How to get a scroll bar to the applications popup by default when clicked the applications folder from the dock? If I have so many applications that they do not fit in the default area, I have to find out myselft that I have to scroll the content before the scroll bar appears. This leads to "where is my missing applications questions" by the novice users with Mountain Lion.

System Preferences > General > Show scroll bars.
Click the button by the side of "Always".
Best.

• Scroll bar arrows lockup application

Using an app that utilizes Java to show an image window with scrollbars. When the scrollbar arrows are used, the application locks up. If you just drag the scroll bar, the app works fine. Client platforms are Win XP Pro, Win 2000, Win server 2003. The app may work fine for months, then all of a sudden start having problems. The issue is not java version specific, but we are fairly certain that the problem is java related. Any ideas?

• How can I retrieve the scroll bar in Home applications using OS 10.6.8? I don't have a general section after clicking on System Preferences. Thanks.

I have deleted the scroll bar twice in 4 years and I still don't know how to set it back. Please help.

hi Samberl
thanks a lot for the fast reply.
I was dragging folders from main folders on the laptop-desktop onto the external drive icon - to copy them across....
Your suggestion sounds very promising - I didn't know about 'cloning'.
Yes the idea is to backup the laptop - I thought I would just move it all now, new - and then keep saving/dragging physically across to the new drive myself each day or two...
Would this be the sizeof the internal hard drive = c.500 gb ? = under the HD icon on desktop is written :
" 499.76gb , 311.5 gb free  "
I can erase and start agin on the new external drive - so this plan is to make two partititions, rather than the one at present, and make one of them 500 gb ?
I have found CCC [carbon copy cloner] googling - looks good.
When CCC site says it backs up the hard drive - would this mean all my files [over 100 gb] that are mostly in folders on the desktop, plus the others in itunes, iphotos etc found in the HD icon, would all copy across successfully [wherever they are in the computer ] ?
thanks again, hope you can clarify these things and then I will go for it.
It would be great and amazing if this 'lack of permission' message doesn't show up in the process of doing this ccc transfer - hopeful!

• Application scroll bar not appearing.

Hi,
I have a canvas inside an application container with
constraints 10 along all sides. I have a panel inside the canvas
which has constraints of 10 from bottom left and right and some x
length from the top. Now if the panel children does not fit inside
the container why am i not getting a scroll bar for the application
container to make the container big for all the children to fit?
-nascentmind

For the parent container it is off. But for the application
container it is on. I don't want the scroll bar to come to the
parent container but right up on the application container. I want
all the intermediate containers to adjust its height based on its
children and finally the application container adjust its height
and provide the scroll bar. Should i do it programmatically or is
there any way built in in flex?

• Scroll bar visible but not able to scroll in custom screen for IW21

Hi,
We are using custom tab (screen exit) in transaction for creating notifications (TCode IW21). Two subscreens are configured to be embedded in the tab, combined area of which is exceeding screen size vertically. The scroll bar is visible in the tab but is not able to scroll using mouse scroll, but can be dragged up and down.
Does anyone know how to make it scrollable or make the scroll bar visible at application level (not in tab) and make it working?
Thank you,
Deepak

Hello,
Would you please implement the Methods GET_DATA to get th data from Databas to screen fields and SET_dATA to update thedata from custom screen fields to Data base table in u r case LFB1.

• Creating an instance of a scroll bar in JText

For some reason, I cannot get create a vertical and horizontal scroll bar in my application. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do to make it work properly?
Here is a code snippet
public static void main(String args[])
Assignment assigner = new Assignment();
JTextArea outputTextArea = new JTextArea();
JScrollPane scroll= new JScrollPane(outputTextArea);
JTextField textField=new JTextField();
outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num1() + "\n" );
outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num2() + "\n" );
outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num3() + "\n" );
outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num4() + "\n" );
outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num5() + "\n" );
outputTextArea.append("" + assigner.num6() + "\n" );
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, scroll,
"Java Program #4, Due March 10, 2003", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
System.exit(0);
I thought I created the scroll object with JScroll. Or, it doesn't work if you use more than one append in which case I will have to create one varible for all six methods?

I am new at Java and really don't know how to incorporate this into my application.
I inserted your suggestion and received several compiling errors - "a policy class" is neeced, then ")" then type error messages.
I am afraid I am a bit lost.
Can you lead into the right direction?

• Why do the scroll bars quickly dissapear in firefox on OSX 10.9?

I am running OSX 10.9 Maverick on a Macbook Pro . I observe this problem in Firefox 25.1 The scroll bars in any application window all dissapear after about a second. If you resize the window or select an item with subdirectories in a list, the scroll bar in the pane you are in reappears, but it does not dwell long enough to allow you to move a cursor over it. (What is the point of making it dissapear anyway?) Two finger scrolling does not work for some reason, using a function and direction key or just a direction key works to scroll only in some websites but not all of them. This little bit of cleverness, if intentional is both un-needed and dysfunctional.

This answer solves the problem for me.
However, it does not address the fact that under Apples OSX 10.9 Maverick, touchpad scrolling currently does not always work, even when you have a touchpad device, and the very latest OS and version of Firefox. The default scroll bar setting for OSX 10.9 ought to be hardware sensitive and set to always on as the default, Other settings might work on an iPad or iPhone device and their competitor clones, I cannot confirm that, but we know that it does not work for all web applications on all touchpad devices. Not even the ones Apple make themselves.

Open General preferences in System Preferences. You can set the desired scrollbar behavior there.

• Missing Scroll Bar from Applications Folder in Dock

When I click the Applications Folder from the Dock in the Grid format, the scrollbar is missing. The only way to "scroll down," to other apps is by pressing the up/down arrow keys, in which the vertical bar briefly pops up but then disappears (no arrows pop up). I can view the Applications Folder as normal in Finder, but I prefer to just be able to click and scroll from the Dock.
I've tried switching from Fan to List to Grid to Automatic, etc. Whenever I return to Grid, there's still no scrollbar.
No scroll bar visible...
Vertical scroll bar shows up when I use the Up/Down arrows on keyboard, but then disappears again; no arrows visible.

From your system preferences under general, you can select if you want scrollbar to only show when actively scrolling, always, or based on mouse or trackpad.

1. There is an extra white space that comes after the last column in all the applications table, when there is no scroll lbar.

2. If the scroll bar comes up then, there is an extra white space on top of the scroll bar.

• Problem getting vertical scroll bar in tree

Hi,
I am adding nodes to a tree control dynamically. But somehow,
a vertical scroll bar doesn't appear during the process. I guess,
somehow, the tree is not able to detect the change in the height,
hence, is not giving the vertical scroll bar. However, after a node
has been populated with the sub-nodes, when I close that node and
re-open it, then the scroll bar appears. I really need to fix it as
soon as possible. Plz help!
Thanks in advance,
Cheree

• Replace horizontal scroll in a spark list?

I've gotten myself confused...
1. I create a new component based on Spark List, "MyList.mxml"
2. I open it, and in design view I say "create copy of skin"
3. I open ListSkin1.mxml.
I want to replace the scroll bar with a custom skinned one. I am not sure where to do this...
1. I create a new component based on HScrollBar "MyScrollbar.mxml"
Now what? Where so I specify in the List component -- or its skin -- do I specify the new scroll bar?

OK, this is a little crude, but seems to work (and was a lot less complex than I initially thought). My main app looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo">
<fx:Style>
@namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
s|List s|Scroller {
horizontalScrollPolicy: on;
verticalScrollPolicy: on;
s|List s|HScrollBar {
skinClass: ClassReference("TrackThumbOnlyHSBSkin");
</fx:Style>
<s:List id="list" width="100" height="100" horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0">
<s:dataProvider>
<s:ArrayList>
<fx:Object label="The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" />
<fx:Object label="One" />
<fx:Object label="Two" />
<fx:Object label="Three" />
<fx:Object label="Four" />
<fx:Object label="Five" />
<fx:Object label="Six" />
<fx:Object label="Seven" />
<fx:Object label="Eight" />
<fx:Object label="Nine" />
</s:ArrayList>
</s:dataProvider>
</s:List>
</s:Application>
And my custom HScrollBar skin, TrackThumbOnlyHSBSkin.mxml, is as follows:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:SparkSkin xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:fb="http://ns.adobe.com/flashbuilder/2009"
minWidth="35" minHeight="15"
alpha.disabled="0.5" alpha.inactive="0.5">
<s:states>
<s:State name="normal" />
<s:State name="disabled" />
<s:State name="inactive" />
</s:states>
<fx:Metadata>
<![CDATA[
[HostComponent("spark.components.HScrollBar")]
]]>
</fx:Metadata>
<fx:Script fb:purpose="styling">
<![CDATA[
/* Define the skin elements that should not be colorized.
For scroll bar, the skin itself is colorized but the individual parts are not. */
static private const exclusions:Array = ["track", "thumb"];
override public function get colorizeExclusions():Array {
return exclusions;
override protected function initializationComplete():void {
useBaseColor = true;
super.initializationComplete();
]]>
</fx:Script>
<!--- Defines the skin class for the HScrollBarSkin's track. The default skin class is HScrollBarTrackSkin. -->
<s:Button id="track" left="0" right="0" width="54"
focusEnabled="false"
skinClass="spark.skins.spark.HScrollBarTrackSkin"
baseColor="haloGreen"/>
<!--- Defines the skin class for the HScrollBarSkin's thumb. The default skin class is HScrollBarThumbSkin. -->
<s:Button id="thumb"
focusEnabled="false" visible.inactive="false"
skinClass="spark.skins.spark.HScrollBarThumbSkin"
baseColor="haloBlue"/>
</s:SparkSkin>
So I was wrong. I didnt need a custom List skin, or Scroller skin... just the one custom HScrollBar skin (and presumably a custom VScrollBar skin -- and possibly more skins depending on how custom you want the scrollbar left/right top/bottom buttons and/or thumb/track skins).
