Security by Department

I see on the user setup window there is a department drop down list.  However, in the authorizations window security seems like it can only be set by individual user id.  Is there a way to assign security settings to a department so that they then roll down to all the users assigned to that department?

Well ,
I guess that would be a nice function to have ,but B1 is limited with user .
But Drag and Drop feature is really easy  so I guess that limitatation can be over come easily .
Intial Planning
User A   Dept A
User B   Dept A
User C   Dept B
User D  dept  B
Define authorisation for  User A and User C
For B  copy A by using Drag and Drop --- Drag User A and Drop it  in B .Your security setting is copied .
Hope this helps

  • Security Question - Departed Employees

    Hi all,
Quick question: Let's say a user is a member of couple of Native Groups in Shared Services. What happens when he leaves the company and his LAN ID is removed from the network? Will he be removed from the native groups automatically? Currently, I manually remove departed users from their native groups in Shared Services. It is no big deal, but sometimes a user could be a member of 10-15 groups and it is no fun to go to each group and manually remove him from the group. I've got more important stuff to do!!
    Thanks,
    Mehmet

I would assume it is since Openldap as it was nothing but problematic, now user provisioning information is stored in the HSS relational database.
I just double checked and deleted an AD user, they were automatically removed from the group in shared services and as essbase talks directly to the HSS relational db the user was also removed.
    Cheers

  • Security Optimization Self Service and EWA

    Hi,
I am curious if you can keep on using the same SOS session?
The ST14 data is of course different from every collection, but what about the preliminary data collected from the EWA download? Is this getting updated in the session (which I doubt) or do you need to close the current session and then create a new one?
What about if you reinitialize a session fx. once a month. Will the data from the weekly EWA download then be updated?

    Hi,
    Thank you for responding.
This was also what I expected, so thanks for confirming this.
Do you by any chance now why there are three checks (0303-0305) which is not rated, and do not contain any data at all? The data is collected in the ST14 upload.
I tried asking this in the security check department a couple of weeks ago, but it was apparently not the right place, since I have not got an answer :-).
Note 837490 says that this could be because ST-SER is newer than ST-A/PI, but I have got the newest version available.
    Thanks

  • Unable to load iTunes Store

Since the Apple support staff has proven themselves utterly incompetent, I was hoping I could find some help on the forums.
I am attempting to go to the iTunes store from the iTunes x64 Client (RC 10.5.1.42, the latest) on x64 Windows 7.  I am unable to because the page does not load, as if it times out.  No error messages are returned, and the client does not visibly change.  When I go to view my account in iTunes, it shows as a plain-text version of the site, looking like basic HTML and form buttons on a white background.
I have run through all the kb's I could find, and then succumbed to contacting customer support.  They then kindly told me to download the latest version of the software, which I had done three times already, including wiping my registry, temp, and app data of all Apple products/keys.  Then they told me to run through all the kb's, which again I already had, as they claim it's a connection issue on my end.  Clearly it's not, and I am attempting old versions of iTunes now just to verify this claim.

I am having the same issue and have spent close to 18 hours between Apple Support, my Security IT Department and Versizon FIOS trying to fix my problems.  All was well with my ITUNES account which I had previously synched with IPOD's and an IPAD2 until last week.  I tried to synch a new IPHONE 4S and have not been able to access my ITUNES store ever since.  I can access the store from my IPAD and IPhone but not from my Windows XP PC (or from 2 others).  I click on the IStore and my PC freezes at the same spot which is always the same spot about halfway along the ITUNES bar.  I've uninstalled and installed new two times.  I installed new for the very first time on a personal laptop and I have the very same issue.  One Apple support advisor claims its my PC Security Software causing the issue and another claims its my Verizon FIOS configuration,  neither of which had changed and worked perfectly until downloading 10.5.  I can't get to older software versions so would like to know where others are finding them.   I also have the same issue when accessing my account data which displays plain text without any HTML.  There are links but they do not work.  I have run all of the diagnostics and pass each time.  I am so frsutrated at this point I'm ready to return all of the Apple devices!  If you find a solution, please pass it along and thanks!

  • Erasing an iBook G3 for resale

I just sold my iBook G3 which had been running Panther since I got it.  I deleted my keychains manually and then I reinstalled the OS previous to Panther before shipping it to the buyer.  At the beginning of the reinstall, I believe I elected to have it erase everything before install.  Will this action have erased all my personal data safely?

Actually, doing a total reinstall does not clear everything from your hard drive. That can only be accomplished by securely erasing your hard drive, after which you would then install the OS again.
For future reference, that's done with Disk Utility -> Erase -> Security Options and choosing the 7-pass secure erase (Department of Defense standard), or the 35-pass erase option (really, really, really secure, but takes a long time and puts more wear on your hard drive).
You have to boot your Mac from the OS X install disk and run Disk Utility from there, since you can't erase the drive that Disk Utility is running on.

  • Email server offline

This problem began before upgrading to Mavericks but remains unchanged. My email server constantly responds "Mail was unable to connect to server “mail.speakeasy.net” using SSL on port 955. Verify that this server supports SSL and that your account settings are correct." My settings have been the same for several years and tech support on the server end confirms that they are correct, and on their web site, all email comes and goes as it should. I have an AOL account that works, a Road Runner account that works, and a Gmail account that sometimes goes offline but which can be coaxed back into service. But my two speakeasy accounts refuse to connect.
Any suggestions where I should look next?

  • Can a nook be used with os7

Can a Nook be used with Apple products?  I don't want network or virus problems.

Android is the most malware-prone, insecure platform there is - but millions of users seem to survive without dropping like flies!
    I can't answer Q.1 but as for Q2:
How safe is your smartphone? (Android is the top malware collector)
A major source of malware, apart from sites like Facebook and Hotmail, is the Android Marketplace:
More than 50 applications available via the official Android Marketplace were initially found to contain a virus.
Analysis suggests that the booby-trapped apps may have been downloaded up to 200,000 times. The apps are also known to be available on unofficial Android stores too. Once a booby-trapped application is installed and run, the virus lurking within, known as DroidDream, sends sensitive data, such as a phone's unique ID number, to a remote server. It also checks to see if a phone has already been infected and, if not, uses known exploits to bypass security controls and give its creator access to the handset. This bestows the ability to install any code on a phone or steal any information from it.
Remote removal of the booby-trapped apps may not solve all the security problems they pose. The remote kill switch will not remove any other code that may have been dropped onto the device as a result of the initial infection.
Moreover, more than 99% of Android phones are potentially leaking data that, if stolen, could be used to get the information they store online.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13422308
The data being leaked is typically used to get at web-based services such as Google Calendar.
The open nature of the Android platform was a boon and a danger, and as Facebook have already discovered it is also a very attractive criminal playground.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12633923
Smartphones and social networking sites are likely to become the next big target for cyber criminals, according to a security industry report.
Symantec's annual threat analysis warns that the technologies are increasingly being used to spread malicious code
Users of Facebook, Twitter and Google's mobile operating system, Android, are said to be particularly vulnerable.
In several cases, the security holes were exploited and used to install harmful software on Android handsets - suggesting that criminals now view smartphone hacking as a potentially lucrative area, and Android is still in the firing line:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15600697
Android: it's getting worse: Juniper found a 400% increase in Android malware from 2009 to the summer of 2010.  We have since seen exponential grow in Android malware over the last several months. The Juniper Global Threat Center found that the months of October and November are shaping up to see the fastest growth in Android malware discovery in the history of the platform. The number of malware samples identified in September increased by 28% over the number of the known Android malware samples. October showed a 110% increase in malware sample collection over the previous month and a striking 171% increase from what had been collected up to July 2011.
July 2012: Smartphones running Google's Android software have been hijacked by an illegal botnet, according to a Microsoft researcher.
Botnets are large illegal networks of infected machines - usually desktop or laptop computers - typically used to send out masses of spam email.
Researcher Terry Zink said there was evidence of spam being sent from Yahoo mail servers by Android devices:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18720565
One question Juniper always get when discussing our research is if Apple’s iOS is more or less secure than Android? Maybe, but it’s not necessarily because of the security or lack of vulnerabilities in the platforms themselves. The main reason for the malware epidemic on Android is because of different approaches that Apple and Google take to police their application stores. Android’s open applications store model, which the lacks code signing and an application review process that Apple requires, makes it easy for attackers to distribute their malware. There is still no upfront review process in the official Android Market that offers even the hint of a challenge to malware writers that their investment in coding malware will be for naught.
    http://globalthreatcenter.com/?p=2492
At least six different varieties of malware were discovered hidden in applications that were distributed through a Chinese download service.
Several pieces of malware were also found on iPhones, however only devices that had been "jailbroken" to bypass Apple's security were affected.
The company's process of pre-vetting all new applications is believed to have spared its devices from a major attack.
(Apple closed out 2011 with a commanding 52.1 percent share of mobile devices tracked browsing the Web, while Google's Android had just 16.2 percent.)
    And most recently this:
Millions of people are using Android apps that can be tricked into revealing personal data, research indicates.
Scientists tested 13,500 Android apps and found almost 8% failed to protect bank account and social media logins.
These apps failed to implement standard scrambling systems, allowing "man-in-the-middle" attacks to reveal data that passes back and forth when devices communicate with websites.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20025973
    And this:
Freezing an Android phone can help reveal its confidential contents, German security researchers have found.
The team froze phones for an hour as a way to get around the encryption system that protects the data on a phone by scrambling it.
Google introduced the data scrambling system with the latest version of Android called Ice Cream Sandwich.
The attack allowed the researchers to get at contact lists, browsing histories and photos.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21697704
    Update from May 2013:
Malware targeting mobile devices is rapidly growing in both the number of variants found in the wild and in their complexity and sophistication, but the only platform being actively targeted is Google's Android, which researchers now say is resembling Windows on the desktop PC.
    http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/05/14/mobile-malware-exploding-but-only-for- android
And in early June 2013 a highly toxic trojan began attacking the Android platform:
    According to reports:
Obad.a exploits previously unknown Android bugs, uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections to spread to near-by handsets, and allows attackers to issue malicious commands using standard SMS text messages.
By exploiting this vulnerability, malicious applications can enjoy extended Device Administrator privileges without appearing on the list of applications which have such privileges," Unuchek said. "As a result of this, it is impossible to delete the malicious program from the smartphone after it gains extended privileges."

A recent study on smartphone malware has found that 92 percent of nefarious mobile software is targeted at Google's Android platform, and the amount of attacks are growing:
The latest data released in June 2013 by Juniper Networks reveals that Android malware has grown at a "staggering rate" over the last three years. In 2010, it accounted for just 24 percent of all mobile malware, while as of this March the platform accounts for nearly all of it.
In the last year alone, the total number of malicious apps has grown 614 percent to 276,259. The annual Mobile Threats support also identified more than 500 third-party Android application stores worldwide that are known to host mobile malware.
    http://newsroom.juniper.net/press-releases/juniper-networks-finds-mobile-threats -continue-ram-nyse-jnpr-1029552
The far reaching vulnerability, discovered by San Francisco's Bluebox Security, involves "discrepancies in how Android applications are cryptographically verified & installed, allowing for APK code modification without breaking the cryptographic signature."
Android apps (packaged as an "APK") are signed with an encryption key (just like iOS apps) to prevent a malicious party from changing the code. Signed apps are expressly designed to enable the system to detect any tampering or modification.
However, due to the newly discovered Android flaw, a rogue developer can trick the system into thinking that a compromised app is still legitimate, giving it system wide access to do virtually anything.
"A device affected by this exploit could do anything in the realm of computer malice, including become a part of a botnet, eavesdrop with the microphone, export your data to a third party, encrypt your data and hold it hostage, use your device as a stepping stone to another network, attack your connected PC, send premium SMS messages, perform a DDoS attack against a target, or wipe your device," a representative of the company wrote AppleInsider:
    http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/07/03/security-flaw-opens-all-modern-android -devices-to-zombie-botnet-takeover
The problem (with Android) is: that committee design has failed to make Android a good platform for either users or for developers. By not making any hard choices and giving people what they said they wanted, Google simply abandoned the future to cling tenaciously to the past.
Rather than conceptualizing and engineering really new solutions to historical computing problems as Apple did with iOS, Google has only attempted to wrest control away from iOS via volume shipments and has effectively sent mobile computing back in time into the 1990s, resulting in the same malware, spyware, viruses and usability issues of Windows.
    http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/07/14/editorial-googles-android-haunted-by-s teve-jobs-warnings-on-app-signing-security
The Department of Homeland Security considers the malware threat from Android so serious that they issued a public warning on July 23, 2013:

  • Disk utility not erasing used space on external

Info on the 1 TB Lacie External drive reads:
    Capacity 999.87GB
    Available 999.21 GB
    Used 663.6 GB
Why are the 663.6 GB used?
Please read what I've already done:
    Deleted all items through finder
    Emptied the trash
    Securley emptied the trash
Erased the drive in disk utility
Erased free space in disk utility
Secure Erased the drive with the "most secure" US Department of Defense settings in disk utility
Erased and reformatted drive with a different format - MS-DOS (FAT)
Erased drive and formatted back to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Tried some steps involving the terminal and lost my mind (if you give me terminal answers please make it copy and pasteable).
    Yet still...663.6 GB used.

Fair enough. I'm selling it though. Do these residual system files contain anything that would allow someone to roll the drive back and access my deleted data?

  • Email NO Email for 10 months

Eleven months 11 since I have had email. I have spent hundreds of hours the phone, visited corporate, assured it would be taken care of. It has cost me $1000.00's od dollars I can ill afford to lose. My notepad was just stolen but I cannot get it because I cannot recive an email or have a service tech find it' So I will lose a $800  note because all of Comcast cannot figure out how to fix a server problem/ To make matters worse I am a Military Veteran who is  100% disabled. i cannot go anywere there is no one to speak too, I live alone. no family. a city new were I came to help my mother die. I know no one here. AND NOW NO EMAIL. I do not lie, cheat, or steal. Comcast and the Cox family thinks these thing are ok as long as the profits increase. Sadley I am not even suprised anymore. Isolated and poor I am fair game for the yipping hyenas

What are you using for email? Xfinity Connect or another email program?
Do you also use a smartphone or tablet?
Have you sent a test message to yourself? Do you receive it?
Have you checked to make sure that you do NOT have the Safe List enabled? To check that:
Sign in and click on My Account. Now click on the Users and Settings tab in the new window.
Scroll to Email settings and click that link.
Now scroll down until you see the Safe List setting. If it is ON, the button will be green.
With the Safe List on you ONLY receive email from people you have added to the Safe List. All other email is deleted.
If that does not solve your problem, please call the Security Assurance Department for assistance.

  • DONT USE VZ MESSAGING

    Hello all!
    And **** YOU VERIZON.
Here's how my night has gone: Casually sitting on the couch watching TV tonight, I receive a VZW text informing me I've apparently changed my password to my verizon account online. Hm, well actually I didn't. So I proceeded with checking my account, whilst checking my online account I receive another text message. This time from 555-5, claiming I've now signed up for Verizon's new delightfully stupid feature: Integrated Messaging. When in fact, I didn't sign up for it. "Integrated Messaging" is Verizon's wonderful idea that allows you to receive all your texts via computer, tablet, or other device. So basically, the person who hacked into my account was seeing my incoming text messages. Now why would this person want to view my incoming text messages? AH, because my Gmail account send me new codes to my phone each time I log in. Wonderful, this hacker was not only viewing my private conversations but also acquiring my e-mail sign in codes. So in turn, we had a password changing fight via vzw.com until I finally won. The hacker obviously gave up, and I also changed all of my account information. Unfortunately, the hacker obtained my e-mail that just so happened to be linked to my checking account, my Facebook, my everything. Yipee! Right?! So I deleted that G-mail account and all it's data. Changed my passwords and information to all my other online accounts, etc. But honestly, because of this wonderful little "Integrated Messaging" app that Verizon has created, I have lost all trust in the company's security. If it was this easy for someone to hack my vzw account and view my incoming texts that's quite disturbing. And I'm the type of person who is constantly changing my passwords to crazy numbers and letters, who never puts her information out online, anything. All of the hacking in my life that occurred tonight began and stemmed from my verizon account. So props, Verizon. You've royally ****** me over. But you don't care because you have too much of your billions to count and numerous people's bill's to screw. Up your security, that department is lacking.
    Warm ******* regards,
    A very ****** off customer

Ouch - if, in fact, the Messages+ app is the root of all this (or at least, getting access to a MyVerizon account, and through that to Messages+) this is scary, and not a good thing. In order to actually get the Messages + app functioning on the computer though, I had to input a time sensitive code (received on my phone).  So I'm not sure how the hacker was able to get to your text messages.
That aside, do you still have access to your Verizon account?  Can you remove Messages?  Yes, your Verizon account was hacked, but as the previous poster said, be angry at the hacker.  I've had my Gmail, and other accounts compromised too - hackers are a pain the you know what, and despite all my precautions (Google two-factor authentication, highly secure and unique passwords to accounts, a password generator and keeper, firewalls, etc) I STILL get notices from companies that THEY have been hacked.  Verizon is not alone.

    Properties prop = new Properties();
    prop.setProperty("user", "guest");
    prop.setProperty("password", "guest");
    Driver myDriver = (Driver) Class.forName
    ("weblogic.jdbc.pool.Driver").newInstance();
    conn = myDriver.connect("jdbc:weblogic:pool:RDBMSPool", prop);
    stmt = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT * FROM tblDep");
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery();
----------------------------------------------------Hi. You don't show the code that is closing the connection. You also
don't show the scope of the connection. It must be a method variable,
not a class or isntance variable, because servlets and JSPs exist as
a single class instance, being run simultaneously by multiple
threads. One thread may close the connection before another tries.
