SEARCH: Widget that shows a PDF or XLS File

Hey,
I am looking for a widget which can show me a pdf or XLS file (Picture would be a possible work around).
Best would be to show a small kind of thumbnail and a magnifying class to look up details. So far about the wish list .
Reason is my weekly time-planner - I use a XLS sheet in adoption of Steven Covey's "7 Habits of highly effiective people" - and in order to be even more effective, I would like to make this visible

allows you to use a URL to display in a window. nice widget. I use it to check a site or two, but i have tested on local PDF files, and it works fine...

PDF is a proprietary format and Java doesn't support it by default. Are you using a 3rd party tool to create the PDF? If so, you need to review the developer docs to see how to make the document non-editable. Frankly, I don't see why you're using an Applet to view a PDF in the first place. What exactly are you trying to do. I'm confused.

That is a setting of your browser, not of the Adobe plugin.

Converting OBIEE Answers / Interactive Dashboards into .pdf or .xls files

Hi all;
I’m a freshie here as well as in Business Intelligence industry. Right now, without prior knowledge about this tool, I’m working in OBIEE answer.
Is it possible for us to convert OBIEE answer report/dashboard into .pdf or .xls files? Other tools like Cognos and Business Object have their own utilities to convert the tool’s reports into those formats. I believe OBIEE also have that essential, but untill now, i couldn’t find it.

You can download individual reports on Dashboard:

Checking PDF/DOC/XLS files for passwords

Folks
Wondering if anyone can shed any light on how to check PDF/DOC/XLS files passwords?
I'm not trying to crack the password, I'm writing a program where people are uploading files, but I don't want people submitting files that require passwords to open them.

The attachment contains both pdf and xls files.

I don't get it. So let me try to explain again what you are describing:
- You open a mail in Gmail (I guess Gmail in the browser, right?)
- This email has an attachment (a excel sheet, right?)
- You try to open the file, which immediately starts downloading the file to your Mac (usually the file gets downloaded into the Downloads folder)
What I don't get, where do you receive a message regarding icloud.com?

Creating a widget that shows youtube movies

Hi All,
I'm trieing to create a captivate widget, usein widgetfactory, that can play youtube content in my project. So far I've succeeded in creating an AS3 script that loads a youtube move and places it on the stage. Here's a part of the code i use in stagemode:

my idea was to add r as a movieclip to the stage and add p, the youtube player, to it as a child. When i run this as a standalone swf it works. But when i try to load the youtube movie into a widget nothing shows up. Anyone any ideas? Or someone who can point me to a site where i can find more information about creating widgets using widgetfactory (Allready looked at CPGURU an WidgetKing).

Xcode is not really meant for building widgets. Widgets are built primarily with html, css and javascript. You can code them by hand or you can get a copy of the recently released "Dashcode" beta.
Dashcode is a development tool specifically for building widgets. It is supposed to be released along with Leopard but Apple recently released a beta that's supposed to run in Tiger (I haven't tried it yet). If you've signed up for a free online developer account at Apple Developer Connection you can logon and download the beta.

PS - by the way, if you go to Apple Developer Connection and do a search for "widget" you'll get some hits on Dashboard tutorials and programming guides (these are not geared toward "Dashcode" and should be useful even if you're handcoding your widget)

is there a widget that can show me easily the list of things that comes up when you type pmset -g in to the terrminal to see power management, the sms sensitivity, and the rest of what it displays? ive searched but its tough to find one.

Evidence is simply wrong, and new media have to say something, don't they? There are almost 10,000 posts about battery problems, and a few dozen about WiFi. Which is a real problem? WiFi problems have occurred sporadically for 4 years; there's nothing special about 5.0.1. If you focus on the version you will never solve the problem, and waiting for the next version won't solve it either. If you want it to work you will have to follow some basic troubleshooting. Most WiFi problems fall into 2 buckets:
Actual WiFi chip failure; more common than you think
Settings curruption as a result of the upgrade process, having nothing to do with the specific versions involved
The 2nd can usually be fixed by Reset Network Settings or Reset All Settings. Frequently also by "forgetting" the network, rebooting, then reconnecting.

Search Query that shows articles based on the current logged in users Office location

I've set up a "news" channel that shows articles targeted to the current user. Basicly this on done by queryting the property of the custom "Office Location" termset.
My setup is something like the following in my term store:
The setup works perfect now. countries are not taggable so at the moment the user needs to choose City 1.. City 2 etc. for their articles which works fine since sometimes articles are also only targeted to cities and not countries.
Anyways now we have got 2 users in City 4. Here it makes no sense that articles should be targeted City 3 and City 4 in order to show articles to entire Country 2. Basicle what I want here is that if an article is targeted with City 3 it should also be shown
to City 4 users.
How is this archived best? I have tried to make the Countries available for tagging as well, however it not show anything since the user property of course still is City 3 or City 4.

You can not get hold of the parent in your scenario. You want the parent of the tagged term in the user profile, and there is no built-in mechanism in search to get this. So as I mentioned you have to use JSOM to get the parent term, and then use that in
your owstaxIdOfficex0020Location:term query.
owstaxIdOfficex0020Location:{User.SPS-Location.IDWithChildren}
would be a valid query, except it won't help you much :)

Software/widgets that show hardware usage

On Windows Vista, there is a widget on the desktop that shows (visually) my PC’s CPU & RAM usage. Also, Vista will show me (visually) how much hard drive space has been used up in a pie chart. Both of these are very useful to me as they allow me to monitor vital aspects of my PC’s hardware.
Is there something similar (free) for the Mac? If so, where can I find it or download?

If you want to monitor critical information then look into Temperature Monitor as well.
One feature Vista has that OS X lacks is ability to closely monitor APC UPS - you don't want to use PowerChute in OS X, but Vista version is loaded with details, and you don't generally want to be w/o UPS adequate (1300VA+).

Why is that saving as PDF increase the file sizes?

I've been notice that when I save a file as PDF, in CS5 it increase the file size to double that before.
Even saving it with the same setting than before.
For example, most of my Business Card file that I sent to print, use to be 1.5 or so megabytes
Now if I open the same file, --or a new file-- and save it, it will increase it to double that size
Any ideas?

Ok, I've been using Photoshop since version 6 or so (around year 2000)
Just upgrade to CS5
Before, for example, I'll make a file in PS, merge the layers, open a new file whit the same dimensions, resolution etc,
and save this file as PDF to send to printers.
Tthe file(s) that I have or were create them in CS4, than saved as PDFs have a file sizes of 1 to 2 megabytes as average.
The NEW files (in the same sequence) that I create now, have an average of 3 Mbytes
Even do, I save them with the same --I believe-- setting in PDF
There's may be a new feature in PDF save dialogue box that I'm not getting?
or, it just more information that it is put into?

How do I get rid of small Squares/boxes that show in pdf document in Reader X

I received a document as an attachment to an e-mail. It has a tiff extension, but shows on the e-mail as a pdf. It looks fine when I view it on my browser. When I download it and open, It opens in adobe reader and has small squares in the background. I am using the free version of adobe reader X.
