I'm sorry, etiquette lesson here, not an answer.
How does it not work? Is it returning the wrong data? If so a
description of what is desired and an example of what is
being returned
would be very helpful. Is it throwing some kind of error? If
so please
provide the error message. I'm I expected to have intimate
knowledge of
your data schema so that I can just look at all that and know
what the
heck it does? I can't run it for myself and see what it does,
I am not
on your system!
Add to that, please format the output so that is is readable,
whitespace
please!!!! There very well may be a simple syntax error in
all that,
but I am afraid I do not have the time to dissect it to make
sure every
comma is correctly placed.

  • JDBC Sender - Wrong SELECT statement (Oracle driver)

    Hi,
3 days ago I was having a problem with my JDBC Sender adapter [JDBC Sender adapter is reading but then there isn't the message in SXMB_MON; .
Finally I discovered what's wrong but I can't understant why is not working. When I deleted the "WHERE" condition in my SELECT statement all worked OK (except that I need the WHERE statement...).
Why that statement is not working in my JDBC Sender:
SELECT * FROM MATERIALES WHERE LEIDO<>'X'
    and that statement works:
    SELECT * FROM MATERIALES
The field "LEIDO" is my flag that I must set to X when I read with the UPDATE statement, so I need the where condition...

Thanks Christopher but still not working
    I tried two new statements:
    1 - Escaping:    SELECT * FROM MATERIALES WHERE LEIDO <> 'X'
2 - Changing the operator symbol: SELECT * FROM MATERIALES WHERE LEIDO != 'X'
The nº1 gives me an error of invalid character
The nº2 has the same effect than the other symbol, the adapter reads from the DB but no XML message is generated and no payload to check what's happening... just a message ID without information and without a message generated in SXMB_MONI

  • Case Statement in Select Statement - Oracle 8.0.6

I am trying to do the following, but am getting error -
"FROM keyword not found where expected"
    select s.item, s.dest, s.qty ,
    case when s.dest = 'x'
    then (sales - returns)
    else 0
    end
    from table1 s
Is this an error or is it because of the version of Oracle?

As I recall, CASe was not supported until 8.1. So, you need to use decode instead.
    SELECT s.item, s.dest, s.qty ,
           DECODE(s.dest,'x',s.sales - s.returns,0)
    from table1 sTTFN

  • Limitation on SQL executing select statement from ADO and Oracle 8.1.7.1 OleDB Driver

    Hi,
we are running a query with a big dunamic select statement from VB code using ADO command object. When Execute method is called system hangs and control won't return back to the application. it seems to be that there is some type limitation on Query string length. Please tell us if there is any?
we are running Oracle 8.1.7 Server on Windows 200 Server and connecting from a W2K professional, ADO 2.6 and Oracle OLEDB 8.1.7.1 OLEDB Driver.
    Sample code:
    Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
    Dim cmd As ADODB.Command
    Set cmd = New Command
    With cmd
.CommandText = ' some text with more than 2500 characters
    .CommandType = adCmdText
    Set rs = .Execute
    End With
when i debug using VB6 and when .Execute line is called system hangs or return a message method <<somemethod> of <<some class name>> failed error.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Anil

A stored procedure would only slow you down here if it was poorly written. I suspect you want to use the translate function. I'm cutting & pasting examples from the documentation-- a search at tahiti.oracle.com will give you all the info you'll need.
    Examples
The following statement translates a license number. All letters 'ABC...Z' are translated to 'X' and all digits '012 . . . 9' are translated to '9':
    SELECT TRANSLATE('2KRW229',
    '0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ',
    '9999999999XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX') "License"
    FROM DUAL;
    License
    9XXX999
The following statement returns a license number with the characters removed and the digits remaining:
    SELECT TRANSLATE('2KRW229',
    '0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ', '0123456789')
    "Translate example"
    FROM DUAL;
    Translate example
    2229
Also, LIKE '%<string>%' is going to be rather expensive simply because it has to compare the entire string and because it forces full table scans, rather than using indexes. You could speed this sort of query up by using interMedia Text (Oracle Text now in 9i). If you can eliminate one of the '%' options, you could also improve things.
My guess is that your stored procedure is inefficient and that's causing the problem-- 5k rows per table should be pretty trivial.
If you post your query over on the PL/SQL forum, there are better performance tuners than I that might have more hints for you. To get really good advice, though, you'lllikely have to get at least the execution plan for this statement and may need to do some profiling to identify the problem areas.

  • How to use Oracle Table Type values in Select Statement.

    Hi,
I am fetching initial set of values into Oracle Table of Records Type and want to use list of values in the Select statement.

    WHERE ID IN v_table(i).ID;
I want to know how to use the values from Oracle Table Type in the Select Statement.

    Something like this:
create or replace type t_record as  object (

  • Query regarding Oracle SQL select statement

    Hi,
How does Oracle ensures a consistent snapshot with the select statement
without locking the table. My question is summarized with an example below:
    1. At time T1, Oracle select statement is fired and is fetching the result.
    2. At time T2, some DML operation is performed on the same table on which
the select was executed and a commit was fired.
    3. At time T3, The Oracle select statement (Step 1) completes.
My question is whether the records of transaction at time T2 will be visible at time T3 or not?
If "not", then does it mean that Oracle retrieves the rows from the time of last commit.
I would also like to know if for the above mechanism, Oracle would make use of the rollback segemt to access the rows at a particular instant of time.
    TIA
    Regards,
    Raj

This is called Read Consistency in the oracle. Its all about SCN before starting the transaction.
    Lets say
    1. T1 executs SELECT statement on EMP table.
    2. T2 made an update on the EMP and commited.
But, T1 only still sees only old image of the data not the new one. This is called read consistency.
You will be having two images in the buffer, one is consistent and changed image.
When the T1 give SELECT statement it notes the SCN of the transaction. Read oracle document about read consistency.

  • DISTINCT in SELECT statements for  Entities / Views - Oracle JDeveloper 11G

    Hi Steve,
i have a question about using DISTINCT in SELECT statements for
Entities / Views. On Oracle JDeveloper 11G ADF / BC4J
    --- This is unique---
    SELECT
    distinct(GC."course_title"),
    GC.SEC_GRP_PARENT_ID,
    from "grp_courses" GC
--- This is NOT unique, but ROWID seems to be mandatory as PrimaryKey---
    SELECT
    distinct(GC."course_title"),
    GC.SEC_GRP_PARENT_ID,
    rowid
    from "grp_courses" GC
    How to use this query;
    SELECT
    distinct(GC."course_title"),
    GC.SEC_GRP_PARENT_ID,
    from "grp_courses" GC
and yet still be able to use it in View / Entity without a Primary Key or some equivalent solution.
    Thanks & Regards,

Hi, OK - I got it to work...
    Some notes:
    1) The View wizard cannot be initiated from the Entity Object.
    2) During the View wizard process - do not associate with Entity
    3) Selected columns must be mapped as expressions
    4) Using non-distinct columns will override the distinct function

Seems like you want to convert a SQL statement from the ??? dialect to the Oracle dialect. *(It would be useful to indicate the non-ANSI standard SQL you are starting with.)
Part of the problem is that you use several date related functions. Some are unnecessary in Oracle and some need to translated into Oracle functions as found in the Functions section (chapter 5) of the SQL Reference manual at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage
Note that columns and expressions of type 'date' in ORacle always contain all of "yyyy mm dd hh mi ss" and you need to format and trauncate as necessary.
Also note that '09-JAN-31' is NOT an Oracle date, but rather a character representation of a date which must be converted to/from a date expression. You will often need to use the to_date() and to_char() functions with a format mask as the second parameter. This is also descreibed in the first 2 chapters of the SQL Reference manual.

  • Execute A select statement under Oracle connection?

    Hi,
How can i execute a select statement
under an existing Oracle connecton without
    defining extera JDBC connection.

Be aware that you can create View Objects that are NOT based on entity objects. In this case, they are read only, but if you just want to display results, or check for a specific value, it at least reduces the overhead of an EO.
I'm not sure that answers the question here, but thought I would at least throw it out there.
In the View Object wizard, on the page that asks you to choose an EO, just click Next without selecting any EOs. This will automatically put you in expert query mode. Just type in your query and go.
You do have to be a little careful with expert mode queries, especially if you go back and edit them later. You need to make sure to keep the attribute mapping in synch on the Attribute page.
Also, I have found some limitations to this approach, which I'm not sure are fixed in 3.2. Namely, you can't use setWhereClause() to set the entire where clause string from the client. You have to use setWhereClauseParams(). This means that you have to have the basic where clause included in the query and user parameters as placeholders for the where clause values. These are JSP methods, I'm not sure what the equivalent is in DAC, but I am pretty sure the same limitation is there.

  • VC & Oracle (Select Statement )

    Dear All
I have implemented a feedback form in my Portal and the data which the portal gets is saved in oracle database .
Now my problem is i want to show the Admin of the portal what feed back we got
So I want to fire a select statement into oracle database but i don't know how to do that.
Can any one tell me how to get the result of select statement in VC from oracle database
    Regards
    Krishan

    krishan,
You should define your database in the Portal and give it an alias.
You will have to use the JDBC connector.
After doing so you will have to create a stored procedure to select your data from the Oracle DB.
You will be able to access the oracle DB from the vsual composer by means of Stored procedure.
Please get back to me if you need more help.

  • Pass list of values in an array to the IN statement of SELECT in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
This is what I have done so far...
I have loaded the main array array_number_1 using BULK Collect. Within the loop I am filtering the data from this array and writing to another array array_number_2.
I want to use the values from array_number_2 in the SELECT statement.
    Eg: SELECT sum(x_amount) charges
    FROM x_table
    WHERE id IN (array_number_2).
Could you provide a solution to this preferrably with an example.
    thanks

I'm not entirely following you, Visakh, but I have a SQL Task setup in which I have an expression that makes a call to a db2 database such as the abbreviated set example below.  The list of IDs in the IN statement must come from another  SQL Server
database.   In the past I have  gotten the list of IDs, put them in a recordset and then put that in a for loop to iterate and make one call to db2 for each and every ID.   The single ID example can literally take days to run for 100,000 IDs.
Therefore, I want to pull the entire set of results back at one time via a single (or at least fewer calls than there are IDs) DB2 call using 'in' instead.  Maybe I am overlooking something but I don't quite see how your example will get me where
    I want to go.
    Set Example
    SELECT
       A,
       B
    FROM
        Table 1,
        Table 2,
    WHERE
        Joins
AND PRSNEUP.ID in  ( This is where I want a list of IDs )
    Single ID Example
    SELECT     A,
     B
    FROM
      Table 1,      Table 2,
    WHERE
    Joins        AND PRSNEUP.ID =  ( VariableContainingASingleID

  • Secondary Index Select Statement Problem

    Hi friends.
I have a issue with a select statement using secondary index,
SELECT SINGLE * FROM VEKP WHERE VEGR4 EQ STAGE_DOCK
                                      AND VEGR5 NE SPACE
                                      AND WERKS EQ PLANT
            %_HINTS ORACLE
            'INDEX("&TABLE&" "VEKP~Z3" "VEKP^Z3" "VEKP_____Z3")'.
given above statement is taking long time for processing.
when i check for the same secondary index in vekp table i couldn't see any DB index name with vekp~z3 or vekp^z3 or vekp____z3.
And the sy-subrc value after select statement is 4. (even though values avaliable in VEKP with given where condition values)
My question is why my select statement is taking long time and sy-subrc is 4?
what happens if a secnodary index given in select statement, which is not avaliable in that DB Table?

    Hi,
    > ONe more question: is it possible to give more than one index name in select statement.
    yes you can:
    read the documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A97630_01/server.920/a96533/hintsref.htm#5156
    index_hint:
This hint can optionally specify one or more indexes:
    - If this hint specifies a single available index, then the optimizer performs
a scan on this index.  The optimizer does not consider a full table scan or
a scan on another index on the table.
    - If this hint specifies a list of available indexes, then the optimizer
considers the cost of a scan on each index in the list and then performs
the index scan with the lowest cost. The optimizer can also choose to
scan multiple indexes from this list and merge the results, if such an
access path has the lowest cost. The optimizer does not consider a full
table scan or a scan on an index not listed in the hint.
    - If this hint specifies no indexes, then the optimizer considers the
cost of a scan on each available index on the table and then performs
the index scan with the lowest cost. The optimizer can also choose to
scan multiple indexes and merge the results, if such an access path
has the lowest cost. The optimizer does not consider a full table scan.
    Kind regards,
    Hermann
