Seeking to connect WRT54GS to wireD corporate lan in cubicle

After obtaining a second pc and wifi-capable cell phone, I want to install this WRT54GS  between the cubicle Ethernet connector  and the various cubicle devices.
However, whether I enabled or disabled DHCP service, it would not work.
The WRT54GS Internet connector, connected to the cubicle Ethernet jack flashed with activity, but no data passed to any of the wired devices.
What should be the correct settings to accomplish such an obvious task ?
And  is there a mode in which the WRT54GS can act as a simply Hub ?

After trying this, i found that the IP Phone from Avaya 4610SW IP,  which is one of the Ethernet cubicle devices nowadays,  stopped working and then no data flowed at all.
Apparently the Avaya phone receives its power from the direct connection to the Ethernet connector;
and hooking it up to one of the ports of the WRT54GS did not deliver as much juice as the cubicle Ethernet connector.
At least one of the WRT54GS ports should be able to deliver the electrical levels necessary to power an IP Phone.
This phone is hub double-ported to allow a PC or laptop to receive its Ethernet from that 2nd port on the IP Phone.
I then tried direct connecting the phone main Ethernet port to the single cubicle Ethernet  port and then feeding the phone 2nd port to the WRT54GS.  The phone was eventually drained of power again.
And this time the 2 PCs stopped transmitting any data and no IPconfig (Windows 7)  or DHclient (Linux) could fix the 2 PCs data transmission.
The WRT54GS was inaccessible with 192.168.1.1  because it was in DHCP Disabled mode and had to be 30-Second-Reset  to clear that condition.
I am back to the original phone and 1 pc configuration, until the WRT54GS or some other Wireless Router fixes this problem.
Clearly, the laptop hubbed from the Avaya phone is not draining power, in a way that the WRT54GS is, from the Ethernet cable.  The WRT54GS is A/C-powered and thus should not be draining the Ethernet cable of electrical power.
Amazing that Linksys has had this product out for so long and not worked out these issues.

  • Is it possible to use NAS storage (which is wired via LAN to AirPort Extreme) as a Time Machine destination?

Is it possible to use NAS storage (WD My Cloud EX2 or WD My Cloud EX4) which is wired via LAN to current AirPort Extreme, as a Time Machine backup destination?
There are two reasons I came up with this question.
    - Connecting via Ethernet should be faster than USB 2.0 connection
    - 8TB NAS storages are slightly cheaper than 8TB USB HDD
If it is impossible, I am planning to buy My Book Thunderbolt Duo 8TB and wire it for MacBook Pro directly for the purpose of Time Machine backup.
I have a concern with my primal idea of backing up via WiFi, as I tend to handle big files when doing music production or movie editing. I wonder if this affect the performance of MacBook Pro, as it might take more time to complete each backup via WiFi.
Many thanks for your advice in advance,

I would appreciate any advice which could include aother sollition of secure and practical backup.

  • Hyper-V Replication over Dedicated LAN and "is alive" checks over Corporate LAN

I am testing Hyper-V replication to see if it will be a suitable replacement for the ArcServer RHA product.  One thing I am struggling with is configuring the replication to use the dedicated LAN, but still have the host servers verify over the corporate
    LAN.
I have seen the blogs on how to use a dedicated route and editing the hosts file to get replication to use the dedicated LAN, but that also changes the LAN in which the host servers communicate.  It seems to me that if the corporate LAN were to go down
on the master server, I wouldn't be able to fail over the virtual machines to the replica server without first having to connect into the master server through the dedicated LAN of the replica server to shut down the virtual machines.
I need to be able to fail over to the replica server if the corporate network connection on the master server drops without having to go through the extra steps of connecting into the master server first.
Is it possible for the two items to be separated?  Can I tell Hyper-V to replicate using one specific IP destination on the dedicated LAN and have the replica server check to see if the master is live over the corporate LAN?

    Hi Telrick,
    >> It seems to me that if the corporate LAN were to go down on the master server, I wouldn't
be able to fail over the virtual machines to the replica server without first having to connect into the master server through the dedicated LAN of the replica server to shut down the virtual machines.
I want to say that there are "planned fail over" and "unplanned fail over " , the latter applies the primary server crashing (you can select "failover" on "replica server " then the VM will start up ,after the primary
server online again you can do "reverse" )
The point is that you can not use hyper-v replica as a backup (it will lost little data which have not yet been replicated to replica server when "unplanned fail over" happens )

  • Fixing Virtual PC 7 on Corporate LAN with Outlook

I was having problems getting my new Quad with 10.4.3 and VPC 7.0.2 to work properly at home to connect my Outlook using my VPN into work. I tried a bunch of stuff and ran across the following post at Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824440/
I was not familar with Virtual Switch but did the following which fixed my problem (for now):
I used my powerbook at work with VPN 7.0.2 installed to update first all Windows updates then all Office Updates, then connected to the corporate LAN and synced all my Outlook Folders (about 350 MBs.)
I then copied over the entire VPC file from my Powerbook to my Quad at home (file is user/Documents/Virtual PC List/BaseDrive.vhdp which was 4.5 GBs.)
I opened Windows XP and completely shut down (do not use Save State option.) Then went to settings and clocked Networking and then clicked the Virtual Switch option.)
I rebooted Windows, connected the VPN and Outlook popped right up with mailboxes all ready to go.
This is great as I now can use iMail in OS X at home with all my non-work email accounts working at the same time as being hooked to my corporate LAN through VPC and Outlook with out having to use the VPN option on OS X and looking everything else out.
Hope this helps some one else. . . .

This was not a question but advise.

  • Connecting WRT54G and Motorolla SBV5220

    Dear all,
I have tremendous problems having WRT54G workign after cable Motorolla router. If I connect motorolla directly via cable to the PC, there is internet. if I connect WRT54G to Motorolla unit and former to the computer, there is none, neither wired or wireless. I explored variety of tricks but nothing helped. Suspisioucly in statu IP never become a number for WRT54G. I restarted and reset WRT54G numerous times, I also changed it's IP to 192.168.2.1 in case it might a conflict with Motorolla. Nothing works
    thanks
    My WRT54G settings are default, 8.2.03 build 008, <script type="text/javascript">// Capture(month.num11) // </script> Nov. 8, 2007 , automatic DHCP

Well....you have two choices. I would recommend that you unplug your motorola modem from the electrical outlet for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes plug it back in, now try.
If that doesn't work, then clone your pc's mac address. search forum for instructions.

  • Lync for mac 2011 not working in corporate LAN

    Hi guys,
I have a mac client that has newest version 14.0.10 of lync installed. The Mac works on OS X Yosemite
operating system. The problem is that when you connect to corporate LAN, lync never connects and gives
    following error:
Sign in to Microsoft Lync failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the Internet.
If you share a connection via mobile or connect via outside network, you are able to log in and lync functions properly
I have tried to update root certificate on mac via copying one from windows client, but with no luck.

    Hi Itseeker1,
As ErikHMac stated, the new version of Lync for Mac 14.0.11 has been released, you can install it and check if the issue is solved.
I know you have installed the root certificate on Mac, but please check it again and make sure the certificate is issued by an Enterprise Certificate Authority (Internal CA) and
also should be trusted by the Lync Server.
In addition, it looks like an Internet connectivity issue, please try to flush the DNS cache by running the following command.
    dscacheutil -flushcache
    Hope it can be helpful.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • The best way to connect wireless and wired for a WRT160N.

It took me about 4 hours to find out how to connect wireless and wired to a network using model WRT160N.  Here is what I have done.  First install the CD when it says there is not connection connect your PC, Modem and router Andy any wireless are wired products, after that do what the linksys advisor tells your which is default.  When it gives you the security key write it down because you will need it for your wireless and wired Products.  Under security mode  type your SDD name and where key 1 is type your security password with was given to you.   Remember all you wireless products have to have the same SDD Like Linsys and all your wired products have to have a different name like Linsys2 but your Key 1 numbers has to stay the same.  That is all you have to do.  Remember that wireless and wired has to be in sequence.  That should do it.

    Hi David Hamilton1;
I guess that all depends on how critical your data is in relation to how much time you want to spend doing the erasure. Those higher level erasure options can take a significant amount of time to complete. Personally I don't have anything on my Mac that I think is worth more time then a simple erasure even if that does leave it some what recoverable. To me it seems some people are going overboard on this issue.

  • Windows 7 and XP Disable wireless when connected to hot wired

    Hello there,
We are facing IP address shortage due to redundant network connections from laptops because every laptop uses two IP address when connected to wireless network and hard wire. Does Windows 7 and XP natively has the options to disable wireless when a laptop
is connected to hard wired? I know the wireless can easily disabled by manual process but problem is user don't have the knowledge or don't bother to do that. So if there is a way to use GPO to configure this would be ideal -- no 3rd party solution please.
    Any suggestion is most welcomed.
    Thanks,
    TL

There are no Fail proof ways for Win 7 or 8 to make sure that AT ALL times Wire is used over WIFI. The metric setting is ignored by MS. I know cause my metric for the wired is 10 and for the WiFi is 9999, but at all times the WiFi is used instead of the
Wired. This is by design as Microsoft being as inept as always did not properly design their operating system. This is a DESIGN DEFECT, which Microsoft will not admit to, despite the fact that it could be caused by no other method EXCEPT incompetent design,
ignored during quality assurance testing etc. The reason there are a million people looking for a fix for this design flaw is that there is NO fix available. MS will not fix it as they got your money and could care less. Being that they are among the most
evil and greedy companies currently in business is why it will never be fixed. I dare them to prove me wrong and fix the obvious design defect. I double dare all who read this to log in to the MS tech net and demand that they fix this DESIGN DEFECT.
Any developer qualified to design an OS should have no problem permanently fixing this and Microsoft has NO EXCUSE for not doing so with an update!!!!!! All they have to do in the code logic is ask the system if the device getting an IP etc is using a "radio"
then it asks all the other devices that are getting or have gotten an IP if it was gotten via a radio, If during any of these quires the answer is I DID NOT get my IP from a radio connection then that IP path gets priority and all the others, IE WiFi gets
disabled. Then if there is a change in the network, loss of connectivity for example, the process is repeated and when everything say's it got its IP from a radio then the WiFi takes over. So in a nut shell every connection is looked at to see if it is from
a radio based device or a hardwired based device, NOT using metrics since that apparently can not be counted on, the prof is in the 500+ PCs I just setup, ALL OF WHICH GIVE A SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER METRIC TO THE WIRED, but still choose the WIFi. The order of
the connection establishment should not matter since the test is performed on every connection and as soon as one is found that is not radio based, it is left on and all others are turned off. Common sense really. This is NOT ROCKET science! Just good common
    sense programing.
So I challenge everyone who reads this comment to add a demand for MS to fix the DESIGN DEFECT once and for all.
That's all I have to say. If there is a script as some of the suggestions here mention that can do it, if there is a single 3rd party product out there that can do it, then there is NO EXCUSE for MS not to provide a PERMANENT OFFICIAL MICROSOFT CERTIFIED
FREE fix for this DEFECT. And yes it can only be classified as a DESIGN DEFECT as common sense say's you would AT NO time under normal operations EVER want the MUCH slower WiFi, 100 mbps  compared to 1000 mbps for wired to be in charge. EVER! Even if
the wired nic is only 100 mbps, some cheep junk laptops have the indecency to come with a 100 mbps nic instead of a Gigabit, the Wired is still better 99.99999% of the time.
And one last thing this IS THE ONLY REAL ACCEPTABLE ANSWER to the original question, and all the others just like it who EXPECT, with GOOD REASON, that COMMON SENSE, would be in charge NOT ignorance and defective designs, and that AT ALL TIME WIRED RULES
    OVER WIFI.
Hope this helps, it is time to insist that MS do their job AND FIX THE DESIGN DEFECT!!!!!!!!!
    Ralph
PS Not all systems have switches on the outside for disabling the WiFi. My HPs don't and trying to train all the users on how to MANUALLY disable it and when to do so etc is like trying heard flock of sparrows, it's not happening, NOR SHOULD IT NEED TO!

  • How to connect to Internet through a LAN

    Hi everybody !!!
Please show me how to connect to Internet through a LAN (through another computer).
On Windows XP system, i use the following informations to do that:
    + My IP: 192.168 .1.45
    +subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
+default getway: 192.168.1.12 (IP of another machine)
    +Preferred DNS server: 85.255.192.2
    +Alternate DNS server: 195.131.52.130
and in IE i use the proxy server: 192.168.1.12:8080
    Thanks alot !!!

Just how is the one computer connecting to the internet? What type of connection does the office have, DSL, Cable or is it a Data connection through a Cell phone provider.
I doubt all other computer are doing Ad-Hoc but are probably Sharing the Internet connection with Internet Connection Sharing from that one Windows base PC.
All you khave to do is Connect to that same WiFi SSID name and have the correct password for it.

  • How my iMac connects to printers-group by LAN. Any ideas in the other methods?

How my iMac connects to printers-group by LAN? Any ideas in the other methods?
I have idle-word in Printer Preferrence-Box. I cannot use the printer which linked PC by LAN.

"There is no way for the user to control which base station the Mac connects to in a roaming environment. "
Well, actually there is: and I'm surprised I didn't think of this before - even more surprised no-one else has!
The upstairs iMac connects to the Express via an ethernet cable - so I just un-ticked "Allow wireless clients" in the Airport Utility of the upstairs express. Therefore disallowing the downstairs iMac from joining the upstairs Express - and forcing it to connect to the downstairs, closer, Extreme Base Station!!!
That's OK if the upstairs one IS connected via ethernet - but if it wasn't, the other way of controlling which iMac connects to which Express is via Mac Addresses isn't it? I can make one Express allow certain computers and the other Express allow/disallow the others - simple. Simple but not mentioned anywhere.
So, thanks Chris - well done!

  • Can I use AirPlay from my PC to my AppleTV when connected to an AirPort via LAN cable?

Well as stated above I'm wondering if I can use AirPlay from my PC to my AppleTV when my PC is connected via LAN cable to an AirPort.
I'm asking because usually your PC has to be on the same Wifi as your other Apple device, so AirPlay can function, and id love the ability to Stream via AirPlay but still be connected to the internet via LAN cable.
Thanks in advance for any help!

AirPlay is not restricted to wireless only. It can also work over Ethernet. Basically as long as there is a connection (on the same subnet) between the iTunes host and the AirPlay "speaker" streaming should take place without any issues.
FWIW, My Win8 PC is connected to a Time Capsule via Ethernet. In turn my Apple TV is connected to the TC's wireless network. I have no trouble streaming from the PC to the Apple TV in this configuration.

Tried to restore to factory default settings and tried different devices with Os8 non of the are working.
Any one can help me please

Turn your Home Wi-Fi Router OFF... wait for 30 Seconds... Turn it ON.
If no joy... On your iPhone...
    Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.
