Secured card graduation question

I have a couple of secured cards and have recently been denied for unsecured cards and received some additional secured card offers instead. I understand that most of the bank secured cards can eventually graduate after one year. My question is: is there any relation between the intial deposit amount on your card and the potential CLI you receive once/if your card graduates? I usually cannot afford to put down large deposits and often just do the minimum, Does my small deposit influence the banks decision on what CLI to give or is it solely based on how I use the card and my current credit score/report at time of graduation?

If I understand your question correctly.....NO. Accessing a secured network "by chance" is almost impossible. Now can some one access a secured network..... Maybe. Secured networks are protected by a password and if the password can be obtained then your in, however passwords on networks are highly encrypted. It would be a lot of work so some one would probably have a darn good reason to want in.

  • WHEN TO RECLAIM DEPOSIT ON SECURED CARD WITHOUT AFFECTING MY SCORE

So I have a Secured Visa with Southland Credit Union.. this was my 1st secured card right out of BK because they didn't pull my CR so I was all for it.. The CL is $2100 and I have had it since Jan 2015... My question and concer is... I keep hearing that we shouldn't close accounts because they'll lower your score badly and as is my scores aren't all that great (Mid 600's)... but I was able to get a $1000 Unsecured with NFCU, and a $1800 Discover IT Student CC (Unsecured) as well as another $1000 unsecured CC with Calif. Coast Credit Union.   My $2100 Secured Visa with Southland isn't going to graduate anytime soon because they already told me that due to my BK I have to wait 2 years minimum to reapply for an unsecured card.. but then, do I just leave my depsit there??? :/    What should I do??

So if I'm getting it correctly... the mention that closing a "secured" CC will affect the credit score is "INCORRECT"... Right? It could affect your score if your utilization is not in check as you will lose the CL that Fico makes the calcs on, other than that there is no loss of score closing a secured or any other type of credit card. My utilization % - with the new approved CC's should be about the same or lower considering I'd be closing a $2100 CL but adding two credit lines totalling $2800 so it balances out.. in fact I'd have $800 more  But I will follow the suggestion of waiting for 1yr after opening the account to close it  Thanks so much.

  • Capital One Secured Cards

Hi all, it's been great reading up and learning so many things on this forum about getting your credit back into shape. My only wish was getting to this forum before making a couple of recent mistakes that I should have known better but you live and learn.  So currently I have 2 Capital One secured cards; one is a HSBC Orchard Bank card that transitioned once Cap One bought out their credit card portfolio. My current limit on the Cap One card is $700 (initial limit was $300 until I added $400 to increase the limit late last year) and $300 on the converted Orchard Bank card. The last time I had a late payment on both accounts was back in October of last year. Since then I've made my payments on time and always more than the minimum.  I know from reading in this forum these cards don't graduate and although Cap One offers the account combination link when I sign in, I think I saw someone state it doesn't work with secured cards. For the heck of it I did request a credit limit increase on both accounts and one letter I received stated that I can't initiate credit limit increases on secured cards and the other letter said one or more of my accounts was recently 60 days past due. I also spoke to a rep and asked how many Cap One cards I can have (including branded) I believe she said 5 but when I did the prequal and the Platinum came up I applied for it and then got a letter stating that I couldn't have more than 2 cards. For the Cap One veterans am I just stuck with these 2 cards with no hope of getting a larger credit line (I know there is a cap to it) or getting an unsecured card? I was figuring maybe if I closed out one of them then maybe I can reapply for an unsecured card? Thanks for your time.

That is a great question core; speaking for myself I would say it's just my inexperience. By no means do I want every Capital One card they have, I was just trying to figure out what to do with these two cards and maybe at least get one unsecured card from them.Keep going to the well, keep getting the same poisoned water.  That's what we say in Texas. I understand, it's kind of a security thing.  Well if I were you I'd bust out and apply for something _other_ than Capital One.  If a mortgage writer looks at your file and sees 3 Cap One accounts and nothing else, what's he going to think?  He might think you're mentally ill and decline the mortgage.  I think 3 Cap One accounts is grounds for state-funded looney farm in some states.  You want a "travel" card, there you go. I don't know anything about your credit profile, but if  you're still in the secured market you might want to check out this helpful list:  Get one that will unsecure and grow with you.  But really, FICO doesn't know about secured cards so it doesn't affect your score anyway.  It's a card like any other.  And some are SP.  I'll take one of those SPs anyday over a triple HP and raised eyebrows from the mortgage lender from having 3 Cap One accounts and nothing else.

  • Post BK Rebuild, Secured card?

So after scouring a few posts and realizing that the hatred here for secured cards is high, i figured id open (sorry) a new topic with my personal question here. I've read that ANYONE can get a Capital 1 "pretty much" immediately out of BK7. and that to get secured is as bad as comitting suicide, the question is this, whats really so bad about a secured card? The CU that i visited after i filed and faxed Chexsystems said theirs graduates after a year, i was considering $1,000 or so as a good point, i mean i already have the money to do it and its not gonna hurt to do it. is it the money? the fact its "Secured"? What really makes it SO bad for a rebuild. Im not entirely in a rush to get my credit rebuit, but to apply to Cap1 and get shot down even if its months from now, to take a hard inq and all that only to be told no, isnt going to make me feel any better either lol. wouldnt it just be better to get in good with a local CU?
    Thank you.

I used a secured card with Capital One for almost two years. It served me well. I had the money to put into it and it was great having a card that reported to all three credit bureaus. In fact, I just cancelled the card this morning and have my deposit coming back to me in 7-10 days. After my Chapter 13 fell off I executed an app spree and now have all I need right now. Make the decision that is right for you and best of luck to you. There is life after bankruptcy!  In my wallet: Venture 15k; Barclay Ring 12.5k; Discover 10k; CareCredit 7.7k; Amazon Store Card 5k. QS 5k; BofA Travel Rewards 3.5k; BofA Travel Rewards 3.5k; BofA Platinum Visa 2k; Barclay Apple Rewards 2k. Total Credit: 66,200. 7/2-FICO: EQ - 788; TU - 777; EX - 690; GOAL: 780 across the board then 800 across the board. Inquiries: EQ: 7 TU: 7; EX 7; Chapter 13 seven years May, 2015. • Why do you need a copy of my wife's social security CARD?

My wife tried to move from her parents family share plan to her own plan. Already a Verizon customer, she was asked to fax her social security CARD to corporate verizon. When asked why her card is needed and not all others who sign up, she was told this was a "Random" policy, like being selected at TSA. This did not make her feel very comfortable in sharing such personal information. Is anyone able to provide a better answer as to why her card is needed? She has excellent credit and is already a customer! If she gets no answer, she is going to AT&T.

She does not have an issue providing her social security number in order to perform the background check- she did so. The issue we are having it that she was then told that she needed to fax her drivers license and social security card in order to complete the credit check. When she asked why, the answer was "just because". She asked if everyone had to do this, and was told no. So she asked why SHE in particular needed to, and no one could answer that question. She does not feel comfortable doing this, and she should not have to if it's not required of everyone.
She would like to be able to set up her account without faxing her social security card, like many other people are able to. Can you please let me know who we can contact to make that happen?

  • Secured Card Changing To Non Secured

Hello everyone, I'm pretty new to the credit game. Around the time I signed up on the forum I opened my first secured credit card with the intentions of buying my first home. At the time I had no credit score. Things have been moving along pretty fast. Now I have three secured credit cards and two secured installment loans as well as a mortgage commitment on a house I'm in contract to buy. My mid score is currently around 733 or so. I have been trying not to make any waves during the mortgage process. Last night I received a letter in the mail from TD Bank (my first secured credit card). They are saying that they are upgrading my secured credit card to non secured and realesing my deposit. I'm pretty excited because it would be my first non secured credit product and also my highest limit credit card (2,500). At the same time I'm a little bit concerned because I don't want anything in my credit report to change during the mortgage.  I was originally told when I first applied for the secured card that it had no chance of ever graduating to non secured and after a full two years I could apply for a non secured credit card with another hard inquery and it would be a new account. The old account would be closed. Now the rep I talked to says it will be the same account and no hard pull will be done. I hope she's right because I don't want my score to go down by having an account closed and a new account added to my reports along with a hard pull. I didn't ask for the card to be graduated. They sent me a letter saying it would just happen and there was nothing for me to do on my end. Does anyone think this could make my score go down or complicate my mortgage process?

I got the same letter about 2 weeks ago - no any changes for now. Will see.

  • Capital One Secured Card Changing

I just had a long conversation with a Capital One CSR. I originally called to ask about the Credit Steps program on my new QS1 ($1k CL) and then asked about my existing Secured card ($99 dep for $300 Dec'14 -> $200 deposit -> $500 deposit -> $300 CLI = $1,300 CL). Anyway, he told me that the Secured Card is going to be changing in the next couple of months. You will no longer be able to make deposits to increase your CL. Capital One will be determining CL's and increasing them where they see fit. This is important to those who are gradually increasing their limits. I have no plans to increase mine any more now that I was approved for the QS1. After 5 on-time payments, he said they will be increasing that by $500 (though I've heard people are getting larger CLIs). Once I am able to convert from QS1 to QS, I will probably close my Secured.

You might want to hold off on that. I read that C1 will be able to combine limits, so you might be able to transfer the unsecured portion of your secured card to your other C1 card.

  • HT5312 how do u reset your security answers and questions, if you forgot them

I need help witht reseting my security answers and questions and  i forgot them.

The page that you posted from has instructions for how to reset them i.e. if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down that page should give you a reset link.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • Ridiculous Social Security Card Requirement

Verizon Wireless is the only carrier I know of that requires having actual Social Security cards to sign up for service. Many people don't have their original SS cards. Other forms of ID should be allowed for these people. Insisting that the SS cards are essential to conduct credit checks is moronic. The SS number itself should be more than sufficient. I'm going to keep after Verizon until they change their policy.

Bought houses, cars  and  and other items requiring credit checks. Never showed a SS card.  Never showed one at work either. However been asked many times for my SS number.
