Search Help(F4 Help)  Advanced Input Help OVS

Hi all,
I need to understand how it works the OVS, regarding when the RFC for the value help is called.
In the DoInit() of the view we got
IWDAttributeInfo[] ovsStartUpAttributes =
wdContext.nodeFlightInput()
.getNodeInfo()
.getAttribute("airlineid")
IWDOVSContextNotificationListener listener =
wdThis.wdGetFilghtDetailsCompController().getOVSListener();
if (listener != null) {
WDValueServices.addOVSExtension(
"Flight Details",
ovsStartUpAttributes,
wdThis.wdGetFilghtDetailsCompController().getOVSInputNode(),
wdThis
.wdGetFilghtDetailsCompController()
.getOVSOutputNode(),
listener);
This loads all the values for the OVS right?
So my question is, Why we need to implement (and also when we actually call) the methods of the component controller:
applyResult, onQuery & applyInputValues.
I need to know because I am developing a View with several OVS and I need to define how many RFC I need, because I got two options:
A) 1 RFC containing: 1 node with the user selected values, N nodes for the N OVS with all the possible values.
B) 2 RFC, the first one only got the user selected values and the second RFC will bring me only the possible values for one OVS and this will be called only when the user hits F4 on the input.
Please help me to understand how many RFC do I really need in order to do efficient programming.
Regards,
Orlando Covault.

Hi Ayyapparaj,
After the helpful reading I realize that I need 2 RFC, one for the User selected values, and another that will be the one that use the OVS when the user hit F4.
I having some troubles to understand the context nodes and attributes, perhaps you have implemented the example about the Flight Selection... Can you send me the WD project to [email protected]

Orlando Covault

    what and how to use SVS, EVS, and OVS, Value Help and Search Help  in abap webdynpro...Can anyone please give example link or document...As i am able to get on ovs but unable to get rest of other

    SVS and EVS are Web Dynpro Java specific types of value help.  They do not exist in Web Dynpro ABAP.  In Web Dynpro ABAP we have Data Dictionary based Search Help, OVS, and Freely Programmed Value Help.  In WDA 7.02 we have the slight variant on DDic Search Help called Suggest Values.  It doesn't change the development model, just the runtime user experience.
    You can read more about each of the types of WDA based value help in the online help:

  • Extra fields in search help window in Record working time EHP5

    Hi Experts,
    Can you please let me know how to add additional fields/select options in search help window for Record Working Time ?
    My system is EHP5 NW 7.02
    I have added the custom search help for the respective filed in table " TCATS_SHLP_ITS".
    I can see this table is having entry for only 4 selection options and 6 value fields for search help display.
    But in my custom search help programme is having 8 select options(for advance search) and 10 display fields on the search window. It's working from CAT2 transaction but when I am running through webdynpro timesheet, I can only get 4 select options and 6 value fields.
    Please let me know how to make the other fields available.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sonia

    Hi Siddharth,
    Thanks for your response. In that modify possible entries screen (Details view) I can see the search help is only having 4 select options and 6 display fields.
    So as per my understanding max 6 display fields/4 select options can only be displayed on search window.
    My requirement is to display more fields on search help OVS window.
    Can you please suggest.
    Thanks ,

  • How to implement SEARCH HELP for input field in WDA

    Hi All,
    I am doing a tool for my team. in this tool there are 4 input fields to show different processes. I implemented the 4 input fields and also bind the respective tables to these fields successfully. Actually I want to filter the data between 2 fields . Means the data in the 2nd input field should be based on the 1st input field. Means when I'll select for example 'CHI' (code for CHINA) in the 1st input field the 2nd field meant for country name should show all country name with value 'CHINA'. But the problem is that all values related to each field are in different table with no foreign key relationship and also some combinations are in single table..
    I have tried the import and export parameter method for search help but no luck till now.
    Can anyone please suggest me how to implement this scenario..
    Thanks in advance...
    sekhar

    Hi sekhar,
    Your Requirement can be implemented by OVS(Object Value selector) This is the custom search help .So that you can define on what basis the value has to be fetched.
    Look at the below link
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/WDABAP/ABAPWDObjectValueSelector(OVS)
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/606288d6-04c6-2c10-b5ae-a240304c88ea?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
    You need to use the component WDR_OVS.
    It has 3 phases
    In phase 1
         You will fetch the value from input field to F4 help dialog box.
    In phase 2
         You will generate the search results , in this phase look for the input value given in field 2 and accordingly generate search result for the field 3.
    In phase 3
         The selected value will be returned to the original screen.

  • With input disabled field search help is not working.

    Hi Web dynpro abap Gurus
    Please help me on below requirement.
    If i make a input field disable then the attach search help is not working. Is there is any way by which
    I can make input field disabled and search help will also work for this field.
    I really need help on this, Please help me.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi
    I dont think that a field can be disabled and allows to choose data using f4 simultaneously. you can enable the field and allow the user to select whatever he/she wants.
    Then in any action like on press of save or submit button which the user will trigger after entering the values, get the value entered by the user in that perticular field and fire a query on the table/view, which you have used as selection method of your search help, it help is coming from data element then look for check table in domain. if sy-subrc comes 0 than go ahead else give error that value selected is modified.
    Thanks

  • Search help for input fields in a screen

    can i create a single search for all these fields and use that for all the I/O fields ?
    elementary search help or collective search help?
    thanks & regards in advance,
    vsnl.

    Hi,
    Input Help on the Screen
    Within the Screen Painter, you can define two types of input help:
    1. The FIELD statement with one of the additions VALUES or SELECT.
    2. Linking a search help directly to a screen field.
    If you link a search help directly to a screen field, it overrides the additions of the FIELD
    statement. However, the input check [Page 581] functions of the FIELD statement remain
    unaffected.
    Input Help in Flow Logic
    The following input help methods are obsolete and should not be used. They are still supported
    for compatibility reasons.
    In the screen flow logic, you can specify a value list for a screen field <f> as follows:
    FIELD <f> VALUES (<val1>, <val2>,...).
    The value list contains a series of single values <vali>. The NOT and BETWEEN additions for the
    input check [Page 581] are not appropriate for input help.
    You can also create a value list by accessing a database table as follows:
    FIELD <f> SELECT *
    FROM <dbtab>
    WHERE <k1> = <f1> AND <k2> = <f2> AND...
    In the WHERE condition, the fields of the primary key <ki> of the database table <dbtab> are
    checked against the screen fields <fi>. The WHENEVER addition, used with input checks [Page
    581], is not necessary for input help.
    If you have used a ABAP Dictionary reference for field <f>, the selection and the hit list formatting
    may be affected by any check table attached to the field.
    Attaching a Search Help
    Search helps from the ABAP Dictionary can be attached to a screen field [Ext.]. To do this, enter
    the name of the search help in the corresponding field in the attributes of the screen field in the
    Screen Painter. This assigns the first parameter of the search help to the screen field. It is only
    possible to place a value from the hit list onto the screen.
    Input help on a screen.
    REPORT DEMO_DYNPRO_F4_HELP_DYNPRO MESSAGE-ID AT.
    DATA: CARRIER(3) TYPE C,
    CONNECTION(4) TYPE C.
    CALL SCREEN 100.
    MODULE CANCEL INPUT.
    LEAVE PROGRAM.
    ENDMODULE.
    The next screen (statically defined) for screen 100 is itself. It has the following layout:
    602 April 2001
    Cancel
    Airline
    Flight number
    Screen field with search help
    Input help in the flow logic
    The input fields have been adopted from the program fields CARRIER and
    CONNECTION. The function code of the pushbutton is CANCEL, with function type
    E. The search help DEMO_F4_DE with the search help parameter CARRID is
    assigned to the screen field CARRIER. The search help uses the database table
    SCARR.
    The screen flow logic is as follows:
    PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
    MODULE CANCEL AT EXIT-COMMAND.
    FIELD CARRIER VALUES ('AA', 'LH').
    FIELD CONNECTION SELECT *
    FROM SPFLI
    WHERE CARRID = CARRIER
    AND CONNID = CONNECTION.
    When the user chooses the input help for the individual fields, the following input
    help is displayed:
      For the Airline field, the search help displays the names of the airlines and places the airline
    code in the input field for the chosen line. If the airline code is not one of those listed in the
    VALUES list of the screen flow logic, the input check triggers an error message in the PAI
    event. So the search help overrides the VALUES addition for the input help, but not for the
    input checks. This is therefore not an appropriate place to use the VALUE addition.
      For the Flight number field, the flow logic displays the selected entries from the database
    table SPFLI and places the selected line in the input field.

    Hi Ebru,
    Yes, it is possible using OVS, freely programmed and dictionary help.
    For OVS, refer this blog: /people/shruti.rathour/blog/2008/05/05/ovs-help-in-web-dynpro-abap
    For Dictionary Search Help, refer http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/47/9f724642314aabe10000000a42189b/frameset.htm

    Hi friends, I have a prblem with OVS component layout
    can some tell me create another  COPY button just under the search button on OVS.
    Basically in my product search.. there is already an OVS component created.. in the Z component layout.. jus the result table is been designed. I dnt see any other UI elements availble in that layout. (like input field to accept vaules on OVS), .. so i was wondering how to create a new button.
    this was developed by others;s so .. i m fighting with this and not able to get anything from sdn aswell.. pls help me.
    And also when they enter values in input fields.. instead of clicking search.. they wanted to hit ENTER key on keyboard... and result shoud display.. how to achieve this..
    sorry im very sorry but pls take out some time and help me out.
    I want one more button COPY on OVS search help. just under the SEARCH button... and also the search shud start once i hit ENTER key on keyboard.
    pls help on this.
    Niraja

    Hi Niraja,
    As how discussed in the email we can get this additional push button as how desired by enhancing the standard component WDR_OVS. Just click on the "Enhance" (spiral kind of button) button present in the application toolbar & create an Enhancement Implementation for the component. Now within this standard component you have the corresponding layout present in the SEARCH view. So go to this view & make the necessary changes. From now on what all components which declare a component usage of the WDR_OVS would be getting this newly modified UI & functionality.

  • How to set column names in OVS search help of ALV EDIT

    Hi All,
    I have a OVS search help for my ALV EDIT column.This OVS will have two columns,I need to give the names(name1 , name2)  to the columns.
    I am writing the below codo in phase 0.
          ls_text-name = 'Column1'.
          ls_text-value = 'name1'.
          INSERT ls_text INTO TABLE lt_column_texts.
          ls_text-name = 'Column2'.
          ls_text-value = 'name2'.
          INSERT ls_text INTO TABLE lt_column_texts.

            value = <ls_selection>-Column1 ).
          endif.
    But,the column names are not getting set.Please provide your inputs.
    Regards,
    Salma

    hi,
    About your requirement, i don't know why you need to code in "Phase 3" of OVS.
    "Phase 3" is used for transporting your selected value to Your ALV.
    I think, the reason why you loose the result table including your customized column title, is that you loose the "Phase 2".
    Generally, in the past i used OVS as the following code simply.Just one example:
    * declare data structures for the fields to be displayed and
    * for the table columns of the selection list, if necessary
      types:
        begin of lty_stru_input,
    *   add fields for the display of your search input here
          carrid type string,
          connid type string,
        end of lty_stru_input.
      types:
        begin of lty_stru_list,
    *   add fields for the selection list here
          carrid type string,
          connid type string,
          text   type string,
        end of lty_stru_list.
      data: ls_search_input  type lty_stru_input,
            lt_select_list   type standard table of lty_stru_list,
            ls_text          type wdr_name_value,
            lt_label_texts   type wdr_name_value_list,
            lt_column_texts  type wdr_name_value_list,
      case ovs_callback_object->phase_indicator.
        when if_wd_ovs=>co_phase_0.  "configuration phase, may be omitted
    *   in this phase you have the possibility to define the texts,
    *   if you do not want to use the defaults (DDIC-texts)
          ls_text-name = 'CARRID'.  "must match a field name of search
          ls_text-value = 'Search Field-Carrid'.
          insert ls_text into table lt_label_texts.
          ls_text-name = 'CONNID'.  "must match a field name of search
          ls_text-value = 'Search Field-Connid'.
          insert ls_text into table lt_label_texts.
          ls_text-name = 'CARRID'.  "must match a field in list structure
          ls_text-value = 'Result-Carrid'.
          insert ls_text into table lt_column_texts.
          ls_text-name = 'CONNID'.  "must match a field in list structure
          ls_text-value = 'Result-Connid'.

                    table_header = lv_table_header
                    col_count    = 3
                    row_count    = 8 ).
    when if_wd_ovs=>co_phase_2.
    *   If phase 1 is implemented, use the field input for the
    *   selection of the table.
    *   If phase 1 is omitted, use values from your own context.
          if ovs_callback_object->query_parameters is not bound.

          endif.
          assign ovs_callback_object->query_parameters->*

                                 AND CONNID LIKE lw_connid

    how to achieve this ?

    Using the below ways you can assign search help to a field.
    1) [OVS Search Help|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Snippets/OVSsearchhelp]
    2) [Freely Programmed Search Help|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/WDABAP/Freelyprogrammedinput+help]

  • Search Help With Input Parameter in WebDynpro ABAP

    Hello all,
    I have been facing a problem regarding a search help I wanted to attach to an input field on my UI. The search help expects an import parameter and offers four output parameters. What I did was to create a context node based on a ddic structure. The structure has one attribute for each of the five parameters. I defined the search help for all context attributes except the importing one where I deactivated the search help. The search help is available on one of the input fields on the view and bound to one of the attributes in the context. The other context attributes are not bound to anything. The names as well as the data types are the same in the search help as well as in the ddic structure, bound to the context node.
    During WDDOINIT, I am setting the "import" context attribute. The problem is that the table with the search help parameters is empty when the search help exit is entered. Do you have any idea what I have to do in order to provide the import value to the search help?
    Thanks in advance and best regards
    Simeon

    Hi,
    By context node, do u mean that u made a drop down with values in ddic structure ,
    rather than that u can use FM 'VRM_SET_VALUES' this would be simpler if that makes sense for ur requirement.
    pls revert if any comments on it.
    regards,
    Dinesh.

  • OVS Search Help

    Hi,
    I am using OVS search help for an input field.
    I want to know whether it is possible to use personal value list in OVS, Like one in dictionary search help.
    If yes, then how to proceed for that and also suggest any dummy program if possible.
    Regards
    Pankaj Aggarwal

    Hi Pankaj,
          I think, 'personal value list' in value help is only possible for Dictionary Search Helps, but not for OVS & Freely programmed. Check out the NOTE section of the [link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/47/9ef8cc9b5e3c5ce10000000a421937/content.htm]. It says below.
    Before programming your own input helps, see whether your input helps can be depicted using an ABAP Dictionary search help. If you consistently use the search help and thus the default input helps, your Web Dynpro application is more uniform. In addition, the ABAP Dictionary search help allows you to maintain a personal values list (favorites).
    This clearly means that, PERSONAL VALUE LIST is only for dictionary helps.
    Incase if you use mix of dictionary helps & OVS helps and to make your WD application uniform, its recommended to disable PERSONAL VALUE LIST for dictionary helps.
    Hope it answers your question.
    Regards,
    Manne.

  • Input search help not working in portal correctly, works in R/3 fine?

    Hi All,
    We have created a custom iview which is based on a BSP.  One of the input fields has search help provided, which is simply a list of all employees.  When we execute the BSP from r/3 it works perfectly fine but when we execute if from portal, the search help behaves strangely.  Not all images are found and it's lost the look and feel that it had in r/3.
    If anyone can shed any light, i'd be most grateful.
    Kind regards,
    Liz.

    Is it because of the size of the bsp page? Sometimes when a bs displays in the content area the window is smaller than expected and the bsp optimizes things like dropdows etc. Can you try launching the iView in a new window and see if that helps?

  • Search help unavailable in Read-only input field since EHP4

    Dear Experts!
    I have a problem with a Portal page since the deploy of the EHP4. The page has standard input fields with Search Helps. I needed to have the input field non-modifiable so the user would have to use the search help to get the proper information.
    Prior to the EHP4 installation, I set the input field to Read Only in the WebDynpro explorer, this disabled the editing while permitting the user to use the Search Help.
    Since the installation, the search help is no longer visible or accessible on a Read Only standard inputfield.
    Do you know if there is a way to allow the search help on a read only field?
    Thanks so much for your answer,

    This was a conscious design decision on SAP's part that disabled or read-only fields should no longer fire value help.  I am aware that this situation was used in the past as you describe.  It is even still used in SE80 for the Web Dynpro ABAP wizards. However usability studies showed that this often confused end users and therefore it is no longer allowed.  The field must be input enabled to fire the attached serach help.
