Select a region in plot

I may need to select a region in a plot as the attached screenshot.
When selecting it, a yellow or other color frame may appear. It can be rectangular or circle.
After the selection, the frame may disappear. And I may get the frame's position parameters.
May I know how to do it, thanks.

I just threw this together so there are a few kinks to iron out, but I think it should point you in the right direction.  It uses cursors and a background image, pull the handles (cursors) around to make a selection.  If you want the frame to disappear, or to select with just a frame, it is a simple tweak.

  • Simple, yet not so. How can I just edit out part of a track.  Help says select the region in the timeline, but doesn't seem to be able to perform a most basic function of cut and paste

Hi folks, anyone out there know how to select a region in the timeline so I can delete just part of a track.  I am making a soundtrack and want to fade in and out mp3's that I drag onto the track.
    Thanks.
    I feel dumb.

  • Here's a good and dumb one: what buttons do I press to select a region?

....'To select a single region, click it in the timeline' is too vague!
    Thanks you lovely lot

In the GarageBand window you can see the tracks in the right-hand side, with the mixer panels to the left. In each track you will see the regions, represented by rectangles with rounded edges. To select a region, move the mouse so that the cursor is over the region and press the mouse button. The region is now selected and you can move it, delete it, or carry out other operations on it. You can select more than one region at once by holding the shift key down while you click on each one in turn.

  • Track Selection Follows Region Selection

Does this exist? I'd like to select a region and have Logic automatically select the track that the region is on. This way when I double click a MIDI region and open it in the Piano Roll, the selected track will reflect the track of the region I am editing. Many times I'll be editing a region and then mistakenly adjust the volume of the wrong track because I forgot to select that track before I clicked on the region. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help, that's close to what I'm looking for but not really it. That links the piano roll and the region in the arrange window together. I'm trying to find a way to link a region in the arrange window to the track its on. I have "Select Regions on Track Selections" enabled, but I'm looking for the reverse: to have the track selection follow the region I've selected.
I hope this makes sense. I also hope it exists.
    Thanks, again for the help!

  • What is command to move a selected audio region to

start exactly where the last one ended? (ticks, etc...)
Is there a command that will get multiple regions to do that?
    Thanks.

The key command you're looking for is called "Pickup Clock (Move Event to SPL)".
Either move the song position locator (SPL) to the desired location with the mouse, or, enter that position by 2-clicking on the locator field in the transport and typing it in. Next, select the region you want to move. Hit the key command for Pickup Clock. Boom. Done!
This will work across multiple tracks. It's a fantastic command.
There's a similar command for taking multiple regions on a track and having them all butt up against one another. It's called "Tie Regions by Position Change". It does this:
    before:       [----1----]       [-2-]       [-----3----]
    after:          [----1----][-2-][----3-----]

  • Can Garageband NOT select all regions on a track when I select the track???

I'm recording audio on 2 tracks. When I switch from one track to the other, it doesn't look like anything's selected because all the other regions are off the screen to the right. If I record a quick region and then delete it, EVERYTHING ON THAT TRACK GETS DELETED because it's automatically selected.
So ... where is the setting in Garageband that lets you select a track without selecting all the regions on it?

When you select a track, it automatically selects all of the regions in the track, which I think is silly.
Only, you cannot avoid it. It is built in. So deselect the regions afterwards by clicking some empty space in the track.
Write feedback to Apple with a feature request, that you want it changed:

  • Select different Regional area? Like Freesat/Freeview allow you...

The SKY EPG is awful if you live in one are and want to watch another regional area TV. I live just over the Welsh border yet have always watched ITV Granada etc as Ch.3. However Sky, and the Sky EPG force you to watch ITV Wales (ch.3) and S4C (ch.4) instead of Channel 4. I know Channel 4 is available elsewhere (somewhere) in the EPG, but it is not on the first EPG page as I would like. It would be much better if you could enter your postcode and then be presented with a list of available regional areas... LIKE FREESAT ALLOWS YOU! Also this functionality is available with FreeView. Sky is really poor in this area! PS. Why is BBC2 HD not on Sky channel 102? BBC (SD) is on Channel 102. Rubbish!

Nope- it's not rubbish. Sky sell slots on the EPG to broadcasters (the first 4 have to go to the public service broadcasters as per an OFCOM ruling).
Those broadcasters then decide which channels are broadcast on each number and Sky deliver accordingly.
That's why, for example 105 is 5HD in some parts of England but not others. It's also how Spike TV took over the channel number it did - that slot was already owned by the broadcaster.
Freeview doesn't allow this choice either. For example - I can only get ITV Anglia on 3 ( and ITV Meridian HD on 103). No other ITV regions are available to me. Perhaps you're in an area covered by two transmitters so can select that way.

  • Marquee selecting audio region then hitting DELETE crashing Logic

When I marquee select and audio region and hit delete it crashes Logic everytime. Is it a setting I have maybe unknowingly checked off that restricts the use of marquee? It happens when I marquee just audio AND audio+blank space. How am I supposed to trim as I go along?
OK, now it's working, but I'm not going back to the original place where it was happening. Is it possible that one little piece of audio gets corrupted?
This has happened a couple times just like this...I'm halfway through posting a message on this topic and it self-corrects, but then when it happens again I'm kind of scratching my head again.

After further troubleshooting I've realized that the suspicious audio file that prevents the project file from opening is actually not corrupted itself. I can still play the audio file in other media software like Quicktime, etc. with no problem.
This leads me to believe the problem opening the project file lies solely with the corrupted 'documentData' file.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I could somehow open this project file and delete the reference of the troublesome audio file from the project's audio bin?
Well... it really sounds like the project itself is corrupted, that's one of the reasons all project files won't load from a certain point on.
    Try this.
    Reboot the Mac.
Open the Applications folder and boot Logic from it's icon.
As soon as the Logic Logo/graphic window appears on the screen hold down the control key. You will see a message pop up that says something like "Launch the Core Audio Driver" there will be yes/no choice available... select NO.
Go to the File menu and selct "open" go find your project file and see if it will open. If it does.. delete the audio file in question... however.. I would also look at any plugins you recently installed and are possibly using in this project...this sounds more like a plugin problem rather than an audio file problem, but that's just a gut feeling.
Anyway, if it opens delete whatever you suspect and save under a different name.
Reboot Logic and see if it can load the project.

  • Has anyone experienced this strange behavior when selecting a region of an image in preview?

When I select a section of an image that has the height and/or width of one pixel, the bounding box does the strange thing pictured to the left (at around 6x mag).  The box starts out the correct dimension on that axis (i.e., 1 px), but tapers down to 0 px by the other end of that line.  Below is an example (at 80x) if a 1 x 2 px box.  Depending on the direction you sweep the mouse when selecting the box can also appear as a single diagonal, horizontal, or vertical line.
Copying and pasting the selection demonstrates that this does not have an effect on the shape of the selection, only on how it is displayed.
I don't suppose that this is anything but a curious little bug with no impact on performance, though it could be confusing to some small subset of users.

Interesting but I do not see this in my Preview/cropping.

  • HT204447 Why do we have to select our region in iTunes Store?

I always wished that everyone had the same store because lots of other songs in the U.S store appear to be free and the U.S store has extra stuff like iTunes Radio, TV shows and single of the week. Those kind of stuff dosen't seem to be available in the Malaysian store and it's not fair!

The content providers (record companies, film studios etc) grant Apple licenses to sell their content on a country-by-country basis (they want control over where their content is available) - each country therefore has to have its own store, and you have to be in a country (and have a billign address in that country on your country) to use its store.
If there are items that you want to buy which aren't currently available in the Malaysian store then you can try requesting that they be added, but unless the rights-holder for Malaysia agrees to it then Apple won't be able to sell them there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

  • In Piano Roll: no  "Show Selected Regions Only" View menu item !!

I need to use this function, and it's not there!
The Manual says it should be!
Any one else have this problem, or know the answer?
    Thanks!

Why don´t you just select the Region in the Arrange and then open the Piano Roll? If you select two Midi regions the content of both will be displayed...

  • Select region in image / panel

Hi, I am displaying an image currently on a JPanel using the Graphics and BufferedImage class. Does anyone know of any method that i can use to select a region of the image. Also if the image has been scaled to fit the GUI, how will i know that the rectangle co-ordinates are accurate pixel representations ... Not sure if dat makes sense.
    Thanx

You can use Robot to capture an image of the screen (or any portion), but it would probably be easier to simply draw to where you want the image, by passing the Graphics object you want to draw to into paint()

  • How to mute selected region of a clip?

I know how to control volume of entire clip... But how to mute selected region of a clip?
Also I'm curious if iMovie'08 has some kind of audio frequency filter? My cam recorded it's lcd's whisltle sound. Is there a way to reduce it?

To mute a selected region of a clip in a project:
Select the region you want to mute by dragging the cursor while holding down the left mouse button. You should have a yellow rubber band around the portion you want to mute. You can adjust this further by grabbing the handles on either side of the yellow rubber band.
Now, select Edit/Split Clip. Your one clip should have become three clips. Select the one that you want to mute. Click the audio icon and set the volume to zero.
No way I know of to reduce the whistle within iMovie. You can share your movie and open it up in a Garageband project. There, you can do editing on the audio track with all the GarageBand Tools.
