Search Query Web Part thumbnail image link broken

I have 4 farms spread across the world and I want to pull news from Farm 1 (headquarters) into farm 2, 3, and 4. In SharePoint 2007 I did this with content deployment by pushing only the news site out to the other 3 farms. However, from
reading content deployment guidelines in SP13 I feel this is no longer a supported configuration.
I am trying to use the search query web part to accomplish this now. I have a search query web part that I am using to roll up articles from SharePoint at farm 1. So far it is mostly working, the articles are pulled in and I can see
them. When I click the link it takes me from the current farm (farm 2) to farm 1 to read the article. The only problem I am having is that the rollup image does not display at farm 2, 3, or 4. I believe this is happening because the image
URL at the source is getting saved as a relative URL. Even if I try to override the relative URL to the image with an absolute URL then it just forces the URL back to a relative URL because clearly SharePoint is smarter than I am and there is no reason
I should ever want an absolute URL.
I should add that to get this working, in my search settings, I had to configure an extra content source (to farm 1).
So my question is what is the best way to handle this? Is there an option in my search configurations on farm 2 to override URL's for a particular content source? Am I even headed down the right path trying to do this with the content search
web part?

I have been trying to figure out what you mean when you say I am using 'Page item' instead of 'Picture'. I don't understand what you mean.
When I set up a page that will be published I have actually been using an 'Article Page' content type for the news item I want to share on all of the farms. After creating the page there is a section at the bottom for a 'Rollup Image' I specify
the URL in this rollup image but the actual image is stored in an 'Assets' Library. I have no problem with the article page itself showing up on Farm 2, just not the image. The "Rollup Image" data type is Publishing Image - "Rollup
Image is a site column created by the Publishing feature. It is used on the Page Content Type as the image for the page shown in content roll-ups such as the Content By Search web part."
Question 1: Are you saying that I need to somehow replace that rollup image field with a custom site column field?
Question 2: If I set up a new column then do I need to worry about connecting catalogs?
In your post from December 9th it sounded like you had this working in your test environment.
Question 3: Did you have it working using a different configuration there?
Question 4: If so, did it require having a separate web application just for Assets, or were you using a custom site column there?
In Farm 2, after I connected my catalog from Farm 1, I found that a Pages library at the top level of my site collection contained some strange entries. I have files in that library called

The first CatalogItem gives me an error "Sorry, something went wrong". The rest seem to contain images from Farm 1. However, news articles still are not finding those images. I suppose that is because the 'Rollup image' link is
still pointing to a different path than that connected catalog. Anyway, those items were checked out to me and were not published. I checked them in and published those Category/CatalogItem connections hoping that would work, but
that didn't help either.
When I set up my catalog in farm 1 I only checked 'Enable this library as a catalog'. None of the other fields seemed to apply since I am not publishing to a public site (Anonymous access) and also since I am not trying to tie identifiers to catalog
items (Catalog Item URL fields). Additionally when I connected to my catalog I tried "<label for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_connectionTypeSection_fullConnection">Integrate the catalog into my site" with the setting "</label><label
for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_rewriteDecisionSection_noURLRewriteRadioButton">Make URLs point to source catalog". I also tried "</label><label for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_connectionTypeSection_manualConnection">Connect,
but do not integrate the catalog". Both of those settings sounded like they might force catalog items to look to the source (Farm 1). Neither worked. There are a lot of other settings but none of them seem to apply to my situation.
I'm not trying to configure Navigation Hierarchy, Category Pages, or Item Pages. Maybe I need to do something with "Catalog Item URL Format", but I'm not sure what settings I should try.</label>
Questions 5,6: Do you have recommendations for my catalog/catalog connections to get this working? Obviously my current configuration is not right or else it would work, but am I even close?

Content Query Web Part - Custom ItemStyle.xsl to display image with hyperlink

I don't have access to InfoPath or SharePoint Designer to edit the ItemStyle.xsl. So any solution suggested is preffered to be a manual change to ItemStyle.xsl
I use Content Query Web part (in the main site) to list all the Wikis created in the a sub-site. The idea is to link each wiki to its printable version stored elsewhere.
The wiki has custom column say "Link" that hold hyperlinks to the printable version.
I want to create a column in the content query web part that displays an image (same image for all wikis stored in the site Assets) but on clicking takes me to the printable version page.
I got the image displayed but the hyperlink takes me to the location where the image is stored and not to the printable version page.

Hyperlink column is treated a little different. The field, by default, puts the URL and then the friendly name concatenated together, but separated by a comma. So I created two variables one that pulls everythng before the comma and the other after. Then

How to configure search results web part to display results only after a query is generated from user?

Hi All,
I am crawling documents from a file server. I created a new content source and crawled the documents. All documents are crawled successfully.
Then I went to my enterprise search center site collection and created a new result source. I have added the query to use above content source.
After that, on a page I am trying to configure the search results web part to display documents using this result source. Now the problem is:
It displays all the documents that are crawled without searching for anything. I mean first it should not display any results. If a user searches for something , then according to that search it should display results.
Any idea how to do this in the web part? I am using SharePoint 2013 on premise enterprise edition. No code. Totally OOTB.

What did you use for the Query text in the result source?
I could reproduce this issue when I used Query text like: {searchTerms} Path:”http://sps2k13sp/sites/First/Shared%20Documents”
Then I changed the Query to
{?{searchTerms}
Path:"http://sps2k13sp/sites/First/Shared%20Documents"}
, then Search result web part didn’t return results without searching.
So , check your result source, and use the Query like the above(adding "{?...}").

Search Results web part - Custom Query using "Value with a parameter from URL" inconsistent

I have encountered what I think may be a bug, but I am hoping that there is something that I am missing.
Within my search site, I have created a new search results page where I want to customize the "Search Results" web part query. I can add in any number of property and keyword filters (using the "Build Your Query" dialog) without
issue... until I add a filter that uses the QueryString property (the builder dialog calls this "Value with a parameter from URL").
If I use {QueryString.MyParameterX} for filtering, it works beautifully in the query builder dialog. I see the expected results in the search results preview pane, but as soon as I apply the changes things become inconsistent.
If I close/reopen my browser and navigate to my page at http://myaddress/search/Pages/testresults.aspx?MyParameterX=test I see results. If I then refresh the page, I get a "Nothing here matches your search" message. I can then go to
the same address but change one character to an uppercase character and get results. Refreshing that same page again returns "Nothing here matches your search". I can only get search results one time per uniquely cased URL without having
to close/reopen my browser. This behavior was seen on both Firefox and IE.
Finally, I found that if I instead navigate to http://myaddress/search/testresults?MyParameterX=test, it always returns results. This, unfortunately isn't the best solution for me... but it is a solution.
Any insight that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated! I would really like to be able to depend on this working in all logical cases (especially since the search center of other sites is set using the path all the way down to /Pages).

I'm querying custom list called "Links" on my home page using Content Query Web Part. CQWP shows the links, and when you click on it, it's going to the item display view. Can this behaviour be changed to, when you click on link it open the link destination?

Content Query Web Part gives error when trying to edit

Hello there,
When I put the page in edit mode and try to edit the content query web part I get an unexpeced error. When searching the correlation ID from the error message I see this message a lot:

ConsoleUtilies.GetContextualControlMode had no currentPage so the current SPWebPartManager mode cannot be retrieved.
The error message says something about Publishing and I had an Publishing issue before the CQWB issue happened.
The thing is that the CQWB is dependent on the Publishing feature. The publishing feature when turned on (as site collection feature) creates Content types. One of these content types was removed because when I tried to create a new publishing site
I got an error about a missing content type.
I deactivated the site collection publishing feature (after deactivating it on all sites where it was activated) and then activated it again so it reacreates the content types. This was working, since now I can create Publishing sites again.
The problem is that I can not edit the CQWB anymore. But it is still showing the query in correct lay-out. Also when I add a new CQWB I have the same issue. I can add it, but not edit.
I also made a new test site collection and here everything works fine. I tried to copy the .webpart from the test to the problem-sitecollection, but the webpart is just not editable on my broken site collection.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Im assuming it has something to do with the publishing issue I had....

I disabled all publishing features on all subsites
Then I disabled the site collection publishing feature
Then I enabled the site collection publishing feature again
I enabled publishing feature on the subsites where I want to use the content query web part and also on the subsites where the query is coming from
So: Yes, the publishing feature is enabled

Search results web part error, missing tabs.

Hello,
I have a custom master page built from an html on Sharepoint Online.
I want to add a Search Results webpart on my page, but when I do it, I see that this webparts has missing options. I only have the first two, and are not even complete, I cannot swith between basic and advance query and I don't have the refinement, sorting,
test tabs..
Opening the developer tools for the popup, I see the following error.
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'add_resultRendered' of undefined on Search.configuration.js on line number 1.
The point is, that if I quit my masterpage and I put the seattle, the webparts works perfect. So I know that there is something missing on my masterpage, but I don't have a idea about what can be.
Any thoughts?

According to your description, my understanding is that the Search Result Web Part was not showing data for Anonymous Users.
The cause of this issues was due to security trimming. For resolving this issue, please do the followings:
Under the SharePoint Site go to Site Settings. Search -> Search and offline availability -> Indexing ASPX Page Content, Enable the option "Always index all Web Parts on this site"
Under Search Service Application, do a Full Crawl for the content source

Search Results Web Part, Managed Navigation and Paging

I am using managed navigation and have a search results web part that uses the Term.IdWithChildren as the query to filter the results by the selected navigation term. This works nicely until you need to us the paging. As soon as you go to the next page there are
no results.
It would appear that as soon as the URL has the #k=#s=11 added it looses the navigation term. This is a core part of the Sharepoint solution that I'm delivering and I cannot progress this any further and I'm going round in circles. I have another results
page that has the search results webpart on but doesn't use the navigation term filtering and the paging works fine.
As an alternative I was looking at writing my own search results web part, can I do this and render the sharepoint display templates somehow?
Any help would be appreciated.

i suppose you may need to check your design regarding this custom coding,
as i know, when i tried previously, i didn't take any attention on the query result, so that it appear as no result.

Adding Description or Content Preview to Search Result Web Part

Hello,
I am on Sharepoint Online 2013 working on an enterprise wiki site. I've added a search result web part and configured a query to return the results I want. The
Results Control Display Template is set to Default and the
Result type for item is set to Sharepoint Wiki.
Is there a way to
1) Customize the item display template to add in a description value, or show the first 'x' number of characters from the content?
2) Customize the hover display to show only the body content (instead of complete page), or increase the zoom level where the content area is shown larger?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Content Query Web Part - in 2010 but Catalog-Item Reuse in 2013

In SharePoint 2010 I exported this SharePoint Links List to be a WebPart that I can put for things. It's our company's "Popular Links." "WE" decide what is "Popular." We have a few that I am sharing here.
In 2010 I got this to be a web part that I can pop onto multiple sites on our site collection. Now in 2013, I'd like to use Search if possible to get this to work. I tried and it didn't come out right.

I tried the Items Matching a Tag and I set a tag to be "Popular Links" and set the tag on the items below in this graphic. I then set it to look only at these.
This is on the same page on the "home" page, publishing turned on. I don't have the "feel" of the first "list" that I did on the graphic above. It's not CSS as it is on the same page using the same master page.
Also when I click on the link it takes me to the displayform.aspx?id=1 page and I want to have the user just click the hyperlink.
Could I / should I use the Catalog-Item Reuse feature with publishing and get a new site collection setup with this? I am frustrated as I'd like to "share" information in another site, just as this "perfect" example (for me) to
show this information multiple times.

CQWB is supported for Publishing Sites or site having publishing feature turned on, on other it will not work as expected.
You can add it on the page from ribbon insert web part> from categories select Content Rollup > next pane slect Content Query.

Search navigation web part question

I try to configure search navigation and User Current Query from drop down always say target not found. I try to change to search results web part ,but it is not working. It set back to target not found.

According to your description, my understanding is that you cannot change the User Current Query from in the Search Navigation web part.
I recommend to delete all the search result web parts in the result page and then add a new search result web part, then change the User Current Query from in the Search Navigation web part.

Google search results shows no thumbnail images in Firefox as compared to IE or Chrome.

When doing a google search, I see no thumbnail images for things like youtube video's or an image that would typically come from authority site. Is there a setting in FireFox that is inhibiting this?
Compared to IE or Chrome which does shows a little image in Google search results.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Content Query Web Part Fields Documentation?

Hello community, I have a question about content query web part. I want to use it to display information from a custom large list with more than just the title and description columns that the default allows. For example, I have a list with 50k items in
it and 20 columns. I want to be able to create multiple CQWPs to display select data and select columns for the appropriate users.
I am looking for good accurate documentation to help implement this. I seem to be finding multiple methods that people are using and I am not sure what is best in terms of performance - which is ideally why I want to use the CQWP in the first place (prevent
people from loading the 50k item list over and over).
By default, the content query web part looks great for displaying links to specific documents, but I am hoping that it can be configured to essentially create a mini-list of the large list.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that this is with a custom content type and all custom fields.

Figured this out a few days ago. Found that there really wasn't any documentation that helped me tremendously or explained in a way that I could understand it completely (user error??). There was one video that I found on YouTube that helped considerably.
I took some of what he did, but found that I could accomplish what he did with less than what he showed.
Pretty sure that by now everyone knows how to do this, but anyway, here is what I did:
I just exported a content query web part (after adding a blank one to a page), edited the CommonViewFields and the ItemXslLink (pointing to a copy of the original ItemStyle.xsl). Rename the copy of the file to whatever you want and then SAVE it locally (you
will upload it later to the Web Part Gallery or directly to the page for use when complete).
Create a new template at the bottom of the copy of the ItemStyle.xsl file (similar to all of the other templates that you see throughout the page).
Then make sure that the name that you selected for the name attribute of the template tag is exactly the same as the name that you will put in single quotes in the match attribute. Again you can use the existing templates on the page as a guide.
Copy and paste some of the existing variables to your template (add them between the opening and closing template tags). For instance, I added the 'SafeLinkUrl' variable, which I copied from above, so that I could have it render when I select my template
when I configure the web part on the page.
Then you can create new fields utilizing the
<xsl:value-of>
tags. Utilize the select attribute to get the field name that you want; use the examples in the page to help guide you. You can use plain old HTML to style your content. For example, I created a table to display my results.
The CommonViewFields property from the .webpart file should have the field names that you want to add in them already (because you edited that earlier).
Add the new CQWP that you just modified to the page that you want and select the template name from the drop-down to get the template that you created. You should then see your new fields there too!
This worked for me. If anyone needs clarification on what I wrote, let me know. Anyway, I know that I am a few years too late, but whatever - hopefully this can help someone else.

Can Content Query Web Part collect data from multiple site collections?

In some cases yes, but its always been problematic due to security boundaries. In SharePoint 2013 its much better to use the Content Search Web part to aggregate content from multiple site collections.
