Security issue? sharing & BTMM off, yet I can share files

I'm on a G5. Back to my Mac is off. All sharing is off (nothing checked) in system prefs. Yet I noticed that my Macbook (which is two floors up) is showing up in my sidebar. I figured it was just the icon, and I wouldn't be able to connect--yet I was able to browse the Macbook, and right now I'm transferring files.
Am I missing something? If sharing and BTMM are both off, how can I connect to my Macbook?
My modem/router is a 2Wire 2700hg, connected to the G5 via Ethernet.

I read something about how logging out of .mac doesn't always log out completely... some BTTM features remain activated, creating a security hole. For this reason, I only log into my .mac account from user accounts dedicated created specifically for me, never from someone else's user account. The Guest account might work too since in theory it gets wiped as soon as you log out.
Separately, I have seen advice from Apple saying that if you want to really log out of .mac, you should pretend to log back in using some random characters in the username and password. This resets some kind of cache and ensures that your username is truly logged out.
Try it out and see if the file sharing access persists.

I have imported my pictures into aperture, how do I export into jpeg files so i can share files with friends who dont use aperture ?

If you want the same export settings on some or all of the images you can select all that have the same export requirements and export them as a group.
If all the images have the same requirements then you can select them all and run the export command.

  • Can i make (for example) 3 partitions on my external Hard Drive, and make different formatations for each, so i can share files of one of them in a pc and mac?

    Hello ...
My name is Rui, i'm from Portugal ... (so please be patiente with my english, it can get a bit confusing)
so... first of all ... i have to say ... i'm still a pc user ... i don't have a Mac ... yet ... they are sold out right now in the shops near me ... i am waitting for them to arrive so i can pick up mine ... (i wish in a couple of days i will be entering the Mac world ....) ... i'll be picking the "entery" iMac model, the 21,5'', i5 with 500gb hard disk ... well .. i know it's the cheapest one (i hope it is a good machine tho) ... but it's my entering Mac world too (my only apple products till know were the ipod ...) ... one of my concerns are being the 500gb hard drive ... that for my pc experience is a little bit short ... that makes me a little scared (but paying 300e for the next model to have a 1tb disk, it's not a good option for me right now) ...
    so..
I've been reading a lot about iMac's ans OS X so i can get familiar with this all new world ...
and i couldn't get any answer for some of my doubts... so i decided to ask you Mac Users ..
My idea is to have an external HD to store files (and not to fill the 500gb of the iMac) ... and i am wondering if it would be possible to make this ...
    - make three partitions on the external Hard Drive and
    - the first be formatted in Mac OS extended (journaled) mode
    - the second on fat 32 - so i can store and share files with a mac or pc
    - third be reserved for  Time Machine
i wonder would that be possible... or would make sort of incompabilities ... would it work all well ?
    hummm ...
I hope someone can help me with this ...
... if it is a silly question ... sorry ... but please remember, i've never had a Mac computer (i'm waiting for my 1st iMac to be available on store) ... so a lot of things are "flying" in my head right now ...
... and of course .. sorry for my english ... i hope you all understood me ...
thanks (obrigado) a lot for your patience...

    Hi! Dwagner, once again ...
I've just got my Mac last friday ... i'm still getting amazed with this new world to me ... eehe .. quite different ... but
... "i can do it, i can do it" eheeh
i'm in that period that a new question appears at almost every mouse click ... lol
so ... can you help me (once again) ..
you said you had your hard drive with this settings...
"You can partition for OSX (extended Journal) - read/write by only OSX or read only by Windows via BootCamp
You can partition for Windows (NTFS) - readable by only Windows
OR - you can format with ex-FAT and this is read/write capable for both operating systems."
how did you formated the partition in NTFS ? ... on the mac? using the "disk utility" ? or did you use another program to do so ...?
i hope i'm not "bugging" you ... this might be a silly question for most of people ... but right now ... it's a major question for me ... ehehe
    once again Obrigado (Thank You)

  • Spotlight permission issue with multiple users - user A can search files from user B

    Hello everybody,
i need your help with a bad and precarious spotlight issue.
Mavericks is a clean install on my 2010 MacPro and Everything runs fine - but this issue is very annoying.
User A is admin - user B a normal user.
    The Problem:
If user B uses spotlight in his account, he also gets the search results from files of User A.
This meens the files in the user folder from User A and also the files on his own extra hard-drive.
For Example to get it clear to you:
On the Desk of User A is a file called "birthday-presents.rtf".
User B searches in his Spotlight "birthday" - now he gets as a result also this file from User A.
He can not open it at all - but he can se it in the spotlight search results.
This also affects the mails, calendars etc.....
This is of course very bad to User A - because his file-names aren't secure anymore.
But also User B has a problem - because his Spotlight results are much longer with a lot files he don't want to see because this files are not his ones.
    What can i do?
I rebuilded the spotlight index, but this does not help.
Permissions also seem to be OK - here is a screenshot (german, but i think you catch it).

    No there was no migration.
Its a complete Clean install - i only copies Files, Mailboxes, etc. manually.
Here is the result of your advise - is it OK?

  • How do I set up a network between my Mac & PC's so they can share files

I'm looking to have a home network.. not the internet kind of network, I think it's called intranet (still learning about it) where I can have a Z: drive with a shared documents folder all my machines are able to access. I would also like to be able to access the files of any computer from any machine on the network. At some point I'm going to hook up an external drive, so that would like that to be the Z drive. I would want this external (Z) drive to be on the network so it's available from any machine as well.
This is the 1st Mac I've had.. while I have a decent working knowledge of PC's, I don't know anything really about the Mac world, so please feel free to explain everything to me as though I am a child.
    Thanks!
PS..Don't know if this is relevant, but I have a cradlepoint wireless router.

The answer to what Networking solutions are available depends on what Hardware interfaces are built-in and Mac OS your computer can run, which depends on which Mac it is.
If you can help readers determine which Mac you have, they are dying to help you, but you are not being responsive enough.

You can join the Macs to Active Directory . On the System Preference/Users & Groups pane, select Login Options and use the Join Network Account button.
If you just want to connect the Macs to other Windows machines for file sharing/printing this may help

  • Security issues in OM Actions

    Hello gurues,
I had customized some actions for PA and I could customized parameter UGR so that not all of them would be displayed in PA40 (depending on UGR parameter of each user)
Now, I have to deal with OM actions and I realize They dont use parameter UGR.... Is there any way to implement some security issues in these actions? How can I deny or grant access to OM actions to some users?
Please ANY comment will be very apreciated, thanks very much in advance.
      Regards, Cristian.

I don't know of a parameter to help you with this but a couple ideas: obviously, standard security will restrict folks from using actions they're not supposed to, but they'll still see them in the drop down list in transaction PP03 - they just won't be able to use them; you can use the actual transactions for the actions and only give people authorization to the transactions they're supposed to use (these are listed in Table T77S0 under group 'TCODE' and you have to look for them b/c they're mixed in with other transactions - for example, the action 'Create Position' is PQ13); you could just use PPOCE/PPOME, which is much cleaner than actions and the method I have recommended my clients use since 4.6C.  The client won't have to dig through a list of irrelevant actions.
One word of warning - don't delete the delivered actions you're not using.  They're used throughout the system.  For example, all the Training Management actions drive the screens in the Training Management function.  If you delete them, the training screens will be gone.  That may not matter now, but it could impact your client as they grow their footprint in the future.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Sharon

  • Cloud storage - how can I use my .png file shared in "public mode" like a hosted file ?

    Hi every body,
I am french and new on the forum so please be indulgent ! (for my english and my questions).
I am working on HTML signature for my company and I have a little problem.
to be viewed, my .png files needs to be on a server. So I remember that adobe gave me a 100giga storage for me to use.
    Cool !
But the problem is that the link only send me to a special view of my file... a jpeg one. So when I try to copy the url I can only use the .jpg
    I want my file !
So my question is : is it possible that the cloud storage isn't supposed to share any thing else than a miniature of my file and a download button ?
How can I use it for my signature if I can't acess it but only download it?
Thank you very much for your time
    Morgan

    Hi Morgan,
You are correct.  Public link sharing works as follows:
    -  you can share a public URL to your PNG file on Creative Cloud.  The recipient of the URL can view a preview of the file and download the file in the original PNG format or JPG format.
    -  it is not possible to give other users direct access to the original file in Creative Cloud.

  • How can I get Macs and PCs to share files on same network?

I have a 2009 iMac running Mavericks and a Macbook Pro retina also on Mavericks.   I also have a desktop running Windows 7 Pro and a laptop on Windows 8.1.   I have a cable modem (Comcast) with multiple ethernet jacks and a WIFI modem.   The Macs see each other on the network but the PCs don't always see each other and do not see the Macs.   Can someone run me thru the basics on networking so I can share files?    Thank you.
    Mark

    Arthur,
Thanks for the link.   It is a good starting point.   Part of my problem is that I do not understand file sharing protocols on the PC side.   The Mac sharing "just works."   I keep getting issues with permissions, or, on some days,  the PC just does not show up on my finder.   Let me take a look at the link and try some things and I will report back.

  • Can I share file between my Mac G4 and My new MacBook Pro

How can I share programs from my power mac G4 to my new MacBook Pro?

    Hi stefanfan,
    Welcome to the forum.
There are a number of ways, all of which require that you have File Sharing enabled in both Macs. File Sharing is enabled via the Sharing Preferences within System Preferences. When both Macs are networked all you have to do is open up a Finder window (just double click on your hd icon) and click on the Network icon located on the sidebar on the left of the window. The other Mac should appear, click connect and you're in.
If you have broadband and are connected via a router, does your router have more than one port? If it does, simply connect the other Mac to the port with an ethernet cable.
If you have a router with wireless capabilities (and both Macs have Airport cards installed) then you can share files wirelessly, again by enabling File Sharing.
If you do not have a router, you can connect both Macs together with a network (ethernet) cable and, once again, they will be able to see each other and you can open/transfer files from one to the other.

  • HT4783 I'm trying to learn how to use Airdrop between my wife's Mac and mine. We both have it, but this article did not help us learn HOW to share files.  Yippeee that we can...but HOW?

My wife and I are trying to learn how to use Air Drop.  The "tutorial" showed us where it is.  It came up.  I saw hers (Mac).  She saw mine (Mac). But where to go after that is, apparently, in the cloud somewhere.  The description says we can share files...which is nice...but nothing tells us HOW to share those files.
Thanks for your help out there...
    Dennis

    1. Open a new Finder window or use one that's already open
    2. Click on Airdrop, press Shift+Command+R, or find "Airdrop" in the "Go" menu
    3. Drag your file to the icon of the person you want to send the file to (if you have mountain lion, you can use the share button).
    4. The other person has to click "save"
    5. The file will send and appear in the receiver's downloads folder
In Mountain Lion, a new feature was added: the share button. It's a button with a picture of a box and an arrow jumping out of it. Click on it and the third (and last) option is "Airdrop" and clicking on it will allow you to send files over Airdrop without opening it in Finder.
