Scrollable Text Area

Hi, I have inherited a website that uses javascript/DHTML to
create a scrollable text area. I suspect it was created using a
Dreamweaver extension as the pages with scrollable text contain the
following comment lines:
// Extension developed by David G. Miles
// Original Scrollable Area code developed by Thomas Brattli.
I’m no Javascript or DHTML expert but it looks good and
it still works in IE7. My question is, how do I edit the text that
scrolls? It is not initially visible in design view, unless I place
the cursor in either of these two lines in the code window:
<div id="divContainer" style="z-index: 2">
<div id="divContent">
Although this reveals the text in the design window, if I try
and click on the text to edit it, it disappears. I can find the
text in the code window, and I could edit it there, but I have a
lot of changes to make and I would prefer to make them with some
visual feedback of the formatting. Does anybody know if this is
possible?
I've tried searching for info on the web, but all the pages
that I can find point to
http://www.z3roadster.net/dreamweaver/.
This address does not exist and the domain (www.z3roadster.net)
comes up with an asp.net error page.
Also, is it necessary for the site to use frames for this
Javascript/DHTML to work?

Now way for anyone to know for sure without a link to your
page to see what code it uses. One suggestion would be to copy and
paste the text into another document make the necessary edits and
then paste it back into the original document.

Unless the script you are talking about uses a iframe within
the divs to create the scrollable area (which is doesn't seem to do
if you can see the text of the scrollable area in the code), then
it seems from your description that it should work, but only way to
tell is for you to pull the frames out.

  • INTERACTIVE PDF QUESTION - Scrollable Text Area

I am trying to do my resume in a interactive pdf and need more room than my page offers.
Is there a way to make a interactive pdf with a text box in place that has hidden text that can be scrolled up or down to read.
Basically make the text area look like a placed web page within the interactive pdf with scroll bars.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe

If you want the scrollable text in the interactive pdf, and you are using indesign to create it do like this
    Export to interactive pdf
Open the pdf in Adobe livecycle Designer and create textbox where you want and remove the Limit Text checkbox
Then Export it to the pdf
I think it will solve your porblem

  • A scrollable text area

    Hi guys,
    I have only a question:
Doesn't the HAVI API have a scrollable component for text? Haven't I found it?
Have I to write this class by my hand?
    Thanks to all

    hello there
there is a component: HMultiLineEntry ...
I tested on the emulator and it worked,: show even the scrollbar
but now on the set-top-box there isnt any scrollable area
anyone worked on HMultiLineEntry here before? can anybody give a sample?

  • JOptionDialog - add a text area

is there a way to add a disabled JTextArea to a JOptionDialog?
(I want to have a scrollable text area since I have a lot of text to show - and JDOptionDialog has it all in place already - an Icon, buttons and such...)
or is writing my own Dialog the only solution?

    In the API documentation for JOptionPane.showxxxDialog, you'll see that one of the parameters you can use is "Object message" This Object can be something besides a String. For example, a panel with a label and a text area.          JTextArea ta = new JTextArea("Some text");
              JLabel label = new JLabel("some label");
              JPanel p = new JPanel();
              p.add(label);
              p.add(ta);
              String result = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,p);

  • Read-Only text area

    Hi,
I'm using a text area to display a longer read-only text. It should display only 5 lines and, if the text is longer, it should be scrollable. Works fine as long as I set the attribute Editable to true. But if I set it to No (because it should be read-only), I get the following problems:
    - It does not show only the 5 lines anymore, but the complete text without scrollbars.
    - It shrinks the size of the text area, so that it fits the text inside. You can see that looking at the borders. But I wanted to have the borders at the original size independent of the text.
Does anyone knows, how to solve that?
    Thanks&Regards
    Matthias

to the best of my knowledge, if you make it read-only you cannot have the scroll bar enabled. and whatever you explained is the expected behaviour!!
But, i have a workaround under three conditions:
    1. if you need the scroll bar
    2. if you want the size of it as in the initial state - without disturbing the existing size and format of page
    3. you wish to retain the value
keep the value of the text area in a temporary object and pass it to the reference attribute on submit of page. (here we are just retaining the value and not making it read-only)
this helps in keeping the format of page undisturbed!!

  • Problems trying to create scrollable text in InDesign CC

I'm making an interactive presentation in InDesign. Im trying to create some scrollable text. i didn't know how to do that in CC, so I looked up some videos over the web and learned I needed to use the "Folio Builder" or the "Overlay panel". i never was able to find the latter and the Folio Builder gives me this message: "A software update is required to use Digital Publishing Suite. Please go to the Help menu and select Updates to get the required software." My software is already up-to-date (at least that's what the Adobe Application Manager tells me). Is this happening because I'm using a trial version? I'm planning to buy the Creative Cloud package but first I need to know it's worthy. Thanks for your help!

You are most likely looking at some very old videos. As it happens my DPS
course was just released on lynda.com:

  • Preview and scrollable text problems

Is anyone else having problems getting the scrollable text function to work in an overlay to a fixed layout ePub? I have the latest version of InDesign CC, purchased last week.
Here is a picture of my file. As you can see, it's pretty darn simple. Content box is on the right. You can't see the entire box but It is long enough to fit all of my text. On the left, I created a container box, wider but shorter than the content box. I then selected the content and used Paste Into to put the content into the container. Next, I selected the container, went to Folio Overlays, and I designated the content box as vertical scrolling, start at upper left, and Vector format. But when when I tried to preview it (more on preview problems in a minute), the container appears as a simple text box with no scrolling capability. I've asked the Adobe help people and they don't seem to have any ideas yet.
As far as preview goes, well, I can export to Adobe Digital Editions or I can look at the page in Window/Interactive/EPUB Interactivity Preview. But File/Folio Preview just processes the page and then returns nothing. And the same thing happens when I hit Preview in the Folio Overlays panel.
I'd love to know if this is unique to my system or a common problem. Since I only purchased CC to produce annotated books, there is not much I can do without it. And if CC doesn't do it, does anyone have a suggestion for something a non-programmer could use to get the same result?
    Thanks for any help.

Scrollable frames are a DPS -- Digital Publishing Suite-- function (as are all other effects from the Folio Overlay panel). Those are a different beast than Fixed-Layout EPUBs.
For fixed-layout, all interactivity is supported (any panel in the Windows > Interactive flyout) except for Forms, Page Transitions, and the two Animation presets Smoke and Blur. Note that the panels Folio Builder and Folio Overlays are not part of the Interactive group of panels.
    I know it's very confusing!
If you're trying to create an *app* then you use DPS, and you should be asking this question in the DPS forum.

  • Is a scrollable text frame possible with hyperlinks embedded in the text?

I'm new to this whole digital design world. I have a document set up with several links, some active buttons and I am struggling with this scrollable text frame. I have the frame finally working but it only scrolls from the preview button in the overlay creator panel. From the Preview Window, preview on the Internet, or exported as a SWF everything but the scrolling frame. Anyone have any suggestions??

You can, but it's not very elegant. For one thing, whatever text you have will have to basically be on another webpage addressable by URL in the iframes expression. I guess it would work, though. It's just like having two pages, where maybe one would suffice, you know?
There are some javascript examples that I have come across that would probably work. The HTML tags seem to be unreliable....I have seen some that only work on IE and not for the mozilla based browsers.
Anyways, here's an example of a scrolling iframe....it's the messageboard from my Guestmap...
    http://guestmap.dirtdoog.com
As you can see...it's not great, but it's workable.

  • Ebooks, scrollable text, pdfs

    Hello all,
I am creating a simple ebook in indesign, using scrollable text. It is not working in an interactive pdf export. Is there a workaround for this?
I am creating a simple editors proofing pdf, and it would be great if that worked. I can create an alternative layout for the pages with scrollable text, but i rather do extra coding work than, "proofing" layout work.
Also, I think we may have other applications for the interactive pdf besides proofing if I can get it to work.
Also, I am having interactive pdf issues with buttons revealing object states and folio slideshows.
if there is a book or adobe tv lesson, please feel free to share.
Thank you for your time in advance.

Scrollable text is a DPS feature as are slideshows via MSO. MSOs also
    work in SWF.
You may want to buy this book: http://amzn.to/13N06jN , Digital
Publishing with Adobe InDesign CS6. It will help you sort out the
    different options for electronic publishing.

  • SCROLLABLE TEXT PROB;EM NOT WORKING

I am having problems with the scrollable text. I placed a big jpeg image. I want to create a scrollable text on that so I made a layer for that. Even I went to paste and board through preference pannel and changed to 1024pixels for the horizontal version. Now I put the text on the past board and with the same name I also created a layer of Caontainer wher I made a box on Indseign active board and put this layer where I created the frame with the same name. Now when I save and go to the preview folio my scrollable text does not work.
Do I have to do some thing in overlays or any thing in In Design

To answer to your first two questions: If I'm understanding you, you are correct. The 7 page magazine would have to all be in the same folio in the Folio Builder. Creating a new folio in the Folio Builder would create another project.
To import multiple articles, each InDesign file should be in its own folder. Those folders should then all be in one folder called simply called "folio" (when naming files and folders, the simpler the better).
I don't know what you mean by TOC images.
It sounds like you need to do some research and read up on the basics.
This website has some very good information: https://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/topics.html
    I hope this helps.

  • Scrollable text out of control...

When I post the .swf file to the net inside a dynamic
scrollable text box I created the font (Myriad Pro) defaults to a
sarif font on PC's, and on my Mac Safari is is not anti aliased.
Just one more thing...I justified the text inside the box and when
it gets published it never justifies.

    What are you talking about?
Please clearly explain what the issue is.

  • Scrollable text issues

    Hi everyone,
I'm about to convert a book to be used on an iPad. The book consists of several chapters/articles that range from 4 to 30+ pages.
On some of the pages I work with scrollable text.
My workflow is the same as described here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/digitalpubsuite/using/WS67cb9e293e2f1f605e 8ea44412b13edc5ec-8000.html
Most of the times it works as promised, but sometimes it doesn't! I have try to find out why it sometimes doesn't work. It seems random and it's driving me crazy.
I have experimented with creation order, i.e. container frame first, then text frame, etc.
I have done tests with renaming the container frame and text frame in the layers pannel
I have made sure that both frames are correctly aligned, etc.
I have reset and re-applied the Pan Only option in the Overlay Creator panel
I have made sure that the workflow and settings are the same on all pages
but still it sometimes simply doesn't work!
I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this. Any ideas?
    Kind regards
    Tim

    Hi Bob,
    I have tested again.
In a short article (4 pages) everything works just fine in horizontal and vertical layout.
However in a long article (41 pages) the vertical scrolling of text in the horizontal layout simply doesn't work except a one exception. I have checked all the settings - they are identical.
The strange thing is that if I preview the horizontal layout in the ADOBE Content Viewer all the scrolling works just fine, but as soon as I add the complete article consisting of horizontal and vertical layout to the folio things stop to work.
This is really frustrating. Maybe it's necessary to re-think the layout and avoid scrollable content since it so unreliable.
Right now I have no idea how get this to work.
    The tools I use are: InDesign CS5.5 on OSX 10.6.8, FolioPanel-CS55-12_1_3, FolioProducerTools-CS55-1-9-1
    Any help would be apprechiated.
    Kind regards
    Tim

  • Scrollable Text Component

I need to make a scrollable text component which reads characters from an InputStream object. I have two questions.
Q1: My first attempt was to make a Text Area but I couldn't find any ways to easily make it scrollable. The method in the JTextComponent class that returns the scrollable object needs a Rectangle object in its paramaters. But I don't have a Rectangle object, I have a Text Area object. This gets me thinking that perhaps I should be using a different object than a Text Area. So, what class/object should I use from the API to make a scrollable text component?
Q2: I want this scrollable Text Component to read characters from an InputStream object. How can I do this easily?

  • CP8: Custom question using multiple TEBs / Scrollable Text Widgets

    Hi,
I want to create a custom question with multiple Text Entry Boxes (TEBs) or Scrollable Text Widgets (STWs) that is compatible with HTML5.
User has to enter just one word in each TEB / STW i.e. a one line STW.
I want the user to be able to Retry the question i.e. click Retry button to automatically clear the TEBs / STWs that are incorrect.
Question is not being scored or reported to an LMS.
    TEBs:
I'm assuming you can't clear a TEB so I tried using a STW.
    STWs:
FYI: I'm clearing the STW using Null.
The issues I am trying to resolve are:
    1. Disabling the Enter key so that the 1 line STW will behave like a TEB i.e. doesn’t move to the 2nd line, and the Up Down scrollable indicators aren't displayed.
There is a post that suggests executing JS on Slide Enter but I already have an Advanced Action associated with Slide Enter.
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1451011?q=disabling%20Enter%20key
    2. When retrying a question how do I disable STWs i.e. ones that contains a correct answer so user can't change it. (I know the Disable action won't work)
I am using Captivate 8.0.1.242 on Windows 8.
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    Donal.

Some answers, probably not all what you want. I blogged about using the Scrolling Text (formerly the TextArea widget) several times.
In Captivate 8 you can indeed control what is shown in the Scrolling Text Interaction, by changing the associated variable. That was not possible before this version (have been begging for it, finally with success) and it is still not possible for a Text Entry Box. You can change the value of the variable, but it will not be visible in the TEB.
An interaction is automatically reset when re-entering the slide, maybe that can help you as well? That is not the case for a TEB.
Disabling  has no sense for an interaction that is static, only for interactive objects (and interactions). That means that you can disable a TEB, but not a Text Scrolling Interaction.
Maybe this tip to prevent changing a correct answer for the interaction:  replace the interaction by a similar looking text container with the value of the variable if the answer is correct.
