Scrolling, Unwanted

[Just one day less than one, entire week has passed, but I still have no reply to this issue.  So I re-posted it, adding a-little, both Here & There:  :-) ]
Still, I use Mac OS X v10.8.5.  I do not feel comfortable at upgrading my iMac to Mavericks, yet.
In Quicken Essentials, seeing the transaction that I am entering _suddenly_ run off-screen usually-upwards Frustrates me.  But I know that this is a problem with Mac OS X v10.8.5, not Quicken Essentials alone.  (I see this scrolling happen in Pages, too.)
This devilish Scrolling happens in Safari, too.  Brief but-Irritating.  < Get back down here! >
I _suspect_ that being hard-wired to the Internet might be responsible.  This is just a Wild Hunch of-mine, however.
Could this be Apple’s way to say, “Upgrade to Mavericks, pretty-please?”  Maybe Mavericks has this scrolling problem, too?  What do _you_ think?  Thank you, kind reader.  :-)

Have you tried going to System Preferences/Mouse or Trackpad (depending on which you are using) and adjusting the Tracking Speed?
Next time you don't get an answer of a while, just Reply to yourself and type bump. Saves a lot of typing.

  • Unwanted Scrolling, Again & Batteries

I _think_ that my iMac is sick.  Do you wonder, "Why?"
Because _all_ I do is to _touch_ the mouse & my iMac scrolls briefly but-rapidly upwards.  [And later, replacing the mouse's batteries does _not_ help, not a whit!]
Hold on, please:  the battery level of my mouse is a-whole 9%.  But I think that the battery level doesn't matter.  So hold-on while I install new re-chargable AA batteries, please.
[WHY  does Apple make it so-hard to open its mouse?  On its bottom is a tiny toggle switch, that can be in the Green-exposed or the Black-exposed Position.  What do these mean?  Does Green mean that the mouse is ready to-use _or_ that the batteries can be removed?  Which, please?]
I replaced the batteries in my mouse, expecting to see 100%.  But they are at 87%.  What a Rip!
On the Bright side, I own not 1 but _2_ sets of re-chargable AA batteries.  I would appreciate reading any comments that you may have.  Thank you.
    P. S.  After venting my ideas, I feel better for awhile.  But slowly, my anger will grow as I use my mouse.

Hmmm, about my Unwanted Scrolling discussion, I see No Reply after a full day or two.
Does this mean _either_ that I stumped you _or_ that you do not see this problem?  [Either way, I remain un-satisfied.  :-( ]
So still, I think that my unwanted scrolling may be because I live Hard-wired to the Internet.  (But even this remains a Theory:  a Pet Theory, but still a Theory.)

(I know that my problem may not be with Mac OS X v10.8.5 only, but I use that today.)  Again, I tell that my iMac goes a-little Crazy when it scrolls all by-itself.
One-place that my iMac does un-wanted scrolling is in Quicken Essentials.  There often, the transaction that I enter can run-up off-screen.  < Aaargh:  Get Back Down Here to See! >   Anyone else see this, please?  (Misery loves Company, yes?)
    P. S.  How nifty that the colors of the text pasted-through.  If _you_ can't see them, then to _my_ eyes, Quicken Essentials appears in brown & < Aaargh! ... > appears in dark-red.  :-)  :-)
    P. P. S.  About me using older Mac OS X v10.8.5, my iMac has 4 GB of RAM.  Before I Break-down & Upgrade to Mavericks (Mac OS X v10.9), I'll feel more-comfortable with another 4 MB of RAM.  (My total RAM will be 8 MB.)

  • Unwanted hor-scroll bars in IE

    Hello all,
I have designed a web page in Dreamweaver MX using frames
(3-T,L,C) when I view it in Firefox scroll bars appear on the right
side, which is correct, but when I view it in IE scroll bars appear
on the right AND the bottom, even thow there is nothing to scroll
    left or right too.
I have tried the scrolling="no", resizing the frames, etc. My
video size is 1024x768, but the HTML file is only 800 wide, which
should fit no problem in 1024.
Also, I only get the hor-scroll bar when there is a right
scroll bar. In other words, if what I have on a page is longer than
the page, a right scroll bar appears, along with a bottom one. Very
    bizzare!!
Any ideas how to get rid of the bottom scroll bar in IE?
    Much appreciated.

Without checking too deeping, I believe it could be because
    your header is
around the 800px width. So when you resize the window to
    about 800*600 you
get a scroll in the bottom area to match the width at the
    top. Even though
that bottom frame may not be as wide at the top, the browser
    has to take
into account all the widths of the page elements.

  • Mavericks: Emacs and Terminal randomly scroll / jump around (unwanted scrolling)

Both terminal and emacs just randomly jump around from time to time, often by a full viewing page or more. I assume this has something to do with "responsive scrolling" and the other scrolling bugs (mostly involving sudden failure to scroll) reported for other apps, but I haven't found discussion of this random jumping around / random scrolling problem.
To give more details: I'm on a new 15" macbook pro running Mavericks 10.9.1 (behavior in 10.9.0 was the same). Terminal is Version 2.4 (326). Emacs is gnu emacs from http://emacsformacosx.com/, version 24.3 (9.0), but it had the same behavior with a much older (2008) version of carbon emacs.
Anyone have any idea how to deal with this (other than "wait a year for Apple to fix things")?
    Thanks.

No, this also happens for terminal, which is an Apple-supplied application (nothing to do with running emacs, I don't run emacs in the terminal).  Also, I did re-install emacs, as I mentioned I'm currently using the latest stable version, but the 2008 version I had been using previously had exactly the same behavior.

  • Unwanted/unneeded scroll bars in Safari 4

I have a blog (www.RabbiBen.org) that suddenly began to show scroll bars next to each entry, in addition to the usual bars at the right side of a window. These bars only appear in Safari, not in any other browser I have tried. Is there a way to get rid of them in Safari?
My guess is no, given the number of posts regarding problems with Safari 4. Maybe Apple rushed this release too much.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Ben Sendrow

Just looked at you page. Imeditly I knew what the problem was...
Here's the text box div tag, div class="sfblogentry"...
*The css for the above div should be set to none for scroll bars or not set at all in the css.* The scroll bar is set to auto. When set to auto some browsers will show a scroll bar even is one is not needed. Or, when set to auto the text inside the div is so close to the inner walls of the text box. The browser will trigger for a scroll bar even if a scroll bar is not needed.
Here's a link to what your page should look like in Safari.
Click to view your fixed sample web page.
Was an easy fix took less than a minute to fix. There may be some elements missing and I didn't want to short through all the css pages to re-link them. There is six some odd css pages. Way to many css pages for a simple page like your.
To be honest with you, the html and css coding is a mess. If someone else was to take over the coding for your web page. It would be faster to rebuild the site than to work with what you have been provided.

  • How can I eliminate unwanted horizontal scroll bars from certain pages on my site?

A few pages on my website have a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the browser. I have several other pages in the exact same format and none of them have the horizontal scroll. No elements are off the edge of the page or anything. I'm a designer and don't know code, which is why I'm using Muse, but all the forums I've checked so far give coding solutions that I don't understand or know how to apply to my Muse site. Anyone have any suggestions?

Can you post a URL for your site? (You could publish a free temporary site on Adobe Business Catalyst and provide the URL.)
Other than the page being wider than the browser window or there being content that's outside the page bounds, I don't know what else to tell you to look for. If you provide a URL, we can probably detect what's causing the horizontal scrollbar and let you know what needs to change.

  • Unwanted verticle scroll bar

    Good afternoon,
I have noticed the presence of a verticle scroll bar where
    there shouldn't be one.
I create a Captivate project and publish it with no borders
and no skins (no playbar). I make sure the size of the file
generated by the project will comfortably fit in a 1013px by 713px
browser window. I test the project after publish and of course
there are scroll bars as in this mode all of the browser attributes
    are in place.
I then test the file through the LMS (the LMS fires the HTML
file in a window of fixed size (I designate the size in the LMS
settings) that has no attributes. There should be no scroll bars or
navigation. All works as planned except on the right verticle side
of the browser window a scroll bar (with no scroll tab) appears.
The content should not need to scroll, and indeed it does
fit, no content is hidden but there is this usless bar on the
verticle left side. I have tried using CSS overflow:none and
overflow:auto to not display the bar, but it still displays
    non-the-less.
Has anyone had any problems of this sort? If so, what was the
    solution?
    Thank you,
    TPK

    Final Synopsis,
    The conditions:
Our company recently upgraded from the Flash 8 to the Flash 9
plug-in. Our current version of Internet Explorer 6 is version
6.0.2900.2180. Our operating system is XP (service pack 2). My
company uses Adobe Captivate 2 to create internal training
    materials that are SCORM compliant.
    The problem:
Recently I noticed an odd behavior from lesson materials
created using Captivate 2. While creating training materials I
noticed there appeared to be an “empty” vertical
scrollbar on the right side of the HTML page (web published lesson)
that was generated from Captivate 2. I have been using Captivate 2
for several months (with the Flash 8 plug-in) and did not encounter
    this “artifact” before this time.
To remove the artifact I tried to “publish” the
.cp file as Flash 6, Flash 7, and Flash 8 compatible files. In each
case the phantom scrollbar was visible where no scrolling should be
needed. In addition, I re-sized the physical dimensions of the
project and altered settings in our LMS to allow for a generous
window size and a small project size. The artifact persisted. I
also tried changing the DOCTYPE attribute for the HTML page. Again,
the artifact persisted. I re-created the project using Captivate
(version 1), and again the artifact persisted.
Finally, I inserted an (invalid) <BODY> tag attribute,
‘scroll=”auto”’ so that the body tag looked
    like this:
    <body scroll="auto" bgcolor="#F1F4F5"
    onunload="Finish();">
This appeared to work (even though this appears to be an
invalid markup tag) and still allowed the page to show scrollbars
    if needed.
I asked the IS department to roll back the Flash Plug-in to
version 8, and again published a .cp project (without the above
    mentioned solution). The problem disappeared.
The problem appeared to be with the Flash 9 plug-in and/or
how it was implemented in Internet Explorer 6.
I have tested the file with these browsers:
    OS Browser Plug-in Scrollbar Present
    XP (sp2)Internet Explorer 6 Flash 9 Yes
    XP (sp2)Internet Explorer 6 Flash 8 No
    XP (sp2)Internet Explorer 7 Flash 9 Yes
    XP (sp2)FireFox Flash 9 No
    Mac OSXSafari Flash 9 No
    Mac OSXFireFox Flash 9 No
I submitted a report to Adobe Support since this appears to
    be a bug.

  • Unwanted one-finger scrolling in 10.4.11

As I use a mouse or trackpad to move the cursor, the entire application window scrolls in the opposite direction. Even the menu bar scrolls up out of sight. It happens in all applications. Two-finger vertical scrolling works normally, but it won't scroll horizontally. What's happening?

Problem solved -- I had inadvertently entered the zoom mode. Got out of it, scrolling returned to normal.

  • Voice Over Help-How do I stop unwanted scrolling?

Okay so I've just discovered the voice over feature a few days ago and I've already learned the controls and have been using it for reading fanfiction on Safari because I'm too lazy to read it myself. My problem is that everytime I lock my screen or my battery runs low and it gives me a warning, **** even if I go to another tab or try to have a word defined for me, after I'm done the screen will annoyingly scroll to the top of the **** page! Leaving me to do that annoying three finger scroll thing to get all the way back to where I was. I've checked my setting to see if there was a way to make it stop but I couldn't find anything. I already searched it on the internet but most-**** if not all of the questions regarding the voice over is how to turn it off.
So can somebody please tell me there is a way to make it stop scrolling to top of the screen everytime I divert from the page I was originally on? I fear that there isn't and I'm going to but stuck with this annoying feature forever. Seriously why would the programmers program for that to happen? It has no usefulness that I can think of, if I wanted to scroll to the top of the page I would do so by using the two finger flick up.

Well that's good enough for me, I'm not as agitated as I was before about it. I actually found a way to stop it from scrolling up by quickly tapping the screen before it's to late. It's worked for everything except when I go to a new page and come back. I assume voice over was meant for a blind person and not a lazy person like me.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Jumpy iMac!  With no input from me of any-kind, my iMac scrolls a-little bit.  My iMac scrolls _both_ up to-down or side to-side.
Do you have _any_ idea of anything Simple that I could do, such as Clearing PRAM?  On the other hand, my iMac has _always_ acted this way.
Maybe my iMac scrolls crazily because I'm hard-wired to the Internet?
