Selecting particular range of style using script

HI All,
Can anyone suggest me that how we can select the range of text using script.
I am having some different para styles say for eg., PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4...........
I may applyed these styles in some jumping order but except PS1, now I want to select paragraphs with applied style PS1 to stop before the next appearence of PS1 style.
Like: In a document Para 1, 10, 14, 25 were applied with PS1, so the selection should go in the way like 1-9, 10-13, 14-24 and so on
Regards,
love_all

"The" index of a paragraph is nothing special, it's the index of the first character of that paragraph inside its parent story. In particular, it does NOT tell you "this is the 5th paragraph" or something like that.
This is because "Paragraph" is an artificial construct inside "Text", not a truly existing first class object. Same as "Line", "Word", "Character", and indeed, any text selection at all.
Since you already have a "found text" array, "the index" of the nth entry's paragraph -- with the constraint described above -- can be simply found by using foundText[n].paragraphs[0].index (the index of the first character of your foundText is foundText[n].index).
If you DO need to know the nth number of the paragraph, search this forum. I think Peter Kahrel answered to a post to answer that exact question.

  • How to get certain applied styles using script?

    Hi All,
    I need to know how to get certain applied styles using ID Scripting. I don't have much experience in InDesign so need some help.
    Here is a screenshot with a sample text with the said styles applied and highlighted.
    I need to know what texts in my document have these styles applied like All Caps, Strikethrough, Underline, Subscript and Superscript etc.
    Please help.
    Thanks!

    Hi Poortip87
    The first thing you have to understand is how to refer to "where" you want to apply the style.
    If you want the script to apply the style to the selected text then you would use for example app.selection[0].strikeThru = true;
    If you for example want to underline the last word of the first paragraph of the first story you would use app.activeDocument.stories[0].paragraphs[0].words[-1].underline = true;
    If you just wanted the first letter of that word underlined then you would add .characters[0] after the words[-1]
    To for example apply All Caps to all the text in all the stories you would use
    app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().texts[0].capitalization = Capitalization.ALL_CAPS;
    The easiest way to find how to set properties to a selections is to set them manually and make the selection and then run the script below.
    You should be able to find all the properties you want very easily after running the script.
    Or you can use Jongwares excellent reference guide. Indesign JavaScript Help

  • How do I select a range of numbers using IF function

    I am trying to select a name in a cell if the value of another cell is either a 5,6,7,8 or 9.  I have had success when I have just wanted numbers above 9 or below 5 by using formulas
    IF(Table 1::C3<5,T(Table 1::A3),T(Table 1::A2))
    And
    IF(Table 1::C3>9,T(Table 1::A3),T(Table 1::A2))
    But for the life of me can't get the range of numbers in between.
    I have tried including AND and OR functions in multiple ways but to no success.  I know I am overlooking some simple thing, I have tried scratching for nested if functions but no help there either, and the information file in numbers is horrendously useless.
    Please help.  I am using an ipad btw.

    This forum is generally for iPad and iOS problems. I doubt that you'll get an answer here.
    Furthermore, you don't say what app you are using. If Numbers, you should post here https://discussions.apple.com/community/app_store/iwork_for_ios

  • How to select (all black) image outline using script

    hi all,
    we have thousands of clipart images to convert from wmf to png. We need to apply some processing to each image. We do this by selecting the black outline with contiguous off so it selects all the black. We then inverse the selection and apply processing to the remaining color parts of the image, leaving the black untouched. We can easily automate all of the steps excluding the first black outline selection.
    anybody have any idea how we can do this?
    alternatively should we do this in illustrator when we do the conversion from wmf to png and create layers there?
    thanks.

    Thanks Michael, we're trying this now.
    Yes images are very similar in the fact that the have a complex hand drawn pure black outline with gradient colour inside.
    This gradient being a WMF is only linited to 16 steps, so the banding occurs. This is especially noticable when enlarged.
    so the purpose of the surface blur processing is to smooth this banding in the output png image, but keep the black outline sharp and crisp.
    Below is a sample of one of the images done manually. now only 5999 to go
    original wmf: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/40046102/Aardvark%20v2.wmf
    Imported PNG from WMF through Illustrator, note the colour banding in the blue fill:

  • I want to open "Paragraph Style Options" dialogue using Script(jsx)

    Hi,
    I have created a paragraph style using JSX.
    var myDocument = app.activeDocument;
    var myParagraphStyle = myDocument.paragraphStyles.item("myParagraphStyle");
    Now I want to edit my paragraph style using the "Paragraph Style Options" window. How can I open the window for myParagraphStyle using JSX?
    Is there any way to do it? I don't want to manually double click the name in the list to open it.

    @kapoor_aman27 – with a little trick we could select a distinct paragraph style in the Paragraphs Style panel.
    Add a new text frame to the document, add some contents, one character is sufficient. Format its contents with your paragraph style. Set the Paragraph Styles panel to visible. Select the text in the text frame with something like that: app.select(myTextFrame.texts[0]). Remove the text frame; the paragraph style stays selected in the panel.
    The next step would be to invoke the "Paragraph Style Options" panel. The id for the appropriate scriptMenuAction is 8481.
    try{
    app.scriptMenuActions.itemByID(8481).invoke();
    }catch(e){$.writeln(e.message)};
    But unfortunately this would throw an error. Something like this:
    (Error message in German:)
    "Mit der angeforderten Aktion wurde ein asynchrones, modales Dialogfeld geöffnet,
    für das eine Vorschau erstellt werden kann.
    Dies ist nicht mit der Skriptarchitektur kompatibel, daher wurde das Dialogfeld
    mit der Standardschaltfläche automatisch verworfen."
    (Roughly translated to English:)
    "An asynchronous, modal dialog box was opened by this action.
    A preview can be created with that dialog box.
    This is not compatible with the scripting architecture, therefore the dialog box
    with the standard button was automatically rejected."
    So I see no chance to do what you want.

  • Select a range of rows to be displayed using ROWNUM

    I am trying to select a range of records to be displayed using Rownum
    It works using MINUS
    SQL> select rownum,department_id,department_name from departments where rownum <= 20
    minus
    select rownum,department_id,department_name from departments where rownum < 11;
    but does not work if a range is specified
    select rownum,department_id,department_name from departments where rownum >= 11 and rownum <= 20;
    What has gone wrong?
    Details of what I have tried are as follows:
    Connect to the sample schema HR
    SQL> connect hr/hr
    SQL> desc departments
    Name Null? Type
    DEPARTMENT_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(4)
    DEPARTMENT_NAME NOT NULL VARCHAR2(30)
    MANAGER_ID NUMBER(6)
    LOCATION_ID NUMBER(4)
    List all records in Departments
    SQL> select rownum,department_id,department_name from departments;
    ROWNUM DEPARTMENT_ID DEPARTMENT_NAME
    1 10 Administration
    2 20 Marketing
    3 30 Purchasing
    4 40 Human Resources
    etc......
    26 260 Recruiting
    27 270 Payroll
    27 rows selected.
    List the first 10 records in DEPARTMENTS
    SQL> select rownum,department_id,department_name from departments where rownum <= 10;
    ROWNUM DEPARTMENT_ID DEPARTMENT_NAME
    1 10 Administration
    2 20 Marketing
    etc.....
    10 100 Finance
    List row number from 11 to 20, but cannot no rows selected. Why?
    SQL> select rownum,department_id,department_name from departments where rownum >= 11 and rownum <= 20;
    no rows selected
    Use of MINUS can retrieve row number from 11 to 20
    SQL> select rownum,department_id,department_name from departments where rownum <= 20
    minus
    select rownum,department_id,department_name from departments where rownum < 11;
    ROWNUM DEPARTMENT_ID DEPARTMENT_NAME
    11 110 Accounting
    12 120 Treasury
    13 130 Corporate Tax
    14 140 Control And Credit
    15 150 Shareholder Services
    16 160 Benefits
    17 170 Manufacturing
    18 180 Construction
    19 190 Contracting
    20 200 Operations
    10 rows selected.

    For each row returned by a query, the ROWNUM pseudocolumn returns a number indicating the order in which Oracle selects the row from a table or set of joined rows. The first row selected has a ROWNUM of 1, the second has 2, and so on.
    Conditions testing for ROWNUM values greater than a positive integer are always false. For example, this query returns no rows:
    SELECT * FROM employees
    WHERE ROWNUM > 1;
    You can get the selected records based on the rownum using the inline query....
    SQL> select rownum, empno from emp;
    ROWNUM EMPNO
    1 7369
    2 7499
    3 7521
    4 7566
    5 7654
    6 7698
    7 7782
    8 7788
    9 7839
    10 7844
    11 7876
    ROWNUM EMPNO
    12 7900
    13 7902
    14 7934
    14 rows selected.
    SQL> select * from (select rownum rn, empno from emp) where rn > 2 and rn < 5;
    RN EMPNO
    3 7521

  • How to prompt user to select multiple files in file dialog using scripts

    Hi, is there a way to allow user to select multiple files inside the file dialog using scripts? So not just something like "*.ai" or "*.eps" but where the user can actually use their shift key to select a batch of files inside the file dialog and then the script would process each one.

  • How do I select a range of values in MySQL using a drop down menu

    Hi,
    I have a database of picture frames that have a value of
    frame width. I want to be able to select a range of values (i.e.
    .50" to 1") instead of each and every value (i.e. .50", .56", .76",
    etc.). I have a drop down menu (mnuWidth) with 5 ranges (see
    attached code).
    Each selection has a value from 1 to 5 indicating the range I
    want to search. In my results page I have let DW set up a recordset
    (see attached code)
    Can anyone tell me how to get this to choose a range instead
    of just the value entered by my menu?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

    I have been growing fond of lookup tables. Your lookup table would have your numbers in one column and the values you want returned in the next.
    Lookup table
    item
    Name
    1
    a
    2
    b
    3
    c
    4
    d
    5
    e
    6
    f
    7
    g
    8
    h
    9
    i
    Input table
    input
    Name
    1
    a
    B2 and copied down:
    LOOKUP(A2,lookup::$A$2:$A$11,lookup::$B$2:$B$11)
    Caution: Lookup will return the closest value so it it looks for "10" in this example it will return "i"
    If you don't want to see the error messages from blank inputs, wrap Lookup in IFERROR.
    hope this helps

  • Selecting a range of data from a file

    Is it possible to only display a selected range of data from a binary file? I can read in my binary files but I would like to only send data within a user defineable range to the data portal for viewing. This range may be over multiple binary files also. I can concatenate these files already but I need to select a range to insert into the data portal.
    Thanks,
    AJL

    OK AJL,
    This sounds good. It's convenient to have the start and stop time of each segment file in the name of that file. By the way, you want to check that in the DataPlugin and "Call RaiseError()" if the data file is not named that way, otherwise you will try to read DIAdem *.DAT files with your custom DataPlugin. DIAdem will try each DataPlugin that is registered with the file's extension (i.e. *.DAT) one after the other, until one of them does not give an error. So you should always check for some identifying characteristic in your data file and "Call RaiseError()" if you don't find it, in order to abort DIAdem using that DataPlugin for files it was never intended for.
    Now to your point. How do you know which series of segment files to read from? Does your VBScript ask the user to select a particular directory that contains all these segment files? I'm going to assume so. My recommendation is that your VBScript also create a time slice configuration file in that directory that contains the information about the time slice you want to read in (start and stop times). Then your DataPlugin can look for that file name in the directory passed to it-- if it finds none it will just load the file path it was passed outright, but if it does find the time slice file it will load any and all *.DAT files in that same directory which correspond to that time slice. This includes loading only parts of one or more of the existing binary files.
    It is straightforward enough to pick out the section of the binary file you want to load with the DataPlugin, once you know the time slice information inside the DataPlugin's callback. Use the File.Position property to move the file cursor to the position of the first data point in the time slice, and use the Block.BlockLength property to specify the number of values to read in each of the channels from that starting point (to exclude the values after the desired time slice). I assume that your binary data is stored interleaved and that you are using DirectAccessChannels to read the values in your DataPlugin.
    Finally, for time slices that span multiple segment files, you will need to load these to separate groups in the Data Portal with the DataPlugin. Then the VBScript can consolidate these channels into long concatenated channels in a new group and delete the temporary segmented groups. In a future version of DIAdem the DataPlugin API will have the ability to do this mapping for you, but not yet. I also have VBScripts that do this concatenation already-- you can download them from www.ni.com/support/diasupp. They're designed for concatenating channels from multiple ASCII/Excel/DAT files.

  • [JS] How to break link to paragraph style from script?

    I don't found the command break link to paragraph style from script.
    I want "unapply" the style from the text, but leave the formatting intact.
    Can help me?

    In the interface it's a separate command ("Break link to style"), but it seems in a script you have to use
    Paragraph.applyParagraphStyle (using:ParagraphStyle[, clearingOverrides:bool=true])
    You cannot use "null" or something similar for "ParagraphStyle", so I guess the idea is to use paragraph style #0 in your document (which is always "[No Paragraph Style]"). Be sure to set "clearing Overrides" to false, as it defaults to true.
    The following single line works on your current paragraph:
    app.activeDocument.selection[0].paragraphs[0].applyParagraphStyle (app.activeDocument.paragraphStyles[0], false);

  • Add a BUTTON that ONLY prints a selected page range

    Hello,
    I have a 100+ page PDF which has 32 or so 'sections' which are accessible by bookmarks.  I want to add a button that allows the reader to print ONLY the section they are in, i.e. a pre-selected page range that I embed in the button.
    Is this possible?
    If not, is there any other way to do this?  The document was originally created in Word and is broken up by Sections.
    Thanks,
    Chris.

    It's possible using a script, but the user will always be able to edit that pre-defined range, if they wanted to.
    The only option where they can't edit it is by using a script that silently prints the section, but that requires installing a script on the local machine of each user that is going to use the file.

  • Use scripting to create numeric control without inc/dec button

    I'm having fun using scripting to do things that were formerly "impossible", such as creating a cluster programmatically from a list of variable names and their associated types (to be used in a subsequent program).
    When I create a numeric control on a Front Panel, it has the Increment/Decrement button visible, by default.  I wanted to create controls without this feature, but I couldn't figure out how to do this (or even if it is possible, though I don't see why not).
    Any ideas?

    Good thing I read this three or four times before writing my snarky reply!
    When I created the new VI Object, I made it a Numeric with style Numeric Control (modern).  When I scrolled down the list of properties, they stopped with Unit Label -- in particular, Increment/Decrement Visible wasn't listed.  Of course, if I just "lay down" a numeric control, this property is visible.
    So I played around a little more. I saw somewhere a reference to the "Numeric Object class", and you refer to "digital numerics" (??? aren't all numeric "digital"?), so I went looking.  I found a sub-class of Numerics called NamedNumeric -- not sure what that is, exactly, but what do you know, it has the Increment/Decrement Visible? property!
    Time to give it a try ...
