Secure Worksheet Download

Hi,
I have been asked if it is possible to export a Discoverer Worksheet from 'Viewer' to a secure location? I.e. force the user to download to a specific network drive and folder - and not allow them to save onto their hard drive.
Failing that, to only allow sending by email to a specific email account.
Regards
Mark

Hi Mark
You cannot do the former but you can enfore the latter. However, there is only one place where the default email address can be set so if you do this then ALL emails out of Discoverer will come from the same email address.
If this is something you want to do let me know and I will look up the instructions.
Best wishes
Michael

  • Cannot open network preferences, security, or downloads; blue screen appears

I have recently discovered that I cannot open my network preferences, security, or downloads folder. I do not know what else I am unable to open. For these three, I click upon them and instantly a blue screen appears, quickly followed by my desktop with all programs (except Finder) shut down, as if I was just logging on. The MacBook Pro is not yet a year old. I have recently downloaded the Amazon Cloud and was wondering if this could be causing the spastic behavior. My boyfriend seems to think that it is a corrupt file. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thank you.

By the way, repairing permissions is a complete waste of time. All it does is spew bogus error messages. It never fixes anything unless you have a specific indication of a permission problem, which is rare.
The only truths in your statement is the bolded sentence.  Everything else is false.

  • Securing file download with standard web security and ssl

    Hi,
I want to put some files for download in my webapp. At the same time, I want to protect these files using standard servlet security and ssl. So I added <security-constraint> in my web.xml and configured tomcat to allow SSL connection. Now I got the files protected as I expected. When I try to access the file directly from browser, tomcat shows me the login page. However, after correct login, I.E. pops up an error saying something like "Internet Explorer cannot download XXX from XXX. The file could not be written to the cache.". The log file showed the following exception:

I've tried separating concerns, for example protect files but not require SSL, and enable SSL but do not protect files. Both works respectively but not together. I also tried using a download4j's DownloadServlet. Still doesn't work.
Have any of you encouter the same situation? If so, could you enlight me what I did wrong? It maybe just a simple SSL configuration or something. Thanks in advance!
    Jack

    My environment setup is:
    JDK 1.5.01
    Tomcat 5.5.7
For downloading files, I just use plain old <a href> method. I simply right-click the link and choose "save target as...".
    Thanks,

  • Can't open iTunes, Mail, Safari, and others since Security Update download

I see that this subject has come up in other posts - here's my situation -
I have a four year old Powerbook G4, running on 10.4.11. I downloaded (using Firefox as my browser) Java for OS X 10.4 Release 5, iTunes 7.6.2, and Security Update 2008-02 (Power PC). Since that time, I can no longer open iTunes, Mail, Safari, iChat, Yahoo and MSN Messenger. Software update will not open from the Apple menu, but I can open and run it from the System Preferences panel.
I tried to re-download Safari and iTunes, but the installer won't open the files - just says that the installer closed unexpectedly and to send the info to Apple.
I have used Disk Utility to repair permissions on the HD (my HD is not the original HD, but a new one installed two months ago), and the device, without any success.
Any ideas in where to go from here?

Should I try doing that before I try the Archive and Install?
Running DU from the HD will not allow you to repair the HD, but it will allow you to Verify the HD to tell if you need to boot from the Install disk to actually Repair it.
Should you need/want to do it from the Install Disk...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Also, if I try Archive and Install, will it delete all of my personal files, too, or will these be carried over?
If you use A&I and choose the Preserve Users & Settings, it should just replace the OS' files and leave all yours intact. About the only way it could fail is Power Failure during it, (make sure Laptops have AC power during A&I or Repairs, , updates, etc.), Bad Disk/Directory info to start with, or flaky RAM or some such odd thing.

  • Securing file download links

As per the File upload/download How-to at http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14377/up_dn_files.htm#sthref153
downloading a file involves writing a stored procedure and invoking it directly using the DAD and mod_plsql. For example, /pls/htmldb/owner.procedure?p_file_id=1234
This link bypasses the Apex show engine so even if I have all the security in the world in Apex using authentication schemes, authorization schemes, etc, a authenticated user in Apex can just right click on the Download link, shoot it off to someone else who can download the file without even logging in to my application!
How can these "download links" be secured so that only authenticated users can access them only from an Apex session?
    Thanks

  • General security when downloading new application

Hallo, I would appreciate if people could add to this list of to do items as a general security procedure after downloading apps and utilities from the net:
-Set safari Not to open files after downloading
-Verifying source in info menu to coroborate that it did indeed just arrive from the web address that you accessed, although this is not always available
-checking file size against originating source
-checking places, through spotlight, where various bits and pieces have ended up
-checking activity monitor to see what active processes it has loaded when it is opened of course
    That's all I know
    thankyou guys

If so targeted I wouldn't rely upon anybody from Apple to read your comment. Apple doesn't use the AD forums for garnering product feedback or suggestions since this intended to be an end-user to end-user (i.e., users like you helping other users) technical issue support feature. You should send feedback via:
[http://www.apple.com/feedback> - Apple products feedback links
If targeted at individuals, some of the suggestions are possible of course.
-Set safari Not to open files after downloading
Easily done in most browsers though at some stage you do eventually want/need to open a file.
-Verifying source in info menu to coroborate that it did indeed just arrive from the web address that you accessed, although this is not always available
Not always available, but at least in Firefox you can see the URL to which a link is directing you. However, many major sites now use other hosts too so something arriving from a third party site isn't unusual.
-checking file size against originating source
This often isn't provided in great detail by the source. I don't know how much code is required to provide a hole but it might just be a few tens of kB.
-checking places, through spotlight, where various bits and pieces have ended up
If you mean the originating file, okay, but if you have your browser set to default save to a directory then I don't see why it wouldn't end up there. If you have it set to a place by choice then again I have never in 15 years of web use seen it end up anywhere else.
-checking activity monitor to see what active processes it has loaded when it is opened of course
After an application is installed and running? There are many, many sub elements of applications as well as lots of system applications running that I'm not sure anybody except a real Unix wizard could tell. Also there could be a bit of "call home" which is running as part of the application itself, all clear and above board.
I think the main security issue lies in network traffic. Maybe an application and code inserted in it you wouldn't like. It could even be benign but maybe you just don't like it calling home to tell the developer you just ran his/her application for the 357th time. Several people here highly recommend Little Snitch because it tells you all about your network traffic. I'm running it in demo mode. It's interesting but I don't always recognize the component that is doing the call (it could be Tiger calling Apple about setting my clock) or the address to which it is calling (as I said, lots of services use third parties).
My take is, I've been using Macs since around 1990. I think since then I remember a free virus scanner catching one virus back in 1993.

  • Windows 7 Security settings -Downloads

    Hi
Does anyone know why my system setting does not allow me to download even basic download files such as firefox setup files?
I keep getting "Your current Security setting does not allow this file to be downloaded"
The issue is not my browsers as both Chrome and IE are giving me the same response on this Win7
My other computer with Win7 allows downloads
    All help appreciated

DonCan2013, My suggestion would be to reset Internet Explorer settings to their default, as first step to troubleshoot this kinds of issue.
Start menu search --> Internet Options --> Advanced --> Reset --> Reset.

  • Cannot complete iPad security update download or installation. err= -3259

I've been having trouble downloading and installing the latest iPad security update (iPad version 4.3.5) from the most updated iTunes (version 10.4.1). Whenever it reaches the end of the download, it would give an " err= -3259 " code and indicate that my network connection has timed out. However, there isn't any problem with my network connection (this was even tested with an Apple staff in the Apple store). But they can't fix the problem either and asked for me to call Apple Support. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Some else helped me with this.
    See:

I was able to download, update, and restore my iPad using the process suggested by a helpful person in this thread.

  • Norton Security Suite Download (?)

I received an email from Comcast telling me that Norton Security Suite is a free download for Comcast customers. I'm not sure if I should do the download. What do you think? I appreciate your input. Thank you.

Don't use it on a Mac.
Norton Antivirus has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)

  • Fire fighter security table download

    Dear Experts,
After downloading the Fire fighter Security table(/n/virsa/vfat -> Utilities -> Download) this can be opened in excel and see all the passwords. This is a potential risk in Security and authorization. Kindly suggest me is there any note or corrections to get the data downloaded as encrypted itself ?
Or any other suggestions welcome please.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Shiju

    Hello Shiju,
Just wanted to ask you what role (s) does the user have, who is downloading and changing the passwords. Are they standard SAP provided or are they custom?
Role "/VIRSA/VFAT_ROLE_ADMINISTRATOR" has access to "Export" the list and role "/VIRSA/Z_VFAT_ADMINISTRATOR" has access to "change" the password.
Also, in case you do not want the export function to be available to any user, you may chosse not to use these SAP default roles for Firefighter but create your own roles and assign them to the users, where you can define the table maintenence for "/VIRSA/ZVIRFFPWD" table, not to be available to anyone to restrict this.

    Hersh.

  • Won't Restart after latest Security Update Download.

Yesterday I downloaded the latest Security Update to my Mac Mini with Snow Leopard.  It downloaded but would not restart.  I finally managed to get it to boot to a bootable external drive and using Disk Utility found the HD was OK but the Preferences way out of wack.  I did what I could but when I tried restarting to the original drive it would not work.  I just get the white screen with a circle and stroke through it after a minute with the spinning ball.  I have tried the original start up Disk, pressing C on Startup, but it just spits it out.  I tried to use an older System disk, one for Leopard but it will not see it.  I tried zapping the PRAM twice to no avail.  Now it won't see the bootable drive either.....
To me it sound like a massive hard drive fail.  Nothing to do with the Security update.  Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated though.....
    Thanks,
    Stephen

No one on the Apple site could help me so I took it into Tekserve in NYC.  I was afraid that I was going to have to replace the entire Hard Drive but they finally managed to get it working.  In the end for $60 they reinstalled the System, keeping all of my files intact.  I have a bootable external drive, but I was happier not to have to use that.  Apparently it was a multilevel problem, and not something anyone can fix themselves. If you look at the Apple discussions quite a few people had problems with that update.....
    Best of luck,
    Stephen

I recently downloaded the newest security update from Apple on to my Macbook PRO and started having trouble sending out emails. I have to shut down my computer and restart everytime I need to send one out. It has also effected Safari and made it incredibly slow. I believe it is that update because I have also just updated my PowerBook G4 at my work and am know experiencing problems there too. I thought my troubles at home were because I had switched from Roadrunner to Verizon for my service. But I haven't changed anything at my work other than that download. Is anyone else having these problems? Does anyone have a solution to fix them?
