Seeing long delays on youtube vids

Ever since the install of FF7.01 on Win7, I am seeing long delays on any youtube vids. You can click play and it will take several more seconds than usual to load. Then when it does play it does not respond to the stop/start button. All that displays on the screen is a finger. The screen will hang consistently for 30 seconds even after clicking stop. During this period ALL tabs are inoperative.

This seems to be addressed after updating flash to version 11-64bit

  • All of a sudden can no longer watch YouTube vids....What's up?

Within the last several days, more and more videos which I have saved to my Ipad2 watch list, and have viewed many times, have now refused to play.  I keep getting "This video is not available on this device."  At first I thought it was maybe some newer vids that I had added to the watch list but not viewed yet, but as I checked more and more of the ones I know I've watched, I realized that it is affecting most videos, if not all of them.  BTW, I've been using the full YouTube site, not the mobile version (which I'm not really interested in using).
So, what the heck has happened to screw up my ability to view YouTube vids all of a sudden??  And don't tell me to use some other browser...it all was working fine until the past few days with Safari and PC YouTube site.  So what the heck has gone kablooie ??

I won't tell you to use another browser. I will tell you that a few people have talked about this very same issue in the past few days and nobody seems to have a clue why that is happening.
I can't remember the exact discussions but you can do a search in the upper right corner of this site to see if you can find those discussions and see if anybody was able to figure it out.

  • Long delay when trying to save print as PDF

For some reason, there is a long delay, usually up to five minutes, before the system will allow me to save a print as a PDF. I ran disk utility and no issues arose. Anyone know why this is happening?

    HI,
Make sure there is enough free space on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

  • Bridge CS4 has LONG delay in opening the first image

Photoshop CS4 upgrade was my Christmas present this year. I've been fighting this annoying "problem" ever since then...
I DO see this "problem" on my desktop PC, which is a Dell XPS-400 PC (with 2 GB of memory) running Windows XP (Media Center Edition) with SP3 installed. I DO NOT see this "problem" on my laptop, which is a Dell XPS-1530 (4 GB of memory) running Windows Vista SP1. I installed the Photoshop CS4 software exactly the same way on both machines, and I have the preferences set the same in both Photoshop and Bridge (and Camera Raw) on both machines.
Here's the situation: I first open Photoshop CS4 and then click on the Bridge icon in the Application Bar to open Bridge. When I use Bridge to open a photo, by either double-clicking the thumbnail, or right-clicking on the thumbnail and choose "Open" from the context menu, there is a 42 second delay before Photoshop opens the file. This long delay only occurs when opening the very first file.
Once that first image file is opened, double-clicking any thumbnail in Bridge will have it open in Photoshop CS4 in about 2 seconds. There will never be another long delay in having Bridge pass a file to Photoshop (or Camera Raw) again - until I close the applications and restart them. Once I restart the applications, the first photo takes 42 seconds to open....
This delay does not occur in opening the first image file if I right-click on the thumbnail in Bridge CS4 and choose "Open With" and manually choose Photoshop CS4.
Even if that is how I open the first (or several) image file(s), the first time I try to open a file from Bridge by double-clicking on a thumbnail (or right-click on a thumbnail and choose "Open") there will be that annoying 42 second delay before it opens.
It does not matter what the file format the first image file is (JPG, PSD, TIFF, or DNG), or what the file format of any subsequent image file is. As long as I do not close the Bridge and Photoshop applications, any subsequent file will be passed from Bridge to Photoshop in only a couple of seconds.
I have manually set the File Name Extensions in Windows XP, and in the Preferences in Bridge. Both have been set to open the file types listed above with Photoshop CS4.
I have uninstalled CS4, and have used two seperate Registry cleaners (CCleaner and jv16 Power Tools) before re-installing Photoshop CS4. This had no effect on this situation. I've run "chkdsk C: /r" several times, with no problems reported.
I have been searching through these forums for over 2 weeks now, and I have not seen anyone else report such a problem. I use my XP desktop much more than my Vista laptop, so I'd really like to fix this situation, but I don't know what else to try.
    Gregg Mack

    Don,
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I tried them all, but the problem remains exactly as it was. To properly document my efforts:
In Bridge's Preferences, I Purged and Compacted the Bridge Cache, then changed it's location to D:\Bridge_Cache (D:\ is a second physical internal SATA drive).
I can not tell the exact size the Cache is set to, but the slider in Bridge's Preference is very close to the left end (10,000) of the slider.
The Windows Page File is set to 3072 MB min and 4096 max, and it is entirely on the D:\ drive. (I have 2GB of physical RAM in the PC.)
I defragmented the C:\ drive using Diskeeper 2008 Pro Premier, and even ran a Boot Time Defrag.
Rather than set some exclusions for Norton Anti-Virus, I jsut disbled that Virus checking program for all of my experiments.
I deleted the Bridge Preference File by holding down the Ctrl key as Bridge was restarted.
I even deleted the entire contents of the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. I then rebooted the PC - twice. I then re-disabled Norton Anti-Virus.
The PC is approaching 3 years of age, but it is a 3.2 GHz Pentium D machine with 2 GB of RAM and two internal SATA drives. Every other application that I run on this machine responds reponsively. Again it is only the FIRST image file that I have Bridge hand off to Photoshop (or Camera Raw) that takes forever. The second and subsequent image files take a second or two.... That doesn't sound like it's an "old hardware" problem to me.
I'm willing to try anything else that you, or anyone else would like to suggest.
    Thanks
    Gregg Mack

  • Since downloading Rosemite I have had long delays in starting up my iMac ?

I downloaded Yosemite on my iMac on 20.10.14 and have been experiencing long delays in starting up each day ?

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes   after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract—not at the end.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A GPU restart report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".gpuRestart". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Problem With Listener Service: Long Delay Starting Listener, Intermittent Connections

I am having trouble connecting to my Oracle database.  I'm not sure what the cause was, but now when I connect to a database that has been working fine for the past two years, I usually get a ORA-12541 error.
I run lsnrctl status on the server and get a prinout like this:
Copyright (c) 1991, 2010, Oracle.  All rights reserved.
    Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=dqaswn02)(PORT=1521)))
    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener

    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
      TNS-00511: No listener
64-bit Windows Error: 2: No such file or directory
I've also tried manually stopping the service via services.msc and then restarting via lsnrctl start, but when I do this I get a really long delay (10+ minutes) before it returns with something like:
TNS-01153: Failed to process string: 0í≈♥
I'm pretty lost as to what is wrong.  I've been messing around with listener.ora, but I don't see anything problematic in there.  Here's a copy:
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: E:\app\myc0714\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora

    TRACE_FILE_LISTENER = LISTENER
However, a few times during this I've been able to connect to the server, via sqlplus, but it has taken 10 minutes before the connection comes online.  Once I'm connected, I can query my tables as expected, but I need an application to connect.
If anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong, please let me know.

When I opened up netca, I didn't have any listeners configured, which seems very strange.  When adding it, I get this message in the cmd window:

  • Long delay starting up in Leopard

I have been finding that my Mac Mini is taking an inordinately long time to start up in Leopard 10.5.5. I have long delays in both the gray screen with the rotating gear, and also in the "blue screen" that appears afterwards. I have tried starting up in verbose mode to see if I can identify a problem in the startup sequence, and there seem to be a number of errors that occur during startup. I have several different external disk drives attached to my Mac (both FireWire and USB), which may be contributing to the problem, but it seems to be slow even when I disconnect these devices. Is there any way to troubleshoot or debug the startup sequence to streamline it and allow the Mac to start up more quickly?
Thanks for any help or input on this.

    Dear everyXnewXday,
I'm as mystified as you are. This sounds exactly like my issue. Have you tried starting up in Verbose mode (hold down cmd-V on startup)? This will give you a running log of events that occur during startup, and may indicate where errors are occurring that the operating system has to resolve or work around in order to proceed. I'm no expert in interpreting this information, though, which is why I posted this question in the event others have ideas about how to reduce the amount of computational "red tape."
Do you have many external drives or other peripherals connected to your computer? One thing I have noticed in the startup sequence is that the OS has some difficulty recognizing or mounting some of them (in particular, a Seagate FreeAgent USB drive). Not sure if this is a driver issue, but I believe I have the most current drivers for all my external drives.

  • [SOLVED]Long delay opening files if multiple selection in file chooser

    neok wrote:
    Hi,
When I try to open several files in an application, (example: Gimp), by multiple selection in the 'open' filechooser, there is a long delay (about 1 sec per file) before the Gimp starts opening image files. During this delay, the disk access LED flashes continuously and iotop indicates that its jbd2 accessing (writing) on the / partition on my SSD drive. This is despite the fact that the image files are on an external USB hard disk and the Gimp would have no reason to write anything on the / partition. Even if it did, the image files are small (50-100 kb) and such a long delay would be out of place.
The significant thing is that the delay occurs _before_ the Gimp starts opening files. It seems the delay is in the filechooser making a list of the files to be opened. Once the Gimp starts opening files, it finishes quickly.
This sort of thing happens with other apps that can open several files by multiple selection in a filechooser.
Any hints please? I am lost here :-(
The delay is caused by (apparently) GTK which writes to the ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel file, to record all the files that are opened in the multiple selction. Even so, this writing seems too slow, even when opening a large number of files (the ones that I open by multiple selection, by an app that I am working on, are about 10k each, so opening a few hundred should not take the delay I see, about 30 sec).
Anyhow, I patched the problem eventually by chattr +i ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel to stop the writing. But I would prefer to disable the use of this file by configurtion rather than brute force, if there is such a choice.

I re-installed and reconfigured Arch so that I now have a fresh, uptodate system. In the process, I found that this problem occurs when I run the Gimp as a normal user. If I run it under sudo, all is well. I am strggling to find out why, but no results so far (have checked file permissions where I thought there may be a problem, but no joy).
    Any hints much appreciated.

  • Clearing recent history causes very long delay with message "a script has stopped responding"

When I take option to "Clear Recent History" from tools dropdown, there is a very long delay EVERY TIME, followed by this message:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:136
This happens even when Javascript has been disabled. This problem first appeared just after installing Firefox version 4.0
I can proceed to "Clear Recent History" only by again clicking that option after taking option to stop non responding script.

I have resolved the problem (for now) by uninstalling Firefox 4.0 and reinstalling Firefox 3.6. When 4.1 becomes available I will try 4 again.

  • Intermittent very long delay before login available

    Windows 7 64 - SP1 fully updated.
I have a few remaining Windows 7 desktops in my Domain.  Ocassionally (have not found a pattern) the user will boot up the computer or come back from lunch and try to unlock their computer.  The computer will go to a blank blue screen but no username
or password field will display.  The mouse is responsive.   After a very long delay the credential fields will display and the user can log in.  This delay can be 20 mins or more.   This seems to happen to the same computers but
only occasionally.  Sometimes a forced reboot is required.  After reboot the system usually works as expected.
When searching for this issue and resolutions to it, I don't seem to find this exact issue - or I am not wording it correctly in a search.
If this happened consistently, I would probably repair, or wipe and restore the system.   I am not seeing anything in the event log that would be related.
I look forward to your advice.
    Fred Zilz

    Hi Fred,
Since the delay occurred before your input the credential. It's not related with domain.
Let's aim at the Windows 7 computer itself. Generally, it should be the winlogon process cannot load successfully.
    Did you use Aero theme?
If yes, try disabling the Aero theme and use the Windows 7 Basic layout.
Meanwhile, logon with the local administrator and perform a clean boot to see if there is some other service conflict:

  • Embedded YouTube vids broken

I've installed Mavericks, and now notice that Safari doesn't play embedded YouTube videos correctly. It shows the initial bit (ie, black screen, red 'play' button, and video title, top left), but pressing play just gives a black video – not controls or anything.
Extensions are off, and I've even tried Safe Mode (Safari wouldn't work correctly for normal viewing, let alone YouTube).
Is anyone having the same issue? I'd reall like to re-install just Safari, but don't see how.
Normal YouTube pages are fine, but embedded vids – whether Flash or HTML 5, as far as I can tell – don't work. Others in my office have no issues, so I know it's specific to my Mac, but any ideas would be helpful.

I am having a similar issue. I have just today purchased a new macbook pro with mavericks pre installed.
Youtube will at first only be a blank screen, then if i press play, the video then plays ok.
However, if I then click another youtube video link, or watch the next video, it will load the new page but play the previous video I have just watched. Its bizarre, Ive never experienced this before. This was pre-flash installement, so intsalled flash player, did exactly the same agan. Ive uninstalled flash and not sure what to do. Im not signed up for HTML 5.
This has never happened on previous mac's. Ive now installed google chrome and youtube works fine. Although now have to adjust to the chrome browsing experience.

Laptop is closed on my desk connected to my HDTV at 1080P. I use Firefox as my web browser, latest version.

    Hi Think,
Youtube videos (or anything that uses Flash, which Youtube does) are extremely CPU intensive, which creates heat. Your temperatures are not out of line though, 158ºF roughly equals 70ºC which is just fine for an operating temperature. Yes, it is a little warm, but its not going to do any damage. If you see greater than 200ºF then perhaps start to worry, but you shouldn't see temps that high.
My personal opinion on Flash is this:
Flash is, more often than not, used on the internet for advertisements. I don't really want to see too many advertisements, so I use an awesome Safari plugin called ClicktoFlash that basically loads a grey box in the place of flash content. If I decide that that content is something I'd like to view, then I simply click on the grey box. This stops Flash from running unnecessarily (which wastes CPU, generates heat, and decreases battery life).
Even better, it forces Youtube to load the H.264 versions of its videos. H.264 is a much higher quality and more efficient way of distributing video than Flash. Youtube began converting all its videos to H.264 a while ago, and so now the majority of them can be found in H.264. The result is higher quality videos on Youtube, less CPU use, less heat, and better battery life! Pretty good deal if you ask me!
You and others may want to try it out. It'll reduce your heat and increase battery life by a lot when using the web in general, but especially when using Youtube.

  • Long delay after F10 "full  motion" stop

I am new to Captivate and am recording a movie in Word where
I need user to see continuous movement of mouse cursor as I point
to different things in the Word document. I am also using
continuous audio while recording to movie. The problem is that when
I hit the F10 key to stop the full motion animation I get a delay
of about 20 seconds before the movie ends, even though I quickly
hit the End key after hitting the F10 key. The full motion movie
created is about 9MB and about 4 minutes long but with a long delay
of at least 20 seconds with no action at the end of the movie. It's
almost like my hardware is working to stop the animation and end
the movie but it is taking 20 seconds to stop the full motion
recording and ending the movie. Has anyone else experienced this
problem? I am using a laptop with a Celeron M 1.5 GHZ computer. Is
    my hardware the problem?
Adobe technical support has had me reload the Captivate
program several times with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi again Jeff
As I indicated in my earlier post, full motion in Captivate
is brief. For example, say you are recording WordPad (this example
is taken from the official Captivate training curriculum).
You record dragging across a sentence to select it. This is
just a few seconds long and ends up as full motion. You then click
the color pallete to change the color. This results in a static
slide. You choose the color. Another static slide. You step off to
show the color change. Another static slide. Now you scroll the
document to view the text at the bottom. Another full motion slide
as you drag the thumb of the scroll bar. Then you select multiple
lines. Another full motion slide as you select the lines. Then you
click the icon to apply bullets. Static slide. Then step off the
selected text to reveal the bulleted text with no highlight. A
    final static slide.
With Captivate, it is the combination of static and full
motion slides that provides the illusion of fluid movement.
    Hope this helps... Rick

  • Browsing---long delays states it is 'loading' second third attempt works fine.

When I enter a search topic---there is a long delay--tool bar states 'searching'. If I then re-enter after going out of the screen and then in again---the same thing happens. If I repeat the above---after two or three times search commences like normal.
I find this very frustrating. If I go to another search engine this does not happen.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.<br />
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.<br />

Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks that you should update.
