scroll,
    "Java Program #4, Due March 10, 2003", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
    System.exit(0);
    I thought I created the scroll object with JScroll. Or, it doesn't work if you use more than one append in which case I will have to create one varible for all six methods?

    I am new at Java and really don't know how to incorporate this into my application.
    I inserted your suggestion and received several compiling errors - "a policy class" is neeced, then ")" then type error messages.
    I am afraid I am a bit lost.
    Can you lead into the right direction?

  • How to create 2 scroll bar in 2 canvas

    Hello All,
    I will appreciate if somebody knows how to create 2 scroll bars in 2 Content canvases and all items text item belongs to one data block.
    In data block property it shows only one scroll bar. Their is no property of scroll bar in canvas.
    Regards,
    Atif

    Go to the layout editor.
    Take the Stacked canvas tool in the toolbox
    draw a stacked canvas on the content canvas (the stacked can could be larger than the content one)
    edit you item properties to display on the content canvas
    adjust the window to the same width and weight properties than the content canvas.
    The simplest way it to use the datablock wizard to create the data block, then indicate to show items not on the content canvas but the stacked canvas.

    The whole concept of internal table is to manipulate the data at runtime.
    This replaces the concept of two dimentional array in other languages.
    The power of internal tables is it gets lakhs of records at runtime. I mean it can accomodate lots of records at runtime.
    So you can create a table type in DDIC and use it to declare your internal table.
    Yes, You can create global internal tables for function modules.
    By declaring the internal table in top include you can use this internal table all the function modules of that function group. So if one function module is filling the data another can use it as it is stored globally.
    Hope this answers your curiosity.
    Award points if useful else getback.
    Aleem.
