Searching existing VIs for content

Hi,
I'm used to text-based programming languages. There, if I have a problem that I know I've solved in the past and want to recal how I did it, I can run grep (or similar) in a root directory and quickly find the required files. Usually the hits come from the comments I've written. Now that I'm learning LabVIEW I'm finding this isn't so easy. I've got a bunch of directories and a bunch of VIs, with only their file names to guide me. How do I go about doing something analogous to what I'm used to with text-based languages?

That's why you work with projects. Just like other text based languages, you don't usually open the text files one at a time you open the project and then drill into the files you want. In the same way if you work with a project in LabVIEW you have all VIs in memory and can perform a string search (CTRL + F) and find all the comments you left on your code.
A new thing in 2013 is bookmarks which can be found using the # symbol in a comment. This again works best with a project because all the files are already in memory.
If you insist on not using a project you can still open a VI reference and do the search your self, finding all the places a comment contains the string you left, or in the VI documentation. Also the VI Documentation is actually stored in plain text within the VI file so searching can be done with conventional search methods if you force it to treat the VI file like text, or write your own searching method.

Use ini_set() to change the include_path configuration. The
actual code
you need to use depends on the operating system used by your
server,
plus the file hierarchy.

My iPhoto library has suddenly disappeared from my computer. When i click on iPhoto it tells me to choose my library or create a new one. However no library option appears. I have searched the computer for the library but it does not seem to exist

In terms of searching i have searched for photos on my finder. However, none of the photos that appear are from my iPhoto Library.

Search for any file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the name. If you added at least one image to your library, the library should contain a file with this name, see OldToad's post: Re: Since I updated to iPhoto 9.5.1, my library is not listed or available. Endpoint Protection error: The source folder for content does not exist.

I have a single SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 server running on Windows Server 2012.
I have been using this for a little more than a month for Endpoint Protection and Windows Updates.
I just recently started seeing that my Endpoint Deployment Package has Failed. I click on "Content Status" and select the Endpoint package (which again shows Failed). I click on "View Status" and I get this
message in the "Error" tab:
The source folder for content does not exist.
The Asset Details point to the exact location that does not exist:
The source directory "\\<server>\updates\endpoint\6bd81fde-3a3f-4aa9-bf70-ba007891ca68" for package "<package>" does not exist.
I didn't change anything related to this, and that directory path (\\server\updates\endpoint) is
shared and is populated with a lot of other folders.
Is this possibly just a bad update file? Should I manually create that sub-folder that it says is missing?

Search for content within a PDF

Is it possible to search for content within a PDF across a mapped drive?

Yes. Use Edit>Advanced search. Choose All PDF Documents in and choose the mapped drive.
They have to be searchable PDF's of course...

SAP Forums (Jive) and TREX 7.1 search for content in attachements

Hi
I'm trying to find out if and how its possible to set TREX 7.1 up to index content and attachments in Jive forums. I've found a statement saying that portal search dosent work for Forums (EP-COL-APP-FOR).
Does anybody know if this can be done and then how ?
Of course I need a search UI for Forums if the standard one dosent work..
We are talking EP7.0 with Forums 7.00 sp 18.

you can configure TREX to index the forum repository manager and by that search forums, categories, threads and messages.

Click the Bookmarks icon left side of the Safari window then select a Bookmark folder.
You should see a search field with a magnifying glass icon top right.

Custom Display template for Content Search webpart

Hi,
I am trying to customize the out of the box "slideshow" display template for content search webpart which renders Images.
By default, the slideshow display template has a fixed the image size which is very small. Is it possible to increase the dimensions of the container or control template to show a much larger image size?
Can anyone please help on how to do this?

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to increase the dimensions of the container or control template to show a much larger image size in the Content Search web part.
I recommend to create a custom Display Template (control and Item display templates) and use JQuery Slider plugin to achieve this goal.

Searching VIs for particular object combinations

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this but is there any way to search VIs for particular pairs or combinations of objects? For example, say I want to find every place a certain global variable gets assigned a constant of 21. As it now I can only search for instances of that global but if it appears in several hundred locations then it's not going to be easy to identify all the places where it gets set to some number of interest.

I haven't seen much so far that wouldn't be fairly trivial to re-implement (although I/O updating and proper interaction with the UI might be challenging).
Sorry, I've gone way off-topic in my own thread. I guess I had to blow off some steam.
Anyway, unfortunately searching for specific numbers like "21" doesn't help in this case. If I manage to accomplish anything using LV Scripting I'll be sure to update this thread.
I just want to applaud you for the most unbiased post that I have ever read from a text programmer who has come across a LabVIEW application like this (and to a certain extent we feel your pain. Almost everyone on these forums has come across this kind of thing before, and it's not easy for any of us to deal with, new or experienced). I understand the demands of the job and getting things done quickly, but I also encourage you to put some time into learning the "right way" and at that point, maybe you can convince your boss to let you refactor. I know that's not always the easiest thing to do, but I also think you'll be glad you did it.

Search MS Word for Exact Match

I've got a script that opens an MS Word document, then searches through a directory for each image file (.jpg), then does a find and replace using the filename as the search string, and inserts the image in place of the text it finds. My problem is that
it's not doing an exact match. This means for example that if it looks for image1.jpg and that text exists in the word document inserts the image in it's place (the text being a placeholder). But if mimimage1.jpg was in place before it then it would insert
the .jpg there - not doing an exact match.

At the moment it doesn't do an exact match but I've tried using:
$MatchWholeWord = $True
$MatchCase = $False
and then
$application.Selection.Find.Execute($MatchWholeWord, $MatchCase)
But that stopped it from finding any matches. Can anyone help?

Search multiple folders for files with same name and create single file

I have a project where I need to search multiple folders for a file name and when found append data from each file to a single input file.
Example
root folder to start search
\\servera\sales
\\servera\it\salesa\cmmstr.txt
\\servera\it\salesb\cmmstr.txt
\\servera\it\salesc\cmmstr.txt
I need to create a a single cmmstr.txt on the root folder. I would like it to be able to run this with parms to pass in folders to search and file names to search and single file name to create. I'm going to have a least 10 differnt files to
search for and create output file for. The folders to search
will somewhat be static.

I tested this out on my own seat and I think it should work for you. I wrote it as a function, all you have to do is pass the root folders you want to search and the file your looking for. The function will then search that directory and all sub directories
for that file name. you will also have to provide it a file to append to, if the file dosen't exists the function will create it. If you run into an issues let me know and the links Mike

How do I search a spreadsheet for a list of URL's | then search those URL's for keywords | save the output? (Oh yeah..., and schedule it)

Fist, I should mention I am not a programmer but am eagerly learning powershell!
I am looking for an automated solution to accomplish what I am currently doing manually. I need a script that would combine the following:
Reach out to a list of websites (probably a loop of some sort since the list will come out of a spreadsheet which could contain 1 or 100 different sites)
Search each page for a specific word or words (not contained in the spreadsheet though that may make it more scalable)
Save the URL of the site(s) that contained the keywords to one text file (versus the multiple .html files I am creating today)
Have the output contain which words it found on which site.
If not overly complicated, I would like to schedule this to recur once a week.
A working script would be ideal, but even the resources that show me how to incorporate each element would suffice.
I have had success pulling down the full content of the listed pages and saving them to a directory, which requires manual intervention.
So far this works, but it's not scalable:

One Search service application for multiple web applications in a single server

We are planning to host 17 Web applications in a single Server. Do I need to create search service application for each web application or I need to create one Search service application , create a Content source for each web
application and create a Result source for filtering. Which is the best approach. And which approach takes more RAM memory.
In my application I am using Search web part, "Recently Changed Items", "Popular Items" web parts. when I created only one one Search Service application for all web applications and using Result sources ,
I am not getting the results. What could be the problem.

One SSA is ok, but you should think about access rights. If the access is clear cut between all the web apps you should be ok with one SSA. Multiple result sources limiting on content source also works, but could easily be bypassed.
Multiple SSA's will eat up RAM/CPU like a mother :)
As for popular etc.. it could be due to how those sources are set up, but haven't investigated or tested this much.

Help me to search on calendar for more than one year

I desparately need to be able to search on calendar for more than one year., which was taken away on the new operating system. I have kept personal memories of my husband on there in the notes sections on days when we did things. ( I have also kept all kinds of personal notes, like doctor records or conversations, in the notes of events/dates.) it is a huge loss for me not to be able to search my calendar for more than one year. Is there any way I can do this?

How do I search and replace for invisibles in Pages 5.5.2?

Three related problems all involving search and replace for invisibles.
1. A block of text where all double returns need to become single returns.
2. A block of text where all returns need to be replaced with a single word space.
3. A block of text where all double word spaces to be replaced with a single word space.
Pages 09 could do all three this handily. How can these be done in Pages 5.5.2?

Here are screenshot of my attempts to make reducing double returns to one. First up selection of a double return:
Copy to the clipboard. Do a Command-F. Here's the resulting dialogue:
I paste in the contents of the clipboard:
Note the Search field no longer has an empty slot selected. Something is clearly in there, but no instance of whatever is has been found. Nevertheless, I proceed to set up the Replace field by selecting a single return:
Copy that to the clipboard and paste into the Replace field:
Nothing to search for and therefore nothing to replace. Am now wondering what that little scoop to the right of the eyeglass icon might indicate. Clicking on it reveals this:
Definitely not "a solution that just works."
