Selecting Text/Cells (MS Office)

I want to create Microsoft Office "Try It - assessment" simulations and i am wondering if "clicking and dragging to select text/table cells-columns etc, and the resulting highlighted text/table" is supported. How can i do this in Captivate 5.5? (I also have ELS 2.5)
If it is not directly supported is there a work around? i.e. check for an inital mouse click and then a mouse release action, use a widget, create it in Flash (i have limited experience in Flash so a URL showing this would help).

I found another workaround for selecting text in Word, selecting cells in Excel - i'll display a button called "Shift" to mirror the action of the Shift key on the keyboard. Click where you want to start your selection, click the Shift button (show it in down state), click where you want to end the selection - text is highlighted.
I can also use the Shift button and Copy command to copy formula in Excel..
(The following forum discussion outlines why "Shift/Control and Click" are NOT supported in Captivate - http://forums.adobe.com/message/3957662#3957662).
I will have to use the Full Motion Recording for mouse down and drag actions in Word and Excel. And the Flash option.... well with my limited experience that will have to wait for another day : )

Here's an example of the model I used in my JTable. Not the "getValueAt" method & "getRecordAt" method. You will have to have a Record object - but it only contains the attributes of an inserted record (with appropriate getters & setters). Hope this helps.

How can I select multiple cells in tableview with javafx only by mouse?

I have an application with a tableview in javafx and i want to select multiple cells only by mouse (something like the selection which exists in excel).I tried with setOnMouseDragged but i cant'n do something because the selection returns only the cell from where the selection started.Can someone help me?

For mouse drag events to propagate to nodes other than the node in which the drag initiated, you need to activate a "full press-drag-release gesture" by calling startFullDrag(...) on the initial node. (See the Javadocs for MouseEvent and MouseDragEvent for details.) Then you can register for MouseDragEvents on the table cells in order to receive and process those events.
Here's a simple example: the UI is not supposed to be ideal but it will give you the idea.

How to get selected/focused cell from table, and action on clicked

i have a view with a table, (id "Table_0");
table is 3x3 size, as celleditors i used inputfields; (standard binding to context with string atributes)
below table i have textarea.
when i select any cell in table i want to add that cell coords to textarea (col and row)
i know that i should use onLeadSelect action, but i dont know exacly how. or to be precise.. how to access to ID and row variables in that action.
the other problem is.. that onLeadSelect seems to work only when i change lead not the cell in same row.. so prabobly there is better way to do that..
any ideas?

Now i have following problem:
i have a table 3x3 with one column as dropdownbykey box and 2 as TableSingleMarkableCell (and inputFields As editors).
it works as i wanted:
so when i click on one of those input cells, insert vale AND click enter then the action onEnter( for inputfield) is fired... i can get the coords of that cell..
problem is.. that i want to get the coords before i click enter.. just when i click in cell.
i tried to use onAction event for column.. but it doesnt work for TableSingleMArkableCells (but it works for ddk column correctly).
so there is any way to do that?
ie:
below table i have inputfield (called value).
when i click on cell (and DO NOT press enter) i want to see the cell value in inputfield value.
future (and target need) is that i need to show some additional text for specific Cell. (i have an Object with 2 strings attributes, one i want to show in cell, and one in inputfield when cell is clicked).

I apologize.
You seem to be saying that the default colour for text is blue.
You need to change:-
Normal.dotm
- to change the default colour of text.
In order to change the default colour of text take the following steps (that were tested on Windows 7 and Office 2007 - the process should be
similar, if not identical, for yourself):-
1. Open a new blank document (this should
have the default text as blue).
Save that document with a new name for example:-
c:\word\testing_aug_25_2014_2
2. In the above document:-
Insert tab
Text group
Click on the drop down arrow to the lower right of:-
Quick Parts
- then click on:-
Field . . .
The:-
Field
- window should open.
3. In the:-
Field
- window in the field called:-
Field names:
- scroll down to:-
Template
- and click on that option so that it's highlighted in blue.
Now, towards the top right hand corner of the same window, click in the box called:-
Add path to file name
- so that it has a tick (check mark) in that box.
Click:-
OK
The file name of the template should now be inserted into your document.
On my machine this was:-
C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm
The above path might be different for you.
4. I saved my document at this point.
5. Now open the file called:-
C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm
A document should open on your screen (still with blue text) and with:-
Normal.dotm
- in the middle of the Title Bar at the top of the screen.
Highlight all of the text in the document so that it's (for example) black.
Save the file.
6. Close all open documents in WORD and
close WORD itself.
7. Now open a new document and its default
text should be set to the colour that you applied at step 5. above (I used black at that point).

Hi, this is more of a two part question.
Question 1
I need to be able to assign numerical values (Table Value £ of set up) to text cells (Set Up).
1. The table "Combinations" then uses the formula
IF($A3≤Information::$B$8, MOD(INT((ROW(cell)−3)÷PRODUCT(C$1:$G$1)), B$1), "")
to take info from the "Information" table and create all possible permutations of "Set Up"
2."List" is the printed list of "Combinations"
3."Output of list" concatenates the data from "List".
Question 2
4. How do I print out the total numerical value of the concatenated string of "Output of List" into Output (£) of List"?

Problem selecting text in PDF created by MS Word for Mac 2011

I'm viewing PDFs in Adobe Digital Editions 4.0, and when I try to select text, the text that actually gets selected is 1-2 lines BELOW where the cursor (I-bar) is located. This makes highlighting text extremely difficult. This only seems to happen with PDFs that were created in MS Word for Mac 2011 and viewed in Adobe Digital Editions.
If I try opening the very same PDF file in Adobe Reader, the cursor highlights text just fine. If I open it in Preview, it works fine too. It just won't work when viewing the PDF in Adobe Digital Editions.
System: Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite
I have not been able to find any info on this issue anywhere, and if anyone knows a fix or workaround, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Whoa... the extensions mean something. Your original problem (document shows bold, italic, underline, but tables and other complex formatting are lost) sounds as though the document was being exported as a .RTF, a Rich Text Format file. Normally you'd have to select page orientation.
So, poor testing on my part. I have no idea which of the above steps fixed it but I'm guessing the 'Save As' to my version of Word.
If so, it would appear the 'Compatability' feature was not working at least on these two documents.
Word's compatibility feature is supposed to ensure that a document you produce is compatible with the target version of Word. If you turn the compatibility stuff on then you will be warned if you are using Word 2007 through 2011 and you use a feature that earlier versions of Word do not have. Microsoft shipped a translator which works with Office 2003 and 2004 and which allows Word 2003 or 2004 to read Word 2007, 2008, 2010, or 2011 documents (.DOCX) and to save them as Word 97 through 2004 documents (.DOC) _as long as they don't have any incompatible features_. Word's compatibility features doesn't do much for .RTFs or for .DOCMs.

JS - surrounding selected text with double quotes

I have a working script which places brackets around selected text in the main body of my document (not in a table), but when I changed the script to insert double curly quotes, the script wont work.
Why wont this JS work (script stalls on the var line):

PS The quotes are showing as three straight quotes above, but in my script they are two straight double quotes surrounding either a right or a left curly double quote.

Perhaps there's a Smart Quotes interpreter in JS? Who knows.
If you find it failing again, try inserting the quotes as Unicode values, as these should not be subject to any translating.
I.e.,

Selecting text in a JTable renderer?

Hi all,
I have a JTable with some non-editable cells. I don't want the user to be able to change these values, but I want the user to be able to select the text and copy it. I can''t seem to be able to do this with the default cell renderers, as they subclass JLabel and you can't select text in the JLabel (or can you?)
Anybody else have this problem?
I also tried to create my own table renderer by subclassing a JTextField, but when I call setText in the "getTableCellRendererComponent" method, it doesn't seem to set the text of the text field. Well it does, because I can then call getText() and that works fine, but it doesn't appear in the JTable.

Just in case anybody is interested, when you click on a table cell, the table cell editor is being used, not the cell editor.
Its simply a matter of setting a textfield for that cell editor and setting setEditable to false.
The user can then select the text, but not edit it. Works perfectly.

Pages '09: Can't use AppleScript for selected text inside tables?

When I run get selection on selected text in a Pages document, I get something like this:

When I run get selection on selected text inside a table cell in a table in a Pages document, I get something like this:

When I run get selection on selected text inside a table cell in ANOTHER table in the same Pages document, I get the exact same thing. It still says "some" table. So there is no way to distinguish between tables if there are more than one table in the same Pages document.
Am I correct in understanding that this means that most AppleScript commands for manipulating text are unusable inside table cells?
For example, it seems impossible to get the properties of the selection when the selection is selected text inside "some" table. So it's impossible do anything about text styles, etc.
Is AppleScript support in Pages ’09 really that limited, or am I missing something?

When selecting one cell, multiple cells highlight

When I am working with Excel 2010, I try to select a single cell however multiple cells get highlighted. It will highlight usually the next 5-6 cells in the same row. It occurs randomly on random cells, but happens about 25% of the time. If I click the
cell and it does its highlighting thing, I usually have to click away in another cell and then re-click the first one to get it to go away. Also, if I just try to ignore the highlighted cells and try to work as normal, when I try to tab to the next cell in
the row, it will only let me tab between the cells in the column that are highlighted. It is not a mouse problem, I am not accidentally selecting multiple cells, and it happens on documents I created as well as documents others have created. It will also happens
on a new, blank document or others completely stripped of any kind of potentially hidden formatting. I have not tried to re-install Office yet, but that will be next step if no one has a solution. Thanks

I ran into this problem today working in Excel 2010 at 90% zoom.
First I tried F8 and Shift+F8 but neither of them worked.
Next I changed the zoom levels up and down and this worked while I was at a different zoom level than the document was saved in but went back to the same problem when I tried working at 90% zoom again.
Finally I came across the fix mentioned below from July 2, 2012 that suggested switching from Normal View to Page and then to Print view and back to Normal and this worked!!! Thanks to all for your input below, you saved my Monday morning!
LIST OF POSSIBLE FIXES:
1. Try using the F8 and/or Shift+F8 [extend selection] to toggle back and forth.
2. Change zoom level of your document up or down [this was only a temporary fix for me].
3. Change page layout between Normal, Page Layout, and Page Break Preview (the 3 boxes at the bottom right hand corner of excel spreadsheet) then back to Normal.

Formula entry by selecting multiple cells

I'm in my 30 day eval of iwork. In Numbers I don't see a way of entering a formula without spelling out the cell references into the cell containing the formula result.
For example, in Excel, after selecting the cell for the result, in that cell I start the formula (=), then I select the first cell, then an operator , then the next cell, then another operator , etc., press enter, then the cell shows the result of the formula (sum in this example).
The Numbers user manual did not offer a similar alternative. Is there a way to click on each cell reference to build the formula?

It seems that you didn't search carefully in the Users Guide.
