Select List as a child to a text field?

I'm using APEX 4.1. I have a Select List that has a Cascading LOV Parent Item that is just another text field, the LOV sql has the text field in the where clause. When I type a few characters into the text field and tab to the Select List the list is filtered by the characters from the text field, but if I use the mouse and click the down arrow of the Select List I have to click twice before the list will be populated. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I would imagine it's a similar issue to the old 'mouse-navigate' in forms where no change event has fired while processing the arrow click. You may find different results in different browsers?
You may be able to solve your problem with a mouse-click DA on your select list? or something similar, who'se action refreshes that select list item.

  • Dynamic Select List / Radio Buttons triggering conditional display of field

    Hi HTMLDB Team,
    I wanted to mimic this very nice and useful HTMLDB 'select list feature' at the HTMLDB "Create Application ... from Application Export file " ... option .
    ie when you hit the form that asks you to "install the application", i,e
    Builder - Application >Export Import>Export Repository>Install Application
    you have the the following radio Options :
    Install As Application
    X Reuse Application ID 401 From Export File
    X Auto Assign New Application ID
    X Change Application ID
    New Application
    The "New Application ID" field appears only when I select "Change Application ID" radio option. That great and that's exactly what I want.
    How do you do that ?
    I am currently using a select list instead of radio list. It's the same thing ... I
    I tried " many options of the "select list with redirect .... with submit .... but I was not successfful. All I am trying to achieve is to offer a list of departments ... but when the user select "other", I want to show a text field for the user to type in the "other Department" ... without losing what I had already entered in the form previously and without actually Submitting the form . I still have other fields to enter after the select list .
    Is that possible with pure HTMLDB ?
    Or do I have to craft up some Javascript .
    I'd prefer pure HTMLDB .. I do not want to use javascript, to avoin a maintenance nightmare once I submit the code to other developers ...
    Can you pls help ?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello,
    Take a look at these built in javascript function
    they should give you what you want.
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:39
    CarlCarl,
    if I understand it right, these functions are already built in Apex 2.2.1.
    I need to show an item with label when user selects certain radio button. This sounds like the opposite to f_Hide_On_Value_Item_Row function.
    Can this task be done with apex built-in javascript functionality at this moment?
    Thanks

  • Select List with a Contains clause (oracle text)

    Hi, I am trying to create a dynamic select list, but am running into problems using bind variables.
    I am trying to do this:
    select distinct country d, country r
    from table1
    where contains(:P6_LIST_VALUE,''''|| :P6_NAME||'''');
    I keep getting the error: "LOV query is invalid, a display and return value are needed, the column names need to be different...."
    If I hard code the :P6_LIST_VALUE to be 'NAME' (which is what I named my context index) it works fine:
    where contains(name, ''''||:P6_NAME||'''');
    Is there any way to get around this error?

    anonymous - Please tell us your first name.
    CONTAINS Operator
    Syntax
    CONTAINS(
    [schema.]column,
    text_query VARCHAR2
    [,label       NUMBER])
    RETURN NUMBER;
    So you can't use a bind variable for the column name, just like you can't do "SELECT :COL FROM DUAL".
    Try &P6_LIST_VALUE. (with trailing period). This effects a textual substitution before the SQL is parsed.

  • How to Populate a drop down list using the values of a text field?

    Hi,
    I wanted to Populate the items of my drop down list according to the value entered in the textfield above it?
    also the value of list remains consistent in other rows also where i am using the drop down list field.
    Please Try to help me in this query.
    Thanks in Advance!!!
    I am using Javascript in adobe version ES 8.2.

    Part II:
    If you have other items for your droplist(s) that are to appear in addition to the "variable language" entered by a user you can add that to the script.  For example in addition to the Party1 and Party2 name appearing in my droplist I also want the list to have an option for a user to select: The parties jointly.  I add this to the script:
    this.addItem(Party1.rawValue);
    this.addItem(Party2.rawValue);
    this.addItem ("The parties jointly");
    If you have trouble making it work, post a bit of your actual form requirements.

    If it's IE, then this is not possible (at least up until IE7 which is all I can test on at present).

  • Populating Text Field using Dynamic Actions is not working

    I've a Select List (P14_ACCOUNT) and Text Field (P14_BILLING_ADDRESS_1) on a form. On selecting a value on the Select List, I've to populate the Text Fields by fetching its values from the database by using the Select List value as the primary key. To do this, I created a Dynamic Actions (Advanced) on the Select List, with event onchange and Set Value as SQL. However this is not working.
    Below are the sqls of Select List and Dynamic Action respectively:
    select ACCOUNT_NO || ' - ' || COMPANY_NAME display_value, ACCOUNT_ID return_value
    from ACCOUNT
    order by 1
    select a.address1 from account a where a.account_id = :P14_ACCOUNTNow when I substitute the Dynamic Action sql with any of the below sqls, the value shows up:
    select address1 from account where account_id = 41
    select address1 from account where rownum=1
    select user from dualI thought of seeing the value of :P14_ACCOUNT in session or debug, but session does not show any value and on clicking debug it throws a popup message "Debugging is not enabled for this application."
    I've been trying since few hours but with no luck. How can I debug further?
    Thanks for the help.

  • How do we handle a item in both as a select list & text

    Hi All,
    In my application, i have used Create button..when ever a create button is clicked a "Select List" will apper..
    Similarly i have also a "Edit" icon when ever a icon is clicked it will also the same "select list item"...
    Now the end user is asking to make the select list item as redaonly when we clik on Edit icon...
    How to handle this scenerio..
    The way i have done is as of now is that i have created two items with the same name one is for select list &
    the other is for the text item using conditional i have managed..
    But i would like to know is there any other way with out creating any extra item & by using only the select lits item can we achieve it or not.
    Thanks,
    Anoo..

    Hi Anoo,
    You mentioned in your original post that you have a select list item and a text item, and that you're using a condition to determine which one to show. For the Read Only condition for a single select list item, you would specify the condition you currently have that is telling ApEx to show the text item rather than the select list.
    The idea here is that if the Read Only condition evaluates to TRUE (currently in edit mode), then the select list item will render as read-only; if it evaluates to FALSE (currently in create mode), it will render as a normal select list.
    Hope this helps,
    John

  • Autofill cascading select lists

    Hello,
    Can anyone please help me out with implementing an autofill cascading select lists. If anyone has implemented a sample example ; can you please provide me the link.
    thanks,
    orton

    Which version of Apex you r using?
    If its 3.2 you can refer to this link: http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=31517:119:2521957760329919:::RP,::
    if its 4.0 then enter the name of parent item in "Cascading LOV Parent Item(s)" property of the select list
    and use the parent Item name in the where clause of select list query, like this.
    Select name d, eid r from emp where emp_id in(select emp_id from dept_emp where dept_id = :p01_1);
    where employee select list is the child and the department is the parent select list.

  • Help with select list item and dynamics action

    G'Day Apex Gurus,
    I having problems trying to achieve to trigger the help window of a select item automatically. A help window is triggered when the select item label is clicked but my client would like to be triguered automatically as soon as the user click to see the options in the select list.
    I think that I should be able to do it with dynamic actions but I can not get it to work.
    I know when someone click on the label of the select list item trigger this JavaScript
    javascript:popupFieldHelp('277938589795252851','1545903379570909')
    So I want to trigger the javascript also when the user click of the select list item and pull down the options and for that I think that Dynamic actions is the way to go but I can't get it right.
    This is what I a doing:
    I created a Dynamic option as follow:
    Name : test
    Sequence: 30
    Even: Click
    Selection type: Item(s)
    Item(s): P1_RATING <- a selection list item
    Condtion: - No Condition -
    True Actions
    Sequence: 10
    Action : Execute JavaScript Code
    Fire when event result is :True
    Fire on page load: ticked
    Code: javascript:popupFieldHelp('277938589795252851','1545903379570909')
    I appreciate any one who can tell me what i am doing wrong here or provide a solution to my problem of achieving to trigger the help window of a select item automatically.
    Kind regards
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,
    I set up a test case in exactly the same way and it worked fine for me. I created a page item called P1_DA_DEMO and added some static select list values then added some help text. The settings I used are below, I suggest you try again but also make sure you have no other Javascript errors on the page. Use a tool like firebug to check.
    Name : Dynamic Action Demo
    Sequence: 10
    Even: Click
    Selection type: Item(s)
    Item(s): P1_DA_DEMO <- a selection list item
    Condtion: - No Condition -
    True Actions
    Sequence: 10
    Action : Execute JavaScript Code
    Fire when event result is :True
    Fire on page load: Not Ticked
    Code: javascript:popupFieldHelp('277938589795252851','1545903379570909')
    Event Scope set a s Bind.
    Thanks

  • Livecycle populate text field with multiple records from list box

    Can someone tell me how can I populate a text field from list box when I have multiple select.
    Here is example:
    List box consist: Hello
                             World.
    I want to see this in text field: Hello,World.
    Thanks!

    Hi Legro
    I don't know if I understand you correctly, but you can do something like this:
    ----------------- java script begin ---------------------------------
    //Reset text field
    TextField.rawValue = "";
    //loop through items in listbox
    for(i = 0; i < ListBox.length; i++)
              //if item selected
              if(ListBox.getItemState(i))
                        //check if Text field value if null
                        if (TextField.isNull)
                                  TextField.rawValue = ListBox.getDisplayItem(i);
                        else
                                  TextField.rawValue = TextField.rawValue + " " + ListBox.getDisplayItem(i);
    ----------------- java script end ---------------------------------
    I have attached an sample PDF so that you can see how it works!!

  • How do I use Javascript to populate a text field based on a selection from a drop down box?

    Greetings,
    I have virtually no experience with JavaScript and I am trying to figure out how to add some basic automation features to an Adobe form.  I have a drop down box called "Hospital_Name" that will contain approximately 7 possible selections.  When the user makes a selection, I would like to have the text field (called "Hospital_Address") below the drop down box populate with the corresponding address for the selection.  I have the "Hospital_Address" text field configured for multiple lines and would like the address to have a line break between the street address and the city/state/zip.
    For example, if the user selected "Hospital 1", the text field would display:
    123 Main St
    Anytown, CA 12345
    Any help or examples you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    You have the element names within the object within brackets.
    Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.
    // Place all pre-population data into a single data structure
    var Location = {
    "--Hospital--":{ line1: " ", line2: " " },
    "Bellevue Medical Center":{ line1: "2500 BMC Drive", line2: "Bellevue, NE 68123" },
    "CHI Bergan Mercy":{ line1: "7500 Mercy Road", line2: "Omaha, NE 68124" },
    "CHI Immanuel":{ line1: "6901 N. 72nd Street", line2: "Omaha, NE 68122" },

        this.getField("AddLine1").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line1;
        this.getField("AddLine2").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line2;
    This is not a beginners task but requires a fair amount of knowledge about the structure of objects, defining strings, and structure of arrays.
    Are you sure you have all the field names correctly spelled and capitalized?
    Do you get any error in the JavaScript console?
    Just trying the line that defines the "Location", I get the following error:
    SyntaxError: invalid property id
    1:Console:Exec
    undefined
    All the form field in a PDF are processed by using JavaScript and any error in any script will stop JavaScript processing.
    It might help to have a link to the problem form.
    Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.

  • How to acquire display value of selected item on select list? Or...

    I have a select list generated from a SQL query that I need to get the display value from.
    Ideally, the display value and the submitted value of the select list would have been the same, but I can't seem to get APEX to allow populating a select list's display value and submitted value fields with the same database column.
    If you have any idea how to do either of the above, I'd love to hear from you here!
    Cheers,
    Ben

    you forgot the extra quotes I guess:
    declare
    l_sql VARCHAR2(4000);
    begin
    l_sql := 'SELECT product_name,project_name,information_access_system,dataset_name FROM v_dms_product WHERE product_name = ''' || :P24_CHOOSEPRODUCT || ''' GROUP BY product_name,project_name,information_access_system,dataset_name';
    return l_sql;
    end;

  • Select List with Redirect clears unrelated fields

    The Select List with Redirect seems to clobber any fields that were passed in from the calling form.
    In particular, I have a form where I'm trying to populate an intersection table. The first FK column is passed, and shows up when the form first appears, but as soon the select list is selected from, it disappears. The select list with redirect is needed to provide a filter for the select list to populate the second FK column.
    How do I preserve the value passed to this form so it's still there when the create button is pressed?
    Thanks

    Try to give condition to your process...
    In select list ... give some name to request....
    and then in your process enter :REQUEST <> 'SELECT' in this case when select list is submitted then that process will not be fired

  • Data display in Select List

    Okay, here's an easy one for you gurus. I've searched the forum but I can't seem to find how to control this.
    I've got a couple select lists on my page. When I click to get the list of values some of the select lists diplay the data downwards, below the field. However there's one select list that displays the data upwards. Why is this one doing this? Only difference I can see as this one has more data than the others.
    Thanks for your help!

    My guess would be that it's a browser-specific decision based on the size of the list and its proximity to the bottom of the visible portion of the page. Try a different browser and/or scrolling the box closer to the top of the screen.
