Scrolling of several ContainerController

Hi,
I have a TextFlow with several containerControllers. Is it possible to scroll several linked containers? It appears that the text placed in each containers can't "move" a controller to another ... Solutions exist, or I need to implement a custom scrolling?

I think you want to scroll your text through several linked containers. That's an interesting use case but TLF doesn't support that natively.
With scrolling enabled TLF supports two cases of scrolling in horizontal text.
1) vertical scrolling in the last only by setting vertical scrollpostion. That doesn't push text into the previous container
2) horizontal scrolling in all containers when text stretches out beyond. Generally this only happens when the textFlow's lineBreak property is set to "explicit".
You'll need to do some type of custom scrolling to move text through the chain of containers.

I have finally cracked it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The issue is definitely with Java Sun. "Uneven character spacing when printing JTextComponent"
It is raised on the http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6488219
And currently in OPEN state, and raised on 31 Oct 2006 and mentions it was caused by fix 4352983.
So where do we go from here. It's not good because I have tried all later version of the JVM and the issue is still there.
Why? Because it hasn't been fixed yet. Read the bug report above, as it gives more insight -- and mentions the workaround is NOT good for existing code.
So the way forward is to use an earlier version of the JVM 5.
I download the JVM version 1.5.0 (starting version) and works Ok... I would probably think version prior to 4352983 would be Ok too.
Please vote for this.... We have a workaround (use older version of the JVM).
So I am very happy.

Feedback on several containerController

Hi,
If you use several dynamic ContainerContainer, the last container must NOT be empty. Otherwise you can get some #1009 error on text selection... in any case, it's my case.
In my app, if the text in the TextFlow is not present in all containerController, it is impossible to select text. In the method scrollTimerHandler(event: Event) (on ContainerController), findFirstAndLastVisibleLine () return an array of null object, and an #1009 error is throws (lastVisibleLine is null).
Now I test the existence of the text in all containerController, and it works fine. But It seems to me that is a little annoying if we not being able to create empty ContainerContainer...
It's an unusual case of use ? The last ContainerController must not be empty? Perhaps, I use a bad way for the creation of containerControllers (even if it seems to me that this is not very complicated). anyone else with this type of problem?

I use the last version of TLF ( I checkout the Flex4 Sdk on Svn ). My version is actually 483 (712413).
I have build a basic app : see the zip project attached for the exemple of my problem.

During the creation of my example, I find something strange .... If you uncomment the line 153 of Class TlfComponent, there is apparently any more problem ...

Automatic scrolling after several clicks in sidebar?

Hi,
To my annoyance, everytime I am reading a long document, clicking in the righthand sidebar to move down page by page, after a certain number of consecutive clicks the document starts racing by to its end with some sort of automatic scrolling.
Does anyone have an idea of how to switch this annoying feature off?

Force Quit .
Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
When Force Quit window appears, select Safari, if not already.
Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window. Wait.
Application will quit.
If this does not help, press the power button for 7 or more seconds.
Computer will shut down.
Restart.
Hold the shift key down and launch Safari.

Have a tab group with 18 tabs. When all tabs open scrolling through them is very slow. Any thoughts.

I use the scroll wheel on my mouse. When I scroll with the wheel there is a major lag time and most of the time it scrolls past several tabs.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Gestures, Dock and Scrolling are lagging

Hello everybody!
Since yesterday i have the problem of lagging gesture movements, a lagging dock or lagging scrolling in several browsers. With lagging I mean stuttering movement of the animations. The problem appeard out of nowhere and i searched the whole internet for troubleshooting. Neither creating a new user, nor starting in save mode solved the problem. Also I already cleared the chace in the library folder and used the task-manager to spot the problem, both without success. The only weird thing i could spot was the kernel_task using high amounts of the memory and CPU.
I don't have a clue what the problem is. The only way out I see for now would be reinstalling the OS X (Mavericks), which probably is my emergency solution. Is there anybody who can help me?

Ok, I didn't believe it by myself, but I fixed the program by simply running AutoCAD 2013. Found the solution in another conversation. Just opened it once and now the whole system is lag-free again. Weird!

Scrolling too fast with Asus touchpad.

I have a problem when scrolling down pages using two fingers on my touch pad.
I have installed Asus Smart Gestures and enabled "two finger scrolling" and it works fine in every program except Firefox. In Firefox it is being really frustrating, when i try to scroll down i move my fingers barely a millimeter and it scrolls down several pages almost instantly. It is being impossible to do anything in Firefox.
Is there an option where i can adjust sensitivity?

hello milanpandurov, you could either try to tweak the scrolling settings for firefox with an extension like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yet-another-smooth-scrolling or generally disable smooth scrolling in firefox > options > advanced > general & see if this is making a difference...

Safari self scrolling back up the page

When browsing through newspapers and scrolling down several lines, the screen will go up to the beginning of the page constantly. How can I avoid it?

Do they still occur if you restart the system?
Is there a particular event that triggers them to occur (eg wake from sleep, specific applications, etc.)?
Did you make any changes or install any updates that coincided with the onset of the gray lines?

How come I need a scroll bar?

I just updated my Firefox and now I have to use scroll bars to see the whole page. I'd like to see everything without them. I've tried adjusting the zoom and searched for other settings...I don't have this problem with IE...

Problem with extending an extended class

I have to use a scrolled list several times among my program so I create a class named ScrolledList that extends Jpanel and an inner class that extends ScrolledLIst.
The problem shows up when I?m trying to add an item inside the inner class, the code pass compilation, it even enter the addItem() but its dont add item

I can't open last closed tab, doesn't start with last tabs

I recently noticed that I cannot open the last closed tab (the selection is there, but is greyed out).
Then, when rebooting, I notice that the system does not restore the last visited tabs - even though that selection is made in the Options.
I recently installed KeePass and it's extension in Firefox and it seems to work well (I don't actually use it often). And, recently I had a glitch where the system would resize my pages (as if I was holding the Ctrl key down while scrolling.
Several reboots fixed this issue - but now I can't resize by holding the Ctrl key and scrolling (although holding Ctrl and tapping the - key will resize the window).
Any ideas on how to fix this without a total reinstall? I've been copying my Firefox profile from one computer to another for years and am concerned about losing my saved data/preferences.

Can't get into IPad 2 after latest update. HELP, PLEASE!??

I made the mistake of updating my IPad 2 to the latest IOS7. Now I cannot get into it. When I turn it on, it says 'hello' and to swipe to set up the new update. Sometimes the swipe brings up a new screen; sometimes it just scrolls through several languages. Sometimes it asks for my Apple ID and gets as far as "updating ICloud." It NEVER finishes updating ICloud!
I cannot reach my apps or a normal looking screen. Can someone help, please? Is there any way to get this update to work or to UNDO the update? I'll be grateful if you can help....... Thank you so much!

Zooming and Margins

I recently bought the Sony PRS-950, mainly to use for reading and annotating academic papers, most of which come as PDFs, generated or scanned. So far, I've been very happy about it displays PDFs --- even on scanned PDFs, pages turn very quickly --- and the touch and stylus input are very convenient, but I've run into several issues:
1) The "Margin Cut" display mode does not cut nearly as much as it should. It's hard to quantify, but even on PDFs that were not scanned (and thus have no noise to confuse the detection), it never seems to reduce the margin even by half.
2) Many PDFs are not amenable to being reflowed, but, the way PRS-950 is shaped, should be very readable (at original text size or bigger) in Landscape mode. However, in the Landscape mode, the maximum zoom level the slider allows is too small, and I can't magnify the text to use the reader's full height (i.e. width when turned sideways). In fact, even at maximum zoom, the gray "empty space" beyond the edges of the sheet shows.
3) The annotation feature works very well, but it's a little annoying that magnification has to be turned off when annotating. I can understand why that needs to be done when the text had been reflowed (i.e. is shown in size other than S), but while I wouldn't presume to know how hard it would be to program, can't the pen input be "mapped" back to the original coordinates for simple zoom?
4) A minor UI annoyance I've noticed is that when the Options button menu appears, the Orientation button is always at the bottom, which means that to reach it in Landscape mode takes several taps, even though it's one of the most frequently used choices.
I think that this is a good device, and I will probably keep it, but in light of these issues, I would hesitate recommending it to others, especially if they don't have my relatively young eyes. Are there workarounds known for any of these? Is it likely that they might be resolved in firmware upgrades in the near future?

Thank you for the workaround. It looks like it even works in the two-column mode, although not for scanned documents, which is understandable. I've also found this workaround for overcoming the maximum zoom in Landscape mode: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showth ... p?t=111786 , and they seem to work together, so that ameliorates the problem somewhat.
However, when in the zoom-lock mode, paging through the document is very tedious: pressing or gesturing to continue reading makes the reader show the same area on the next page, rather than scrolling down, so in order to page through the document, I have to:
1) Press (Zoom) Unlock.
2) On the manual zoom screen, scroll down.
3) Press Lock.
and that's if I am still on the same page. If I am on the bottom of the page, I have to:
1) Press the Next button (or gesture to turn the page).
2) Press (Zoom) Unlock.
3) On the manual zoom screen, scroll up several times.
4) Press Lock.
Ideally, the behavior should be something like this:
1) In "Margin Cut" and "Original" Page Modes, the maximum zoom level in the Landscape mode should be at least enough that on a Letter-sized document with 1.25 inch margins (i.e. a 6 inch text column), the text should occupy the entire height (width in Landscape mode) of the device. This would let it be displayed in the size it would have had on paper. (A slightly higher maximum zoom level to display it slightly magnified would be nice.)
2) In the zoom-lock mode, pressing or gesturing "Next" should scroll straight down and only go to the next page if the bottom of the page has been reached. (It would be nice to have it handle two-column and three-column scrolling as well.) This is particularly important for scanned documents. (A lot of old scientific papers are only available in that form.)
Are we likely to see such a fix in a firmware update?

Is there a way to get a TV episode from my iPad to my MacBook?

This was the first time I've ever downloaded video content from iTunes. I decided to buy it via my iPad 2 and download it there.
Everything worked smoothly. But now I can't figure out how to back it up on my MacBook. I thought it would happen automatically when I synced, but it didn't. From what I'm seeing, it looks like performing a sync in iTunes will just wipe out the episode on the iPad entirely, in favor of the zero episodes on my MacBook. Do I really need to buy third-party software?
Any thoughts? Should I just chalk this up to a learning experience and let this episode go once I can buy it on DVD next year? Any third-party software recommendations? (Note that my MacBook is several years old and cannot run Mac-based apps.)
I'd like to download more episodes, but I don't want to do anything until I get a handle on what's best. (And my apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere in the community. I've done searches for keywords then scrolled through several screens, though, and I've found nothing. I've also checked two iPad 2 books. Nothing seems to address this situation.)

Is there any way to be sure about book progression using VoiceOver Utility?

I am able to load and display iBooks products using VoiceOver utility without issues, which I'm very happy about. The main issue seems to be in the way the text is displayed, however. I can never be sure how the text scrolls. I might be able to scroll down several lines of text without incidents, maybe a few paragraphs in a row, but there will come a time when I have to progress to the right. Or maybe go further to the top. It never seems to make a lot of sense, and so I am left with serious difficulties reading books as they were meant to be read. I can use the Speak option from the edit menu, but that doesn't quite help, since the system doesn't save the progress you make using this reading method, meaning there's no way to pause (as far as I'm aware).
My question, essentially: is there a way for me to know with absolute certainty how to progress through a text from A to Z? Alternatively, is there a way for me to display the text in a more manageable, column-less way so that text scrolls naturally from top to bottom? Thanks!
